The Thirsty Whale Bakery

We hired The Thirsty Whale to make our wedding cake, and everything went great! Our cake-trial package was fun and tasty, and the final product looked great and was delicious. Even if you're not normally into cream cheese icing, try their cream cheese icing--it was *extremely* good. The only "problem" was that so many of our wedding guests loved the cake and went back for seconds, that we didn't have any leftovers! Overall we'd highly recommend them.

Thirsty Whale bakery was the perfect choice for your wedding cake and desserts. We opted for small cake and an assortment of flavors for cupcakes. Their tasting box was a great option for us to try the flavors- and there were so many good ones! They were so beyond accommodating by doing drop off, having several different styles of stands to choose from to rent, and giving us to go boxes for any leftovers. Thirsty Whale also had several gluten free flavor options, which was very important for some of my wedding guests.

Thirsty Whale has the best tasting cake out there! We tried a couple other bakeries first and they did not compare to the moist, delicious options from Thirsty Whale! I loved how many flavors and fillings they offer. Angie was really easy to work with for planning the cake decorations! I sent over a few pictures, she asked some clarifying questions, and the result was beautiful! I like surprises and seeing artist’s creativity, so I didn’t ask for a carbon copy of a Pinterest picture but gave inspiration and let Angie do her thing :) The result was everything I hoped for! The guests raved at the flavor and moistness of the cake.

We hired Thirsty Whale Bakery for our wedding day and could not be happier with how our desserts turned out! We started out with the at-home tasting box and were beyond impressed by the quality and uniqueness of flavors available. We ended up with a three-tier cake for ourselves and three different flavors of cupcakes for the guests which was perfect for our large wedding. Each cupcake flavor was better than the last (would especially recommend the stout cake with Bailey's mousse filling!), and we received so many compliments from our guests. Our wedding cake was also stunning and designed exactly how we had pictured it. We'd highly recommend Thirsty Whale for your big day!

Thirsty Whale is the BEST! Our wedding cake was absolutely beautiful. Our dessert bar was a whole another level of amaziness. Everyone kept talking about the salted caramel cheesecake shooters and cupcakes. Megan was phenomenal to work with and very prompt with emails. Megan was SO great to communicate with and work with for our wedding. We had her do an 8" cutting cake for me and my husband, and then an assortment of desserts for the guests. We chose to do cheesecake shooters, cookies, cake pops, and mini cupcakes, with two flavors for each type of dessert. We were able to pick our flavors, and they turned out fabulous! They had absolutely no problem taking our vision of a desert/cactus theme and turning the cake pops into little barrel cacti, succulents/cactus on top of the mini cupcakes, and adding a cactus cake topper for our cutting cake. They all turned out SO beautiful. The option to have everything delivered and set up, with rental stands as well, made our lives so much easier too. HIGHLY recommend booking. The desserts were a huge hit!

Absolutely amazing! They had so many options it was hard to choose what we wanted but everyone at our wedding loved the cupcakes. I was in awe at how moist they were, even the gluten free were so great you wouldn’t know they were gluten free. They also did a great job setting up the display at the venue. I cannot say enough good things about this bakery!

BOOK THEM!!!! We love cake and were really disappointed when we did cake tasting with other vendors but thirsty whale's cake was on another level. The best cake I've ever had and at the lowest price in town! Seriously, our cake was half the cost we were quoted by other vendors who had awful tasting cake. Meghan was SO wonderful to work with! I sent her a few images of cake designs I liked and she took my vision and created a design that was absolutely stunning! We received so many compliments from guests not only on the look of our cake, but that it was the best cake they've ever had. Highly recommend them and plan to use them for any special event we have in the future!

I was really struggling finding a cake baker that was available for my wedding in La Crosse, WI but I'm so happy I found Megan and she was willing to drive to deliver the cake. She was so easy to coordinate with to decide on designs, since we did a 4 tier cake, but I was absolutely beautiful. By far my favorite part of the wedding. It was delicious and we got so many compliments on the look and taste. The kids even loved the fondant and usually that's the first thing people want to take off! We definitely plan to have her make us cakes in the future!

For many people, the highlight of our wedding was the cake. We ordered three different types of sheet cakes - a lemon with raspberry filling, a carrot cake, and a stout cake with baileys filling. They were all delicious. Sarah and Megan were also incredibly easy to work with, incredibly prompt with their responses, and accommodated all our requests. We would highly recommend them for any event - and are thinking of headed over now to their bakery just to eat more of their delicious desserts.

