The venue is appealing but the experience was not worth it. What was meant to be one of the most special and memorable days of our lives turned into a stressful and exhausting expe...
rience due to a series of preventable issues and a complete lack of on-site support from their team.
Upon arrival, the overall condition of the property was poor. The trash was overflowing and ransacked by rodents. The guest house hot water wasn't working, outdoor speakers/lighting wasn't working, the seating was set up incorrectly, many things were broken, there was glass in the walkway, and the grass in the ceremony area was overgrown.
We reached out to Wind and Sea for their "on-site" support and nobody received no response. We spent the morning of our wedding cleaning up their mess and trying to fix things, which left us physically and emotionally exhausted. Someone had finally arrived who said they worked for W&S at 5pm on our wedding day, but it was already too late.
Wind and Sea FINALLY texted me back at 4am the morning of check out (see screenshot), which at that point, was an insult. Overall, the condition of the venue, the lack of communication, and the absence of any on-site support made what should have been the best day of our lives unnecessarily stressful and disappointing.
We had our DREAM wedding here. They were kind, helpful, and accommodating. The view alone is beyond anything that photos can do justice. If you are considering Wind & Sea as a wedd...
ing venue, just do it. You will not regret it.
Wind and Sea was the most beautiful and special place to get married. We had 15 total guests and 11 staying in the house. The house was very nice, views were incredible, and the st...
aff did a great job. I will say communication when booking took a little longer than I would like but it was all worth it. They also had great vendor recommendations that were very familiar with the venue. I would get married here again and again. It was perfect. I hope to come back!
Do not risk getting married here. When highway one was shut down on both sides of the venue I asked if I would get refunded if I was unable to get to the venue. I was told no, it’s...
not their fault I wouldn’t be able to make it in. Luckily, the state road opened highway one up a couple weeks before my wedding but I was very stressed months before my wedding. That would have been about $30,000 down the drain with 0 refund. The staff that responds to your emailed questions have never actually been to the venue and take up to a month to respond, sometimes calling you the wrong name. If you do decide to get married here make sure to get Wiley’s number, he’s the estate manager that lives by the property and he is very helpful. I hope they pay him well because he was the only staff member that answered my questions and he was the only one that set up the venue. I saw where the state of California is trying to not allow the Wind and Sea to host weddings anymore and make it a permanent residence. If that happens and you have a wedding planned there, don’t plan on getting refunded. On a positive note, the venue is absolutely beautiful and the drive in along highway one is stunning.
Y'all. This is probably the most beautiful place I've ever seen. We came from across the country with 35 of our friends/family and every single one of them has told me this is the ...
most beautiful wedding they ever went to. There are so many beautiful spots on this property that your only issue will be choosing where to have your ceremony. The staff was very accommodating and helped us set up and tear down. You will not go wrong booking this place!
My experience working with Wind & Sea was all positive. Natalie responded in a timely manner to emails and clarified any questions I had throughout the time booking. She sent over ...
three very helpful videos of the property. One showed us the grounds of the property, one was the venue, and the other was the rentals that were included. These videos were very helpful for me and why I booked with them. I’m from Florida so making a trip out to California just to see the venue would have been difficult. We ended up having to cancel our wedding out there but we felt like we spent time out there just with all the photos and videos. We think Wind & Sea is beautiful and would recommend this property to anyone looking to have their intimate wedding in Big Sur.
My husband and I were married at Wind and Sea on 4.24.21 and it was nothing short of perfect for our intimate wedding of 40! We were originally a Covid wedding couple that had plan...
s to marry October 2020 elsewhere, but due to the pandemic decided to postpone until it was safe again for a smaller group in 2021. We had always wanted to get married in Big Sur as we are from the area and shared a lot of memories together, however due to our original guest size we wouldn’t have afforded it. Thankfully with having to reduce our numbers, we had the opportunity to choose this incredible venue as our wedding destination. We were so happy with every ounce of help from Nataly and Chris while planning. Nataly responded to all of my questions in a timely manner and Chris was exceptional with laying out all the details we needed for our wedding day. He even helped set up the day of and made everything go so smoothly for us! We highly recommend Wind and Sea to anyone considering a Big Sur wedding. The grounds, house, and view are a dream and our guests couldn’t stop raving about the beauty of it all. Thank you Nataly and Chris!
The views of Wind and Sea make it worth paying for a bus to drive 70 of your closest friends and family down from Carmel, constantly reminding friends/family that they can’t bring ...
their own cars, and the motion-sickness that took out my groom for an hour the morning of our wedding.
It was absolutely worth it in every way. I had a few friends in advance who were skeptical of showing up at a house and being stranded there for 6-7 more hours for the wedding and reception, but everyone made the same face when they walked in - absolute shock and awe. The seals barked in the background well into the evening, and you could hear the waves crashing from the lower fire pit when everyone sat in happy reverence for a second. We used the copper bathtubs as coolers and let our guests stroll around the entire beautiful property with fork-friendly food stations set up both upstairs and downstairs.
Chris (the on-site venue coordinator) was extremely helpful as we tried to add a speaker to the Sonos sound system during the morning of our wedding (spoiler alert: that didn’t work), but everyone gave it their best shot. Chris came around as we were all cleaning at the end of the night and helped us figure out what needed to be put away before the next guests and what flowers we could leave as a treat.
NOTE: We didn’t plan this well in advance since we hadn’t noticed, but the site is not friendly for people who have issues walking on uneven surfaces (i.e. older guests, small children, etc.) My nephew ran off the beaten path and was telling us how great the beach is (a beach 200+ stairs away), and it kept quite a few of us on high alert the rest of the evening. Also, my great uncle couldn’t make the stairs down to the lower ceremony site and watched from the upper patio. It all worked out fine, but I felt like we personally didn’t consider it enough in advance. This is absolutely nothing against Wind & Sea, but I wanted to communicate it to anyone else who feels like there is a risk.
