The facility that would become The Yale Theater was constructed in 1910 as the Capitol Hill Theater. This open-air performing arts venue gained its current name in 1921, and shortly afterward, began to run movie screenings. The theater’s iconic facade and marquee were added in 1946, with the facility thoroughly modernized. This was a fixture of the south-side business district along Oklahoma City’s 25th Street until the 1980s oil bust struck. The theater’s management attempted to adapt to the changed circumstances, holding Spanish-language movie screenings and wrestling matches. It took until 2017 to see another change of fortune for this building when developers Steve and Aimee saw its potential beneath years of neglect. They started renovations in 2018, with the iconic facade restored the next year. This art deco construction is once again a hub of activity, welcoming both locals and visitors alike. The Yale Theater offers a package for wedding service with a number of add-ons available. This package includes the services of a venue coordinator and full private access to the venue complete with get-ready rooms and a catering kitchen. This facility also features an art deco-style lobby with a restored ticket booth, an upstairs mezzanine level, and on-site private parking.
