The whole Valley Road Vineyards team (especially Barbara, Stan, and Ester) were amazing to work with from start to finish. Out of all the vineyards we toured in the area, VRVâs event space felt very intentional (essentially not an afterthought) for a wedding. We had a wedding of ~70 guests in October, and the event space layout made the flow of ceremony to cocktail hour to reception very natural/seamless. Some  of our guests had mobility disabilities, and Barbara emphasized how important it was to have the venue be accessible and help those guests. Additionally, though it didnât rain on our actual day, we loved the rain contingency plan within The Barn because it still gave us/guests the opportunity to admire the vineyardâs beautiful scenery. The views of the valley/mountains from Valley Road Vineyards are gorgeous, and our guests complimented the area and wines throughout our wedding day! Also, the sunset is STUNNING at the venue. During the initial venue tour, Barbara did an excellent job showing us the spaces, giving us time to enjoy the wines and discuss questions/concerns, and was honestly just a joy to interact with. As a queer couple, we felt welcomed by the entire staff. Throughout the entire planning process, Barbara was very quick to respond to any questions we had, flexible to what our needs were, and extremely helpful. We highly recommend Valley Road Vineyards for your wedding day!

As well as picturesque event spaces, it also features invaluable amenities, a talented events team, and bottle after bottle of award-winning wine. It is located 20 minutes west of Charlottesville and is less than a 40-minute drive from both Charlottesville Albemarle Airport and Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport. Valley Road Vineyards was founded in 2015 by a group of friends who all shared a passion for both Virginia and wine. After locating their site, they planted the first grapevines in April 2016 before transforming the area into a fully-operational winery and event venue. Since hosting their first wedding on Thanksgiving weekend 2018, CEO Stan Joynes and his team have dedicated themselves to providing couples with sensational celebration experiences. They love being a part of every special occasion and make client satisfaction their top priority.
Valley Road Vineyards offers a selection of charming event spaces to choose from depending on your specific needs and desires for your special day. Outdoor celebrations can be held on either the Lawn or The Vineyard, with room for up to 175 guests and an optional tent. Receptions can be hosted in The Barn, a fully refurbished space, complete with a dance floor and a deck, perfect for sunset toasts. Outside vendors are permitted, and a full list of preferred vendors is provided, featuring some of the area's finest caterers, planners, entertainment options, and more.

Hi! I'm Barbara.
In addition to my role as Valley Road Vineyards' Director of Marketing, I'm also one of the winery's Founders. My husband, Stan, who is the CEO, and I started VRV with four other couples in August 2016.
Initially, we focused on VRV's wine and guest experience. The first wedding was held Thanksgiving weekend 2018. Since then, we've grown our wedding business slowly and deliberately: with an emphasis on personal attention from the minute you first come to visit, all the way through your departure on your wedding day.

We toured several wineries in the area, and Valley Road stood out for...
several reasons. The venue and scenery are gorgeous, the prices are very reasonable for the area, and their wine was the best we tried.
The ceremony lawn has an incredible mountain view, and the reception barn spaces, inside and out, felt welcoming and well-designed. With the natural beauty of the property and the ambiance created by the string lights in the evening, we didnât have to spend as much on extra decor or florals to get the feeling we wanted. The getting-ready areas (the groomâs lodge and bridal loft) were both very comfortable and made for great photos.
We were very impressed with the VRV team. Barbara was a complete rockstar! She was organized, responsive, and helpful throughout the whole planning process, which we did from out of state. She, Stan, and the rest of the team clearly care a lot about what they do, and it shows in every detail.
On the wedding day itself, Ben and Esther handled everything smoothly and kept things running on schedule. Ben was awesome to work with. He was prepared and engaged the whole time, and had a great friendly energy which helped set the right tone for the day. The whole day felt like a fairytale because everything was so beautiful and went so smoothly. One of our favorite memories of the day was being able to ride up into the vineyard for some photos and getting to pause for a moment to take in the stunning mountain views together.
Overall, we were really happy with our decision and would recommend Valley Road Vineyards to anyone looking for a beautiful venue with a team that youâll feel confident in!

ews of the vineyard, mountains, and lake are gorgeous at Valley Road Vineyards. The reception barn is also incredible and versatile. The sliding barn doors are great for cocktail hour transitions and thereâs a great patch a grass on one side of the barn thatâs perfect for food trucks (we had Rookies and it fit great there).
We had our rehearsal dinner at Valley Road Vineyards and we loved the space for that too!
Barbara and her team were also incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the process. I think a super unique aspect of their team is they offer couples the opportunity to go into the vineyard together during cocktail hours to take pictures which I 10/10 recommend (some of our favorite pictures from the day are in the vineyards).
Our family and friends still talk about how pretty the venue was and also how great their wine is!