Thirsty Whale is SO worth the hype – this is another vendor we found through this group and I am so thankful we did! They have so many choices to pick for your tasting box and can offer great suggestions if you need! We had an idea in mind for our small wedding cake and we basically gave them the bones of what we were thinking and let them take the wheel. We were SO happy with the final result, they nailed our northern lights/Davy Jones ideas and everything tasted amazing!! Our only regret is not sticking with our original order, the week of the wedding in talking with them we had cut back on our cupcakes since we had a smaller wedding and I wish we had stuck with our original plan because the cupcakes were demolished in the first few minutes that dessert was served so some people missed out on the deliciousness! One thing to note – they no longer do donuts which was a shame because they were a huge hit at our wedding! Literally everything tasted amazing and we couldn’t be happier with our choice to use them. I’m looking forward to working with them for future birthday cakes, etc.

Our donuts from Thirsty Whale were truly amazing and unique! Our guests loved our variety of flavors and how insanely delicious all the options were! We also had a large donut made with our wedding logo on it for cutting with was gorgeous! We still dream about our wedding donuts!

I searched all over for a bakery that would make individual sized wedding cakes for my wedding, and Thirsty Whale was the only place willing to do it! Their team was amazing - so sweet, quick to respond, and of course, their cakes are amazing! When we tasted their cakes we knew we had to book with them. Look no further, thirsty whale is incredible from the fondant to the butter cream to the fillings!! They also make incredible peanut butter cups and are willing to take on any challenge you through at them. Thank you for making my cake dreams come true.

Thirsty Whale makes the best desserts! We did a small cake, cupcakes, and mini cookie bars for our wedding and both the taste and presentation was fantastic. Not sure if they still do this, but when we were researching dessert vendors, Thirsty Whale arranged for take-home cake tastings. I really appreciated their attention to safe practices during tough pandemic times, and my now-husband and I loved taking a box of assorted cakes, frostings, and desserts home to taste at our leisure while enjoying a movie. :) Pricing is very fair here too, and quality is very hard to beat in my opinion. Highly recommend!

Thirsty Whale Bakery is absolutely incredible. My husband and I went to a hosted tasting with them in 2019 to prepare for our wedding in 2020 (which later was postponed to October 2021). My beverage vendor had recommended them, as I told them I was looking for a bakery who could unique cakes beyond just a typical tiered wedding cake. The tasting with Megan, one of the owners of Thirsty Whale, was super fun! We got a little “sampler box” which was delicious. We ultimately decided to go with the following flavor combos for our tiered cake: lemon cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream; chocolate-orange cake with chocolate-orange fudge filling and chocolate buttercream; and amaretto cake with triple-berry mousse filling and vanilla buttercream. The flavor combos that the bakery can do are endless, but these ones were our favorites. I showed inspiration photos to Megan of my vision for my unique wedding cake: a tiered cake that had a geode in it with a crystal geode crown. Megan said she could make it happen and gave us a very fair quote as well. I was excited to see what she and her team would bake up for us. Fast-forward to the wedding day: the cake surpassed anything I could have ever imagined. It was just stunning and the amount of compliments we received on the cake from our guests was non-stop. Many people told me it was the most beautiful cake they had ever seen! It definitely is the most beautiful cake my husband and I have ever seen as well! And it tasted just as fantastic as well! We will have the most amazing memories of our wedding cake forever. I still am having my other vendors and friends talk about that cake!! Megan and her baking team are phenomenal and second to none. I am so thankful that she was recommended to us from our beverage vendor and I will continue to purchase future cakes and goodies from the Thirsty Whale in the future! Oh my gosh. This vendor is amazing!! Their cakes are absolutely phenomenal, and I am so happy we found them! They were wonderful to work with, through COVID and all of its craziness. Their cake tasting box blew my husband and I away, it was so thorough. They had so many options, we struggled to pick our favorites! Once we booked them, they were very easy to work with, and were very generous with their patience, as our guest list went through many COVID changes! We had cupcakes for the guests, and a small cake for my husband and I to cut, and even though I had no idea what I wanted on the cake, I was blown away by their creativity and simplicity. The design fit the style of our wedding flawlessly, and we were so happy to have chosen this vendor for our desserts. Highly recommend!!

