There are not enough words to express how many times over we would recommend AJ and Jennie as wedding photographers. Throughout two years of planning (and a postponement) not only were they understanding and easy to work with, but so kind and thoughtful and like family taking your pictures on that day. My dad was unable to attend our wedding due to being in the hospital so we arranged a ceremony there, and without hesitation AJ and Jennie changed our day of schedule to accommodate a first look and pictures in the hospital chapel. I cannot stress enough how thoughtful they were with answers to many MANY questions throughout the entire process and how seamless and stress free our wedding pictures were due to their professionalism and support.

WOW!!!! We hired AJ & Jennie for our engagement & wedding photos. We were nervous about the fact that we’d have cameras following us around all day since we can get camera shy, but AJ & Jennie blended in so well it made us feel so incredibly comfortable. You barely even notice they’re there but at the same time are always in the action getting the BEST shots. 2 weeks later and I still have people telling me how amazing they were at the wedding. We were absolutely blown away by our pictures and got to relive the day all over again. Thank you guys again SO much!!! You both were truly a blessing. Like many other couples, our wedding day was rescheduled due to COVID and when our original photographer was unavailable, we were devastated. Little did we know that this was going to be our biggest blessing! AJ from Traverse the Tides is so talented, so genuine, and honestly just a fun person to be around. AJ and Jennie are wonderful, talented, and honest vendors who will have your back if anything unexpected arises. AJ hiked a mile uphill in the snow to take our beautiful January engagement photos. Him and Jennie were willing to make sure we were taken care of with no added stress when covid arrived in March and changed our wedding plans 3 times. These photographers have a ton of talent, a laid back and kind demeanor, will treat you as if you were their own friends or family, and they'll answer your many email questions within an hour. AJ and Jennie are the photographers of our dreams! We had such an amazing time working with them for our engagement shoot and on our wedding day. They made sure that we were comfortable in front of the camera and gave great tips to keep our photos looking natural and not overly posed - and we really appreciated the lack of cheesy poses we see so often in engagement and wedding photos! AJ & Jennie did a fantastic job photographing our wedding! From the very first phone call we could tell they would be very easy to work with. We exchanged a few calls and emails with them, and met in person a month or two ahead of the ceremony. On the day, they were great, keeping things moving but not making anyone feel rushed. Even the group shots were fun, which we didn't expect! They managed to get the whole shot list done ahead of the cocktail hour so we could be with our guests. The couple shots (which I was just a tiny bit worried would feel set-up or contrived) were great, and felt totally natural. We were delighted when we received the photos. Traverse the Tides (AJ & Jennie) as our photographers was probably one of the best decisions we made for our wedding day. From the moment I reached out to them to receive info to the big day , they were just a pleasure to work with. Our first look photos were so much fun to take and were our favorite part of the day. They made everything easy . AJ & Jennie were truly awesome. Capturing our day and all of its raw emotion perfectly. We loved the natural candid pictures and how easy it was to just let go and be our goofy selves. And of course, the pictures, gorgeous! Aj and Jennie are AWESOME! First, they are easy to work with, have amazing suggestions for photos, non pushy, yet can be more directive if you need them to and at the same time they can follow your lead if you prefer - a perfect balance and truly a great experience. I also love that they are the actual photographers and it's not a "company" where you are not sure who you're working with the day of your wedding. They did not disappear once, they were photographing the entire night - I never wondered where they were, yet they weren't obtrusive or in the way at all. AJ & Jennie (TTT) are AMAZING!!! My husband hates getting his photo taken and isn't exactly one to smile for the camera. Yet somehow AJ & Jennie were able to capture us perfectly. Their photos are more natural, candid and the style we were looking for. If you hate cheesy forced poses and uplighting as much as I do, TTT is a great choice! We got to know them during our engagement session, which helped ease our mind for the big wedding day. AJ & Jennie of Traverse the Tides are an amazing husband/wife photography team who truly went above and beyond throughout the entire process. My now husband and I found them online, reached out, quickly got a response and set up a phone call. AJ & Jennie spent the time to get to know us, our style, our personalities and our expectations/wants during the phone call and we mutually agreed that we would be a great fit together! My husband and I are both not into selfies or photos and are a bit on the shy side when it comes to that which made us a bit nervous we wouldn't get great photos because of that. Boy was I wrong. Our engagement shoot was at a beautiful antique garden and the results were amazing. AJ and Jennie have a way of catching the most AMAZING CANDIDS and nothing looks too posed. We had so much fun and laughed the entire shoot. Every smile captured was genuine. The lighting was amazing. They even sent us a little "guide" with info prior to the day. This same process followed on our wedding day. AJ & Jennie were punctual, professional, and hardworking. Jennie went above and beyond to help me out getting ready when I had no one else to give me a hand. My sister was still getting her makeup done and my mother was late so Jennie stepped right in to help me with my accessories and shoes. All while capturing some great shots! All of our wedding photos were STUNNING. The lighting, the little moments they captured, I can't say enough nice things. I recently went to another wedding and the photographers there were pushy and intrusive, often stepping in front of the guests the get their "shot" but not caring about the experience of the guests. I thought back to my wedding and realized I didn't even notice AJ and Jennie were there once the ceremony and reception started. They blended in seamlessly and captured SO MANY GREAT MOMENTS. Afterwards, they sent us all the photos within a few short weeks and then also changed a few of the B&W that I wanted to see in color. Every e-mail I sent was answered quickly and with a friendly tone. Highly recommend these 2 for any occasion you may need photographed!

