Coordinator is pretty difficult to work with at times. Allowing us to have 4 hours of set up and then tells me the week of my wedding we only have 1 hour to clean up.... Seems like that would have been a big detail to tell someone earlier than 1 week before the big day. Wouldn't allow me to add an extra table so my reserved tables didn't have to sit 10 each as my grandfather is in a wheelchair and 10 is crowded. Wouldn't ask her staff to come in 30 min early for my DJ to set up his equipment/up lights and then wanted to charge me $75 to add this time on my wedding day. Told me it was a "waste of time in my opinion" to extend my reception from 11 pm to 12 pm. Frequently has pretentious attitude regarding wedding planning and is very controlling when it comes to your wedding details. Truly acts like she does not enjoy her job and makes planning very difficult. If you want to argue, beg and barter your way into having your wedding the way you want it then have your reception here. I would suggest alumni go somewhere else. They find a way to take the discount back.
My husband and I booked the Grand Ballroom at the Northbank Center for our ceremony. We had a few hiccups early on with the coordinator retiring and trying to find out who was in charge then. But after that was all settled everything was great. I attend U of M so I did get a discount, but I just loved how the ballroom looked. Couldn't be happier!
My fiancé and I were very pleased with the Northbank Center for our July wedding..
I recommend this location for any bride that likes a vintage look. It's directly adjacent the Durant Hotel in downtown Flint. If you call ahead, the Durant may let you take pictures in the beautiful art deco lobby.
The staff provided by the UM-Flint were friendly and very helpful. Their organizers really try to accommodate your needs.
Unfortunately, you must use the University catering; however, their food is very tasty!
I used the Northbank Center as my reception venue and things went very well! I am a student at UM-Flint so I got a discount on the hall rental. We had a served dinner rather than a buffet and the food was very good - and VERY reasonably priced! The ballroom seats up to 300 people - but keep in mind that this is not leaving room for a dance floor. I had about 280 and it was still a nice fit, with room for the dance floor. Serving staff was very nice! Since this is on a University campus, they do not have a liquor license and it's the renter's responsibility to deal with all that.. However, we did not have alcohol so it wasn't a problem! My only complaint is that since we didn't have alcohol, we had to have a separate table for soda and the servers would not serve it. They were set up in nice canisters on a table so it wasn't an eyesore, but it would have been nice to get pop served with dinner! This is certainly a gem in the Flint area and a great place to hold your reception :)