Megan and the Thirsty Whale did a phenomenal job for our daughters wedding last weekend. Our wedding cake had a traditional front side and the back half was decorated in Liverpool soccer colors and logo as a surprise for the groom who is a huge Liverpool fan. We also had sheet cakes for a total of 5 flavors. Every flavor was absolutely delicious and beautiful. The Thirsty Whale is a (not so hidden) gem!

We loved this bakery for our wedding day!! They were very easy to coordinate with, and were able to work off just a few pictures and a vague description of what we wanted on our cake/cupcakes. The desserts were delicious, and they have one of the best donuts in the twin cities! They provided a spread of cake, donuts, cupcakes, and cookie bars - guests loved everything and the presentation was beautiful. They even delivered to our venue, which was about 35 minutes outside the city. We would definitely recommend to friends and family!

The bakery produced a elegant and simple cake that flavors were unique and tasty. We are still enjoying the cake three weeks later (although it had been frozen for part of that time).

Best donuts around! Our wedding donuts were an absolute hit with our guests. I absolutely love their lemon poppy seed old fashioned! Thirsty Whale was so easy to work with as things changed during covid. We were not able to do a donut wall display as we originally hoped, but they were so good and easy to serve to guests. We've been so happy to support a local business! We order donuts from Thirsty Whale on the weekend when we need a pick me up.

Thirsty Whale Bakery provided the most phenomenal cakes and cupcakes for my wedding! Locations, times, and plans all had to be adjusted for the wedding due to changing covid restrictions---Thirsty Whale Bakery was more than willing to cater to my needs and changing schedule. Some of these changes had to be made very last minute, but they remained flexible and open to these new plans. Not only did the cakes look beautiful, they were delicious as well. Would HIGHLY recommend this bakery!

Thirsty Whale Bakery definitely exceeded our expectations! We knew the cake tasted amazing because we did a tasting beforehand, but we were blown away with how our cake turned out! It was beautiful! The guests LOVED all of the flavor combos of cupcakes and the cheesecake shooters. Also, we had to move venues at the last minute (covid) from MN to WI, and they were very accommodating and still delivered our cakes much further away than the initial plan, and they set them up beautifully. Highly recommend!

I needed gluten and dairy-free wedding cake and The Thirsty Whale Bakery did an awesome job! It was the best cake I've ever had! They decorated it with cute flowers and they matched our colors perfectly! I will definitely be using them again if I ever need a cake!

Everything tasted so delicious! All of our guests raved about how delicious each item was and we had cheesecake shooters, cookies, mini cupcakes, pb cups, and macarons. Each dessert was so delicious. They were also super accommodating and made each dessert gluten free! We loved our desserts and the set up. I would highly suggest using them for future events! We also got some donuts for our brunch the next day after our wedding. These were not gluten free but people really liked them!

Talk about amazing! You can't go wrong with a single thing at this amazing bakery. They did our wedding at the beginning of August and we couldn't be happier. All of our guest raved about the deserts all night and for a long time after! Our small cake that we used for the cutting was great. Super cute it looked like a birch log since my husband and I spend a lot of time in the outdoors. The tasting that we did was so in depth we left so full we didn't eat dinner! The price was right for the amount of amazing food that they gave to us. Even though with COVID we had to cut down on the number of guest you wouldn't know it by looking at the dessert table. Jen and Kyle were an absolute joy to work with! We wanted a variety of desserts at our wedding so The Thirsty Whale seemed like an obvious choice for us. We had a two-tiered cake, three flavors of cupcakes, and three flavors of donuts. We received SO MANY compliments on all of them! We cut down our guest list significantly due to COVID but decided not to alter our order figuring that our guests could take leftovers home with them ... I think there were maybe two cupcakes and a few slices of cake left for us to take home at the end of the night! All of the desserts were a total hit - would highly, HIGHLY recommend working with The Thirsty Whale (and The Elvis donut (; ).

The Thirsty Whale was absolutely amazing to work with! They made personalized beagle doughnuts for our dessert for our rehearsal dinner, and totally went the extra mile to make sure the beagles on the doughnuts looked just like our two beagles back home. I was honestly shocked at how many cupcake flavors they let us have for our wedding, and our guests have told us multiple times just how delicious every kind was! We had them make a two tiered wedding cake for the head table garnished with gold brush strokes and it was simply stunning - both elegant and clean. I highly recommend using Thirsty Whale Bakery for your big day.

