Thorne Artistry

l way of instantly becoming your best friend—someone who makes you laugh, keeps you calm, and somehow knows exactly what you need before you even say it. Her talent speaks for itself. She enhances your natural beauty in a way that makes you feel effortlessly radiant and completely yourself. My hair and makeup held up perfectly through tears, hugs, and hours on the dance floor—and she even made sure my husband felt just as confident and photo-ready, too. Amanda’s entire team was incredible—professional, kind, and such a fun group to have in the room on the morning of the wedding. They kept everything running smoothly and made everyone look and feel their absolute best. Amanda is the kind of person who makes the entire getting-ready experience feel special, grounded, and full of joy. She’s not just incredibly skilled—she’s a light to be around. I can’t imagine our wedding day without her.

lf on my wedding day and Amanda just exceeded my expectations. She gave me the most natural glowy look. I’ve truly never felt more beautiful in my life. I got lucky enough to have her do my make up twice as it down poured on my wedding day and got to revisit my venue a 2nd time for more pictures and again she made me feel unbelievably beautiful. I couldn’t recommend her enough!!!

uesting a second consultation to completely change my look, and she was so receptive and welcoming. She truly listened, collaborated with me, and made sure we landed on something I absolutely loved. On the morning of the wedding, she arrived fully prepared with her amazing team. I had asked for a very natural, low-maintenance look (which can be hard to find in the wedding world), and Amanda delivered it flawlessly. She made me feel like the best version of myself: polished, radiant, and still completely me. And beyond her artistry, she went above and beyond in so many ways, including literally helping me get into my dress when things got tricky. I genuinely don’t think I would have made it into it without her 😅. Amanda is not only incredibly talented at what she does, she’s also a calming, joyful presence to have around on such an important day. She’s a lifesaver, a true professional, and just an all-around wonderful human being. I feel so lucky to have had her as part of my wedding day team. 💕

asted ALL DAY. even during a 4 hour photo shoot in the baking sun while I was actively sweating. So incredible. I highly highly recommend!

ook any further. Amanda worked with me through my engagement photoshoot, hair and makeup trials, and of course the wedding day. Amanda is talented, kind, attentive, professional, and brings a calming presence to what can be a hectic and emotional time. She truly listens and thoughtfully blended her expertise with my preferences to create a look that felt like an elevated version of myself. On the wedding day, Amanda also provided hair and makeup services for my mom and Babe of Honor. She made each of us feel confident, cared for, and beautiful. Beyond making us look our best, Amanda contributed to the joy and ease of the day, and I’m so grateful to have had her as part of the entire experience!

nded up having two hair trials before the wedding, which allowed her to learn how to work with my hair and curl pattern. Looking back on videos, I love how much movement my updo still had! I felt beautiful!

earing up during multiple parts of the day and spending lots of time on the dance floor! I did a hair and makeup trial with her before our engagement shoot which turned out beautifully. She then did my hair and makeup for my wedding day and she and two of her team members took care of my whole family! Everyone was so happy with her services and she was an extremely calming presence when we had some last minute mishaps with my dress and some hair pieces. I got so many compliments, and my hair felt like silk! She even gave me tips for how to tackle the San Diego frizz moving forward which has been so helpful, and taught me about some amazing natural hair and cosmetic brands. Not only is she an expert and perfectionist in what she does, she is also a pleasure to work with and she makes the time you spend sitting while getting hair and makeup down extremely enjoyable. She even stayed late to add on services when my brother-in-law's Mom decided to get her makeup done last minute! I highly recommend Amanda for your wedding or special event-you'll be in great hands!

tly what you envisioned on your wedding day. Her positivity blossoms and her energy make you feel comfortable. I felt beautiful on my wedding day and Amanda is a huge part of that feeling I will never forget. She also did my mother and sisters hair and makeup. She felt so at peace with her presence, and she did such a beautiful job with their hair and makeup. I would give Amanda more than 5 stars if there was an option. My memory will always be a happy one on my wedding and that is because of Amanda. She has the most beautiful soul and is truly an artist.

ere perfect. She also made my mother look like a queen. She never wears makeup and she felt so beautiful. I am so appreciative of Amanda’s true attention to detail. I could tell she is a true artist and my face was a canvas. A family friend recommended her and she is kind, outgoing, and we all enjoyed talking with her while we were getting ready. My ceremony was small and intimate and my only regret is not having her do my friend’s hair and makeup too because she is a true artist! Thank you Amanda for making me feel like a princess and my mother like a queen for a day!

