- Richard & Melissa CarrierOwnersTotal Events was the brain child of Richard Carrier, an Albany native and graduate of Schenectady Community College. Rich also earned a degree in Hospitality Management from University of Nevada Las Vegas. His knowledge for the hospitality industry was further refined during his 15 years at the legendary Las Vegas Hilton, and subsequently as the Director of Catering when the Rio Hotel & Casino was launched. Wanting to be closer to his family, he and his wife Melissa returned to the Albany area. With his entrepreneur spirit and passion for the event industry, he launched Total Events in 1999 from the basement of their Ballston Lake home. His drive and leadership drove the company to exponential growth and the formation of an amazing team of event professionals that are all part of the “Total Events’ family”. Rich is a hands-on General Manager and resident dog whisperer to our team’s family of dogs that visit the office. Rich would be nowhere without his loving and self-driven wife, Melissa Carrier. Also a graduate of University of Nevada Las Vegas, Melissa’s professional background includes sales at IBM and Vice President of Sales and Marketing for an international technology firm. Energetic and resourceful, Melissa’s optimism is contagious throughout the Total Events team. She spearheads all Marketing and Financial aspects of the business, but don’t be surprised to see her on a ladder installing some new drapery inspiration. Rich was recently honored as a top 50 Distinguish Alumni of Schenectady Community College and serves on the Advisory Board at the College. Melissa serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for Discover Albany. Rich and Melissa’s pride and joy are their children, Justin & Rachel. The Carrier’s love to travel and enjoy spending days cruising on their boat with family and friends.
- Joell ViscusiSenior Event SpecialistJoell brings 20 years of event industry experience to Total Events! A graduate of Schenectady County Community College majoring in Marketing and Business, Joell has worked at some of the premier venues in the Capital Region as an event & wedding coordinator, as well as on the management team. We’re not saying she knows everything and everyone, but she’s pretty close. A lifelong resident of Schenectady, Joell and her family have a long history in the area with a family-owned business, Casa Visco, where her husband, Bill, works. Her son, Cameron, is a United States Marine and her step-son, Will John, is currently attending college. What does this mean for us? Well, in short, we hit the jackpot! Joell’s Mother Hen meets seasoned professional energy equates to our staff feeling like there is no problem they can’t solve, a ready teammate whenever they need a hand and a beautiful charcuterie board or gourmet lunch lugged to every job site to keep their spirits high and their belly full thanks to Momma-JoJo. When she’s not designing spectacular events and spreading her positive vibes over everything she touches, Joell and her family enjoy taking their boat out, antiquing and taking out their motorcycle.

From an early age, she immersed herself in the industry, following in the footsteps of her mother, grandmother, and great grandmother by helping at her family’s estate. This early exposure instilled in her a deep appreciation for the power of genuine connections. After graduating with a dual degree from Hofstra University, Makayla embarked on a successful career in sales and marketing. Beyond the professional realm, Makayla’s creativity knows no bounds. Whether thrift shopping, tending to her thriving collection of houseplants or engaging in artistic endeavors like painting, building, or crafting stained glass, she finds solace in expressing herself through various mediums. In fact, her love for all things DIY led her to become a valued member of the Home Depot team during the pandemic. From there, her adventurous spirit led her to explore new horizons as a carpenter's apprentice, showcasing her versatility and willingness to learn. Makayla is marrying her high school sweetheart in the fall of 2023. Fueling their shared dreams, their next goal is to acquire land and convert a school bus into a charming tiny home. They hope to embark on a journey across the country, accompanied by their three beloved pets. Makayla’s journey led her to Total Events, where she discovered the perfect fusion of two of her greatest passions: creativity and connections. As a coordinator, she expertly bridges the gap between the front and back of the house, ensuring seamless coordination and flawless execution. - Glenn CunninghamGeneral ManagerA native of the Capital District and longtime client of Total Events, Glenn joined the Total Events team in spring of 2019 as our general manager. Graduating from SUNY Cobleskill with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Glenn first started off in the food and beverage world with his own restaurant. Soon enough he found himself at the Holiday Inn Turf on Wolf road, where he spent over 20 years as a part of their senior management staff. After familiarizing himself with all facets of the hotel industry and culinary trade, Glenn became the Sales Director at Holiday Inn. Working with groups large and small, from weddings to conference and everything in between, Glenn was one of Total Events’ “regulars”. He developed industry connections all through the capital region hospitality industry and grew close partnerships with ESSAE, MPI (where he was named Volunteer of the year) and the Albany Colonie Regional Chamber. With his insight in the hospitality business he spent the last seven years as General Manager at the Holiday Inn, and the Homewood Suites as well as support to sister properties in a Regional capacity from Fishkill to Rochester . When Glenn isn’t at T.E. headquarters routing trucks and solving problems before they occur, in your backyard conducting a site inspection, working with our sales team to provide a dynamic proposal or out in the community at various networking opportunities you will likely find him on the golf course, eating fried green beans or spending quality time with his favorite people, his son’s Tyler and Logan.

beyond friendly and helpful. She took the time to answer a million calls/emails and really helped to put our minds at ease during the difficult planning stages. Our wedding was on a Friday, and Total Events also offered us an additional discount because the Saturday couple at the same venue was also using their services. The only complaint we had was that the chandeliers used cool-tone bulbs when we requested warm, bistro-style lights, so we ended up having to turn them off. Other than that, Total Events did an exceptional job and we absolutely recommend them!

