The Sugarplum Cake Shoppe

Amanda and her team run an amazing bakery in Colorado Springs. My husband and I got our cutting cake and dessert bar from here and it was delicious! We got an almond cake with coconut frosting, and all of the guests were RAVING about it. Amanda was able to make it “naked” for me, but keep it moist enough. The dessert bar was an absolute hit with the guests - everyone loved it, and I loved that we were able to have such a variety of choices at such an affordable price!

Sugarplum Cake Shoppe was amazing! They were very accommodating of our vision and put together a beautiful dessert bar for our wedding day.

TL;DR- They delivered our wedding cake knowing everything about it was wrong, joked about it to our coordinator, and now won’t even get back to us to apologize or make it right. From day one of trying to order our wedding cake and desserts, there were red flags. At our cake tasting, they had our information under a completely different name and therefore couldn’t find it for almost 30 minutes while we patiently waited. Even though we communicated very clearly to Amanda what we wanted in our cake at the tasting and several times over the phone and via e-mail, not only was it never written down, but our cake size and flavor, filling, and icing were completely wrong on our wedding day. They knew it was wrong, but still delivered it without saying a thing to us. The next day when we went to the venue to pick up some things, our coordinator let us know that they came to pick up their cooler and when doing so not only admitted to knowing it was all wrong, but even joked about it. That was on March 10th. We have received absolutely no communication from them about this (it is now March 22nd). I e-mailed them on the 14th after getting frustrated about their complete lack of integrity and the utter unprofessionalism. It is now the 22nd and we still haven’t heard a word. Not even an apology. At our tasting and throughout our experience with them, we told Amanda several times we wanted no black frosting whatsoever on the cake, no fruit filling, and that we wanted a champagne cake with lemon chiffon filling. Easy enough, right? While our cake was absolutely beautiful on the outside, when we cut into it we were so disappointed to see that the cake was everything we asked for it not to be- black frosting on the entirety of the bottom tier, fruit filling, and white cake. We literally spit our pieces out when we tried it. Our guests who tried the cake all complained about the black frosting getting all over their teeth (which is why we asked for it to be all white), and said the fruit filling was incredibly bitter. I’m completely appalled that not a single person has reached out to us, even after we reached out to them, and it really shows their lack of character. We ended up just tossing the entire cake and not really eating any of it- $270 completely wasted.

I had a wonderful experience with Sugarplum Cake Shoppe for my wedding cake. Despite living out of town and never having tried their cakes before, the process was seamless. Ordering over the phone was easy, and they recreated my vision perfectly from the pictures I provided. I did a small two tier cake with two different flavors and it was perfect! Their team was attentive and helpful, calling to confirm details and providing lots of advice on safe transportation. The cake looked stunning with our added flowers. Most importantly, it tasted absolutely delicious and was loved by all of our guests. I highly recommend Sugarplum for anyone in need of a beautiful and tasty wedding cake.

Amanda and the team at Sugarplum went above and beyond to make our wedding a success. They showed us some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. There was a mix-up with our order and it wasn't ready when we went to pick it up. (For the record our planner has worked with them many times and said that this is the first time she's seen something like this has happen.) Sugarplum got us on the baking schedule for the same day and told us they would have the cupcakes delivered (for free) to the venue by that evening. Our venue was two hours away in Buena Vista. Later that day we ended up meeting Amanda on the way up because we left later than expected and while moving the cupcakes to our car, we had a mishap which ruined the decorations for one of the boxes of cupcakes. Even though it was our fault, Amanda happily took the cupcakes back to her shop and fixed them, again for free. She offered to drive them to the venue for us the next day, but we instead had them delivered to a family member who was driving up anyway. After all of that, Amanda even offered us a refund for the trouble! We didn't feel right accepting that though after everything she and the Sugarplum team did to make it right and then some. I should also mention that the cupcakes were absolutely delicious and beautifully made. If you want a bakery that will go out of their way to make sure your day is a success then Sugarplum is the way to go. I would use them again without question, even with the mixup. This could have been the biggest disaster of our wedding, and instead they made it one of the best experiences we had in planning the whole event. My husband and I were beyond happy with the cake, desserts, and service we received for our wedding in October. We wanted a small cutting cake and a dessert bar (no pictures unfortunately) for our reception and everything was absolutely delicious! By the end of the night, there were only a few desserts left over and we got so many compliments from our guests. We were impressed by the wide variety of flavors and types of desserts. The two lovely ladies who helped us during the tasting were so helpful in offering suggestions and helping us decide on a design for the cutting cake. They also coordinated with our florist to add flowers to the cake. We were even able to have gluten-free and vegan-friendly options for our guests. The team at Sugarplum was so friendly, informative, and generous throughout the process and really made a positive impact on our wedding. We 100% would recommend their business to anyone looking for delicious desserts and top-tier service.