feel like myself and Amanda nailed it! She is so sweet and easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable, even with some tweaks I wanted to make from the trial for the wedding day. She was very responsive and has a calm and fun personality that made for a smooth and stress-free morning. I was in love with my hair and makeup! Thank you, Amanda!

le and Amanda delivered with the most beautifully intricate (but somehow still looked effortless) updo. As someone who doesn't wear much makeup, it was important to me to have a natural, glowy look to my makeup and Amanda took care to do just that. I also loved that Amanda uses really clean hair and makeup products. Amanda and her assistant were both so sweet and easy to talk to. It made for a relaxing and fun morning on the day of the wedding. Thank you Amanda!

nted a look that was beautiful but also felt natural and true to myself, and Amanda executed this perfectly. I felt beautiful on our wedding day and looking back at the photos I’m still in awe of how wonderfully they turned out!! Amanda is also a pleasure to work with. She’s kind and easy to talk to, and was really accommodating when we needed to reschedule our engagement photos at the last minute due to bad weather. Overall, I highly recommend Amanda!

really well. She used to be a radio DJ, and transitioned into hair and makeup because she wanted people using more natural, sustainable products that were better for the environment and skin. The bride looked beautiful on her wedding day, and the groom looked amazing too! We're glad we both did hair and makeup. Amanda really took her time to make sure everything looked perfect. As a mixed-race couple, we wanted to make sure to find someone that was used to, or able to work with darker skin tones. She knew exactly what to do. The makeup stayed on even with us sweating on a hot June day. Jennifer got lots of compliments! We both look gorgeous in the teaser photos from our wedding. We know the rest of our photos be ohh so beautiful! We highly recommend Thorne Artistry for your wedding or special event.

at made me feel beautiful for my wedding day. All of my bridesmaids and myself raved about how they felt like an elevated version of themself. Amanda is incredibly knowledgeable at what she does and educated me on the different makeup looks and helped me find what is best for me. We did a trial in advance so I felt great going into wedding day. She is also just one of the nicest people and was a joy to be around. Thank you Amanda! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a talented beauty expert.

r my engagement photos! All of my friends and family who she did hair and makeup for the wedding for absolutely loved her too!! Amanda first did my engagement session hair and makeup and I loved her so much we had her travel all the way from San Diego to Northern California to be with us on our wedding day!! Our wedding was originally in Big Sur and we had to scramble last minute when the highway collapsed to move it up to sea ranch. Even with a date change and further distance Amanda was so flexible and accommodating. We will forever be grateful for her and her magic! Book her immediately!!

nd continued the incredible theme of the day. We are also fortunate to call her a good friend. Five stars is not enough!

. Every HMU artists was an absolute perfectionist and carefully listened to all of our small HMU requests/ tweaks. I could not recommend Amanda and her team enough!!! From my first prompt interaction with her via phone, to quick email responses throughout our wedding timeline, to day of preparedness- Amanda is the definition of an A+++ wedding vendor! Thank you so much, Amanda! My girls and I have never felt more beautiful!

ents

ed it out of the park. As someone has not had the best experiences getting their hair and makeup done in the past, Amanda gained my trust immediately and truly made me feel so beautiful! Fast forward to our wedding day where I did not want to force my bridesmaids to get up at 5am to get ready LOL. Amanda brought a team with herself and 4 other hair and makeup artists to get us all ready at a reasonable hour and every single one of my bridesmaids loved their hair and makeup! And of course I loved mine too because Amanda doesn’t miss! Thank you so so much Amanda <3

. I cannot gush enough about how beautiful I felt the day of my wedding. Amanda has such a lovely, calm energy, and I felt so good while she did her beauty magic with me. It was a perfect experience. Amanda is an absolute gem of a human and is a brilliant makeup and hair artist. I am so lucky to have had her for my wedding, and I highly recommend hiring her for yours, too!

sending a few inspo photos to Amanda she was able to help us achieve our dream looks for the wedding. We could not be more excited coming out of our trial, and were thrilled with how we looked on wedding day! We were a two bride wedding with enormous bridal parties, which we know is not an easy feat to get that many girls ready on a tight timeline, but Amanda and her team were up to the task. They went above and beyond to give each of our bridesmaids the attention they needed while still keeping us on track with our timeline. Everyone was so fun to work with, and we couldn't be happier with how our girls looked! I can't thank our wedding planner, Jill, enough for referring us to Amanda. I would recommend her to absolutely anyone, and hope to find myself back in SD with hair and makeup needs so we can hire her again!