Our favorite part was our private visit to the top of the vines - it has the most amazing views in the area and is the perfect photo opportunity that gives the bride and groom a quiet moment to take everything in between the ceremony and reception. Everyone could not stop raving about how beautiful our wedding was and how organized the night felt. tains, and barn are gorgeous. Every detail of the facilities at Valley Road allowed for a wonderful atmosphere for our special day. We had to move our wedding inside and the indoor rain option at Valley Road is just as beautiful as the outdoor option. Additionally, the ability for the bride to get ready in the venueâs bridal suite and the groom to get ready in a separate groomâs suite was a huge selling point for us. Our favorite part of our wedding was our first look in the vines. We could have stayed in those vines forever!
We love that we can go back to the vineyard any time we want, drink wine and remember our special day. We couldnât have asked for a better place to celebrate our wedding. We are so grateful for the unforgettable memories and would recommend Valley Road Vineyard to anyone looking to make their wedding day truly extraordinary.

really appreciate Barbara for being flexible and accommodating as plans came together and changed leading up to the wedding. In an industry of potentially flakey vendors, VRV/Barbara were extremely helpful in being the glue to hold everything together and keep things moving forward. I also want to give a big shout out to Ben who was the lead organizer for the venue on the wedding day and he was terrific; our grandmas who needed to be escorted around via golf cart at times seemed to have the best time and had a constant smile on their face in Ben's company.
Then I also must mention the pure beauty of the venue. My wife and I got married in late October and the trees could not have been more beautiful. The site of the ceremony was beautiful with the mountain backdrop and the barn had a magical feel in the Fall as it turned from day to night. Also the opportunity for the couple to go up to the top of the mountain for pictures was every bit as awesome as I thought it would be.
Overall, if I could give the venue 10 stars here, I would. Could not recommend enough.

We had our rehearsal dinner in Valley Road's tasting room as well which was so convenient and another way to experience more time at the beautiful venue. Our guests raved about the wine (the best Rose in the world), and could not stop talking about how beautiful the views were. We even got to take photos in the vines during golden hour and those photos will forever be our favorite! We couldn't have chosen a more perfect venue for our special day and are so looking forward to the next time we can return for a glass of wine and those stunning mountain views!

After talking with Barbara, we were completely sold - Barbara is thoughtful, detail-oriented, and it is obvious that she cares deeply about helping couples have their dream wedding at Valley Road.
A tropical storm rolled through our wedding weekend, so we did not get to utilize much of the outdoor space. But the indoor space was perfect for the ceremony and was easily converted for cocktail hour and dancing. We were so thankful the venue has such a solid rain plan, and our wedding was still absolutely gorgeous! Ben was our day of venue representative, and he braved the pouring rain to take us up to the vineyards for some rainy portraits. And Barbara allowed us to go up in the vineyards and take pictures during our rehearsal to ensure we were still able to have that experience despite the rain. Going up to the vineyards is one of the most unique and special experiences Valley Road offers, and the views from up there are stunning!!! We are so grateful to Barbara and Ben, and we cannot recommend Valley Road enough!!!

nd outdoor areas are beautifully designed and the venue has the most incredible views. They also offer spaces for both bridal parties to get ready that are large, comfortable and have plenty of amenities (private bathrooms, small kitchen areas, lots of seating). The bridal suite has the perfect set up for hair and make up (our hair and make up team said it was the most impressive one they had worked at) and has good natural lighting for those perfect âgetting readyâ photos. The grounds are wonderful and have plenty of different areas for the first look, bridal portraits, couples photos and group shots. My favorite part of the day was the private 1-1 time we got to spend with our photographer up at the top of the vineyard for a golden hour shoot. Absolutely recommend.

