Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Marie as a seamstress. The boutique where I purchased my wedding dress made a mistake with my measurements, and they arranged for her to handle th...
e necessary alterations so I felt like I had no say in the seamstress and so wish I took the dress and left after the first time I met her. While she did ultimately make the dress wearable, the entire experience was unnecessarily stressful and unprofessional.
From the start, Marie was disorganized and forgetful with appointment times. She often kept me trapped in long, unrelated conversations about her personal life, from her garden to family issues to car accidents. I was paying for a service, but instead of using our time efficiently, she repeatedly diverted into tangents that left me drained and frustrated. She could have been working on other brides dresses too during that time!
The most disappointing part was that my dress was not ready until the night before I flew out for my wedding—even though I had ordered my dress well in advance to have time to try different accessories and hairstyles. This completely robbed me of the chance to plan those details with the time I had envisioned. After my first appointment, she told me she would follow up when the dress was ready for the next fitting. A month later, after I reached out to her myself, she claimed she had been “waiting to hear from me” and needed a few more weeks. Her lack of communication and organization was very stressful.
When I was on my way to pick up my completed dress, she caalled to say that her steamer left a black mark down the front of it. I am an understanding person and knowthings happen but it was pushing me to ny breaking point and I was flying out 2 days later. She said she would need to rush it to the dry cleaners before they closed but to still come try it on. The dry cleaners had agreed to wait for her to come by before the evening. She AGAIN was talking to me about her car accident, that she caused, and I had to gently remind her that the dry cleaners were waiting for her and that she should leave before we miss the chance to get the black line out of my dress. Thankfully it was fixed, but the timing was not great
Other brides had told her that she needed an assistant, and she would go on and on about how shes fine and but I agreed with the other brides. Her inability to stay organized or manage her workload caused me unnecessary anxiety leading up to one of the most important days of my life.
If I could do it over again, I would have chosen my own seamstress from the start. Marie may be capable of sewing, but her lack of professionalism, poor time management, and constant oversharing made this an awful experience. Brides deserve better. When other brides tell me they have their dress weekes before their wedding I still feel irritated.
Marie helped tailor my wedding dress from BHLDN as well as a qipao from etsy. She is so kind and informative. I felt so comfortable working with her through this dress tailoring pr...
ocess. She's very knowledgable helping me talk out different ideas I had and her giving her honest opinion as well as supportive. I had an amazing time working with her and I felt that her prices were extremely reasonable for the amount of care and effort she puts into making you feel amazing on your big day. Her professionalism as well as friendliness is what I think of most whenever I think of her :)
I bought a new wedding dress about 2-3 months out from my wedding (didn’t like the original purchase I made) and was on a mad hunt for a tailor that would take me on short notice w...
ith not a lot of time to fix the dress. Enter Marie, my saving grace. She took me as an end of the day add on - I think because she could hear the desperation in my voice - and worked some very quick miracles. She always let me have the choice but would make recommendations on what she thought would work best. I ended up with the most beautiful dress that fit me like a glove. I knew I was in good hands and her sweet and patient demeanor were so needed during such a high stress time. I also loved that she was a straight shooter. I could count on her opinion and know that I could ask a question and get an honest answer. I HIGHLY recommend Marie.
Marie is an angel on earth. I came to her with a wedding dress top that was ill-fitting, the wrong color, and just overall not what I wanted. The moment I tried it on for her, she ...
knew exactly what she had to do/change. By pointing out and explaining everything that needed to be changed/fixed, I felt so comfortable because I knew then that she knew what she was doing. She completely remade the top with the right color fabric and made it perfect- exactly what I had wanted/imagined myself wearing on my wedding day. I would recommend Marie to anyone. She is extremely talented; she is kind and thoughtful (gave me a beautiful handmade gift on our last fitting) and she is funny- my mother and I looked forward to our fittings with her. Thank you, Marie, for making the top of my dreams! I felt like a goddess on my wedding day!
Marie is an angel on earth! I am so happy that I met her. She is truly an artist when it comes to wedding dresses and alterations of any kind. Her prices are incredibly affordable ...
and she hustles for you. Definitely call her as far in advance as you can because she stays busy (literally she is in VERY high demand). She made a very stressful process of being a COVID bride mess (aka I bought a wedding dress in 2019 and didn't end up wearing it until 2021), with ease and made me feel beautiful. I'm sad I don't get to see her at my appointments anymore truly. She's an absolute gem. Go see her ASAP!!!!
Seamstress extraordinaire!
Marie worked her magic on my wedding dress. With one look, she knew exactly what needed to be done: straps shortened, take it in on the sides, add bonin...
g and a bustle. The result was nothing short of perfection and my dress fit like a glove!
I enjoyed my time at Marie's studio. She's funny, bubbly, and (best of all) knows her craft.
I'm not a bride, the groom rather. But my bride went in for alterations, and had a terrible experience. I had been waiting down the street with her father, and i noticed them all s...
tanding outside. Turns out the owner of this business overbooked herself and decided to take it out on my bride by mocking her, and reminding her that she "waltzed in" and caused others to wait, even though she told her to come in on a certain day, at a certain time. Sounds a little like an appointment to me. After that you'd want to leave wouldnt you? Good luck, we were stuck at her store listenening to her complain about how my bride told her mom about the experience. Thank God Marie took the pins out and didnt do anything with the dress, because if shes going to act in that manner, I wouldn't put a cent into that business.
