Staff, particularly Michelle, is praised for their communication and assistance throughout the planning process and on the wedding day, despite the venue requiring couples to resource their own vendors. Getting married at Valhalla was an absolute fairy tale! We got married in August 2024 and had our ceremony outside, facing the lake. The venue was perfect for a hot, sunny afternoon and the view of the bright blue lake in between the tall trees was so gorgeous. Our guests loved how relaxed the environment was, not to mention the incredible sunset views and photo opportunities on the dock and beach! We had our bartenders use the wine barrel bar on the porch and provided all of our appetizers and dessert on the porch. The setup was perfect. Valhalla had a lot of beautiful additional offerings like antique furniture, string lights, log stumps and other fun décor. We ended the night dancing in the grand hall then took off via boat for our grand exit off the dock. 10/10 experience, highly recommend for other couples!

This venue is so gorgeous, I loved having the option of indoor/outdoor in case we needed it! Every aspect of working with this venue was super easy.
The client portal is easy to navigate and gives a lot of recommended vendors that they’ve worked with before. The guy who did our initial walk through helped us vision all of the different options and Meg was super helpful leading up to the wedding. They even let us do an additional walk through so my mom could see the space.

Valhalla is a wonderful venue! The location is gorgeous! We loved the rustic yet elegant vibe and the surrounding forest and lake! It is truly a gem. Valhalla’s team was wonderful to work with as well. Their communication was great and very timely. Their client portal made it very easy to ask questions and have access to the resources we needed. They made sure to provide all sorts of planning brochures as we organized the details of the wedding. We appreciated the hard work their team put into setting up for our special day. Our wedding was absolutely beautiful! We are happy we chose Valhalla as our venue!

Everything about the venue was magical! We had an unexpected snow storm for our May wedding but the venue worked with my wedding planner to flip to an indoor wedding the day before! Thank you to the team at Valhalla for making sure our day was beautiful. We even saw the resident bear on our wedding day!

We had just the ceremony portion of our wedding here and the staff was wonderful to work with. They quickly responded to all of our questions and the venue itself was absolutely beautiful. We had our wedding in front of the fireplace in the grand hall and did all of our photos right outside with the beautiful lake view. Our wedding guests all said it was the best wedding they’ve been to! I highly recommend them.

Thank you to Valhalla Tahoe. Gorgeous venue, magical ambiance - rustic, elegant, killer views!! The perfect setting for our wedding. Only reason I didn't give the venue 5 stars is because our main contact Michelle was fairly unresponsive and difficult to communicate with (she's no longer there), but everyone else on staff was friendly, super helpful and flexible - especially Stefanie and Ryan. Had a great experience and incredible wedding in all respects!

We had the most magical time at Valhalla. They were great with communication along the way and let us stop by as we live in the area when we wanted to. The only downside is you have to be finished by 10 pm because of noise but other than that, it was the absolute perfect venue for our friends and family on the best day of our lives. We did the ceremony inside, drinks and dinner outside, and dancing and dessert back inside. The weather held up for us and it was a perfect day. Thank you, Valhalla!

Valhalla is a true gem of South Lake Tahoe. We had 6 venue tours scheduled to go look at and Valhalla was our 3rd one. After we visited Valhalla, we instantly knew this was the place we would say 'I Do!' It had everything we could have asked for: an old vintage historic hall, tall redwoods, and right on the lake with a boathouse theatre and pier! Our guests said our wedding was a true fairytale and the coordinators at Valhalla are very helpful to understand what the requirements are and restrictions since it is on State Park land. They walk you through the process in your own wedding portal. FYI - this is not an all inclusive venue - you must resource out your own vendors and it is required to have a coordinator. When you tell people you're getting married at Valhalla, everyone GASPS!!! Ahhh that place is so beautiful and it is right next door to Camp Richardson where your guests can book campsites, cabins, RV sites, or in the historic hotel which some of our guests did. Book this place if it is your vibe, you won't regret it!

This venue is stunning on its own, but the incredible staff that worked so hard to keep this building so breathtaking are just as incredible. Our winter wonderland dream wedding was able to come true because of this amazing venue and team.

