About this vendor
The Historical Society of Princeton’s Updike Farmstead is six acres of beautiful, lush property, including a barn and farmhouse in the heart of the Princeton Battlefield/Stony Brook Settlement Historic District. This unique, unparalleled location, surrounded by preserved farmland, is the perfect setting for weddings and events. Updike Farmstead has has become a destination-style venue within Princeton for those looking to create the wedding of their dreams.
The barn at Updike Farmstead is more than 125 years old and rich with history.
Originally constructed in 1892, the large historic barn has been renovated to be a premier event space. With beautiful vaulted uplit rafters, and original hemlock beams dating from the early 1500’s, the barn represents the incredible craftsmanship of the American barn style. Large double barn doors open out onto a spacious private courtyard facing a sweep of cultivated farmland. An adjacent original sliding barn door opens to the front of the property, facing rustic outbuildings, a windmill, and a large lawn perfect for cocktail hour and yard games. The barn blends classic rustic charm with modern amenities which include four unisex bathrooms, a small kitchen, custom lighting and wi-fi. The barn is ideal for parties of 125 or fewer, but with additional tenting, we can accommodate up to 200 guests.

We held our wedding at Updike Farmstead this past October and could not have been happier with the venue choice. The setting is so beautiful there, from the restored barn and farmhouse to the surrounding greenery and wheat/corn fields. Leanne was our event coordinator and was amazing to work with leading up to the big day - always responsive and helpful. We pushed our wedding date twice thanks to COVID but Leanne and the Historical Society made the shifts easy and stress free. On the wedding weekend itself, Izzy, the Historical Society's Executive Director, was our outstanding go-to who went above and beyond to help our event run smoothly. All in all, it was a magical day and we could not have imagined doing it anywhere else.
Perfect Barn Wedding Venue
Updike Farmstead provided a spectacular setting for our daughter's rustic wedding just minutes from Princeton. The event coordinator, Leanne, was accommodating and provided recommendations for vendors who helped us create our dream wedding. All our guests raved about the barn and the outdoor space. Cocktails outside amid the outbuildings and windmill, dinner in the beautifully transformed barn and dancing under a tent out the back doors - perfect!!
It was a true pleasure working with Leanne to plan our wedding at Updike Farmstead! She is professional, responsive, reasonable, and forthcoming. While we ended up having to change wedding plans due to the current health climate, we would recommend Updike Farmstead to anyone looking for a beautiful space to host their wedding or celebration.
We recently hosted our daughter’s wedding and reception at Updike Farmstead. It was an incredible experience starting from our first visit all the way through to the wedding day and reception. First, it is an absolutely beautiful location. The farm grounds are lovely and the small barn provided a simple, but elegant, backdrop for the outdoor ceremony. The refurbished large barn was the perfect venue for the reception. There is a dressing room in the farmhouse which the bride used before the ceremony.
The barn’s inside lighting was perfect and the exterior lights on the paths to the parking lot made for an easy walk at the end of the night. There are ample, individual, restrooms in the barn which are large and very clean. The bride even used one to change into her second (dancing) outfit for the evening.
The Events Coordinator, Leanne, provided guidance and extremely helpful advice each step of the way. She shared suggested vendors, photographs of possible ways to take full advantage of the property, and was always available for questions. She made herself available whenever I asked for help, changing her own personal schedule to accommodate mine. Leanne was present for the rehearsal and wedding day to ensure that all went well. She went above and beyond in making certain every detail was exactly as we hoped. I saw her checking in with the caterer and others several times. It was very reassuring during those last nervous moments before the ceremony.
I can’t say enough about our experience with Leanne and with Updike Farmstead. Our daughter claims it was even better than she could ever have imagined and was exactly the wedding day she hoped to have.
I noticed a comment about the cost of reserving Updike and would like to add my opinion, simply as my own opinion...While I agree that the rental fee was slightly higher than some venues we considered, once we tallied the total expense of rentals, flowers, DJ and other vendors, the total cost was equal to or less than the total package cost of some locations we considered. In addition, we didn’t have to take a cookie cutter package. Every detail was individual and what the bride wanted. Leanne shared the bride’s vision and the Farmstead was the perfect backdrop.
We were also incredibly fortunate with every vendor associated with making the day perfect. As I noted above, we used many of Leanne’s recommendations. As a result, I also highly recommend Samantha at Emily’s Cafe (Caterer), Jaye Kogut (Photographer), Barbara H of Flower Shop of Pennington Market, Aaron of 13th Street Cocktails, Adam’s Rentals, and Tina B at DJ’s Available Sound and Light Entertainment.
I was fully prepared to be underwhelmed with some aspect of the day. I was not. Not even close. Everything was perfect.
If you want a beautiful location and to work with an incredibly knowledgeable and personable coordinator, Updike is ideal!
The venue was beautiful and everyone complimented this throughout the day! The real benefit is getting it for the whole day and not having to worry about other people being on site. We even set up the day before the wedding. Perfect for anyone looking for a barn wedding in the NJ/PA area!
Very nice and responsive people. Really was a beautiful blank canvas for making my wedding dreams come true. Price is a bit high though considering you only get use of the property.
