When we planned our Route 66 roadtrip from Chicago to LA, we decided to stay here because the Marriott points were low compared to staying in Flagstaff. This is not a Marriott property, but they’ve signed a long-term partnership with Trailborn....
The hotel was originally the Thunderbird and most recently a Red Roof Inn. It’s located in Williams, which is a super cute Route 66 town about a one-hour drive from the Grand Canyon south entrance. It’s the first hotel on your way into town and is located right next to the Canyon Adventure Park that has alpine coasters and other activities.
We were a little nervous based on the pictures online, but were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. The property is decorated with mid-Century and Western inspiration, with the room furniture and lamps, as well as the onsite restaurant and gathering room, fitting the vibe.
Onsite amenities include a pool and spa, outside game activities, the Camp Hall gathering room with shuffleboard and board games, and bike rentals. On the weekends there are other activities in Camp Ha like dancing and bingo, but we were there on a Monday night. There’s outdoor seating with a fire pit, and you can buy a s’mores kit if you’re interested.
You park right by your room motel style, and there are 4 Tesla charging stations available.
We didn’t dine in the restaurant but did order hush puppies and the chile apple pie to go. Both were delicious.
Only complaints are that the beds are a little soft and you can hear the train what feels like all night.

While Trailborn Grand Canyon is a renovated motel, the refurbishment has turned a 1950’s motel into something unique on Route 66. It is part of the Marriott Outdoor Collection and I felt very welcomed and they acknowledged my Bonvoy status at c...
heck in. Rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-designed, making it a great place to unwind after a day at the Grand Canyon.
The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about Williams and the Grand Canyon. Special shoutout to Tracy at the front desk with always a happy greeting and great conversations that we had during my stay. Free bike rentals, outdoor games, indoor “Camp Hall” with board games. Pool / hot tub was very nice after a long day. The lobby has snacks, beverages, and merchandise for purchase. $10 a day for Bonvoy members to be used on snacks / beverages or at the onsite restaurant, Miss Kitty’s.
Speaking of Miss Kitty’s Steak House, I had two wonderful meals there. The quality of the food was fantastic with the steaks coming from a local cattle ranch. Definitely stop by and grab a cocktail and chat with Sue the bartender who has been at Miss Kitty’s for over 30 years.
Set your expectations to a boutique motel and you will enjoy your time here. Seems far too many people coming expect a 4-5 star Marriott hotel and are disappointed.

So I was pleasantly surprised by the entire Trailborn experience! I booked this Trailborn location with Marriott points, even though it’s not a Marriott (Marriott is a partner). I stayed multiple nights both before and after a Havasupai trek.
...
I love Trailborn’s concept and business model - open locations in destinations with 1 millions+ visitors that are lacking in higher class lodging. Trailborn is not 5 stars but I don’t expect 5 stars in a tiny, historic Route 66 town. That said, there is SO MUCH attention to detail in this recently renovated historical hotel!!
The rooms are cosy, bathrooms clean and updated. The pool area and landscaping are extremely well-done. Even the pool furniture is above-average quality construction. Breakfast is average but if you don’t want the free breakfast, you can redeem a voucher at Miss Kitty’s for a discount. The food at Miss Kitty’s is excellent! The quality and creativity on the menu are not typical of a hotel, ESP something so remote as Williams, AZ. Even the paper in the fry basket matches branding elements from the menu. The decoration in Miss Kitty’s is western chic and it works.
The staff are friendly and helpful.
Overall - I love the quality of the experience, the attention to detail EVERYWHERE, and the price is very competitive. Excellent value for what you receive.

I did lots of research before myself, husband and two children stayed at this hotel . I love the modern western vibes . The room was nicely decorated with a retro/modern theme. There is a mini fridge and a blow dryer. The room did not have an i...
ron or steamer ( we had our own ) . Also there is no ice maker on the property. We would use the small travel cooler (that comes in the room) and have the staff fill it up in the lobby. The $10 breakfast is ok , but the staff working the breakfast was amazing!!! Sorry I forgot her name. We did enjoy the outside game area and pool . My family enjoyed our stay at trailborn Grand Canyon !

Our stay was great! This hotel is precious and embraces the Route 66 vibes and Grand Canyon atmosphere. This is an older MOTEL that has been updated to modern conveniences with keeping the vibes. There was a bit of a musty smell in our room, b...
ut not horrible. We opted to stay on the second level and there was most definitely a weak spot in the floor that creaked when we walked. The beds were comfortable enough and the extra touches like the radio, bag cooler and bikes you could borrow made this stay extra special. Not to mention the games in the camp hall and special events, wow! Williams is precious as a whole and we enjoyed every moment of our stay on our Route 66 road trip!