Valhalla is a truly magical place and a dream come true as a wedding venue. Words can’t describe the beauty and overall romantic atmosphere. Michelle was incredible with her communication and assistance, and it was so lovely to meet her in person at our rehearsal (which I strongly recommend adding).
This was a destination wedding for us and I kid you not, I started crying when I saw it at the rehearsal and felt how lucky we were to be getting married in such a beautiful place with amazing history. We received endless compliments from our guests. There was a fire the day of the wedding and despite the less-than-ideal smoke filled hair, people still told us it was the most beautiful wedding they’d ever been to and we still felt so overjoyed to be there.
I will say, it can be a bit stressful doing all the work yourself to find all the vendors and coordinate everything (if you don’t have a wedding planner, which we didn’t) compared to an all-inclusive venue, but Michelle is happy to make recommendations and it all felt worth it in the end. Thank you, Michelle, Leandra, & Valhalla staff!

My husband and I chose the Valhalla as the venue for the September wedding. From the first moment we visited, we were both in love with the cabin and grounds of the Valhalla and how close to the water it was. On our first visit, the Valhalla staffed worked with us despite a timing mix up on my end so we could still tour the venue. Michelle and the Valhalla staff helped to answer any questions we had leading up to our wedding day. Our family and guests were all amazed at the venue and its beauty - the view from the dock alone kept guests entertained pre-ceremony and during cocktail hour and everyone had nothing but great things to say about the venue. The location will forever be special to my husband and I. We couldn't recommend the Valhalla more to anyone looking to get married at Tahoe!
Thanks again Michelle and Valhalla!

Everyone was in awe of how beautiful Valhalla was- both inside and out. Our ceremony and reception were absolutely stunning and our guests had such a great time. I love that you have trees and then the beach with the dock so guests can really go explore the beauty of South Lake Tahoe. We cannot wait to get our pictures back!

Valhalla was the perfect setting for our wedding! The lake in the background, the towering trees and green grass, the classic lakeside lodge all made for a magical venue. Michelle, the contact at Valhalla, was incredible. She responded quickly to all our questions and was always able to answer them with accurate information. The day of the wedding she was very accommodating and helpful from start to finish. This was a dream venue for our special day!

My husband and I chose to get married at Valhalla for our destination wedding because it was one of the only beach-front venues in South Lake. Being near the water was important to us and Valhalla fit the bill perfectly. The site coordinator, Michelle, was incredible to work - very prompt and organized. We chose our venue first, then worked off their preferred vendor list for most all our other vendors and our day couldn't have been more perfect. From the drop-dead gorgeous grounds, to the lake backdrop and everything in between, Valhalla exceeded expectations. Our guests raved about how beautiful the venue was with all it's historic charm. Valhalla will forever have a special place in our hearts!

We booked Valhalla for our micro wedding on November 6 and it was an absolute dream. The team was fantastic from the moment we booked to The moment we left the property and even checked in with us A few days later to see how we were doing. They have amazing communication, check in with you regularly, answer any and all questions you have, can help recommend vendors from their preferred vendors list if you’re having trouble finding somebody, and the location is absolutely, breathtakingly, stunningly, gorgeous. The pictures themselves are beautiful but seeing it in person will take your breath away and getting married there?! A dream come true, especially if you have a great photographer that captures every moment like we did! The whole experience was just phenomenal, I can’t even put it into words that would be capable of describing how perfect our day was. Do yourself a favor, reach out to this venue and schedule a tour if you can, and book them for your special day. You definitely won’t regret it!

An absolutely amazing venue with great staff to help all your dreams come true. We originally planned on having our ceremony inside but dinner outside. Due to the crazy weather, we had to move everything inside. Michelle worked very well with our coordinator (Liane McCombs) to make sure everything went off flawlessly. Many of our guests said the wedding was like a hallmark movie. Words can't describe how amazing this venue was and the staff as well. Thank you for making my big day better then I could have imagined!