The Gentlemen's Lodge, while I wasn't in there the day of, was especially enjoyed by my husband and his buddies. It is masculine and resembles a fancy, exemplary man retreat/manspace/man cave - just exactly the way everyone wishes their own looked!
The vineyard photographs at sunset, if you have an evening wedding, will be timed just right. Barbara writes down the time of sunset in her planner for everyday! Now how's that for some forethought!?
Ah - and I can't leave out they have the BEST WINE EVER! I love their wine. Love it. LOOOVE it. Your guest's - whether they are red or white drinkers - VRV has a special touch when it comes to growing and making their wine. Stan, Barbara's husband will be around and that's rare to see your owners on site and caring so much about everyday processes out in the open - my wedding photographer said as much. She said, "I've never seen the owner's on-site as involved and caring the way Barbara and Stan are." And she's been to a LOT of weddings.
It's so true, they make everything extra special and will have you feeling like part of the family! Now, go with haste, and book your wedding at Valley Road Vineyards!

I am so grateful for Barbara who was there for my husband and I from the beginning until the end and made our wedding planning so effective and enjoyable. Would book this venue all over again if I had to plan a wedding :-)

The 'getting ready' areas for the groomsmen (The Lodge) and the bridesmaids (The Loft) were spacious, photogenic, and provided a great comfortable space for everyone while preparing for the ceremony. The reception and cocktail hour location provided the perfect combination of both indoor and outdoor space for comfort in most weather.
Barbara, Stan, and the staff at Valley Road were all friendly and professional from our first visit to tour the venue through to our wedding day. We planned our wedding from out of state, and the communication and responsiveness of Barb and the rest of the staff left us feeling assured that our wedding day would proceed without any issue. They provided detailed information about the venue and the furnishings available along with a long list of recommended vendors familiar with the venue that we used to source the majority of our vendors.

autiful wedding. Barbara, Stan, and Ben were so helpful from the beginning stages of planning to everything on our big day! We had many unexpected changes due to rain on our day, and they all helped to ensure everything went smoothly. We even buried a bottle of bourbon a month before and Ben went out in the rain to dig it up for us!! Our pictures so far have been STUNNING! All of our guests shared how wonderful the venue was. I can not thank Valley Road Vineyards enough for being a part of our big day. This place will hold a special place in our hearts forever, we can't wait to come back and visit!! <3

I planned the majority of our wedding from states away and it never felt like a barrier with this team. The day of was flawless and miles beyond what I envisioned. The space was amazing and so well stocked and set up; having Barbara on hand all day was invaluable; guests raved about the views and scenery as well as the location (proximity to Charlottesville 10/10!). iority, despite the fact that I know they must be working with tons of other couples at the same time. Our guests were blown away by the gorgeous views and barn set-up. We really loved how much fresh air could circulate through the barn throughout the entire reception, which helped us feel more at ease with covid concerns. Last but certainly not least, we also got tons of comments about the quality of the wine too, which is sometimes sacrificed at other vineyard event venues. We can't recommend VRV enough!

the mountains and vineyards. After the ceremony, guests moved to the beautiful rustic but chic barn for the reception.
The barn is painted white inside with gorgeous large chandeliers above. Views from the deck surrounding the barn were breathtaking. Our guests were in awe! The owners, Barbara and Stan were great to work with. Barbara provided the names of several vendors she recommended which was a great help to us since we were fairly new to the area. The bridal suite was beautifully appointed. There was plenty of room for several brides maids to get ready as well as a nice area for hair and makeup to be done. The grooms cottage was a big hit as well. The guys loved having their own hangout in a newly renovated cottage. I would also suggest renting out their tasting room for the rehearsal party. It is a great space for a more casual rehearsal party which was what the bride and groom preferred. It was nice to have the party on site so that as soon as the rehearsal was over, the partying could begin!

rst stop on a tour of possible reception locations in Charlottesville. We live in Richmond, so we wanted to make a day out of it. We budgeted about 45 minutes of time at each spot, but ended up spending about 2 hours at Valley Road just talking with Barbara and Stan. As soon as we got in the car, we both were sure we found our spot. We still did our due diligence and went to the other locations, but we knew what we wanted. We signed with them that week.
In the following months, we made sure to stop by Valley Road on our trips up to Charlottesville. Barbara was flexible with our schedules, and made time to give our family and friends tours of the reception area. Stan was always happy to come by and talk about the wine, and he made sure to inform us when they were running out of one bottle in case we wanted to secure it for the wedding. They were flexible with their spaces, and had prompt correspondence with us. One amazing highlight was the Gator ride to the top of the mountain where Sarah and I were able to get several sunset pictures of just the two of us. Though the festivities are over, Valley Road Vineyard will continue to be a staple of our Charlottesville visits.