looks because I loved her work so much! Heading into the process, I had never had my hair and make-up done before, and I appreciated that she took the time to listen to my half-baked beauty ideas and translate them into three separate looks that were all beautiful in their own way and still made me feel like me. I have never had so many compliments in my life! And I am so happy with how the looks turned out in real life and in my photos from the events. I am especially pleased with how Amanda was able to transform my thin and fine hair—something I am very insecure about—into magically thick buns. Amanda is also just a joy to hang out with. I ended up spending time in the chair with Amanda three times the week of my wedding and I never tired of the conversation, music, or overall calming presence she brought during that hectic time period. Amanda also uses a great team and my bridal party loved the looks that Amanda and the additional stylist put together for the wedding day. If you want to look stunning on your wedding day (or for your engagement shoot, rehearsal dinner, etc.), hire Amanda!

h I thought was hard to find. She also does a wide range of make up and hairstyles on different skin tones/skin and hair types/ethnicities. From our first communication and finally meeting her in-person at my H + MU trial, she was warm, friendly, and made you feel comfortable. She was very responsive and she definitely knows her stuff! During my H + MU trial, I wanted a natural look for my makeup. She executed that well. But a week before my wedding, I decided to kick it up a notch with the makeup and really liked the natural glam look. So I reached out to Amanda right away and told her what I wanted. Even though I was super nervous about telling her a week before the wedding, she responded quickly and was up for the idea! On the wedding day, she and her team went above and beyond for making myself, bridesmaids, junior bridesmaid, and mothers feel and look beautiful! Not only that, Amanda did a small but wonderful thing, which I will never forget. She asked me if she can do my mom’s H + MU as my mom sat and watched me get mine done. My mom has never had her makeup done, but Amanda made sure that my mom’s first experience went great. That small, little thing meant everything! If you want a person who is gentle and kind-hearted with a fun personality for your wedding day, Amanda is definitely your girl! She is pure magic and talented! I can’t thank her enough for the amazing work she has done!

f the work she has done - STUNNING! Amanda was incredibly warm and kind through multiple postponements from the start of planning our wedding in early 2019 to finally celebrating July 3, 2022. Amanda and her team made me and my wedding party feel calm, beautiful & special - exactly the vibe you are looking for on your wedding day! I had a wonderful time getting to know Amanda - she is one really cool gal. Thank you to Amanda and the Thorne Artistry team for all of the stunning looks and great vibes, and for being a part of my specula once in a lifetime day!

ting your beautiful qualities without making you feel like someone just caked on a bunch of makeup. Here are the reasons why I would hire her for your wedding. Your package includes a trial hair and makeup - most people do but Amanda takes it step further and really gives you honest advice. Explaining not only what will look good on you but what will photograph well. (I highly recommend using this day for your engagement shoot and or some kind of photoshoot with your wedding photographer it allowed me to see exactly how I would look on our wedding day) Detail oriented - she will take her time and make sure your look is up to her high standards not only for you but for your whole bridal party she made sure everyone's makeup and hair was in unison however unique to their own looks. Experienced - because of her experience the process of hair and makeup from start to finish goes relatively quickly however you do not lose the quality and personal touches. Kind and fun to be around - Wedding days can be stressful mainly because there are a lot of moving parts, but Amanda makes you feel calm not only with her fun personality but also because she has done this for so long you feel in very capable hands knowing you will get exactly what you want for your wedding day look. I could go on and on about Amanda but I'll leave you with this. If you want to feel absolutely gorgeous on your special day she is the perfect fit! I have never gotten more complements on my hair and makeup and never felt more beautiful. She truly has a gift and I would recommend her to anyone and everyone for your special life events! ESPECIALLY YOUR WEDDING DAY! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!

bring an assistant for the day of, which was lovely having a little extra time and not as early of a morning. Amanda is so friendly and easy going. I look forward to another opportunity to have her do my hair and makeup!!

ntastic at interpreting what everyone wanted and made us all feel so incredibly beautiful. Not to mention that her kindness and positivity is such a lovely presence to be surrounded by on your wedding day. She was also incredibly responsive leading up to the day. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

t she is the sweetest human. I feel so lucky to have found her for my wedding and would recommend her to anyone who is on the hunt for a hair and makeup artist who will listen to you, create the look you envisioned, and make you feel so beautiful on your wedding day! 10/10!!!!!

y use super clean products and make you feel so beautiful! I would recommend her to anyone!

es or bridesmaids in weddings that provided her hair/makeup. She originally had my day booked, but the stars aligned and due to a cancellation, I was able to have her! She did my hair and makeup and also had an amazing team who did hair/makeup for 11 bridesmaids, the mother of the bride, the mother of the groom and 3 flower girls. She managed this enormous crew masterfully! Everyone looked incredibly stunning and Amanda and all of her support staff did an amazing job! On top of all of that, Amanda is just the sweetest soul and the absolute best energy to be around! She is so fun to talk to and has such fun stories to share. I absolutely loved my time with her and need to figure out ways that I can continue to work with her. Thank you Amanda for being the best!

