Extremely Disappointed by the Lack of Professionalism at Summer House Nantucket
I am extremely disappointed and honestly flabbergasted by the lack of professionalism I experienced...
while exploring Summer House Nantucket as a potential wedding venue.
A few weeks ago, I reached out regarding hosting my wedding there and spoke with Katya, who assured me she would send over collateral outlining their wedding offerings. After not receiving anything, I followed up approximately 10 days later asking her to please send the information we had discussed.
Several days later, she finally emailed me a generic pricing sheet outlining costs per person for food and beverage service, venue rental fees, and other basic pricing details—information that had already been explained to me over the phone and that I had already documented myself. What was completely missing were the details that are critical when evaluating a wedding venue: food and menu options, bar package specifics and liquor selections, linen and china choices, flatware options, ceremony and reception locations available on the property, and any other details about what they actually offer for weddings.
I followed up again with specific questions and requested the detailed information I had originally been promised. I never received a response. About a week later, after another follow-up from me, Katya informed me that the date we had been discussing was no longer available because it had been reserved for her boss’s friend’s daughter. Despite the fact that I had already requested detailed information on three separate occasions, she then asked if I still wanted the information she had repeatedly failed to provide.
At that point, due to my concerns regarding the communication and overall handling of the process, I requested contact information for the owner so I could discuss my experience directly. Katya informed me that she was not allowed to provide the owner’s contact information. This only added to my frustration, as there appeared to be no avenue to address the issues I had encountered or speak with someone in a position to provide accountability.
The entire experience was frustrating and incredibly unprofessional. Communication was poor, promised information was never sent, follow-up was virtually nonexistent, and there appeared to be little regard for the time and effort that couples invest when searching for a wedding venue. Planning a wedding is stressful enough without having to repeatedly chase down basic information from a venue that is supposedly interested in earning your business.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Summer House Nantucket as a wedding venue. I expected professionalism, responsiveness, transparency, and attention to detail—especially for such an important event—and unfortunately, this experience fell far short of those expectations.