Thank you Margaret. We all work harder and dig deeper when we face challenges like a storm...
y day. I'm so glad you enjoyed your wedding despite the weather and the adjustments we had to make. Having your guests say it was like a Hallmark movie is the biggest compliment for the venue. Now you know you two can face any challenge together and I know you have many more happy days ahead of you. We hope you'll come back and visit us for many years to come. Cheers! Michelle

Valhalla is not only gorgeous, but the owner and staff are wonderful to work with and very accommodating through the entire process. Michelle is very easy to reach, will give you a tour of the venue any chance she can, and worked with us through COVID postponing and helped ease our stress. This venue does require you as the couple to do most of the work, but they have great recommendations and will give you their honest opinion with whatever you need. We chose this venue without hesitation for the rustic, romantic feel with the beautiful venue and the lake and trees as your landscape! I would choose it over and over again if I could!

Michelle at Valhalla is the absolute best!! We couldn’t have asked for a better venue manager to work with! She was always extremely responsive, very friendly and kind, professional, and really goes above and beyond what is expected! Michelle is just the nicest person ever, and I can’t stress that enough! It’s so important and helpful to have someone to work with who’s like that on one of the most important days of your life. Now, that I’m done bragging on Michelle, let me also mention that Valhalla is the most beautiful, intimate venue ever!! We looked at about 10 really nice venues in Tahoe before Valhalla and once we saw it, we instantly knew this was the right choice by far. The pier, the water, the beautiful pine trees, the building itself (so much character), and the fireplace, all made for the best wedding we could’ve ever imagined and our guests were just in awe of it all and can’t stop talking about it. Everything was perfect!! You will not regret getting married at beautiful Valhalla and will have the best, most genuine, person to work with that truly cares about your big day, also!

We have nothing but wonderful things to say about our recent wedding at Valhalla. It literally was the wedding of our dreams and the best day of our lives.
When looking for a venue we knew we wanted to incorporate the many things we both love about the outdoors & narrowed our search down to the Lake Tahoe area. When we set foot in Valhalla and were greeted by Michelle Morton -who was very sweet, very informative, and very supportive throughout the entire viewing of the venue- we immediately got the feeling of this is where we would like to marry one another.
Even though we had to wait 2 years to make this dream come true, it was well worth it and literally such a dreamy day. All of our guests were so impressed by the grounds, the venue, and the team members there. We are confident that we had the best wedding any of our guests were able to attend! So much was included for the price and it was exactly as we envisioned the day going. It was simply put: perfection.
Thank you SO much Valhalla for all of your attentive communication and making the beauty and magic of our wedding day just that. If we could do our wedding over we would definitely be doing it there again. Valhalla will have a special place in our hearts forever and we cannot wait to return in the future whether it be for our own event or one of the many that seem to be held there.
Thank you so very much. <3

Would definitely not recommend this place to anyone after the email I recieved from then. I was interested in renting this venue for a wedding and I wrote them asking if I can speak with them about it and get some prices and the reply back was very rude. Telling me this is not fit for my needs. How would they know without talking with me? Would definitely not give this venue any of my money. I would give zero stars for how they treat people.
Vendor response 01/24/2021
Hi Krista, we base our responses on your inquiry information. You said a Beach ceremony wa...
s what you were looking for and Valhalla Tahoe is only allowed to do ceremonies inside our Grand Hall in front of the fireplace.
This was our exact reply to you. I'm very sorry you found it rude - it is the suggested response from The Knot for inquiries that aren't a good fit for a vendor. Next time I'll be sure to mention the reason why we aren't a good fit.
"Thank you for your message and congratulations on your engagement! After reviewing your request we do not think our services would be the best fit for your needs. We appreciate your interest in our business and wish you all the best in planning your perfect wedding."

We just got married July of 2020 (yes mid pandemic) and Michelle was extremely helpful and flexible to help us still have our big day. The venue was absolutely beautiful and well taken care of. Our guests were very impressed with the view of the lake and the rustic building. Parking was great, the lawn was beautiful, and the caterer was able to service dinner easily on site. I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful wedding day!

Valhalla was pure magic. We were blessed with perfect weather, and a monarch migration, but even without those fortuitous happenings, the location is beyond gorgeous. The sprawling lawn provided the perfect setting for dinner and allowed the guests to roam around and take in the scenery at their leisure. Michelle made us feel incredibly special on our day and was there to ensure that everything went according to plan. Valhalla was the perfect backdrop to our dream wedding.

