My wedding planner suggested I block a room in a hotel near Universal Studios as most of my guests were from out of town. I initially thought this was a good idea so I went online and saw that the hotel was fairly new and had good reviews.
Blocking the rooms was very easy, they offered to block 10 rooms for free until 1 month prior to the wedding. However they were not flexible if I wanted to add a day before or after the range that I blocked. So some of the guests had to pay 199$ vs 99$ for one or two nights, others had to look for another hotel to stay in that was cheaper.
When my guests started to arrive, the hotel staff told each one of them that they could not find the name they had reserved under. The staff there were so amateur I was very dissatisfied with the service!!! They mixed up a reservation and put 6 people in a room with 2 queen beds, so when they arrived tired from a long trip from Japan, half of them didn't have a room to stay in. Luckily there was one available, but it could have been a disaster otherwise! I was on panic mode all night as I received calls from family and friends telling me they were unable to check in!
They also tried to charge one of the girls from the wedding party the price of 2 room stays, about 500$ off the bat for no reason and had to try to understand what was going on for 30 minutes of explanation from the check in girl who was obviously new!
The valet parking was packed and took forever to get a hold of the vehicle. Expect at least a 30 minute wait to get your car.
The only food options inside the hotel are their food court and expensive convenience store, 5$ for a bottle of water. If you needed anything outside of the premises you needed to get to your car, wait for an extra 30 minutes and drive out for a while.
My family was not impressed, and told me it was probably meant for carefree people who didn't care about anything other than visiting the parks.
I would never recommend this hotel for anything related to weddings.
We stayed at Loews Cabana Bay Resort, one of the Universal Studios resorts. It's currently the newest resort and is apparently supposed to be the "economy" resort in the Loews line but this place was anything but economy-feeling. It's completely outfitted in a late 50s early 60s feel-- we're talking down to the packaging on the soaps and shampoos-- and it's magical. Feels like you've stepped into that time. There's a cafeteria on the main floor that has food available from early morning till late night, there are two pools, a bowling alley, and the whole place is just gorgeous. We loved it and were treated so well by everyone there. Would definitely recommend to anyone!
