We had our barn wedding at William Allen Farm and the wedding was absolutely beautiful. Of note, the ownership changed over in 2020 or so and is now under Kate Samson. Kate and her family are wonderful to work with and was always available and communicative throughout the planning process. You get the barn for the entire weekend- so we had our rehearsal dinner on site as well and we utilized the bridal suite for hair and makeup all day on the wedding day. The property is spacious and there are a lot of areas for the ceremony to make it unique. Kate was very flexible with letting us come early on site on Friday to set up and clean up Sunday. We hired their coordinator Ashlea, who exclusively works was WAF, whom I strongly recommend as she was instrumental in advising us where to set up our ceremony, how to set up the tables, etc etc. Of note, Kate offers clean up for an additional fee, which we did not utilize, but you may consider as it really makes things a lot easier. Like all barn weddings, you have to rent and bring everything on site; though for us this meant we got to set it up the way we want and really allow our creative vision to come to life. Overall the barn is gorgeous and beautiful, the property allows for a beautiful ceremony, and Kate is very easy to work with and a wonderful partner in creating your perfect wedding!
When we started planning our wedding we first focused on choosing our venue and we are so incredibly lucky we got to be at the William Allen Farm. The venue is absolutely stunning and Heidi and Al were an absolute pleasure to work with. If we had to plan our wedding 100 times we have it at the William Allen Farm every single time. Heidi and Al, thank you for everything!
My husband and I were guests at a wedding at the William Allen Farm. First, the farm is like something out of a painting. Absolutely beautiful barn and gorgeous grounds. The wedding was perfect. What I wanted to mention especially though was the owner, Al. During the reception, my husband accidentally dropped a very special antique coin and it slipped through the floor boards. He was obviously upset, thinking it was lost forever, but the staff directed him to the owner who immediately marked the spot and said he'd pull up the floor board in the morning. No questions asked. We stopped by the next morning and he had it ready. He said it's not the first time he's had to do the same for various other items that have fallen through. We were so impressed.
The William Allen Farm, Heidi and Al truly are what made our wedding as special as it was. I could not recommend more highly this venue. It is perfect - so beautiful, accomodating for a mixture of indoor/outdoor space, a GREAT bar set up, awesome bridal suite and the BEST hosts you could ever imagine. We were completely in love with the WAF from the minute we pulled up to see it a year before our wedding, and it only became more clear this was the spot for us after doing a tour with Heidi. She went above and beyond to make our wedding special - to accomodate us for all the little details and extras that we needed, helped with vendors, etc. Absolutely in love with this place!
Having our wedding at William Allen Farm was an absolute dream. The barn and property have such a unique character and offer so much: the cozy bridal suite, nice real bathrooms, indoor/outdoor bar, catering deck, loft for our photo booth, and beautiful pond which we had our ceremony next to. We had almost 200 guests and it still felt very spacious because of the different places people could gather inside and outside of the barn. Our guests were so impressed with the venue and the beauty of the property. A huge thanks to Heidi for being so caring and helpful during the planning process. She led me to some of the best vendors in Maine and always had helpful answers to my questions. If you're interested book quickly and you wont be disappointed :)
My daughter (I'm the Father of the Bride) held her wedding and reception at the William Allen Farm. I cannot speak more positively about the facilities, or about Heidi and Al. The setting is perfect . . . a genuine old barn which dresses up very nicely . . . with a cool bar area and a nice loft, all surrounded by a pond and beautiful grounds. And Heidi and Al were terrific . . . there when you needed them, hidden when you did not. They are genuinely nice people. And because they only host one event in a weekend, we were not rushed. We were able to start setting up on Thursday (our choice, not something we had to do) and chose to have our rehearsal dinner ( a lobster bake) there on the Friday evening before. And we could go back on our own time Sunday morning to finish clearing out, leaving the wedding day free for the main event. We visited many barn venues. Looking back, the William Allen Farm was clearly the obvious and right choice.
My husband and I got married at William Allen Farm this summer and could not have asked for a better experience. The owners of the farm, Heidi and Al, are just lovely! They went out of their way to make us feel at home and were responsive and informative during our 1.5 years of wedding planning. Our wedding was forecasted to be especially hot and humid so Heidi and Al picked up 3 industrial fans to cool our guests off in the barn (thank you!) The venue is spacious and well kept and there are no bugs to speak of. We had 120 guests and plenty of room in the barn for mingling, eating, and dancing. If I had to do it all over again, I would book William Allen Farm in a heartbeat!