AJ and Jennie were simply perfect. My wife and I knew they were the right photography team for us the first time we chatted via phone. We explained we were hoping for mostly candids rather than posed photos. They listened to us and were so easy to get along with. On our wedding day, We were already so comfortable with them both that most times we forgot they were there. They were so discreet but still managed to get the most amazing shots of the entire day. They captured moments of the event that we were not a part of that were so special for us to see and have proof of. We couldn't have asked for a better team of photographers than AJ and Jennie- not only were they kind, caring, patient (with all that goes on with planning and on the day of), and organized, but they were also so much fun to work with. From our first conversation, we were all on the same page with not taking cheesy/corny/posed photos; they captured our natural emotions and feelings on our wedding day. We were the first of our friends to get married and we really helped AJ and Jennie's guidance throughout to help us organize and capture the day in the way we wanted. On the day of the wedding, they made themselves comfortable and were super flexible in working around make-up delays and other family members butting into the shots, while also keeping on the timeline we requested and getting all the photos we wanted. We had a few family members that were pretty pushy in wanting their own photos, and we totally appreciated AJ and Jennie's professionalism and firmness in taking control and making sure they were really working toward our vision. AJ and Jennie had a super fast turnaround time for photos and we loved how organized the photos were. Having two photographers that work together SO well meant they coordinated well with each other; as a result we were able to have so many perspectives in our photos. Their expertise is definitely taking natural shots and we were fortunate in that our venue was outdoors with lots of shots in the woods. We also have some really awesome indoor pictures as well, so know that this team can really master both. Guys- our photos are INCREDIBLE!!!!

