Windmill Island exceeded our expectations for our wedding venue! The gardens were gorgeous. The venue made for the best scenery for pictures. The ceremony and receptions spaces were beautiful. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect venue! Our guests loved having access to walk around the island and see the windmill. Overall a perfect venue!
Julia and the Windmill Island Team were amazing to work with. We were blessed to have beautiful weather and an amazing reception on Windmill Island!
This venue was beautiful for our big day! We love that our guests had the opportunity to come early for free to roam around if they want to. Minimal decor was needed in the outdoor spaces, especially the ceremony space, because of the flowers all over! Julia was amazing to work with too! She was very helpful, organized, informative, and supportive throughout the wedding process. Lauren, our venue coordinator for the day, was also amazing. We appreciated the A/C in our bridal suite - much needed even at the end of September! The only thing to note is the lack of A/C in the groom’s suite. It’s a small thing in the grand scheme of things. All the great things outweighed this. Overall, we highly recommend Windmill for any future events like weddings!
Any questions?
Windmill Island contracted the event building (Clear Heights Construction of Grandville, MI) over 15 years ago, and they continue to maintain this facility with as much care as their gardens. An absolutely stunning venue!
This venue was SO beautiful! We got compliments the entire night. Guests got to walk around before our wedding for free. We had a lot of out of town guests coming, since we are from Wisconsin, so it was the perfect place for them to hangout before the wedding. I couldn't imagine a more perfect day. Julia was so awesome to work with. She communicated with us and helped us through the wedding planning process with whatever we needed. I HIGHLY recommend having your wedding here!
Julia was great to work with. The venue was stunning as always. Our wedding was the absolute perfect day and all of our guests have been telling me how beautiful it was and much they enjoyed being there.

I’m so glad you had the day of your dreams! It was a pleasure to work with you.
Windmill Island Gardens was the most beautiful spot for my spring wedding. The park is already so scenic, not much decorating needs to be done, and it has everything you need right there. They were so easy to work with too. There is dressing rooms onsite, which was so nice too. My husband and I are so happy we went with this venue.

Thank you . It was a pleasure to work with you.
As many couples did, we had to reschedule our wedding due to the pandemic. Eventually we had no other choice but to change venues, and we’re so glad we did! The Windmill Island Gardens was such a wonderful place to get married! The beautiful grounds and windmill were the perfect backdrop. Julia was fantastic to work with - her communication was always prompt and she tirelessly answered my myriad of questions through the planning process. Though not our day-of contact, she popped by to check in that everything was how we planned, which was a very thoughtful touch! Our original venue, and many others we inquired with, charged extra for almost everything. The Windmill Island Gardens includes so many extra amenities that we would have had to pay extra for elsewhere. The gardens are so beautiful that you don’t need many extra decorations. Get married here!
Windmill island was the best place for me to have my wedding. It is beautiful and affordable! The coordinators there were extremely helpful and on top of details. I had no issue planning my wedding here. My guests loved it. I highly recommend.
We were supposed to get married at Windwell Island two years ago but the pandemic started. The venue coordinator was very patient with us and did a good job of collaborating with our other vendors. The venue was absolutely beautiful and did a good job of meeting our needs.
This is a wonderful location to have a wedding with an outdoor ceremony at the gazebo and a semi-indoor reception in the tent! The price is right and the gardens are incredible. Don't look any further than Windmill Island when choosing your wedding venue!
The venu was quite beautiful! The flowers offer the most decoration and provide a great backdrop for photos. The office assistant was not as friendly as I would have hoped. She stood towards the back with a clip board waiting for us to approach her in which was only a hunch that she was the person in charge. The dressing rooms were not very cozy and dressing room did not provide well ventilation. The pipe under the sink in the room was leaking. There are many upgrades needed to the gazebo and tables/chairs. Communication was not the greatest. Grass was longer than most of us would have liked especially when needing to walk through for the ceremony. Tent was beautiful, flowers were beautiful and Windmill Island Garden provided an all together beautiful backdrop for a venu. If your looking for great detail, well maintained grounds and upgraded/well maintained facility. This would not be the place. All in all we had a wonderful experience.
Working with Windmill Island for our wedding reception was great! We had our ceremony elsewhere but had our reception here. Julia was great in communicating with us in a timely manner. She set up our floor plan for us and it worked out perfectly.
There are a handful of preferred vendors for catering, there were great options and we were very happy with what we chose.