At first I thought Marie would be a perfect choice to alter my dress. She told me to come in on saturday at 4. When I came in, she repeatedly reminded me how this wasn't an appoint...
ment, how I was rude to make other brides wait, etc. She even mocked my voice, and was completely disrespectful.
When I told her I would leave since she was obviously busy, she asked me to "like her" and just understand I'm taking up other bride's time. I left outside and complained to my family about her rude unprofessionalism. She runs outside, eavesdropped on our conversation, and demanded a 'formal apology.' When I asked "where is my apology where you mocked and embarrassed me?" She took the pins out the dress and gave it back.
My appointment, and yes it was an appointment, took no longer than 15 minutes total. The audacity for her to insult and berate a new client, and make me feel as if I just waltzed in and demanded her attention, is absurd. I drove 5 hours from Arizona for and appointment we set up. I would never take that time to just walk in on a busy woman.
Marie, I understand you overbooked yourself, not me. If you didn't have the time, you shouldn't have tried to make time. Frankly, you seem a little unstable. I'm very glad I'll be taking my business to a local tailor rather than you.
Marie is amazing! She made my dress fit perfectly and look amazing. I couldn't be happier!
At first I liked Marie. She came highly recommended from my bridal boutique and she made me laugh. She was also very talented with making the straps I wanted for my wedding dress -...
my dress came strapless and she added the perfect lacy straps from a picture I showed her. BUT on my wedding day, after I said "I do," when I hugged the first person of the day, one of the straps ripped almost completely off (and it was not a bear hug, mind you)! Thank God my maid of honor knew how to use a needle and thread, but that's not what you want happening in the middle of your ceremony!
The strap could've been just bad luck and not Marie, but what is making my leave a 1-star review is her unprofessionalism. Every time I went into her shop she loved telling me stories of other brides - about their meltdowns, mishaps and bad attitudes. She repeatedly said, "Oh but YOU'RE a good one, you're always nice and bubbly. But you brides drive me crazy. You brides keep me here until late, you brides... you brides... you brides......" I run my own business and I'm a one-woman shop as well, so I know how it is to have clients drive me nuts and keep me working late, but I would NEVER complain to my clients about other clients or tell their embarrassing stories. Marie, I know you're overworked, but instead of gossiping and complaining, maybe you should reduce your work hours and vent to your friends instead of your clients.
Sorry Marie!
I came to West Coast Couture for my alterations and was very pleased with how my dressed turned out. I bought my dress from Glamour Closet so it was right off the rack. I absolutel...
y loved my dress but it was too big (needed to be taken in quite a bit) and because I am pear shaped, the fabric on my butt bubbled since my waist is much smaller than my hips. My dress was a sweetheart, strapless A-line with a beautiful lace overlay so it was very delicate. I had to come to Marie a total of 4 times to get it to the place I needed it. In addition to the taking in and relaying the fabric, she also put cups in and did a bustle. You can tell Marie has been doing this a long time, she is an expert at what she does. I loved that she spent time with me going over the dress, gave me her opinion and always assured me that it was going to turn out just how I imagined. I will warn you, Marie can be opinionated and does have a big personality, so at times it may come off as harsh or abrasive but it's only because she's passionate about her work and wants the best for you. Because she is so great, she is very busy so be prepared and stay organized. In addition to alterations, Marie also makes beautiful vows. Be very clear about what you want (color, look, length) and allow for the time to make it. Make sure you ask about seeing it before making the decision to purchase. Don't leave this to the last minute.
I went to this place to alter my dress because it fitting too tight and she fixed my dress. She is great and friendly. She will make you feel like everything is going to be ok.
Marie at West Coast will immediately make you feel comfortable and gorgeous. She made my dress fit like an absolute glove and I felt so pretty. I wanted to add chiffon straps, and ...
she helped me take make that vision a reality. I had a great time at all my fittings too- which really helped make the whole wedding experience. Go here!
I cannot tell you how much I love and appreciate this place. Marie is amazing and runs her shop seamlessly. I was comfortable the minute I walked in and did not hesitate leaving my...
dress with her for even a second. I knew it was in great hands. The BEST!!!! My dress came out perfectly! She has an eye for both fit and detail and can explain things in layman's terms. This is THE place for wedding dress alterations!!!
I had bought my wedding dress at David's Bridal but did not want to go back there for the alterations, since I'd heard some horror stories. I looked on Yelp and found great reviews...
for West Coast Couture and was not let down! My dress had a number of things that made it hard to alter, but Marie did an amazing job! She really wanted me to be happy with the result and offered to make more changes at no additional charge. But i thought the dress already fit perfectly, so no need for that. She is a delight and really great to work with, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking to have her make a dress from scratch or do alterations on a dress you already have. Her fees might seem a little steep at first, but she only charges once while others seem to add on later for each additional change, so it's really nice to have the peace of mind that you pay up front and that's it. She's a real pro, with 20 years of experience, so it's worth it!!
