The Temple

The owner, John Cameron Mitchell (creator of Hedwig & the Angry Inch), is an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church and so can legally officiate weddings (negotiable). The Temple has housed five different churches over its 180 years of service and has been recently re-designated (and zoned) as a church by the City of New Orleans. MAXIMUM CAPACITY: Ballroom—approximately 80 seated (+10 standing) Approximately 150 for the entire downstairs space, inside and out Included is 3,000 sq ft. of downstairs space with three separate entrances, three bathrooms, a huge "Interview With A Vampire"-inspired red and black ballroom (45'x19'/850 sq ft) with stage (19'x9'), baby grand, guitars, sound/DJ booth, all leading into an open bar space (665 sq ft), aMoroccan-inspired kitchen/dining area, a private get-ready bedroom, a screened-in Art Nouveau porch (300 sq ft), and a lovely private backyard (400 sq ft). We're happy to add another three-room upstairs get-ready area with a private bathroom which we call the Jupiter Suite (see the white floor-tiled room), as well as the ultra-luxurious wood-paneled Honeymoon Suite, including the marbled Divine Bathroom and, of course, use of the garden/hot tub. We can also partner with a beautiful nearby outdoor venue for more space and even a lovely Catholic Church, both two blocks away. We can recommend outside wedding planners, catering/bar, table/chair/tent rentals, staff, and entertainment (DJs, local musicians, burlesque, etc). We try to keep the outside noise down after 10 pm for neighbors. Inside, the event can continue late with negotiation. Due to the age of the house, we can't guarantee ADA accessibility for bathrooms -- portapotty and entry ramp rental are possible.