One somewhat different thing was that alcohol wasn’t able to be served until the park closed at 6:00 PM. We were still able to start our cocktail hour at 5:00 PM just with non-alcoholic beverages. It didn’t seem to be an issue at all as it was hot, so people loved having water and lemonade!
I loved having the sides open on the tent as it made the space feel so much bigger and allowed the breeze to come through. We also had yard games out on the lawn for those who didn’t want to dance.
Our guests loved roaming the island and taking pictures everywhere.
I would definitely recommend Windmill Island as a reception venue.
I had my wedding here on 7/10/2022 Best place in holland to have a wedding i loved it, great places for pictures, absolutly beautiful.
Windmill Island was the perfect place for our wedding! Julia and her staff were so helpful. Any questions were answered timely and thoroughly, they were always kind, and went above and beyond for us. Highly recommended! The grounds were beautiful and everything went great!
Julia was overall very helpful and made the process easy. Kellie was our day of contact and she did amazing with everything. The office manager and booth operator were very rude to myself and our guests but overall it was a beautiful location for a great day.
Beautiful venue! Our wedding was fabulous! Loved that the ceremony was right next to reception tent. The guests could walk around freely and explore the grounds. The people at the venue were great and easy to work with. The kids loved the carousel! The only thing I would suggest is maybe having a key pad on the bride and groom room instead of having a key to worry about/hold onto.
We got married at this venue this past weekend and everyone raved about how gorgeous this venue was! The perfect outdoor wedding with the places to get ready, ceremony, pictures, and the reception all at the same place which really helps the logistics of it all. So happy with it!
We had our wedding in May 2019, the WEEK after tulip time. We were the first couple of the season. It was AWESOME! Julia always got back to me promptly with any questions that I had. Chairs and everything was set up morning of with no issues. The island was beautiful! We even forgot a few things there after the wedding and the staff held onto it and got a hold of me immediately to make sure we got our things back. Couldn’t have asked for a better venue!

Thank you Brooke, it was a pleasure working with you!
What an awesome venue! We had an amazing time and the amenities were just what we expected. The gardens were beautiful and our guests had a great time exploring after dark. We had ~180 people and everything fit perfectly. Julia and our day of coordinator were so helpful and communicative throughout the whole process. The bride's room was nice for getting ready, but the grooms room was a bit small.
We had our daughter’s wedding at Windmill Island in August. She picked it because of the beautiful outdoor setting, and the fact that the ceremony and reception were in one place (lots of out of town guests). The service we had from Julia and Alyssa was perfect (Alyssa was even offering to do things I hadn’t even thought of, which was great!). The vendors we had to choose from were also top notch. The guests enjoyed being at the park, the gardens were beautiful, and how fun to have an authentic windmill as a backdrop! Talking to my daughter after they got back from their honeymoon and having her say “It was exactly what I wanted” was the icing on the cake so to speak!
It was such an amazing and unique venue to get married at. Julia was so wonderful to work with! Everyone had a great time and the guests absolutely loved how unique the venue was.
My husband and I had an excellent experience working with this beautiful venue. Julia and her team were very helpful and easy to work with. On the day of the wedding and even at the rehearsal, staff were easy to find and quick to help.
Julia, along with her entire staff, were wonderful through out the entire wedding process. The day of the wedding the grounds were beautiful and everyone was very helpful and accommodating to all our needs and desires.
Thank you Windmill Island for making our day spectacular.
We had out ceremony and reception at Windmill Island and it was a dream come true! The area is so beautiful and there are so many places for picture perfect opportunities! It really helped with planning our wedding keeping everything at one location and our guests loved that they could walk around the grounds and take their own pictures as well! Julia was great to work with! She answered all of my questions and met all of my requests! My wedding was beautiful and perfect and I would very highly recommend checking Windmill Island out for a wedding or any other event! They did an amazing job there and made me a calm/happy bride! :)
We absolutely LOVED Windmill Island! We got married in late May and the flowers were gorgeous. Julia was helpful and willing to answer all of my questions. Definitely a great venue if you're looking for something outside and still close to other things in the city!
Could not have pictured getting married anywhere else! Windmill Island has so many great photo opportunities and our guests raved about the scenic atmosphere. The wedding coordinator, Julia, is a delight to work with and will help with anything you need. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
This venue is an absolute dream! It's spacious, and down right gorgeous!! The staff are friendly, accommodating and very thorough! Book your wedding now, you certainly will not regret it!
