Part 1of 2 Nightmare on Elm Street
As mother of the bride, and Matron of Honor, I was completely shocked at the lack of professionalism, accountability and overall inexperience.
Days leading up to the wedding and reception both held at the Kr...ess Terrace, we requested multiple meetings to finalize our wine selection, confirm color scheme, and timing of the wedding and other details. How can I put it, well it was like "pulling teeth" to get anyone let alone the owner to return calls and actually set-up a meeting. When we finally sat down with owner to discuss the details, going back and forth with owner and her staff, we were told by the owner, “I’ve been doing this along time, don't worry, I'm good at what I do".
I don't know where to begin...
The parking
Our daughter’s wedding unbeknownst to us, fell on the same weekend as the Folk Festival. You would think that when choosing such an important date, giving the event manager several dates in September, and finally landing the date (only date available in September), the event coordinator for the Kress/Visions Catering would have the Folk Festival on calendar as a potential conflict and give any potential client the heads up prior to the client choosing their date for their big day. You see, during the Folk Festive downtown parking is $10.00 per car, which on a normal weekend parking would be free. We were told “no worries” we (Visions) will handle this with the city. Well, that didn’t happen, after several attempts to get this issued settled with Visions and the wedding quickly approaching, we were told by Visions that we would have to pay for parking. So, I reached out to the city and they came to an agreement to reduce cost per car of $5.00, which of course we were not going to allow our guests to incur the cost. We paid the cost of parking to the city day before the wedding.
The Food
Many of our guests complained about the food, or lack thereof. The mashed potatoes and rolls were gone before our last table made their way to the buffet; mind you we only had 105 attendees. Clearly there was not enough food for our guests. We ordered teriyaki baked chicken, we were served was plain baked chicken (over baked), we ordered penne pasta with vodka sauce, what we were served was clearly not penne pasta with vodka sauce; it was some type of cream sauce. As for the appetizers, we ordered three and received a fourth as a bonus, caprese crostini, we never received, the crostini's.
The Staff...
There were issues the staff. I expected to see the staff professionally dressed or at the least, in clean clothes not a black un-tucked t-shirt and jeans. Every wedding reception I have ever attended (not at the Kress Terrace), the bartenders are for the most part always wearing a vest, not a t-shirt. The server behind the buffet table couldn't have more than 16 years old, wearing the same (dirty cloths as the bartender) serving mash potatoes with an ice cream scooper. This was completely unacceptable; this after all was a wedding reception, not a cafeteria lunch line. We were to have a "chef" carving station for what was supposed to be medium rare beef, what was served by the "boy" behind the buffet table was nothing more than a very well done hockey puck, not medium rare beef.
