After we contacted Jeff online, he arranged to conference call my wife and I to go over what kind of wedding we wanted. He had emailed us a page of general information and explaining the usual steps that a wedding has - processional, welcome, blessings, readings, vows, etc, and he very patiently went over all of the options with us. At every turn he was more than willing to accommodate our wishes. We choose to have an informal, simple, mostly secular wedding in front of just our immediate families in a beautiful outdoor setting with a hawaiian theme. As we are both musicians, part of our ceremony involved me singing a love song to my (then) fiancee, and she joined in with harmonies after the first verse. It was beautiful! Jeff was very supportive of all our wishes. A couple of days before the wedding he arranged for a second phone meeting to review the plans and specify particulars (what song? What vows? etc) This was very helpful! On the wedding day, he arrived at the wedding site 30 minutes early, dressed in a dark suit, with a white shirt, dark tie, and wearing a white scarf similar to a minister's, except that out of deference to our preference for a secular wedding, it had interlocking hearts and an infinity symbol tastefully embroidered onto it rather than any religious symbols. After arriving he went over the directions with the wedding party - who walks in when, from where, etc. We had a photographer and a videographer who both did a great job, in part because Jeff explained to them what was going to happen before we started. The ceremony was beautiful and Jeff did a great job. There was one minor glitch - I had misunderstood that he would bring a printout of my wedding vows to hand me at the appropriate time, and he didn't - but I had emailed them to him and so he was able to bring them up on his phone and hand it to me to read from. This took a minute or so but our family hardly noticed because it was such a quick pause and Jeff handled it with such grace. We highly recommend Jeff! Footnote - Please be careful when you hire someone you find online. There are people listed on there who are not qualified to perform completely legal weddings in North Carolina. In particular, people with ordinations from online "churches" such as Universal Life Church can marry you and your marriage will be valid but your wedding can later be invalidated if anyone challenges it. We had had an unhappy encounter with one of those people before we found Jeff. Due to this experience, we wanted to make sure Jeff was fully qualified, and he was more than happy to send us a copy of his certificate of ordination and a letter of good standing from Christian Leaders Alliance. Be sure to ask about this before you send anyone a deposit or sign a contract!