The venue offers the best of both worlds - indoor reception and outdoor ceremony. The gardens are beautiful and provide the perfect backdrop for your wedding or event. My guests complimented on the location and had no idea the island had so much to offer! I would highly recommend Windmill Island Gardens
Julia and the team at Windmill Island Gardens were amazing! We were very happy that we could have a beautiful ceremony and an awesome reception all at one location. The gardens were lovely and full of flowers. They were flexible on making changes leading up to our wedding, and everything the day of was set up as expected. We really felt like we had the perfect day!

It was truly our pleasure to serve you and make your wedding day perfect!
Everything about Windmill Island Gardens was perfect. We had our wedding there this past July and everything was perfect. We had to last minute add some more chairs for the ceremony and they got it done. They were so accommodating and easy to work with. They give you plenty of time on the day of your wedding to get ready and to helo make your day as stress free as possible. Not only was their faculty amazing, the gardens are just beautiful. Your guests will have a great time being able to walk around the gardens if they choose to. We also had yard games set up and that worked out great! I highly recommend using Windmill Island as your wedding ceremony and reception venue.
Everything was beautiful! We brought in minimal decorations because the venue is already so full of flowers during the summer. They were easy to work with. Only frustration was with the limits on the vendors you could use but it worked out!
Hey had our wedding at Windmill Island in August. The gardens were absolutely beautiful, basically everywhere you turned was an excellent backdrop for photographs. The ceremony was perfect with the De Zwaan in background and surrounded by perennial gardens in full bloom! Our guests said it was the most gorgeous venue they've ever been to, and everyone loved being able to wander around the island! Paired with Beechwood's food truck, it made for a perfect outdoor wedding. We highly recommend to other couple's looking for a unique and memorable venue.
Hi there! If you are reading this that means you are probably considering having your wedding at windmill island! My advice is DO IT! You will not regret it! I had My wedding reception at Windmill Island this July and loved every minute of it! The Gardens were SO beautiful! You don't even need any decorations because the beauty from the flowers is enough! The outdoor/indoor venue is perfect because you cant predict michigan weather! The tent is huge and accomidates plenty of people we had 250 comfortably!! They allow you to come early and stay late and really work with you to make your day special and add all the touches that you wan to be there! It is the perfect scenery for pictures and a fun night out for guests to roam around and enjoy a special site! Julia is so friendly and kind and will answer all your questions promtly, meet with you as many times as you need and support you through the entire process! The bride and groom room are super fun to get ready in and air conditioned! There are many acitivites for children on the island and also room in the lawn any extra touches you may want!! I could continue to go on and on about the greatness of the venue and the helpful staff! Definetly check this place out in person! It will make for a beautiful wedding day!
We used Windmill Island for the ceremony & reception site. I loved the flower gardens surrounding the gazebo & lining the walls, they were beautiful. If comparing it to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island the beds are not quite as manicured. Julia was helpful but overlooked the fact that we requested the carousel time which I was very bummed about because we had guests with children asking us why the carousel wasn’t open (we had made an announcement after the wedding that it would be available). I loved the fact that we had very little decorating to do in the reception tent! The white drapery & colored lights sold me quickly!! Julia did say the property would be making upgrades! Air-conditioning & a bathroom in the groom’s quarters would be a bonus...and some air-conditioning in the tent would be stellar. Overall we as well as our guests were delighted!
We loved having our wedding at Windmill Island Gardens! It is so beautiful and there are so many flowers that you don't need a lot of decoration. We had our ceremony there as well and the gazebo area for that is surrounded by flowers. There are so many pretty locations for wedding pictures in the garden area and some really unique spots like the windmill and carousel. Julia did a great job communicating with us to make sure everything was set-up the way we wanted it. Allison was our day of event coordinator and she did a wonderful job keeping us informed and checking-in to make sure we were all set throughout the day. The bridal suite on-site is very nice looking and it is air conditioned which was great for our bridal party throughout the day because our wedding day was HOT! We also had some awesome wedding vendors, many of which were recommended by Windmill Island Gardens.
We were very happy with our choice to get married at Windmill Island Gardens! We ended up having beautiful weather in May and all of our guests enjoyed walking around the grounds in between the ceremony and reception. We were very sad that Margaret left, as she was a fantastic coordinator and referred us to all of our vendors that we ended up using! There were a couple minor mishaps the morning of the wedding that were not handled as smoothly as we would have liked with the new management, but in the end, we had a beautiful wedding day and wouldn't have changed anything about it! Windmill is a unique wedding venue that helps give guests a new experience!
