We got married last summer and hired Westrich as our photographer. The only thing I wish I could do ov...
er from my wedding was our decision to hire Westrich. The first thing I should mention is that we live in Chicago which we told Rob when we met for a consultation. He assured us that living in a different city wouldn’t be a problem and that we could handle everything we needed to (except for the day of) remotely. Rob was fine to deal with leading up to the wedding.
He asked us to meet with him 3 days before the wedding when get got in town to touch base before the big day and that the meeting should only take 30 minutes. When we met with him he kept going on and on about how our wedding itinerary did not make sense. I repeatedly asked him to contact our wedding planner if he had questions because I did not put the itinerary together. Finally, after taking over an hour of time and making us late for other appointments we finally told him we had to leave. I was very confused why a photographer would try to stress the bride out three days before a wedding over something that she didn’t create.
All of these previous issues I could tolerate, however, what I could not tolerate was how we were treated after the wedding itself. When we had our initial meeting and decided to hire him we asked how long it normally takes to get the proofs of the pictures and the wedding album. He told us that he could move very quickly, if the process dragged on it was normally because the bride and groom were taking a long time to decide on which pictures they like … oh, how I wish that were true. Our wedding was in August and we did not receive a single picture, not a proof or a website of proofs until Thanksgiving… 3 months after the wedding.
The pictures themselves were fine – but certainly not worth the headaches we encountered every other step of the way. My husband and I took three weeks to select each picture that we wanted included in the wedding book and emailed him back the spreadsheet that he asks for. So it’s Christmas time and they had all of the information they needed to create the album and have us review it for a final approval. I had to follow up with them multiple times and I sent multiple emails that went unanswered week after week asking for a status update. Finally he wrote back that we would need to come to his office to discuss the album in person. This wouldn’t have been a problem had we been told upfront that we would need to come in to the office, but he never mentioned that when we initially met and told him we didn’t live in St. Louis. We explained that we weren’t coming home for a while and that we didn’t want that to hold up the process. Again, our emails went unanswered for weeks. Finally, after my parents called he admitted that this process could be done via email.
By this time, it was April, so 4 months after we sent in our list of photos to be included in the album. This delay was solely their fault. They sent over the first draft of the album and included in the bottom of the email how much extra each edit to their proposed album was going to cost. I should add here that he is not a cheap photographer, in fact he is very expensive. Now I don’t mind paying more money for a quality product and quality service, but that is not what we received in working with him. After going back and forth on edits for a few weeks (again, long del
