We held our daughter's wedding at Kumler Chapel with the reception at Shriver Center. We were thrilled with the service we received from Susan Coleman with Miami University's event services team. It was like having a personal wedding planner. She helped us think of details regarding the reception we would not have thought of. She was communicative throughout the whole process. The food at the reception by Miami's catering team was excellent. Both venues were gorgeous and exceeded our expectations.
Neila, the wedding planner at Miami was a delight to work with. We had my daughter's wedding at Kumler Chapel and the reception at Shriver Center. The staff was amazing at accommodating us with a wedding the night before. They handled all our details, had everything set the way we had planned, were professional, and easy to work with. The food was wonderful-we couldn't have been more pleased. I would highly recommend at wedding there and working with them was wonderful.
As Miami Mergers our wedding day in Oxford was perfect from start to finish. Of course, this perfect day was months in the making thanks to the fantastic crew at Carillon Catering, most notably Neila Hanges. We live in Nashville, Tennessee, so Neila helped us through every aspect of the event planning process from assisting us with floor diagrams, providing us with vendor recommendations, and even whipping together a phenomenal Miami Mergers rehearsal dinner cake at the last minute.
Our wedding ceremony took place at Kumler Chapel, and our guests had nothing but positive compliments. The chapel was beautiful, and the newly installed air conditioning was a huge plus! We did not decorate the chapel in any capacity, and I think it looked absolutely lovely. The stained glass, ornate woodwork and arched ceilings looked lovely as is -- our photographs reflect that.
Following the ceremony, we hosted a cocktail hour and reception at the Armstrong Student Center. I cannot compliment the event staff enough. Unlike other venues we looked at, Miami was so transparent about charges and mysterious fees. The event staff set up all of our rented tables and wedding decorations at no charge. They coordinated with our other vendors including the florist, DJ, and chair rental company. What can I say about the Armstrong Student Center that hasn't been said? It was absolutely beautiful and again, needed minimal decorations. Food was delicious, and the prices were extremely competitive with other venues. Compared to anywhere else in Oxford, ASC was an absolute steal and by far the best space!
We had the misfortune of having an MIA DJ (Great Day Productions - don't use). Luckily, the Armstrong Student Center staff was quick on their feet to help us with a Plan B.
My only complaint was the lighting situation. It seemed as though the only settings were extremely bright lights, stadium lighting, or no lights. Hopefully that's being worked out!
We chose to have our wedding at Miami because we are Miami Mergers and we were planning our wedding when I was still in South America. My sister had gotten married in Kumler and had her reception in the Heritage room so we did almost the same thing out of convenience. Neila with the Heritage Room was the most unprofessional, pushy, rude, and unorganized person of the entire wedding planning process. She pressured us to include things in our reception we didn't want to jump up the price. She didn't treat our event with importance. To top things off she didn't provide the contracted amount of time for our reception because "there was an event in the room the night before." That shouldn't effect our contract. Not just once, but 3 time we had to call the University Services to get doors unlocked for us because she was not doing her job. Causing our rehearsal and reception set up to fall behind schedule. DO NOT HAVE YOUR WEDDING WITH ANY MIAMI UNIVERSITY PERSONNEL. Unless you want stress and yelling the day of your wedding, it's worth the extra work to find another venue. Neila needs to learn to do her job correctly or shouldn't have a job.
This was the perfect venue for my wedding reception! The newly renovated interior looks stunning, and the food was wonderful. I loved not having to rent separate linens and tableware!
Shriver Center was wonderful! They made our day perfect. From the day we started planning, they helped it run completely smoothly. Every time I had a question, they had a great answer. They set up the hall, served the meal and cleaned up. My mother had to do nothing! They took all my worries and made them go away! Overall, they completely exceeded my expectations!
My husband and I used the Shriver Center as both our ceremony venue and our reception venue. We brought in oodles and oodles of decorations that we had made or ordered and frankly I was extremely worried that they wouldn't be set up right. I was completely wrong. The staff at Shriver set up everything exactly as I asked and had pictured and it was beautiful! Additionally, the food and beverages were excellent as was the staff who worked our event.
I cannot say enough about my experience working with The Shriver Center. Neila is absolutely amazing! She met with us several times throughout the process, was always willing to make accommodations, incredibly helpful with the details. We simply decided what we wanted, brought everything of ours over the day before, and their staff did the rest. The room looked so beautiful the night of - it truly was amazing. And the food was delicious too! I have no complaints at all. :) - KJF 5/28
Great bargain for the price. Food was EXCELLENT and reception site was across the street from our wedding chapel! Guest did not have to drive anywhere, just walked across the street. Staff was AWESOME and really catered to the Bride and Groom!;I would be careful when planning your reception during the school year. Summer is best. Some weekends when the university is in session are event weekends which will make parking extremely difficult to find.
Awesome food huge room supplied and set up tables chair covers dishes wonderful experience very easy to work with and cooperative..photographer said food was the best they'd had all year
