I honestly could not have wished for a better wedding venue than Willowfield Lavender Farm. Kieran and Libbe are such wonderful people and went above and beyond to make sure that our day was so special. And it didn't hurt that their farm and home are just stunningly gorgeous.
I cannot say how much I love this venue and the owners Kieran and Libbe O'Connor!! They are honestly like my husband and my 3rd family. You will not meet anybody nicer and more helpful than these two! Our wedding was TRULY a fairy tale event and my only regret was that I didn't have longer to spend there!
The venue is truly beautiful, it was one of the more expensive venues we looked at, but each time we visited we knew that we made the right decision. It is $4000 plus taxes, but what they do that other vendors don't do is let you have the place for 5-7 days, to set up and tear down at your time. This helped TREMENDOUSLY as I did all of the decorations myself, and setting it all up with my crew of friends and bridal party took at least 3 days! I promise you if you go with this venue, you will NOT be disappointed. Not only will you be gaining a truly unique and awesome venue, but you will be gaining new family as well!!!
We were so excited to find such a wonderful place to have our wedding!! The O'Connors helped make our wedding day unforgettable.
First, a disclaimer. I was not the bride. My best friend from elementary school was. I was the "undercover bridesmaid" which is what happens when a good part of the wedding party has already celebrated their 50th birthdays. (But very recently, though!) I was compelled to write a review of the Willowfield Lavender Farm as the place pretty much singlehandedly pulled my wonderful friend back from the brink of wedding insanity.
We, together, visited many venues. The budget was not huge, and this knocked a lot of places out of the running before we got around to a second question. Frustration grew, as my friend has excellent taste and was not about to settle for anything mundane and without character. My time allotted for venue visits ran out, and she and hubby-to-be continued the search without me. My fingers were crossed that they could come up with a place that met very high expectations but also came in at a price that didn't make them double over with laughter. I wish I could say that I was more hopeful than I was.
The next day Bride calls me. I see the caller ID and get my best consoling voice ready. Instead, I hear someone so happy and so looking forward again to her wedding day that I knew she had found the perfect place. And indeed she had. She had found the Willowfield Lavender Farm and it truly did turn out to be just perfect. She told me over the phone that day about how beautiful the property is, how charming the facilities are, and, above all, how absolutely wonderful the owners are and how well she got along with them. She had chosen her place and the search could stop.
She visited a few more times before the wedding day, each time calling me and telling me how much more she loved the place and how perfect it was. She loved dealing with Kieran and Libby O'Connor, the owners, as they cared as much as she did that her wedding turn out just the way she wanted it. As most with creative minds and high standards, my friend would sometimes get ever so slightly stressed, and Libby and Kieran would bring her back down to earth with heartfelt assurances and a good dose of humor. Even before I met them, I knew my friend was in good hands and we could all relax.
Her beautiful October wedding day dawned clear and blue and crisp and cool and just perfect. The lavender farm and facilities were just as beautiful as described if not more so. Bride and Hubby were married on the steps of the O'Connor's house as the rest of us gathered in the yard. There were about 50 people present, which can be an awkward size for some venues. This just felt right. The flowers were beautiful, the food fantastic, and the entire ambiance just what the bride had ordered. Beautiful and polished without taking the first step toward fussy.
So, that is my "undercover bridesmaid" review. In a nutshell, I would say that this is a truly unique place with extremely helpful and friendly owners. The feedback from the guests confirmed this many times over. We heard many express surprise that such a beautiful area was hiding in Mooresville, Indiana and that they were planning a trip back with their families in the near future.
It's been a week, my friend is still happily married, and a lot of the good karma started with the discovery of the Willowfield Lavender Farm!
My husband and I recently had our autumn wedding at Willowfield Lavender Farm. If someone could have taken the vision I had for our wedding and put it in real life, they would literally have come up with the Lavender Farm. It is one of the most gorgeous places in all of Indiana, and the O'Connors are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. I didn't even bother looking at other places because the Lavender farm had everything I had ever envisioned. We planned our entire wedding in less than 5 weeks, and they were right there with us- offering us advice on tent companies and set up, helping us with the vision for the ceremony and reception, meeting with our DJ before to make sure the connection would be perfect, etc. The bridal suite is fantastic- plenty of space for all of my bridesmaids and female family members to get ready in before the wedding. They even helped me cover up the windows in the Lavender Shop so my husband and his groomsmen could get ready in a separate building from me! The days leading up to the wedding were busy, but the O'Connors were so helpful! It had turned chilly, so they bought a few firepits to put around for our rehearsal dinner. (With living out of state, we had a bunch of my husband's family in from out of town, so we had both sides of our family all come together- about 50 or so people- so they could all get to know each other.) They helped us set things up the day before and let us leave things until the next day to tear down, which was a blessing to my family. Even though the day of our wedding ended up being a bitter 40 degrees, everyone came bundled up and ready for a great time. We had our ceremony in the gazebo and our reception in between the two larger lavender fields. It was so nice not to have to travel from the ceremony to the reception - everything anyone needed was right there, and it was all so beautiful! Libbe even went around and cut all the fresh lavender from the fields, wrapped it up, and gave it to me to have in remembrance of our wedding day. (And, an added plus- the whole place smelled WONDERFUL all the time!) Our guests have continued to tell us what a unique and special wedding we had, and we know that Willowfield was the keystone to all of it. We made family friends with the O'Connors- you will love them! We wouldn't have asked for a more perfect wedding day!
...was deciding to have it at Willowfield.
We had hoped to find a secular venue whose natural beauty would set the tone for the day; where we could luxuriate in the occasion without worrying about other events happening in parallel; and where the proprietors would let us celebrate what mattered most to us on every level (food, music, and attendees).
I grew up in central Indiana, but we were living in Seattle at the time, and planning a wedding remotely came with a significant set of challenges. When Google surfaced an organic lavender farm outside of Indianapolis, I emailed the owners.
We were able to stop by the farm in December while visiting family for the holidays, and though the fields were barren and muddy, Libbe and Kie's warmth helped us make the right decision before we left that day. We didn't even bother visiting other places; this was the one for us.
Through the O'Connors' kindness and local connections, we secured an amazing caterer (Ruth Clark of Southport Presbyterian Church), and the other pieces gradually fell into place. The days surrounding our wedding were full of love, generosity, and LAVENDER. We made corsages, boutonnières, and my corsage with freshly picked sprigs, and we gave away lavender shortbread as favors.
The weather was extremely hot, but we rented a tent and umbrellas to provide some shade. We set up lawn games between the fields of lavender, but for the most part people sat, talked, sipped, and nibbled a delicious apéro. The ceremony was on one side of the property and the reception on the other; Ruth set up a dinner buffet inside. We ran off at around sunset.
Our guests, some of whom were probably apprehensive about the lack of structure compared to a church wedding/banquet hall reception combo, were effusive in letting us know how special the day was to them. Naturally, it was to us, too!
We made an exceptional connection with the O'Connors and hope that other couples are able to have the wedding they've imagined, too. For us, it couldn't have been the same anywhere else.