Our experience started out great. Our tasting was enjoyable and all the desserts were delicious. We showed images of what we wanted for our cake of a textured white cake and were assured it would be completed. Come wedding weekend we found out the wood grazing boards had not been sent with the person who picked up the desserts. While they did eventually refund us for the price, they blamed it on the person who picked up for seeming “rushed.” They also made no attempt to contact the wedding coordinator or any of the contacts they had to say the grazing boards has been “left behind” by this “rushed” person, they simply forgot and are passing blame. It was incredibly frustrating to have a wedding over an hour from a store and nothing to display any of our desserts on. Then came the cake. The cake was poorly frosted at best. I can’t tell if they attempted “texture” or if they simply forgot to do anything with it at all. Thankfully I had my Polaroid so we stuck a photo on it to detract from the ugly cake. This is incredibly disappointing as the desserts and cakes were delicious (especially the almond cake), there was simply no follow through on the details at the end. We got a small cake for our wedding from Sugarplum and it was DELICIOUS! The cake tasting was really fun and we got to try a variety of different combinations. Everything was so good we had a hard time compromising on our favorite flavors! We got a semi-naked cake, almond cake with Bavarian crème filling. SO GOOD! Would definitely recommend Sugarplum for any event! I will post pictures when I get them back from our photographer. Thanks Sugarplum!

Sugarplum Cake Shoppe made our delicious wedding cake. Our personal favorite was the almond cake with chocolate ganache & strawberry filling. They also have delicious gluten & dairy-free options that our guests loved! Amanda - the owner is SO passionate and knowledgeable about cake. We thoroughly enjoyed our tasting with her. Our only complaint was communication. Whoever manages client notes was unaware of the decisions made during our tasting so 1 month before our wedding they reached out inquiring about which flavors we wanted and the cake design (which we had already confirmed and to be honest didn't exactly remember as it happened 6 months previously). All was figured out once we spoke with Amanda but this added some unnecessary stress for about a week until those who manage the bookings discussed the plan with Amanda at which point we had already resaved ideas to prep for an additional meeting. Amanda offered to comp our delivery fee for the confusion which we so appreciate. We would recommend SugarPlum and are very grateful for their contribution to make our day extra special.

Our cake and cupcakes were amazing! Every guest loved them! Very professional and very easy to work with. We had a tasting and got to choose a bunch of our favorites. The cake and cupcakes were displayed at the wedding and everything looked just the way we wanted it to! Sugarplum also took the time to add a little surprise on the cake just for me. I'm a huge Oregon Ducks fan and they hid a little secret on the cake!

We LOVED our wedding cake! I can't remember who we specifically worked with which I'm very sorry about because she was amazing-our cake turned out exactly how we wanted it and she seemed very excited to do it. The flavors were so easy to pick- I swear we were done in like ten minutes, and as soon as she mentioned they would bake us a new tier for our one year anniversary instead of having to save it we were in love. Also, we didn't get the lemon bars for our wedding but we did get to try and they were *chef's kiss*. 10/10 recommend

From the cake tasting, to booking the cake, they were extremely easy to work with. Their cakes taste absolute yummy and we are so happy that they were available to make our 4 tier wedding cake. I won't hesitate to use this again for a special event.

Amanda and the Sugarplum team made our groom's cake (Kansas City Chiefs) as well as our wedding cake. Both turned out just amazing and so delicious! We received many compliments that the cakes were both well-designed and tasty too! We are so grateful to have had Sugarplum a part of our wedding day!

I would rate them a 10+. Creative and delicious wedding cake for my daughter’s wedding. Everyone raved about the taste of the different layers. And the dessert table was a big big hit! Everything we ordered was perfect and scrumptious. Cannot rave enough about the amazing two-sided wedding cake.