Our dream wedding day came true at William Allen Farm. Heidi and Al truly have the most beautiful event space with William Allen Farm, and were so supportive through the entire process of planning start to finish. Even with the barn being as beautiful of a space as it is, Heidi welcomed many different ideas in order to help us make the barn our own unique wedding space. By the time our wedding day came around, she felt like family, and this barn will always be an extremely special place to us. You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful event space, or two better people to help you plan your wedding or event. We are forever thankful that we had the opportunity to spend our special day at William Allen.
The William Allen Farm was extraordinary. The grounds are obviously well taken care of with impeccable grass, and beautiful gardens scattered throughout. The pond was the perfect setting for our late afternoon wedding ceremony, and the barn itself is the quintessential New England barn that worked wonderfully for our dinner and reception. The bridal suite was beautiful, tranquil, and perfectly set up to accommodate hair and makeup, and the balcony in the barn was the ideal hangout for the groomsmen before the wedding. Thank you for everything, it couldn't have been better!
The William Allen Farm was the most wonderful venue for our ceremony and reception a few weeks ago. Heidi is extremely professional and her knowledge of local vendors was so helpful in the planning of our event. The grounds are gorgeous and provided excellent opportunities for photos with the bridal party. In addition, the bridal salon that is available for the bridal party was so cute and it was the perfect spot for all of my bridesmaids to get ready. It also has plenty of counter space and massive mirrors for any hair or makeup artists to work. Another really important aspect for us was that the William Allen Farm had indoor plumbing. Many barns in the southern Maine area require you to rent toilets, but having indoor plumbing on site was really helpful. Again, Heidi made our experience so easy and enjoyable. I would highly recommend the William Allen Farm for anyone who is looking for a venue that not only provides a beautiful space, but also a venue that provides exceptional service.
The William Allen Farm was an absolutely stunning place to have my wedding! The barn and property are gorgeous, and Heidi was very helpful with the millions of questions I threw her way. My family did a lot of the decorations ourselves, and she let us visit the property frequently to take measurements, etc. They delivered on everything they promised, and we were thrilled with how everything turned out!
Wedding June 24th 2017, 92 guests
William Allen Farm is THE PERFECT barn wedding venue! My now husband and I looked at what seemed like every barn venue in New England. Many were beautiful, but they all had their quirks. No bathrooms (have to rent a port-o-potty), in the middle of nowhere, limited accommodations, no restaurants, lots of rules, etc.
William Allen is only 15 min from downtown Freeport, ME there are plenty of great hotels and B&Bs to choose from. Freeport has shopping and lots of restaurants for your out of town guests. It’s close to Portland and close to Maine beaches. It’s also very easy to get to!
The venue itself is so well done. We visited in January with 4ft of snow on the ground and after meeting the owners Heidi & Al we knew it was our venue! The amount of thought, planning and pride that this family has put into their home/venue is obvious from every angle. From the cozy bridal suite, to the hidden gravel- lighted parking area, everything is designed to improve the guest experience.
Since the time we visited the venue to our wedding day, there were many improvements/ upgrades. The built in bar that is accessible from both outside & inside was a favorite for us. They also added a deck so that the catering tent is out of the way and off the ground. They installed a business sign out-front and added a classic stone walkway in the front of the barn. The day before our wedding and even the morning of, Heidi & Al were both working non-stop to make sure the property was flawless. It’s clear they are continually working to enhance their already welcoming & accommodating property.
Another reason we choose this venue was because of Heidi & Al. A DIY wedding venue is a big undertaking especially for a couple that is not using a full-planning service. Heidi & Al are both so calm, easy to talk to and genuinely kind. When the chaos and craziness of your wedding hits you, these are the kind of people you want surrounding you and your family! Throughout the entire planning process (we had a 1.5yr engagement) Heidi was quick to reply to my questions, honest in her recommendations and overall so easy to work with.
We cannot say enough good things about Heidi, Al and William Allen Farm. Our wedding venue was truly the perfect setting for our Maine wedding and the pictures we have from the day are breathtaking. This venue is well planned, well-executed and clearly a passion for the owners.
We recently had our daughter's wedding at the William Allen Farm in Pownal, ME. The owners, Heidi and Al, made everything perfect! The grounds were pristine, the barn was fabulous, a separate bridal suite and two convenient bathrooms (NOT portable!) added to the total package. Best of all, Heidi's continuous support and encouragement when I would panic as I planned my daughter's wedding was priceless.
It's a great location, easy access to Freeport and the Interstate or Route 1, and beautiful views from every point at the barn. I would easily recommend the William Allen Farm in Pownal for any type of event!
The William Allen Farm is a beautiful rustic barn venue that lends itself to an expansive floor plan, sweeping farm lands, a pond, and wooded areas. It's close to Portland and Freeport shopping as well, the perfect place to host your Maine wedding. The owners are as kind as the barn is beautiful, couldn't have asked for a better experience.