EVER MADE. From the get-go Valley Roadâs Director of Marketing and co-owner, Barbara Joynes, took great care of us. Calm demeanor, outstanding communication, organization, and flexibilityâŚ.we were in expert hands. Barbara and her husband Stan, the resident wine guru, met with the LA-based bride and groom for the first time two days before the wedding to pick out wine for the wedding day, as well as general wine shop talk. The bride and groom were delighted to finally meet Barbara and Stan and were really excited about the wine selections. The venue itself was perfect for our needs, reasonably priced, and convenient to Charlottesville, in Afton VA. They have clearly invested a lot of thought/energy/money into making it not only a lovely event venue, but also a wonderful place to stop for a delicious glass/bottle of wine and gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Brideâs loft in the event barn was perfectly appointed, with a killer mountain view, as was the Groomâs lodge near the ceremony site. The event barn with its deck was spacious and on a beautiful September evening many of our guests were able to dine outside. The front dining room of the barn is open on three sides so even those dining inside enjoyed the fresh airâŚa must have during Covid. There were a number of areas available for the ceremony site, and they had a solid rain plan. There were lots of lovely touches (stringed lighting, wine barrels for flower arrangements, wine barrel tables, lanterns, rustic high-tops, etc.) that really added to the charm of the venue. If wedding photographs are important to you, as they were to my daughter, there was no shortage of scenic spots for pictures. I cannot recommend Valley Road Vineyards enoughâŚ

family through it all and it turned into the most epic wedding that we couldn't have even dreamed of. If you're looking for amazing views, wines, a fantastic venue and staff, look no further. They made our vow renewal feel like the first time and even beyond that. The reception barn is the perfect blend of rustic and elegance. The getting ready spaces for the bride and groom are wonderful. All of the improvements to the property just enhanced the whole experience. The ceremony lawn with breathtaking views of the vines, mountains and even a large pond. Our guests loved the location and having the lawn to play yard games, the deck and plenty of room in the interior made for a wonderful time for all of our friends and family. So happy that we can visit and relive all of the special memories we had that day and always be greeted with a warm welcome from our Valley Roads family! who would have thought 3 years later that would be where I actually got married!
Valley Road is also where my now husband proposed, and from then and through the wedding, Barbara, Stan, and the Valley Road team have been nothing short of AMAZING and accommodating to work with. Every question was answered quickly and with enthusiasm, and they will do whatever they can for you. They truly make you feel like you are so important and give you their undivided attention.
The views are SPECTACULAR for pictures. They even take you up in a gator to the top of the vineyards after the ceremony for some beautiful golden hour shots. Everyone has continually been complimenting Barbara and how great and involved she was throughout the wedding day, which is pretty awesome for a co-owner of a venue to be during the event! I also like how the location of the ceremony and reception have a sense of privacy from the rest of the vineyard so you feel like you have it to yourself, and the ceremony and reception are in walking distance from each other. They have a beautiful getting ready spot for both the bride/bridesmaids and groom/groomsmen as well. Everything you truly need for your wedding day is in one spot!
The Valley Road team truly cares about your event and their vineyard, and they are ALWAYS adding new things to improve their vineyard and the wedding venue. I cannot wait to see how much it is going to continually get more amazing each year! I highly recommend Valley Road Vineyards for your wedding!

rep suite, a groomsmen's prep house and an awesome 'barn' with a beautiful lawn for an indoor, outdoor or combined reception. It provided exceptional flexibility for inclement weather. Barbara also recommended an terrific wedding coordinator (Hannah Dubit) who worked seamlesly with Barbara to accomodate our vision. Barbara also provided two different walk throughs with the coordinator to cover any details. The price and amenities that Valley Roads provided were exceptional compared to other venues we looked at. I would definitely recommend them. First class customer service and value. Lastly, after planning this special occasion over several months, my husband and I were so impressed with Barbara and Valley Road, and will continue to enjoy their wines and hospitality in the future.