My wedding at Windmill Island was amazing. It was everything I hooped it would be. Margaret was wonderful to work with. She will make you feel like your the only bride she is working with because she is so good at what she does and cares so much to make your day perfect. I highly recommend Windmill Island the tent was beautiful and our wedding pictures turned out amazing. There are so many places to take pictures. Thank you Windmill Island!
Windmill Island was the most amazing venue for my wedding. We toured once and I instantly knew it was the place. The gardens are stunning and the windmill adds such charm. We heard from a lot of our guests how it was such a beautiful venue. Margaret was seriously the most helpful person ever. She answered every question I had in full detail and even thought of the things I never would have. Day of, she and her team were behind the scenes filling in all the details so I didn't have to worry. I could not have asked for a more wonderful place to have my wedding!
Windmill Island was amazing! We couldn't be more happy with the way our wedding day went! We loved having both wedding a ceremony at the same spot, it so nice for the guests and us so no one had to travel in between. Margaret Tamminga, one of the facility attendants on the grounds was the best to work wit to make sure our day was exactly what we wanted it to be! Our guests even loved the island! They said it was one of of the most beautiful venues they have been to. Since the grounds are so big they could utilize the whole grounds, walk around, go see the windmill hang out inside and outside the tent. Plenty of space and room for your guests to be comfortable! We are so so happy, thank you windmill island for making our day the best ever!
Fantastic wedding venue! We got so many compliments on what a beautiful place it was and we had a great time :) Margaret was a wonderful person to help coordinate everything and I felt comfortable once I saw how detail oriented she was. She answered all of our questions fast even responding late at night. Everything went very smooth on the big day and I would definitely recommend this venue to anyone who asked!!
Windmill Island Gardens venue and staff were incredible! Margaret was on top of every detail to help guide us through the planning process as well as being there the day of to make sure everything was perfect! All of our guests complimented the beautiful accommodations. We could not have asked for a better place for our wedding!
We had a wedding ceremony and reception at Windmill Island Gardens on 09/03/17. After meeting with a few venues, we chose WIG primarily due to the professionalism of Margaret. We could tell from our first meeting that she managed everything in a timely and organized fashion. Our guests absolutely loved the venue and had nothing but compliments after their experience. We highly recommend this venue!
I could not have been happier with having both my wedding and reception at Windmill Island. It was honestly like a fairytale from a storybook- everything I could have dreamed of and more! So many people commented on how beautiful the venue and flowers were. It was the perfect outdoor venue, with the pavilion as backup incase it rained which put my mind at ease. I love that everything was in that one setting- we didn't have to go anywhere else for pictures or anything. I honestly felt like a princess. The staff there is so kind and helpful. It was very convenient to have the bride's and groom's rooms right there onsite to get ready in. My wedding day was everything I ever dreamed it would be, largely because it was at Windmill Island! I can't speak of it highly enough!
We were lucky enough to get married during the Island's peak garden weak! Everyone thought our wedding receptions was one of the most beautiful ones they had ever attended! I loved that we could trust the staff to take care of the set up and take down for us and that we could get ready on site!
We absolutely loved having our reception at Windmill Islands. Margaret, their coordinator was great to work with and ensured that all of our vendors worked together, and that the night ran smoothly! The gardens are gorgeous and the space offers a venue where guests can roam, walk around, play games, or dance the night away. When it got to the day of the wedding we didn't have to worry about anything except for enjoying it all!
We had the perfect wedding at Windmill Island Gardens!! A huge thank you goes out to Margaret and Cheryl, as well as our caterers (Above and Beyond Catering) and DJ Greg Rios for helping everything run smoothly.
The grounds are beautiful and it was the perfect location for an outdoor wedding!! All our family said we had the most beautiful, most fun wedding they had been to yet! I definitely recommend Windmill Island and their professional staff for your big day!
We loved windmill island! Cheryl managed everything during our event and was just amazing. She was a calming influence and helped us pull everything together. Margaret was also great helping us plan everything remotely from London. The venue was so beautiful--really the perfect place to get married. I couldn't imagine getting married anywhere else.
We have received so many compliments and our friends and family are still talking about how amazing our wedding was. Everyone loved being able to explore the gardens, see the windmill, and play lawn games. The tent looked so beautiful with all the decorations and people. I couldn't have imagined a better backdrop than watching the sun set over a historic windmill in a dreamy tent in the gardens.
