tings with the venue’s owner to discuss the setup, signage, arch, tables, chairs, and details for our ceremony and reception. During our meeting the Wednesday before our wedding, I was assured everything would be completed by Friday night. Unfortunately, that did not happen.
Before our Friday rehearsal, we had to help complete the chair setup. During rehearsal, I again expressed my concerns with the owner and was assured everything would be taken care of, including rearranging the tables to allow enough room for guests to move throughout the hall. That was not done either.
When my family arrived Saturday morning, very little had been completed. I called and texted the owner but received no response, even though I had been told she would be there. The tables were not fully set with plates, silverware, and glassware until about an hour before our wedding. The linens were also wrinkled, despite being told they would be steamed Friday night.
The arch had not been assembled as discussed, and was put together and decorated shortly before the wedding. The tables were not properly arranged, we did not have the easels or signage we had discussed, and the space remained in disarray until shortly before the ceremony.
We also learned of another wedding had been scheduled for 2 p.m. on the same day as our 4 p.m. wedding. Because of that event, our ceremony chairs could not be set up until after the other wedding. I understand venues may host multiple events, but this should have been communicated to us in advance so we could understand how it would affect our setup and timeline.
There were also other issues, including shoes given to the owner to be placed on our head table that went missing, and concerns about people not part of our wedding being allowed to sit in the area we had paid for.
What disappointed me most was not that everything wasn’t perfect. My biggest disappointment was the lack of communication, preparation, and follow-through.
If I had been contacted ahead of time, I could have prepared differently. Instead, I found out about these issues the morning of my wedding and had to rely on family and friends.
Thankfully, my SIL/coordinator, my daughter, our wedding party, family, and friends worked hard to make sure our wedding came together. I am extremely grateful for them.
We paid the venue in full by the required deadline, and I expected the services we discussed to be delivered.
Two weeks after our wedding, I contacted the owner to honestly express my concerns and give her an opportunity to explain what happened. She said she would look into it and follow up. To date, I still have not received a follow-up. Not a call or text.
I am not leaving this review because I expected perfection. I am sharing it because this was our actual experience. After eight months of planning what should have been one of the most special days of our lives, we should not have had to spend the day before and morning of our wedding scrambling to make sure the venue was ready.
Our wedding day ultimately turned out beautiful because of the people who surrounded us and stepped in to help. However, based on our experience with the preparation, communication, and follow-through, I cannot honestly recommend Vista On the Docks to other couples planning their wedding.

o wrong at any large event. But after everything that happened that evening—and after speaking with the venue afterward and receiving no apology, accountability, or reimbursement—I feel that I need to share our experience.
We spent months planning this wedding and a tremendous amount of money trying to give our daughter and son-in-law a beautiful day. As the mother of the bride, I was so excited to simply enjoy the day with my daughter and our family. I had specifically been assured by the owner that everything would be handled and that I could relax and enjoy myself.
Unfortunately, that was not what happened.
The bars were not properly staffed and ready to go in a timely manner. It became such an issue that my son-in-law’s aunt had to step in and help get the situation straightened out. A wedding guest and family member should never have to take responsibility for getting a venue’s bar service functioning during the reception.
Then came the food situation, which was by far one of the most upsetting parts of the evening.
The food ran out while there were still tables waiting to be served. Additional food had to be prepared and warmed, and the delay was approximately an hour. This threw off the wedding timeline we had spent months planning.
Some of our guests received shockingly small portions. There were people who literally received only a few carrots and a few potatoes. When some guests asked for more food, they were told no.
We also discovered that the person/caterer we believed was going to be preparing the food had been fired the day before the wedding. We were never notified of this major change. My daughter asked to speak with the chef she believed was preparing her wedding meal and was told that the chef had been there but had just left. We later learned that was not true.
As if that were not enough, the bathrooms also flooded during the reception. Someone then came through the reception area with a mop that was dripping water from the bathroom floor. It was incredibly unpleasant and unsanitary. The owner attempted to blame our guests for the overflowing toilets, despite our understanding that there had been plumbing problems at the venue before our wedding.
I had been so excited to have a stress-free day celebrating my daughter. Instead, I was dealing with problems that we had paid professionals to handle while my daughter was upset and embarrassed on a day she had looked forward to for so long.
We have since spoken with the venue about our experience. What we wanted more than anything was accountability. An acknowledgment that things went wrong. A sincere apology. Some effort to make things right. We received no apology, no accountability, and no reimbursement.
We weren’t asking for perfection. We were asking for the services we paid for, enough food for our guests, honest communication, properly functioning facilities, professional treatment when problems arose, and some compassion for a bride whose wedding reception was being affected.
A wedding day cannot be repeated. Once it’s over, it’s over. That’s why accountability matters so much when people trust a venue with one of the most important days of their lives.

nd the city in the background was such a surreal and unforgettable moment. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful, and the reception space was modern, elegant, and decorated perfectly.
The getting-ready spaces were also amazing! My hairstylist team loved all of the stations in the girls’ room, and the beautiful lit-up mirrors and flower wall made it such a fun space for getting ready and taking pictures. The guys loved having their own space too, especially the pool table!
The planning process was such a huge help. The rehearsal made everything feel much more organized, and all of the meetings beforehand made sure they understood exactly what we wanted. They had so many decorations, linens, napkins, and tablecloths available for us to choose from, which helped us save money while still making everything look gorgeous.
The staff truly went above and beyond to help our day run as smoothly as possible. They helped with setup, stayed on top of everything throughout the reception, and were always kind and accommodating. We definitely got caught up having way too much fun with our guests and may have stopped paying attention to the schedule by the end of dinner 😂, but that was completely on us! The bartenders definitely made sure everyone was having a VERY good time.
Even when an unexpected family emergency happened during the reception, the staff handled everything so calmly and professionally while keeping the rest of the celebration going. They were truly on top of everything.
Overall, we are SO happy we chose Vista of the Docks. From the gorgeous waterfront ceremony and beautiful reception space to the getting-ready rooms, planning, setup, staff, and attention to detail, they helped make our wedding day everything we dreamed of. It was such a beautiful and memorable day, and we would absolutely recommend Vista of the Docks to anyone looking for the perfect wedding venue! ❤️