Their desserts are SO SO SO good, people were seriously RAVING about everything. Our cake was super cute, just a very small 3 tier cake. We also had cupcakes and cookies. I also felt like it was very affordable for what we got. Also, they deliver which was amazing to not have to worry about. The only negative is that the bottom tier was supposed to fade from navy to white and I thought the blue was very BLUE BLUE and not very navy but honestly, I cared when I first saw it and then forgot about it.

As a growing business, sometimes communication back and forth isn't prompt but I promise it is worth the wait! Every staff member my husband and I have worked with is kind, helpful and determined to make your wildest dessert dreams come true! We had donuts, donut holes and a small cake at our wedding and I am still getting compliments on how amazing it all was. We rented a donut wall from them and it looked amazing! The only negative was that they did not leave any dessert boxes for us to take the leftover donuts in at the end of the night so we had to improvise with our venue. We also ordered our cake topper through a company they partner with and it was GORGEOUS! We found a design we liked online, sent them a picture and they created a custom piece for us. I will continue to support the Thirsty Whale and I would highly recommend that you check them out!

I can't say enough great things about The Thirsty Whale Bakery. Everything was excellent! The tasting process was simple and informative. The delivery was on time and the cake set up was beautiful. More than anything, the 3-tier cake was gorgeous and tasted even better than in looked. It's a good thing we added extra cupcakes to our order, because they were a hit... including the gluten free cupcakes. The Thirsty Whale team was a pleasure to work with. From the tasting where Jen net is on Sunday because it was the only day I was in town and having cake tasting be so fun, to having us change our flavors after our initial choices and adding gluten free cupcakes last minute. Our favorite neighborhood donut shop that knocks out the best tasting cupcakes/cakes you could ever want! We absolutely loved working with the team at Thirsty Whale. We had 4 different flavored cupcakes and a 2 tier cake for the head table. They even added our figurines that we requested of ourselves with our dog on the back of the cake. Everyone devoured the cupcakes and were raving about them all night (and month). We loved being able to support our local bakery and showcase their talent at our wedding! The best ever :)

I received SO MANY compliments on our cake! First of all, with the tasting, you get to try a bunch (I believe 10) different cake flavors in cupcake form as well as a bunch of different fillings and all of their buttercream flavors. We had so much fun trying them and brainstorming our design! I had a few questions for them along the way, and they were so kind and responsive with my questions – I even had a slight update to the design, which they gladly changed for me and NAILED IT. We had a total of 4 different flavors/fillings for the wedding and had compliments on all of them! Seriously, people were telling us that it was the best wedding cake they’ve ever had at a wedding. Not to mention affordable! Such a great value for such good quality.

The Thirsty Whale Bakery has some of the most delicious desserts I have ever had! Our wedding cake was so good, and we opted to do a dessert bar for our guests. The Thirsty Whale had so many options to choose from for our dessert bar with so many flavors! The communication with the vendor was terrific. They answered all my questions promptly and were very clear about the cost for all the desserts in their invoice, which made it easy for me to keep track of. Also, since we lived out of town leading up to our wedding, they were so good about doing a tasting box that we could take home with us to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. Overall, a great experience with the staff and eating their delicious creations!

Thirsty Whale has so many delicious choices for desserts! We chose to go with a small three tiered cake for me and my husband (and the wedding party) to avoid cake cutting fees for 200 people. Initially I was a little frustrated that we could not only order a wedding cake, but had to do ALL of our desserts through the Thirsty Whale as I was on a budget. We ended up liking the desserts so much that we ended up booking with Thirsty Whale and ordered a variety of cupcakes and donuts for guests (to again avoid cake cutting fees). The donut wall was a HIT! After the wedding, that's all guests talked about! Even guests that weren't able to make it heard through the grapevine about the donut wall. Our only regret was not ordering enough donuts! Jen is timely in her responses to you and answering questions which was helpful!

I met with the owner for the taste testing; she was super helpful in deciding how much cake we needed for our wedding reception. She also recommended a naked cake for my husband as he doesn`t like frosting that much, and he totally loved it! They had quick and friendly delivery and were a joy to work with. Best of all, the cake was delicious!!

Working with Thirsty Whale was extremely easy. They have you come in and do a taste test of different flavors, frostings and fillings that you are considering so you can narrow it down for your wedding day. From there, they go over exactly what you're looking for, whether it be donuts, cupcakes, or an intricate cake. We went with an array of donuts and cupcakes with a small 4" and 6" cake for the bride and groom. The day of the wedding, they came and delivered it with no problems. It looked absolutely beautiful and all of it tasted delicious. I cannot recommend them enough!