Valhalla is a great little gem in South Lake next to Camp Richardson. It is a government-owned building which comes with a few extra things to consider (aka: strict) but it's such a stunning property and you can't beat that view! You have to have the ceremony inside in the main hall. Not a problem, it's a great backdrop and it's very intimate. We had 60 guests, their max is 120. I wouldn't push the maximum there (at least for inside), so this is an ideal location for smaller sized weddings. We had our reception outside and luckily the weather cooperated. We had 7 circle tables and a few rectangular tables for the head table on one side of the lawn. The other was for lawn games. The bar was on the porch outside. A HUGE plus for this venue is you get to bring in outside alcohol and hire a bartender. This will save you thousands of dollars as I have learned from talking with friends who didn't have that choice. The upstairs of the building has 2 suites for the bridal party to get ready in which is lovely. Con: you only get the venue for 10 hours, which has to include set up and cleaning at the end of the night. Any extra time costs more. I highly recommend using vendors from their preferred list. They know the property and its quirks. All our vendors were amazing and the day was fantastic! Only taking off one star as the rates doubled from 2017 to 2018, which was a bummer! :(

After I contacted the USDA Forest Service who directed me to contact Valhalla Tahoe, I emailed Carolyn Grubb to inquire if I can rent the pier for an hour for a very small 15 minute elopement ceremony (5-10 people max). Instead of treating me as a potential customer she replied with the nastiest email filled with threats and false assumptions that we will trespass the property, the pier specifically. The bulk of her email reads below:
>> We have a wedding here at Valhalla on 10/15/17 and the wedding couple
>> have first rights to that pier. I hate to tell you this but since you
>> have advised us of this we will have to notify the USFS & USFS law
>> enforcement as to your plans and they would be on the look out and will
>> write you a very big and very expensive ticket if they catch you having
>> a wedding ceremony. They will not issue you a wedding permit or
>> permission as this has been tried many times.
>>
>> My overseer will also be notified and they will call the law
>> enforcement if they see you attempt to have a wedding on the pier or
>> anywhere outside near Valhalla, the Baldwin or Pope Estates.
>>
>> It would be a slap in the face to the couple renting Valhalla that day
>> as their contract specifies no outdoor ceremonies and it would not be
>> fair to them since they are paying to use the facility and grounds and
>> they are not permitted an outdoor ceremony.
A simple professional No for an answer to a potential customer and additional information that weddings are not permitted at the pier would have been enough and appreciated. Carolyn Grubb was unnecessarily offensive and needs to learn her manners.

Valhalla is a perfect place for a mountain wedding. You are provided full range of the hall, kitchen, bridal room, and groom's room. I had about 100 guests at my wedding, and was able to comfortably seat everyone. I had most of the tables inside, with a few out on the deck. The Hall is on public land, so I encourage any potential brides to walk around the property. You will fall in love!

Beside the edge of Lake Tahoe with a private dock for photos this was a perfect location. The venue hosts up to 125 people which was perfect for our event. The reception hall was the same for us as the ceremony site, it has vaulted open beam ceilings, hardwood floors, and an upstairs loft space for guests to look down on the ceremony, dinner, or dancing. The 'altar' is a huge hearth and fireplace with 9' mantle that you can decorate for your event. On either side of the fireplace there are wood benches built into the walls, which frame you nicely for the ceremony. The total height for the fireplace is about 20-25'. The brides quarters is upstairs where the guests can see her leave and walk down the stairs to the end of the aisle for a dramatic entrance. The venue has a 6' wide surround porch that also has a fireplace (they light all the fireplaces) for an amazing coctail area. The porch leads onto a huge lawn that has a path down to the beach & private dock for photos. The hardwood floors make it so that you don't need a dance floor and the hearth functions as a stage for the reception. The sunset is also beautiful there. Some details inside: there are 2 stalls in each bathroom downstairs and a private bathroom for the bride/groom upstairs with a vanity etc... There are separate grooms quarters at the opposite end of the building upstairs to avoid seeing eachother. They have a large coat closet and a guestbook area/room in the entry which is nice.;Beware of the weather in Tahoe - it's highly unpredictable. If you plan to have the reception all outdoors after dark then think about renting heaters. Note also that, at least in 2007, they do not allow ceremonies outside - only receptions. The ceremonies have to be elsewhere or inside at the fireplace/hall.