I loved being able to choose the flavors and colors of all of our macarons, and they were so yummy I just couldn’t get enough of them! The cookies were delicious as well and so soft, perfectly baked. Sugarplum did an absolutely beautiful job with our wedding cake! From the initial tasting to designing to delivery, they were amazing, and our guests loved the cake. They crafted the semi-naked design with succulents and fresh berries so well, and we wish we could've gotten to eat more! The mocha-flavored cake is to die for, and the chocolate ganache filling was on point. You can't go wrong with Sugarplum.

We worked with Sugarplum Cake Shoppe for our wedding. They had such good communication and were quick to help us set up our tasting. They were able to provide great tips on designing our cake and were very knowledgeable about flavor combinations and colors. They focused on even the smallest details from ensuring the color of the icing matched my dress to the colors of the display trays matching our wedding colors. We did not only have a delicious wedding cake but we also had a variety of other desserts at our wedding. We offered cookies, pies (pumpkin and apple), cream puffs, flourless chocolate cake, and lemon bars. Everything was a HUGE hit. We received so many compliments on the desserts. I truly cannot say enough good things about them. They were professional, knowledgeable, easy to work with, very attentive to details, and very responsive. So thankful we had the opportunity to work with them for our wedding.

Our wedding cake was amazing! We worked with Amanda at our consultation and she helped us pick out a look for our cake. They ended up being able to replicate our reference photo perfectly! The cake was also very delicious and moist, and they were also able to make the different tiers different flavors which I really liked.

We ended up using this wonderful Shoppe for our dessert table. We had a credit from our all inclusive package with our venue and I always wanted a dessert table. We had cookies, brownies, cake, dessert shooters, cream puffs, bars... and so much more. We had a 12 foot dessert table... I was amazed. My husband and I are were so pleased with their work and how it turned out. Will use them for all of our even baking needs in the future!

Hands down, my FAVORITE bakery! I have yet to have something that I don't like. I am a wedding coordinator, so I've seen it all and I've tasted it all. Every time one of my clients hires Sugar Plum, I know I'm going to eat good on that day. Seriously, even on my days off I stop by the shop for a cupcake or three.

We ordered a 3-tier cake for our wedding. They did a great job with the detailing on the cake and on the sugar flowers. They were able to take photos of multiple different cakes and replicate the look for each of the different tiers. The two tiers that we had at the wedding tasted great and we can't wait to try the third tier on our anniversary. We had marbled cake, white with fresh blueberries, and the white with hazelnut for reference.

Wanted to share my Yelp review here for all of you other couples to see. I would highly reccomend this bakery! "Sugarplum did an excellent job with our wedding cake! At one point there was a hiccup with our order, but they more than made up for it. I will happily be visiting them again. They provided excellent customer service and quality!"

I would definitely recommend The Sugarplum Cake Shoppe. I visited a few other vendors and The Sugarplum was by far more professional, experienced and still friendly. The cake was DELICIOUS and looked great. They were maybe 10 min late from their delivery time-frame (due to rush-hour, but they build in a large cushion that they were still early from our start-time) and the color of the sugar flowers were a bit off from what I had hoped for (just in shading), but their communication in the months/weeks leading up to our wedding day - and the end product outweighs any minor flaws like that. I will definitely go back to them for our cake needs - including our 1 year anniversary cake!

We were blown away with how our wedding cake turned out. We sent in a picture of an Aspen tree and they nailed it. Not to mention the cake AND all desserts were extremely tasty. Would highly recommend for any event.

The cake tasting was great, way more cake and frosting samples than i had been expecting. the owner walked us through everything, answering all of our questions and drawing up a design that was exactly what we wanted. the pricing was very reasonable. the cake was moist and so tasty. We were very happy with our choice.

Amanda at the Sugarplum Cake Shoppe was a dream to work with, as was her staff, and made me my dream wedding cake. It not only looked perfect, it tasted so amazing - so amazing that I'm glad I set-aside the top to eat the next day because even though I ordered plenty, and a small sheet cake in addition just in case, there was almost no cake left over at the end of the night! It was that good! I highly recommend the Sugarplum team for any event in the future and thank them sincerely for making my day special!

