The Sugar Tree

Darci at The Sugar Tree was amazing to work with from the start. I was looking for a local baker that could make our wedding cake and continued to get recommendations for the Sugar Tree. I looked at both Darci’s personal website and Facebook website and found myself very impressed with her cooking and baking experience, gallery photos and large flavor selection. I showed my fiancé and he was equally impressed and agreed we should contact her about our wedding cake! We set up an appointment for a tasting in Darci’s home. She made us the cake flavors and frosting we were interested in, in cupcake form and invited us into her home for a complimentary tasting. We loved all of the flavors and had the hardest time choosing! A nice and fun thing she offers is the flexibility of doing different flavors and frosting on different tiers of her cakes so we were able to have a variety! Meeting Darci in person only confirmed to us how she seemed via her email communication (which was always prompt and informative). She is professional, warm, welcoming, creative and flexible. Lastly, she is VERY passionate about what she does. She is proud of the work she does and has every reason to be. She will accommodate to anyone’s individual needs and always uses her own fresh produce, dairy and flowers when possible. Darci also ended up making mini classic whoopie pies for us which we used as wedding favors. She offers to bag and label favors with her own party accessories and offers custom designs! We chose to purchase something separately off Etsy but she still bagged each one individually which we really appreciated. We hired Darci for catering drop off service the day of the wedding for my bridesmaids and I while getting ready. The food did come a little later than expected and it wasn’t “out of this world”, very standard store bought-like salads so that was the only complaint but it wasn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Other than that, the Sugar Tree was AMAZING. Our wedding cake was BEAUTIFUL. Darci hand picked the same type of flowers in my bouquet and arrangements from my florist and completely decked out the cake. All I could say was, “Wow!!” when I saw it!! Guests were also commenting on how delicious our cake was even after the wedding was over! She was very helpful with telling us how to freeze the top tier following the wedding, too. Hire her! :)

Darci was wonderful, kind, and flexible. The cake that she made us was beautiful and delicious. Sometimes she could be a little slow with responding to emails, but overall I would definitely recommend hiring her for any event.

Darci was great to work with! We first tried her desserts in April at our event tasting. She had a beautiful display and tasteful treats. She left packets of information and a binder with pictures of her work. I contacted her shortly after our venue tasting. Although we had already tasted things and had decided we wanted her as our cake baker we attended a free private tasting at her new shop! She asked me to choose 6 flavors from her list. She made us a dozen cupcakes (2 of each flavor). My fiancé and I shared each flavor and she boxed up the other half dozen for us to take home! All the flavors we chose were delicious! Originally, my plan was for carrot cake with cream cheese icing as the cutting cake and cupcakes in maine wild blueberry cake and sweet lemon creme cake. After trying additional favors, we changed our cupcake choices and had wild blueberry with a lemon curd filling and chocolate peanut butter with a chocolate truffle filling. I sent her Pinterest photos for the cake design and display for cupcakes and she did an amazing job! The reason I did not give this 5 stars is because their was a fine detail on the bottom tier of the cake that I really wanted as it matched my ring and this was missing. She offers a free top replica on your anniversary so maybe I'll ask for this to be there then. I also ordered maine wild blueberry jam jars to give as welcome gifts and habanero pickled sausages to add to the groomsmen gifts. She delivered everything for free to the venue, including an extra trip to the venue on Saturday to drop of the jars! I received so many positive comments on the taste of all the items ordered. She is in very high demand so do not be surprised if she does not respond to your emails right away, but it is worth the wait because her cakes are delicious!

Darci has such a gift for creating tasteful treats that embody any theme you can imagine. She is so personable and I really appreciated her thoughtfulness of creating your vision while also offering advice from her experience. The flavors of cupcakes she can create are unbelievable! She uses all natural products and the flavor profiles are outstanding. The presentation as well as the taste is fabulous and each cupcake was so delicate and beautiful. We received so many compliments about our cupcake stand and our adorable nautical cutting cake.

Darci was wonderful to work with. She was attentive to what we wanted for options at the reception. She was very easy to get in touch with if there were any questions. The food was amazing, the guests loved everything and kept going back for more.