Michelle was an absolute dream to work with. She was quick, knowledgeable about both the venue and their incredible inventory, and truly helped us bring our vision to life. From our Friday welcome party, to the reception, and even our after party - complete with a casino package (tables and dealers included!) that my family still can’t stop talking about.
When the forecast for our welcome party turned unexpectedly chilly, Michelle immediately jumped into action the morning of, tracking down the last remaining space heaters and getting them onto the delivery van just in time for setup. That level of responsiveness and care is what sets Total Events apart.
We were so lucky to have them as partners in our wedding weekend. If we ever host another event, there’s no question that Total Events is the team we’ll call first.

We hired Total Events to assist us in our supply needs for our wedding in Saratoga Springs in August. When first thinking about supplies we would need, like centerpieces and linens...
, we weren't sure how we could afford purchasing all the supplies ourselves and all the work that would be involved. Total Events made it easy to decide on renting materials instead, and to assist in picking items that would go with our venue (of which they had rented supplies to before). Knowing that they also supply the staff to set up and break down equipment was helpful, as I didn't want to pass off any of these tasks to friends or family- after a strenuous year with the pandemic, I wanted to make sure friends and family were spending time together rather than these tasks.
While some items and services can be a bit more than what I would want to pay, Total Events' work made the price worth it by taking on all aspects of providing, setting up, taking down, and storing the supplies. Their inventory shows a variety of looks as well and seem suitable for just about any type of event theme. We ended up utilizing Total Events for ceremony chairs, reception chairs, centerpieces, linens, kitchen supplies, guest reception supplies (like plates, flatware, glasses, etc.), centerpieces, and bar supplies. Sine our caterer has worked with Total Events before, the whole process was seamless and the day went very smoothly.
In all, we are thrilled with Total Events services, and would hire them again in a second. They took the stress out of the whole day and made sure that we had everything we needed from the start of the day until the send off. We highly recommend them for any wedding or big event in the area!

Although Total Events has beautiful chandeliers, lighted drapery etc, the customer service from the Director of Special Events (Megan) was horrendous! She was on her phone, stood w...
ith her arms crossed as if she had some other place to be AND told me that the caterer had to set the linens for me. When I asked if the caterer knew that her response was “I never told them.” The day before my wedding, I set the linens, and folded the napkins because according to Megan “that sounds like a great idea, have a good day,” and then hung up on me! Also, I don’t have pictures from my rehearsal dinner because I was so busy setting up our barn for the next day, I showed up in my ripped jeans, sweatshirt, messy bun and no makeup on because I had to decorate the barn! AND to top it off, while I was on my honeymoon, Megan sent me an invoice saying I owed them money for setting the linens. The lack of communication between vendor and new bride blew my mind! I would never recommend this company as no bride should have these worries the day before her big day.

She offered her own advice and suggestions that would improve the look of the venue. With regards to the cost of everything I wanted, Tommie really worked with me to distinguish between what I needed without going overboard! I really appreciated her honesty, diligence, thoughtfulness. She really made our day everything we wanted and more – She work alongside our wedding coordinator and communicated openly to set times to come in and put the venue together, as well as break it down in a timely manner. Tommie is terrific, tentative, prompt, reliable, and easy to talk to – communicating with her is like talking to a good friend except, Tommie is invested in making your wedding the most memorable, amazing day possible.

We rented the tent for the ceremony, wine barrels, tables cloths, chivari chairs for the reception, grand chairs for the sweetheart table, votive candle holders and they also installed ceiling swag in the reception area. The transformation of the ceremony and reception area was breathtaking. I can't thank this company enough for everything they did for my husband and I on our wedding day. You guys are the best!

The prices were very reasonable based on our research and we discussed how to select the decor items (lighting, chairs, drapery, etc.) that would give us the most bang for our buck ... we didn't want to sacrifice our vision, but wanted to keep things reasonable. to place their tables for the food. Luckily we had our own separate tents that we were able to set up for the caterer to use. The tent also had a hole in the roof. We got the tent just in case it rained so the hole in the roof was not good. Luckily it didn't rain the day of our wedding.
Set up and take down of the tent went smoothly.