BEST PHOTOGRAPHERS EVER! When Dylan and I started looking for wedding photographers we were petrified of staged-cheesy-wistful photos, that would not capture the candidness of the day. Then we found Traverse the Tide and it was one of the best wedding decisions we made. We planned a wedding out of state so our first introduction was over the phone and we could tell immediately AJ & Jennie were a perfect fit. They were so easy to talk to and their portfolio was amazing; they were even kind enough to meet us for coffee prior to the wedding so we could discuss our ideas for the day. The day of the wedding, AJ & Jennie made picture taking so easy and so fun. They were professional and made us feel comfortable. When I was 17, I went to art school in Brooklyn for a semester majoring in photography. From that singular semester, I developed an entirely inappropriate, disproportionate sense of taste and selectivity (slight snobbishness?) that left me scowling at 99% of the portfolios of wedding photographers on Long Island. Our pictures are stunning, captured our wedding day perfectly, and really show the happiness and love of everyone involved in our big day. Let me save you A LOT of time, energy, long nights of researching and tell you this one piece of wedding advice…hire Traverse the Tides as your photographers RIGHT NOW! Hiring AJ & Jennie was hands down the best (and easiest) decision we made amongst the thousands of decisions we had to make for our wedding. From the initial call we had with them, we instantly connected and felt like we had known them our entire lives! I am a creative person and I was very particular about finding the perfect photographer to fit our personalities and style and AJ & Jennie went above and (way) beyond my expectations! They took all of our crazy ideas and ran with them (and even got excited about them)! From the first time we spoke, to our amazing sunrise beach engagement shoot (where they even joined in on sipping champagne at 7am!), down to every second of our wedding day together—AJ & Jennie were not only professional and so unbelievably talented, but also just a blast to be around! We would not change one thing! We had multiple people come up to us during the wedding and still to this day complimenting how personable our photographers were. AJ and Jennie went above and beyond to get to know my husband and I and make us feel as comfortable as possible in front of the camera. AJ and Jennie were such a delight to work with. I am somewhat uncomfortable in front of the camera, but they honestly made it so easy. We got to know them during our engagement photos, and after receiving them back, we knew we made the best choice for our wedding photographers. My husband and I knew that we wanted photos that were not very "formal and stuffy". We wanted our love for each other and our personalities to shine through. Jennie arrived at my house on the morning of the wedding and she took beautiful shots of me and my family getting ready. AJ went to the venue where my husband and his family were getting ready and scouted out all of the best areas to take our first look pictures and our portraits. We provided them with a list of must have photos and groupings and they really did their best to get everything that we asked for. I love that all of our photos are available online, and we can download and share them with anyone at any time. We first heard of Traverse the Tides from another photographer we were looking to book for our wedding. Unfortunately, she was booked for ours but recommended AJ & Jennie and promised we wouldn't be disappointed. Welp, she was right! Not only are they EXTREMELY talented, but they truly care about your input and vision for your day. My husband and I had been in a MILLION bridal parties before our own wedding, and we knew how important it is to get along with your photographers (HELLO! they spend ALL day with you!) The second I met AJ & Jennie, I knew that wouldn't be an issue. They make you feel like you have known them your whole life. I loved that we connected on Instagram and we were able to message each other, laugh at each other's posts, and share ideas for the big day. Our bridal party was so impressed that they NEVER nagged us and truly made it a fun experience when we had to pose for pictures. During the reception, we seriously didn't notice AJ or Jennie once. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! I cannot say enough good things about working with AJ & Jennie! From our first conversation with them we knew they were the photographers for us. They were super accommodating and response as we were planning our Long Island wedding from Virginia. Both AJ and Jennie have an amazing way of truly capturing the day from the laughs and smiles to the tears and dance moves all while making you feel so at ease and comfortable! Traverse the Tides (AJ and Jennie) are a professional, caring, empathetic, and talented duo who exceeded our high expectations for capturing our nontraditional wedding ceremony and reception. My wife, who is a marketing art director for a clothing line and has a plethora of experience with photo shoots and editing, spent days researching photographers and when she came across Traverse the Tides, it was love at first site. Luckily, they were available for the dates we needed them for. Due to Hurricane Maria, my wife’s parents were stuck in Puerto Rico and could not make our wedding reception. We postponed the ceremony, which took place aboard our sailboat underneath the Brooklyn Bridge, until her parents could finally make it the following day. Traverse the Tides could have rightfully charged more (they had to split the work into two days and commute back and forth twice) but never did, which is a testament to them just being good, caring human beings. AJ and Jennie never forced awkward moments upon us and artistically captured our natural moments of joy with each other and with friends and family. Their photo opportunity suggestions were gentle and on point and we fed off of their positive energy and optimism. Even before we signed a contract with them, they spent an hour on the phone with us to make sure that we were a good fit for each other. Traverse the Tides are definitely not your cookie cutter photography shop who goes through the motions; they are passionate about their work and care about the people they deal with. My husband and I cannot begin to describe what a pleasure it was to work with AJ and Jennie of Traverse the Tides for our engagement and wedding photos. Our dear friends had used them to shoot their wedding a few months prior, so we got to see them in action prior to our own wedding. Throughout all our experiences with AJ and Jennie, they were commanding but cool, relaxed, professional and both have a great sense of humor to make their clients feel comfortable. AJ and his wife Jennie are awesome! Their style of photography is exactly what we were looking for (more editorial). They did our engagement photos and wedding photos and we had so many "usable" shots we were overwhelmed with choices which is a great place to be in! They are super friendly and have a way of setting you at ease--giving just enough direction so that you feel comfortable in your own skin; the makings of a great photo! They work well off of each other and were barely noticeable during our ceremony and reception, but still managed to capture so many wonderful pics! AJ and Jennie have great, easy-going personalities to boot! They were a fantastic addition to our day and were a pleasure to work with!

