About this vendor
Unbox the Dress is a company based in Winston-Salem, NC, that creates new designs out of wedding gowns. This team can handcraft robes, veils, accessories, and other pieces from a dress, ensuring it can be loved for years to come. Unbox the Dress was established by Grace Rojek, who sought to preserve a collection of wedding gowns. Grace discovered the dresses at her grandmother’s house and wanted to ensure her family could cherish them rather than store them. She and her mother, Lorraine, then founded the business to help others preserve their wedding gowns in a meaningful way.

They offer a wide selection of styles including bouquet wraps, cake table skirts, handkerchiefs, pocket squares, veils, and more. You can choose your designs, mail your garment, and their team will curate pieces that will give a second life to your dress.

I cannot express how grateful I am for Unbox the Dress for transforming my mom’s wedding dress into a stunning second dress for my own wedding! From the start, they were a pleasure...
to work with, and their creativity and skill truly brought my vision to life.
While there was a slight delay due to flooding in North Carolina that affected communication, the team handled everything with professionalism and care. Despite the challenges, they turned my mom’s dress into my dream gown, and it was worth the wait!
My mom was understandably nervous about sending her beloved dress off to be altered, especially knowing it would be cut into pieces. However, the look on her face when she saw me in it was absolutely priceless! It was a heartfelt moment I will cherish forever.
At the wedding, I received countless compliments on the dress. When I shared that it was my mom’s original gown, people were even more impressed! Unbox the Dress did an incredible job preserving the integrity of the back of her dress, which was such a statement piece from her wedding.
I wholeheartedly recommend Unbox the Dress to anyone looking to repurpose a cherished gown. They turned a sentimental piece into a beautiful creation that made my wedding day even more special. Thank you for everything!
I was told the timeline was 15-17 weeks. I had to contact them at the 17th week mark and ask. They moved it up so I got it in two weeks. I ask them not to get in a hurry. I was as...
sured it was not a rush order they just swapped it around. I was so disappointed in what I received! The total cost was around
$900. I received garbage. The design is ugly. The veil is very short. I have emailed them and ask for my remnants and to this date have yet to hear back. I think I am being ghosted. Do not use them!!!
The designer hardly asked any questions during consultation, I spent a lot of money for them to make the pieces out of my wedding dress. They butchered it to the high heaven’s. It ...
was not handled with care. I do not have unreasonable expectations, I was expecting elegant and I got a piece that was thrown together with hardly any intention.
Unbox the Dress created one of the most meaningful parts of my entire wedding day. My mom surprised me with a custom getting-ready outfit made from her original wedding gown, and i...
t was beyond beautiful.
Seeing her dress re-imagined into something I could wear on my own wedding day was so incredibly special. It felt like such a powerful way to honor her while also creating something new and uniquely mine. Getting ready in that piece is a memory I will cherish forever.
The craftsmanship was stunning, and the attention to detail was truly impressive. You could tell how much care went into preserving the sentimental value of the original gown while transforming it into something modern and wearable.
I cannot recommend Unbox the Dress enough. If you’re looking for a meaningful way to carry family history into your wedding day, this is something you will treasure for a lifetime.
I sent them my measurements in April. Was assured my dress would be ready by August. They delayed it over a month and the dress was huge and the details were not what we agreed on,...
looked similar to a first communion dress. They told me to have it pinned and sent back to fix, I argued saying it wouldn’t be back in time. They did pay for the alterations, but the dress still was not what I want and looks very little girlish.
DO NOT TRUST THEM! The consultation seemed to go well and I thought the designer knew what I was wanting. I ordered a rehearsal dinner dress, my veil, and several other heirlooms. ...
I had to send TWO pages of measurements…explain to me how the dress still didn’t fit right? Too big in the chest and waist and too tight around the neck. For a dress costing over $600 I would think they would get it right! I didn’t get my items until FIVE days before my event (I ordered early February, rehearsal dinner June 6th). Now I can’t wear this dress made from my mom and grandma’s own and have to scramble to find another dress. Do NOT trust them with such precious items, I’m left heartbroken over such an expensive mistake.
The planning and design process seemed to go smoothly, I felt like my designer understood my wishes and I was excited to see the finished product. My dress had two pieces, the main...
body and a cathedral length train. There was lots of appliqué and even though is had been professionally cleaned and preserved, some of the appliqué on the train had yellowed. I was specific in my instructions to use fabric from the main body, that did not have the yellowed appliqué. The finished product was made entirely of the train, including yellowed appliqué. They used only 3 buttons from the main body. They did offer to rework the robe, however I was out of time, and was not really inclined to send everything back again. Please be careful with your precious dress.
Engaged 12/2022, married 2/3/23. I used my late MIL gown for my “get ready robe”, my husbands pocket square, and a Christmas ornament. It was quite pricey, but seemingly well worth...
it. I knowingly paid the subscription as we became expecting of twins in 2023. I requested the small “lovies” (mini baby blankets) to be made, one for each baby. This was again, pricey. I also requested my subscription ended. This was in April of 2024. I asked for the delivery to before our twins baptism in late June of 2024. I received a message saying I would get our delivery in early to late July of 2024. In July of 2024 I received a $50 charge for a dress box (which I didn’t need). Immediately it was refunded, but I was in the middle of getting approved for a MORTGAGE LOAN. I quickly emailed my confusion and frustration. This was met with a seemingly rewritten response. No apology. Finally, on AUGUST 23, 2024, I recieved my final delivery of two “lovies” and the scraps of my late MILs gown. After nearly $1200, I expected better, an apology, and more timeliness.
For some odd (hahaha) reason our daughter didn't want to wear my 1982 wedding dress. (She's slim and sexy and I was a buxom flower child.) But Unbox the Dress made parts of my dr...
ess into the cutest getting ready robe. And my daughter was thrilled when I gave it to her at the shower. "Something old..." The best part is there is plenty left for our other daughter and son for the future. PLUS after our daughter's wedding, I sent them HER dress to clean (and restore a bit - it was a great wedding!) and store until she's ready for her daughter's weddings. All in all a brilliant service.
I sent my dress in to be converted into several heirlooms. They were very late in sending the products back and when I received them they did not use any of the main material of my...
dress. The products were entirely lace and silk while my dress was mostly chiffon. I complained and they were willing to redo the items to include the chiffon however, what I was then given had scratches and tears all over it. Given I spent a LOT of $ on these products and destroyed my dress for them…. I am incredibly upset. They should have sent sketches of the design and included me in the process of making the dress. I cannot believe what they have done. Do not risk sending items to them.
I had my moms wedding dress recycled by this company before the big day, after both my sister and I tried it on and wished to pass on wearing it for our special day. I highly recom...

e was made from my Mom's wedding dress, except the sheer sleeves but they put the lace on the end of them. It was so special and I cannot thank the team enough for helping design this special piece that I will forever be grateful for!

When I was a little girl I loved everything about my mothers wedding. I really wanted to incorporate something from hers into mine. I had Grace redesign my mothers veil into a more...
modern look. It brought tears to my eyes and made everything seem so real seeing it transformed into mine our "ours". Thank you for making this experience so fun Grace.
Our daughter is having a winter wedding so I thought that old 1981 dress would make a lovely wedding cape. I just got it back, and it is even lovelier in person. They did a great ...
