We had an incredible wedding reception at the Vanguard. The team did an exceptional job of prioritizing our wedding during what was a very busy weekend around town. A real standout of the venue was the food—our guests constantly tell us it was the best wedding food and we really agree. The catering and event staff went out of their way to accommodate us and our loved ones (including some complex dietary needs and a three-year-old ringbearer) to really ensure the day was flawless. The cocktail hour and reception spaces were modern, chic, and very comfortable for our 130 guests. The hotel itself was beautiful, and we had a spacious suite with a nice view to get ready in on wedding day. Our one issue worth mentioning was that our room block for guests had to be curtailed by the hotel when events at the Michigan Stadium were announced after we had booked our wedding, meaning that many guests who would have otherwise stayed at the hotel were unable…that was the downside of a wedding at a hotel. Despite that, staff all across the hotel (even the lobby bar, restaurant, and valet) made sure to make us feel valued all weekend long. We would definitely recommend a wedding at the Vanguard, and we’ll look forward to many occasions at the hotel and restaurant in years to come. This truly deserves to be a premiere wedding venue in Ann Arbor.
When searching for a wedding venue, my husband and I wanted something classic, timeless, and elegant with guest rooms on site. The Vanguard Hotel was absolutely perfect. From the start, working with the sales and catering team was a pleasure. They made the entire planning process seamless, stress free, and genuinely enjoyable. As the wedding day approached, we felt confident knowing every detail had been thoughtfully planned.
That confidence was reinforced on the day of our wedding, when the entire staff went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly. The attention to detail was exceptional, from setting up our table numbers and cocktail hour decorations exactly as we envisioned to providing a dedicated server just for the head table. They even set aside appetizers for the bridal party during photos, which was such a thoughtful touch.
In addition, the food was high quality and delivered in a timely manner, and our guests continued to rave about both the service and the venue throughout the evening. We heard countless people say it was the best wedding they had ever been to.
We also thoroughly enjoyed the hotel rooms. The bridesmaids used the suite to get ready, and it provided a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere to prepare for the day. We were also able to take photos on the suite balcony overlooking Ann Arbor, which made for a beautiful and memorable backdrop.
The Vanguard Hotel delivered an outstanding experience. From booking to the wedding day, everything was truly amazing, and we cannot recommend them enough.

We are located right in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor, across from the University of Michigan Medical Center. Our 12,000 sq. feet of uniquely designed event space will be perfect for celebrations of up to 250 guests. We will have space that is perfect for ceremonies, receptions, post-wedding brunches, and everything in between. We also have two beautiful private dining spaces located off of our restaurant, La Serre - a French-inspired brasserie located on the lobby level of the hotel. These private dining rooms will be ideal for more intimate celebrations of up to 30 guests. The Victors Ballroom is perfect for larger affairs; this refined space boasts an open floor plan that you can customize for an unforgettable evening of dinner and dancing.