The experience was wonderful! From the beginning, AJ and Jennie worked with me and my now husband to curate an experience and investment that worked for us. They were willing to be flexible with us in creating a timeline as well, which was great! The quality of the pictures were amazing. So many beautiful and unconventional shots that really captured our day and our personalities. The results were certainly worth it. They were hands down one of the easiest and most positive vendors we worked with the entirety of wedding planning. If I have any friends getting married in the area, I am certainly recommending them.

From the minute I spoke to AJ on the phone I knew he was the right fit for my wedding -- all about capturing meaningful moments instead of forced / posed portraits. He understood what I was going for and clearly communicated his philosophy and style to me. Also, his portfolio speaks for itself. Every step of the way in my planning AJ was responsive and helpful and an absolute pleasure to work with. He was on time, organized, and flexible with us on the day of the wedding. I never imagined we'd feel so comfortable being photographed but AJ made it easy and fun. I can't say enough about him and his work, I highly recommend him as a responsible and awesome person to work with and an amazingly talented photographer.

In planning our wedding, I knew that the photographer would be one of the most important decisions we made--the pictures are what would we have long after the day was over. I met with several photographers and upon meeting AJ and Jennie, I knew immediately that they were the right fit for us. I am type A with many questions and my husband is very laid back and calm-AJ and Jennie saw this right away. They "got" us as a couple and made us both feel comfortable and worry free. We had a small, intimate wedding of 50 people and the photos from our wedding day so accurately reflect the vibe, feeling and memories of the day. Our photos are STUNNING and anyone who has seen them has raved; our candid shots are amazing, our posed pictures are gorgeous. The pictures were literally everything we could have hoped for-organic, natural and real. In a dream world, AJ and Jennie would be my personal photographers for all life events no matter how small. I found these two gems when google image searching my venue. I immediately loved their work, specifically the lighting in the photos. I really wanted to avoid bright cheesy wedding pictures. I wanted something different and modern. I reached out to a few companies just for good measure and I thought the pricing Traverse the Tides offered was very reasonable. Whenever I would reach out to AJ with a neurotic question he politely answered immediately. Which let me tell you, when your working full time, in grad school and planning a wedding - its fills your heart and eases the anxiety. My husband and I met AJ and Jennie for the first time for our engagement photos, which were intimidating at first but they were so amazing and friendly- really confirmed our decision to go with them. They were also so calm and accommodating on the big day which was so helpful/necessary. AJ had me fill out a questionnaire prior to the big day so they were organized and prepared. Our wedding reception was a crazy party (understatement) and AJ and Jennie captured it ALL! From the beautiful pictures at the church to the dramatic dance moves and everything in between - our pictures were THE BEST!!! They also compiled a BEAUTIFUL leather bound book that we will cherish forever. I highly recommend them to everyone and anyone and hope to work with them again !!!

Wow, just wow. My husband and I are SO THANKFUL we found AJ! We knew we liked him from the moment we met him. He and his wife Jenny shot our engagement photos and our wedding and made us feel like complete models. They were so easy to shoot with and made us feel very comfortable in front of the camera-something we were a bit shy about. When we received our engagement pictures we were totally blown away. I've never felt so beautiful in my entire life, plus he perfectly captured the essence of my husband and I. As far as shooting the wedding, it was the HOTTEST day of the year, and AJ was more than willing to run all over our venue to capture the most perfect pictures. My brother-in-law has severe special needs and can be tough to photograph, but AJ managed to get some wonderful shots with him, and gave us some very precious family photos. We shot at several locations and AJ was great at shooting both posed shots as well as candid shots (which were our favorites). I cannot recommend him enough. Shooting with him and his wife was a complete dream and I would do it all again if I could! WE LOVE YOU AJ!!