cated at the last minute. Amanda literally SAVED THE DAY. From our first communication she was warm, friendly, and quick to respond & answer all of my questions. She went above and beyond to fit me into her packed schedule and I honestly could not have gotten luckier! As for her actual work on my bridal hair & make-up...she did a FLAWLESS job, it was truly the most beautiful I've ever felt! I had a vague idea of the look I was going for but Amanda's directed questions & suggestions really captured the braided up-do & bold yet natural look I was envisioning. Amanda is truly talented at what she does and can really bring any bride's vision to life. In addition, she is SUPER knowledgeable on skin and hair products. I was nervous about my hair not being long enough for the up-do that I wanted but Amanda really took the time to recommend texture adding hair products & prepped my hair to make it happen. She is incredibly attentive and detail oriented which leaves you walking away with hair and make-up more beautiful than you could've imagined. I truly cannot recommend Amanda enough, she is hands down THE BEST hair and make-up artist I've ever worked with! Not only is she incredibly talented but her calming presence and fun/outgoing personality make her such a pleasure to be around. Thank you for everything Amanda, I cannot wait to work together again next year :)

re hairstylists and we’re so impressive from the hair to the make up, everything was perfection. I’m so happy with the outcome, flexibility, and responsiveness! 11/10!!!

to working with her again for future events. I would HIGHLY recommend hiring Amanda. She will make you feel comfortable and look flawless!

Amanda is so kind and professional and made my daughter feel so special and cared for the whole day. Everyone felt safe and she made the whole day really fun and not the least bit stressful. we even finished ahead of schedule!! Amanda even did the bride's hair and makeup for the rehearsal dinner! I felt the most beautiful I have ever felt at the wedding and everyone told me how much they loved my hair and makeup. The bride looked absolutely gorgeous and all of her wedding party were thrilled with their hair and makeup. Amanda and her team are the absolute best!!

She was extremely flexible and I can’t thank her and her assistant enough!

he literally saved the day by stepping in and offering her services. I wanted to book with her originally, so it was like the stars aligned! Not only was she an absolute rock star about making me comfortable and excited about getting dolled up, but she’s as amazing in person. She personalized my look so flawlessly and makeup and hair comes so natural to her, it’s unreal to watch and be a part of. She is also so knowledgeable about skin care and ingredients. My hair and makeup were more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. Best of all, I left feeling so confident and as if I made a friend! If you’re reading this review BOOK THORNE ARTISTRY, it will be the best decision you make!

After seeing before and after pictures from all four stylists, I went with Amanda. Her before and afters were the most impressive to me. She has a way of accentuating each clients best features. At my makeup and hair trail Amanda was exactly how I imagined she would be. She was so kind and such a great listener. She took in consideration all my concerns and made great suggestions. (Go with the glam eyelashes!) On the day of the wedding she and her team (Candace and Natalie) provided full hair and makeup for myself, five bridesmaids, two moms, and my sister. Amanda and her team were so sweet and they seemed like we had known them forever. We felt so comfortable with them. Everyone loved their makeup and hair! Amanda helped me with my dress and also was a calming force through some anxiety that I was experiencing the morning of. I would refer Amanda to everyone that is looking for hair/makeup for any occasion.

men most important to me felt as beautiful as I did. The work that Amanda and Candace (I think?) did for us was so beyond makeup and hair. The morning was an empowering, beautiful time together, with talented and artistic women that would ask what we want, and take that to what they knew would bring out the best in each of us. Watching each of these women smile after their service or while watching eachother was something I will feel and remember as one of the most beautiful parts of the day. Amanda then followed us to the venue to do touch up with us until the ceremony. This was helping us (me) tighten up some curls or freshen up after a few happy tears or even just with the little sweat around my face during some of the processes of the day. During this time we valued her opinion on jewelry or outfit questions, her help with the corset on my dress, staging makeup photos, placing my veil, or even providing a steamer for one of my gal's dresses. She felt like part of the family, and we were all sad to see her go, though I think we all felt more beautiful and confident than we could have without her. If you have any wavering on whether you want these services or with who, I would encourage anyone/everyone to reach out to her. She is prompt, the trial was wonderful, and I don't think that our day would have been as easy, relaxed, or beautiful without her. She was excited with us and our ideas for hair, but will also advise what she thinks she will be best for you. She helps you see the beauty in yourself makeup free, and then focuses on enhancing your best parts more than changing anything about you. I will truly never forget the smiles I saw on my beautiful women that morning.

