We had the reception for our October 2022 wedding at the Shrewsbury Sunset Room. This venue is a hidden treasure that more local brides should really consider! While this space is ...
not an all inclusive venue, it is extremely affordable and a very pretty space. This space is perfect for DIY and minimalist brides and anyone working with a limited budget.
We had 91 guests (11 tables + 1 head table) along with various additional tables, and there was plenty of space for us. There are several rules for the space that made use very flexible with us (no required caterers, can bring in your own alcohol and bartender, etc.).
There are a number of rental options for their space (day of, 2 days, 3 days) depending on your set up needs. We chose the least expensive option, 1 day (11 hours), which meant members of the bridal party and our family had to go set up a few hours before the ceremony (which worked out great for us).
Lauren with Shrewsbury City Hall was extremely helpful and quick to respond to my plethora of questions. I was able to come by several times over the year of planning to walk through the room, take measurements, etc. Marty the onsite, day of maintenance guy was very helpful in running ice, removing trash, and available for questions.
The space is tucked back in the Shrewsbury neighborhood, but not too far from highway 44 and nearby hotels.
The newly redone Sunset Room was perfect! Both affordable and elegant. We had our cocktail hour outside on the back patio and our dinner inside. Everything went very smoothly. T...
he staff was very helpful, and the room itself with the tall windows and ceilings looked fabulous. Definitely a hidden gem!
The ballroom used to be a chapel when the center was a boys school. The venue is cheap with plenty of parking and seating for up to 200 people and you can get a discount if you are...
a Shrewsbury resident. The maintenance is consistent, but it's just a nice little old man that does it all and he's planning to retire soon (shhhhh... I didn't say that).
The place photographs beautifully and doesn't require much decoration. Beware of children's plays. They hold them in the ballroom all the time and you may have to deal with their decorations.
When looking for a reception venue, we were trying to find a nice place that wasn't a banquet hall, but was still not crazy expensive. This place was perfect! It had pretty brick w...
alls and windows to let in the light (natural light is a must for me). We were able to drop by at any time we needed to take measurements or check out what part of the room looked like. We were also able to get in the day before to decorate, which was really really helpful, since it ended up taking a bit longer than we thought. It would have been very hectic to have decorated the morning of the wedding and their flexibility made it sooo much easier!
Paul, the janitor, was a lifesaver at my reception venue. He was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and on site on the day of the wedding to help out with any emergencies. The venue...
was great because it allowed us to decorate and also bring in our own caterer. However, there were a lot of details that I could not find out unless I called multiple times because they did not clearly tell me ahead of time. Otherwise, they were somewhat affordable compared to other venues and great to work with.
It was reasonably priced and available for the day we needed it.;Size of rooms a little decieving
The location was excellent for our guests. It was one place that was very reasonably priced that allowed outside caterers. We were allowed to get in early to decorate. It was beaut...
iful once we had all of the decorations done!;There isn't a full kitchen for a caterer to use, so the caterer must be prepared for this.
It was available; For June weddings, plan more than a year in advance to get good locations