AJ and Jennie gave us everything we wanted in a wedding photographer and more. In a long planning process, filled with many difficult decisions, choosing to work with AJ was by far the easiest one to make. His photos are undeniably amazing. His galleries really do speak for themselves. He is so talented at capturing moments that can be either beautiful and emotional or candid and fun. He really knows how to capture all of the essential parts of a wedding, while still finding a way to make your photos feel unique and special. They were both so great to work with. From the lead up, right through the big day, AJ and Jennie were professional, informative, and easy to work with. We told them that it was like working with two of our friends. They were able to give us direction and guide us through process, while still making the day feel casual and cozy. AJ’s excitement and passion was a huge boost of energy throughout the long day. He knows how to get the shots you want and give you the freedom to just be yourselves. All the little things that you inevitably worry about with a vendor, AJ and Jennie put them all to rest. They captured each moment and detail that we wanted, in a way that made the photos just as incredible as the real thing. We cannot recommend them highly enough and we hope to work with them again soon.

AJ and Jennie captured our wedding in the best way. They are both amazing photographers and had the uncanny ability of catching all of our family and friends having the Best Time Ever at our wedding, over and over again. AJ really delivered when we expressed our desire to keep the formal portraits to a minimum and focus on the candid moments. They braved the rain and cold with us to get some truly unbelievable shots, and they were patient and creative when we insisted on getting both sides of our massive extended families all together for one big group shot (I don't recommend trying this if you value your sanity but AJ was all over it, and it came out perfectly). AJ is one of the most responsive vendors I've ever worked with-- he answered emails day or night within a couple of hours and proactively reached out to us at the various milestones leading up to the wedding. I look forward to booking AJ and Jennie for all of my future weddings!! (just kidding, Mike).

I was drawn immediately to AJ and Jennie's photos on their website. They have this incredible ability to capture a candid moment where you are able to feel the emotion from the photograph. The use of color and black and white is so tastefully done that it was a no brainer to book them for our wedding. Everything from the planning and time line to the day of was so easy with them. They were always coming up with creative ideas for photographs, and were helpful giving us tips and telling us what to do while letting us know what we were doing was working. Everytime I look at my wedding photos I am put back into that moment they were taken and can feel everything about it - that is what great photography is. It's hard to choose which images to photograph because I love them all.

Simply put, AJ was phenomenal. As a photographer, he approaches the wedding with a signature narrative style. All of his photos appear candid and unforced. He did an amazing job working with lighting, composition and setting-in particularly with our portraits. He has a great eye, and I would say his approach is progressive and contemporary. In terms of deliverables, he goes above and beyond. Our package included 3 hours of his time, along with a full online gallery containing every single photo with post-production work at low, medium, high and original resolutions. Every photo is downloadable and the gallery link can be easily shared with anyone you wish to do so with. The post-production on the photos are spectacular, and he doesn't leave a single photo untouched with enhancements. Within 3 weeks of our wedding, we received the entire online gallery, and were blown away with how quick he completed the post-production work. Granted, we had a very intimate ceremony and assumedly didn't have as many photos taken as a typically larger event. But nevertheless, AJ was always prompt with his responses as we periodically checked in with him. He even released a few "teaser" images to us the first few days after the wedding. We thought that was a great touch. During the entire event, he was always in the right place at the right time, and we never once felt like he was in the way. In terms of who he is as a person, we felt as if we made a new friend. He arrived earlier and stayed later than our contract stated, just so he could capture moments outside of our agreed upon time frame. He likes to engage the couple and ask them to try different things when taking photos, and isn't afraid to try new things (so long as the couple is obliged to do so). There is a tangible warmness about him, and you can tell that his passion for photography goes beyond simply documenting an event. He really has a passion for documenting the love of two people and this couldn't have been made any more clear based on how he interacted with us on our wedding day. Bottom line, you will not be disappointed if you go with AJ. I would count anyone lucky to have him shoot their wedding.