1- The cake is DELICIOUS. We ordered the almond poppyseed (sooo good), and funfetti! Both were accommodated with ease and so tasty. Even the fondant, which I don't usually think is tasty at all, was delicious. I could eat a whole cake of their fondant. 2- Our wedding cake was beautiful! 3- The planning was so easy, we weren't quite sure what we wanted, and they made a beautiful cake from our half-baked ideas after a short and easy discussion.

We had a small cake with only two layers. They let me choose different types of cake and fillings for each layer and gave advice on what would go together well. I showed them a photo of my vision and they matched it perfectly. The cake was beautiful and tasted great too!

They made an amazing cake for our wedding. The owner is a true artist. She was able to talk us through what we wanted on our cake. We decided to go with a more classic/ simple look and it turned out perfect. They delivered it on time, helped put the cake topper on and add some desserts to our dessert table. I will definitely be using these guys again!

DELICIOUS! If that doesn't sell you, you are getting a cake for the wrong reason! The Sugarplum staff was my easiest wedding vendor to work with; I had an initial taste test and consultation and they didn't miss the mark! We had an almond cake with white chocolate raspberry filling, that had a simple mountain scene. We also did a couple hundred mini cupcakes which were a huge hit! Chocolate with chocolate ganache , red velvet, vanilla with raspberry filling, and almond with white chocolate raspberry filling. Our guests raved about how tasty both the cake and cupcakes were. I would highly recommend Sugarplum Cake Shoppe!

I can't recommend the Sugarplum Cake Shoppe enough! They made picking and planning a cake so fun and easy - I loved how everything came out. It was delicious and looked exactly how I had hoped. I planned our wedding from overseas, and Nicole was amazing at walking me through the entire process via e-mail and even setting up a tasting for my parents who live nearby. Sugarplum has a great vibe, the staff are very helpful and friendly, give great suggestions and do their best to make whatever you imagine into a cake. 10/10!!

Sugarplum Cake Shoppe did an amazing job! The tasting was fun and we didn’t feel rushed or pressured. Everything was so delicious it was hard to choose in the end. Our wedding cake was gorgeous and the colors matched the swatches we gave them so well! They also worked with me in secret to make a groom’s cake in the shape of a tank. They did a great job on all of those details. Everyone we worked with was friendly and professional and it was nice that we could also rent a cake stand so that we didn’t have to buy one.

The Sugarplum Cake Shoppe made the cake for our wedding. It turned out so beautiful, and the woman who helped us design the cake really understood what we wanted it to look like! It was also really delicious and guests asked us for left over cake! We also ordered a small gluten free cake for a few guests and relatives that have allergies and it was good! It was inexpensive but still decorated to match out main three tiered cake. You should totally try their lemon cake options. It tastes phenomenal!

Such a great bakery! We had a great tasting where we tried the best flavors of cakes and we sat down with the owner and she listened to our theme and together we custom built the most beautiful design. We loved our cake and it was so yummy, our guests were so impressed.

The cake was exceptionally beautiful. The attention to detail with the lilies was beyond perfect. It was hard for us to want to cut the cake; however, when we did, the taste was FANTASTIC! The desserts that you created were way beyond expectations. They were a huge hit with our guests. The cake looked perfect with the fact that you had to transport it to our venue about 2 to 3 hours away. We love you guys!!

Amanda and her team are absolutely fantastic! The cake was absolutely wonderful! From the cake tasting to the delivery of the cake - this team of people were the best team of people to work with! My one regret is that they aren't closer to my house so I can't get cake more often. (*Smiles) I called them multiple times throughout the months leading up to my wedding changing the size of my wedding cake because I wanted to make sure I had left overs. Never once, did they ever question what or why. They were absolutely fabulous! Oh, and there wasn't any cake left. I had a couple people tell me after the wedding they had 3 pieces of cake because it was so fabulous! What?! 3 pieces...no wonder we didn't have left overs. HA! You can't go wrong with The Sugarplum Cake Shoppe if you want your day to go absolutely perfect and your guests to LOVE your cake! Thank you Sugarplum Cake Shoppe for adding to my perfect day!

My wedding cakes were so delicious. We had a wide array of flavors, and Nicole at sugarplum did it to the nines! We also had a green bay packers themed grooms cake and it was also AMAZING!! Thanks Sugarplum.

They made this part of our wedding "to do list" a breeze. They were so wonderful to work with even with changes that had to be made after the initial order.