caring people that I know. I was tremendously lucky to find Amanda, and sincerely privileged to have her do my make-up all throughout my wedding weekend as well as for our “first look”. The only thing about her that makes me sad is that I don’t live in San Diego and cannot have my hair and make-up done by Amanda for all kinds of events! Amanda’s warmth and calm confidence radiate from her. From the moment that I met her, Amanda put me at ease, which is not an easy feat. We actually first spoke during a get-to-know-you phone call and when I hung up, I couldn’t believe that we had just met; it felt like I had just spoken to an old friend. Amanda was one of the few partners for our wedding that I trusted completely to work her magic. Her skills and organization were especially appreciated after having gone through a couple of terrible trials prior to finding Amanda. During my wedding weekend, she created 3 unique looks for me. I did not have to provide any directives as Amanda took the time and energy to understand my skin, how I like to carry myself etc. and applied her skills and great experience to come up with differentiated and beautiful looks. While you may think that the dresses would have stolen the show, in fact, I got more compliments on my make-up than anything else. Amanda also did my best friend’s make-up; my best friend and I have had our make-up done together for countless weddings / parties, but never have I ever seen her blue eyes look so unbelievably stunning as when Amanda did her fine work. My best friend is pregnant, so Amanda’s glamifying and making her feel gorgeous was even more appreciated. Lastly, my favorite element about working with Amanda is her calm presence. The wedding planning process and the event(s) themselves were overwhelming and stressful. Amanda managed to keep me calm during them – in large part because I had complete trust in her and her skills, and also because of what a warm and reassuring force she provides. The best decision I made was having Amanda with me during the entire wedding weekend. It took away all worries / stress about touch-ups, allowed me to mix-up my looks, and most importantly, to share my special weekend with a very special person and to spend more time with her! As I look back on my wedding, I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to meet and work with Amanda – she is truly an INCREDIBLE artist and person.

k and wasn't extremely impressed with any of the other makeup and hair artists I had looked at. I was EXTREMELY particular when searching for a hair and makeup artist, and Amanda was the only one (out of a countless number of people) who seemed to be able to create the natural look I was going for. I don't think I was ever able to accurately describe exactly what I wanted, but Amanda recreated the image I had in my head and exceeded every single one of my expectations. I would not have changed a single thing about my wedding day look, and I truly cannot thank her enough!! She is so incredibly talented and such an absolute joy to be around! I would choose Amanda over and over again without giving it a second thought. I cannot recommend her highly enough!!

eekends in a row of familial couch crashers. Needless to say, I did not look great when I walked into her studio. She was able to transform me into not only a normal looking human again, but a gorgeous one at that. My hair and makeup looked flawless! Amanda is easy to talk with, incredibly knowledgeable about the industry, and had a very calming presence that I knew I would need on the big day. She was “the one!” On the day of the wedding, Amanda and her team could not have been more professional, punctual, and perfect. Everyone’s hair and makeup looked beautiful and I have never looked better. All thanks to her! She listened to what I was looking for and did JUST that. I would recommend Amanda to anyone looking to have flawless everything for your special occasion! She is truly the best and such a great person to boot. Thanks, Amanda!

ike the best versions of themselves. We had a wide range of hair types (long and thick, short, straight, etc) and she was able to offer great advice on what would work best for our hair type and what would be most flattering. On top of her amazing skills, she's an awesome person to work with! She is fun to chat with and put everyone at ease (she even offered lavender oil when the nerves started to build up). I can't recommend her more! Go check out her Instagram and you'll see what an amazing job she does! I'm from the Chicago area so we weren't able to do a trial or meet Amanda before booking, but her Instagram had the best work by far of what we'd looked at. We decided to take a chance and I'm so glad I did!

ustomize the inspiration to highlight my personal features perfectly. She listened to my concerns and requests after our trial and made the adjustments so that my day of look was everything i wanted. She used airbrush make-up and my makeup lasted all afternoon and night (it was so hot and humid in San Diego that day). I also have frizzy curly hair which she was able to tame into an elegant curly up do (curly haired girls - she knows what she's doing with our hair). I highly recommend her and hope I'll have an excuse to use her incredible talent again.

professional, easy to communicate with leading up to the wedding, and were able to create the look we were going for PERFECTLY. I had so much fun chatting with Amanda while she did my hair and makeup, it made the time just fly by. Her assistants were so patient, sweet and talented—and they absolutely nailed the natural look that my mom was going for! Side note—I was self conscious on the big day because of a pre wedding breakout, and Amanda did a flawless job concealing, as well! Look no further; you have found a wonderful person to take care of you on the big day! :)
