We were referred to The Sweet Side by our wedding planners. We spent $996 (including a $125 refundable deposit) on dessert for a small wedding with 30 guests. Leading up to the wedding Mindy was very difficult to communicate with and she repeatedly sent us emails asking for information that had been provided previously (e.g., day of contact, vendor access to venue, etc.). There was also a miscommunication a month before our wedding that resulted in a surprise $110 delivery charge, $55 rental fee, and $125 refundable deposit requirement. If you asked The Sweet Side team, they would say that our planners did not tell them that they needed delivery or rentals in advance of our initial invoice. If you asked our wedding planners, they would say that conversations were had months prior with The Sweet Side team and that delivery and rentals were supposed to be complimentary. For what it’s worth, delivery and rentals were included in the initial invoice with a $0 line item. When we asked The Sweet Side to honor their initial invoice and waive the delivery/rental fees, they refused. Since I was not involved in those conversations I can’t say whose version of the miscommunication is more correct, but after experiencing firsthand how difficult Mindy is to communicate with I tend to believe our wedding planners. Since it was only a month before our wedding we opted to pay the extra fees rather than try to find a new dessert vendor.
Fortunately, the desserts the day of were a much better experience. The desserts were delivered on time and were a big hit. We ordered the predesigned magnolia cake, 8” round, with carrot cake and cream cheese on the inside and buttercream frosting on the outside ($181). It was DELICIOUS and just the right size for our small wedding. We also ordered the “sweet bites bar package” ($525) with French macarons, brownies, and cheesecake shooters. The package is advertised as intended for 50 guests but it was just the right size for our 30 guests. The macarons were especially delicious and several guests commented that they were the best macarons they had ever eaten.
Sweet Side made everything super easy for us, we wanted a diverse dessert spread with a simple cutting cake, and they walked us through the whole process with no problem. Everything was delicious! We had virtually nothing left after, so the guests clearly loved everything Sweet Side provided. It was great that they could deliver and provide all that we needed for serving. We would recommend them without reservation.
Great bakery, fun cakes, but busy—in the summer they will book out so make sure you get your cake planned in advance. Tasted incredible.
Our venue includes a dessert bar in their catering, so we just needed a single tier cutting cake to complete our dessert options. The signature cake in lemon with buttercream frosting was delicious and looked lovely with our cake topper sign which had small wooden dowels to stick into the cake slightly. Pick up by our wedding coordinator was seamless as far as I know, and what little remains of the cake the next day made for a lovely sweet second course after brunch
We loved working with the Sweet Side for our cakes! We did both our three-tier wedding cake, and a groom's cake (they made a Duke basketball court cake for us in honor of my husband's alma mater). The flavor and moistness of the cake was amazing - all of our guests were commenting on how they don't usually like wedding cake, but that ours were actually delicious! For the main wedding cake we did lemon poppyseed with raspberry filling and I still dream about how yummy it was!
This review is for The Sweet Side's macarons...
We first met The Sweet Side during the I Do Sodo wedding show in Seattle, where they were serving their delicious macarons. We had originally just planned to do a cake and cake bites (also highly recommend - see our BAKED Seattle review), but decided to add in another dessert after tasting those delicious treats.
The Sweet Side was extremely easy to work with and the nutella macarons were a HUGE hit. The gold accent matched our decor perfectly, too! We didn't even make it through half the night before they were all devoured.
I'd highly recommend The Sweet Side for your macarons!
I was married in Sept 2017 in Seattle and worked with Sweetside for my wedding cake.
To be honest, I didn't ever think I'd care about my wedding cake. After the tasting, though, I was very excited. I wanted a simple cake with flower accents that matched flowers on my dress. We discussed the design and I sent the Sweetside team a picture of my dress.
Floored. Pick my jaw up off the floor. They nailed it
The cake was AMAZING in every sense of the word. The cake was beautiful, exactly what I wanted, and matched my dress perfectly. The cake, filling, and buttercream frosting were fantastic -- we received multiple compliments from our wedding guests.
I will, without a doubt, be going back to Sweetside to get a cake for our 1 year anniversary!! Thanks Sweetside, I will be back!
Kara was so wonderful to work with! Not only were the cakes fantastic at the tasting, but she also was very in tune with the style we were going for and created a beautiful sketch design within a matter of minutes, which we fell in love with.
The cake itself at the wedding tasted amazing. We decided not to freeze the top tier and have been eating it all week :)
I would recommend this bakery to anyone, and will definitely be back again.
PS - Thanks to Kara for encouraging us to get the banana cake--it was a HUGE hit at the wedding!
The Sweet Side worked with us to choose a wedding cake that fit our budget, our style, and our taste buds! We loved our cake and so did our guests. The almond cake would have been delicious all on its own, so the fresh raspberry frosting and buttercream frosting were literally and figuratively icing on the cake:) Great quality, beautiful presentation, great customer service throughout the ordering/pickup process. Thank you, thank you!
Really disappointed with our wedding cake considering it was so expensive and It didn't really look like the original inspiration. You would be better off going to Whole Foods or another bakery.
We had a dessert bar instead of a cake, so I can't speak to cake designs. However, the 5 desserts we had were all delicious. Even though we had a smaller guest count than we originally anticipated, there was hardly any dessert left over. Also, they are very reasonably priced.
We had our wedding logo put on the cake and it turned out beautifully! We also couldn't decide between red velvet cake or lemon, but we were able to do both! We had a four tier cake and two of the tiers were lemon and the other two were red velvet. It was nice to have two different options
I had an amazing experience with them from the tasting to the wedding day. However, I was a little disappointed when I saw the cake on the day of. it just wasn't what I envisioned based on the pictures I showed them, but the cake itself was delicious.
There is no question that Kara knows how to bake a cake! She helped us from tasting through the design process to come up with a beautiful cake. What's more, the cake tasted fantastic! We picked two different flavors and both were moist and delicious. I know the bride and groom often don't get to eat at the wedding... the groom and I made a point to hunt that cake down! However, be prepared to pay for this bit of deliciousness, it is definitely one of the pricier companies that we found.
I would highly recommend The Sweet Side - everything was SO smooth and Kara is wonderful! She sat with us and went through all the cake flavors and designs. She's super creative - everything was delivered perfectly and I cannot wait to eat the top tier!
We decided to go untraditional and have a dessert bar with a small wedding cake. Everything was to do for and so incredibly delicious! We had a nice variety of desserts and our wedding cake was perfect and even though smaller than a traditional cake, it was delicious and everything on our dessert bar was gone at the end of the night! Thank you so much for making our wedding so special!
I can't say enough how perfect our dessert bar was at the wedding. We had not wanted to have a large cake at the wedding, but instead little dessert items that people could take easily eat. Talk about the perfect baker for what we were looking for!
Our small cake was so cute and perfect, I felt bad cutting it, but in the end it was so yummy tasting I was glad we did cut it.
We had cupcakes, brownie pops, chocolate dipped pretzels, cookies and cheesecake shooters. Trust me you MUST have the cheesecake shooters!!
The display that was setup was super cute and exactly how I wanted things to look!!
