Our daughter had the wedding of her dreams in June at the Top of the World! Top of the World accommodated our needs throughout the wedding weekend, including accommodations for the bridal party, rehearsal brunch, all stages of getting dressed and prepared for the "big event", the first look, ceremony, cocktail hour and reception.
The venues at Top of the World are literally, "out of this world" in terms of beauty! Spectacular backdrop of Lake George for the wedding ceremony. Views of both the lake and the Green Mountains from the reception tent, which is pitched around beautiful gardens that all add to the natural beauty of the setting. Beautiful separate setting for the "first look", as well. We received so many comments from our guests about how beautiful the location was. Many guests wandered out to the 10th tee (location of the ceremony) at some point during the reception to snap their own pictures! Breathtaking view!
Lillian was terrific to work with -- tremendously supportive of our daughter's vision for her wedding. She provided personal attention throughout the process, allowing our daughter and her fiance to highly customize the event to match their dreams.
One big selling point for our daughter was fact that Lillian and her team committed to "flipping the tent" as a backup ceremony in the event of rain. While we were blessed with perfect weather and did not need the alternative arrangements, this was a key differentiating point in venue selection, as our daughter did not want to have any chance of being married in a conference room.
We opted to house the wedding party at the Inn at the Top of the World. This provided them extra space and also a special setup for the bridal party and groomsmen to enjoy time together. The large and small apartments provided perfect space for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, respectively.
We can't say enough about this venue. Beautiful place and wonderful people to work with! Thanks for helping to make our daughter's wedding the day of her dreams!
This rating could easily have been a 5--if not for one incredibly important detail that detracted from the entire event. First-the positive--SPECTACULAR setting, very unique and charming (doesn't at all feel like'run of the mill' event venue) . The food was OUTSTANDING. The chef was wonderful--I had the chance to meet her early in the day and she was genuinely excited about preparing delicious and memorable food for the event. There were also some waitstaff there helping with set up and doing whatever they could to accommodate our needs. And then there was...the bartender. I have worked in service/ hospitality industry for years, from fast food to study at the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. I have never, ever experienced such poor service as I did at the bar at ToW. The bartender acted as if every request for a drink were an imposition, she made snide comments about guests. She didn't smile, say thank you or acknowledge anyone's presence while they waited for a drink. A simple, "I'll be right with you" goes a long way. ALL the guests were commenting on the poor service and wondering if we had done something to upset her--and this was in the first hour that the bar was open! Honestly, this was a crowd that was working hard to lighten things up-we started out polite, leaving generous gratuities, and actually strategizing about how to get waited on and joking about 'whose turn it was' to order drinks from her. Even if I were serving burgers at McDonalds, I'd offer polite, responsive service. It seems like a baseline expectation at an establishment such as Top of the World. The affair was beautiful and the rudeness of the bartender just became a running joke. To receive a text from the host the next day, apologizing for the poor service was heartbreaking--but the experience with the bartender was that pervasive. All I can say is at least she was consistent--she was equally cranky to everyone, not just a few unruly guests. I understand that many waitstaff put in long days, may have an occasional bad day, and deal with unreasonable people-but in this case, the people were polite (maybe a little excited/exuberant--but well trained bartenders know how to make that work for them!) and actually working hard to get good service. I don't intend to in any way be rude or for this to be a personal attack--I just hope that future patrons/ToW can use the info for future event planning.
I can't say enough good things about hosting our wedding at Top of the World Golf Resort. What a wonderful place, run by truly thoughtful people. We always felt looked after and like our wedding was truly special. This is not a wedding factory, even if they are booked with weddings through most of the season. The weekend was dedicated to us and our family and friends. The vista and grounds are exactly what we wanted: gorgeous but unpretentious. The highlight, though, is the food. This place is first and foremost a farm-to-table restaurant and the quality of our menu was truly stellar: high quality, well-prepared and with just the right amount of creativity.
