About this vendor
The Two-Mile House was built in the 1820s by James Given in the Federal Style. It served as a tavern from 1826 to 1857, hosting many a weary traveler. After its life as a tavern, the property became a private residence. The last owners Joseph and Mary King bequeathed the house to the Cumberland County Historical Society, who today administer the property. The King’s loved to entertain and in their memory the property is available to rent for parties, business meetings, weddings, and receptions.
The property has 5 ½ acres of land which includes meadows, mature trees, parking area, and several outbuildings including our corn crib, a “coop” (think he/she shed), grape arbor, and two outdoor patios one of which is tented. We are adding a gazebo in 2026 as well.
Inside the house, we have our kitchen which is complete with two ovens, a stove top, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, dishes, glassware, and flatware. We also have a deep chest freezer in our basement for you to use.
The house also has two dining rooms, two parlors, two powder rooms, a terrace room, and two dressing rooms on the second floor.
We include in our rentals 165 folding chairs, five 60-inch round tables, four 48-inch round tables, ten 6-foot-long rectangle tables, six card tables, and seven bistro/pub tables.
As we do not provide food, we do not restrict you in regards to caterers. We also do not restrict who you use for flowers, DJ, rental companies, etc. I am always happy to give you a list or help with these items, but we do not restrict you to who you want to use. It is your day!
We rent the property a few different ways based on your needs, hourly or daily. This property can be rented from 1-3 days for your event or a minimum of 4 hours. For this cost, we do not set up or clean up tables/ chairs/ trash etc. We are happy to do that for you at an additional cost.

As a florist, I love designing at Two Mile House for several reasons. First, Sharon, the venue coordinator, clearly loves this historic home as her own and is incredibly sweet and...
helpful to potential clients. Second, the property features various ceremony backdrops fit for floral installation magic : a massive walnut tree, woodland grove, garden arbor, or historic corn crib. Third, your vendors and guests will love the easy access, ample parking, and close proximity to hotels, the highway, and historic downtown Carlisle.
Booking your wedding at Two Mile House is an excellent choice!
We got married here on 10/4 and it was so nice! The grounds are beautifully kept and the property was everything we were looking for at a fraction of the price of some other venues...
. Sharon was also amazing! She was so helpful and made me less stressed when our caterer didn’t show up on time. 10/10 recommend!!
Two Mile House was the absolute best place for our wedding. Extremely affordable and so beautiful, with tons of options for where the ceremony would be held along with where the re...
ception could be. Sharon was amazing to work with. The house was perfect for our rehearsal dinner, and getting ready and just being our home away from home for the whole weekend. It was perfect.
I'm surprised there aren't more reviews for this place. Two Mile House is a beautiful historic house in Carlisle. Since it's a historical building owned by the Cumberland County Hi...
storical Society, renting it costs a fraction of what other venues charge. We had initially picked Moonstone Manor but it was, no lie, 5 times the price of TMH and didn't include nearly as much. The rental cost of TMH includes full use of the house and grounds and one small tent with lights. TMH also has plates, silverware, glasses, vases, servingware, tables, chairs, signs, etc. that you can use for free! Using items from their inventory helped us save tons of money on rentals. There are two getting-ready rooms upstairs and a bathroom attached to one of them, which was super helpful. You can have your ceremony anywhere on the property. There are several beautiful spots to choose from and there is plenty of room to put a tent if you want one. The photography opportunities on the property are stunning! We traipsed all over with our photographer and got gorgeous photos literally everywhere. Plus, Sharon, the event coordinator, is THE BEST. She immediately makes you feel like you've been friends for years. She was so nice, funny, accommodating, and helpful. We couldn't have done this without her help! We got so many compliments on our choice of venue. We wanted an outdoor garden wedding and we really couldn't have found a better spot. I highly, highly recommend renting TMH for any future events!