Margaret and the event staff were so easy to work with, and everything was coordinated very smoothly with the vendors and guests arrivals. Margaret and the staff were accommodating to our wishes and our vision for the big day. Margaret's attention to detail and helpful planning tips along the way were a huge factor in making our day perfect and took a lot of stress off my shoulders during the planning. She was prompt and thorough in our communications, which made planning from a long distance much, much easier. Overall, a huge part our why our day was so special was the location and the people who made it possible at Windmill Island.
Windmill Island was the best possible place for our wedding. My husband and I wanted the outdoor/indoor feel all day long and that's exactly what we got. There are tons of amazing places to take pictures, and the venue size was perfect (180 guests). All of the vendors they recommended were great to work with, and the windmill island staff was always pleasant and helpful. Overall an amazing wedding day!
Windmill Island Gardens was everything that we could have wanted and more in a ceremony and reception venue! The staff were incredibly helpful and kind - information was always readily given and easy to comprehend. Emails and phone calls were always answered promptly and with politeness and respect.
The grounds themselves are beautiful - our wedding was in late September and the gardens were still in full bloom with lots of warm colors. The Island is great for wedding photography with lots of natural woodsy spaces. There is a "Bride's Room" and a "Groom's Room" on site for getting ready. They are not very big (at least it didn't feel very big, but to be fair I had 8 bridesmaids, 2 moms, and 2 photographers crammed in there with me!) but they do have bathrooms, mirrors, and vanities for getting ready and a cool/warm place (temperature controlled) to sit and rest before the ceremony or even during the reception if you want a private moment with your maids.
There is ample parking on site for guests, and our guest enjoyed roaming the Island before the ceremony and during the reception if they needed to cool off from dancing or wanted a moonlit stroll with their date.
Overall, we could not be happier that we chose this venue! And the best of all - the price was so agreeable for everything that came included with it!
We got married at Windmill Island on the last weekend that they are open for the year and it was a great day! Margaret walked us through every detail of the planning starting with layout and she recommended great vendors as well. It poured rain when we entered and Margaret and our day of attendant were there with umbrellas so we could stay dry entering, the inside of the pavilion was perfectly dry. They made sure that our whole day went smoothly and it was awesome! We had 200+ guests seated comfortably with room for a large dance floor and bar/dj etc. We couldn't have asked for a better reception venue or team to help us plan and get through our big day!
I cannot be happier with how our wedding at Windmill Island Gardens turned out. It was absolutely perfect!
Margaret was such a big help with the planning process. She would immediately respond to any questions that I sent over to her and was such a pleasure to work with. Our facility attendant, Cheryl, was also a big help. It was really nice having her there on the day of our wedding to make sure everything ran smoothly.
We received so many compliments on how beautiful the venue was. It was really easy to decorate because everything is surrounded by flowers. Also, the pavilion has fabric draped from the ceiling and uplighting which made our reception absolutely gorgeous and also very unique.
I would not change a thing about our wedding day at Windmill Island Gardens!
I loved my wedding at Windmill Island Gardens. They were perfect and a pleasure to work with. Margaret was very helpful though the whole process. Our out of state guests could not say enough about how beautiful the Island was and what a terrific venue we had chosen. I’m really happy we did our wedding here.
We simply cannot say enough about how amazing Windmill Island Gardens and their staff were for our wedding!
Throughout the whole process, Margaret was nothing but absolutely amazing. We were planning our wedding from Alaska, with a move 4 months before the wedding to Alabama and Margaret was able to completely overcome the distance and worked with us to make our wedding truly spectacular.
The venue itself is gorgeous and creates such a beautiful backdrop, it is any photographers dream setting. We had an evening wedding and were able to take some fantastic sunset shots with the windmill and flowers in the background. The naturally occurring floral beauty of Windmill Island allowed us to also save some money on flower arrangements! Once you see the pictures of the venue you know you just can’t compete! So why try?! We decided to go with simple arrangements that just accented the already breathtaking flowers at the park.
Being a public park we were skeptical of passersby’s and on lookers but in all honesty there were only a few couples with children that stopped to take a picture, and enjoy the ceremony. The grounds are huge and include walking trails, and on the day it didn’t bother us one bit to see people momentarily enjoying our ceremony with us.
Super kid friendly! We had roughly 30 children at our wedding of varying ages, and decided to rent the Carousel. RENT THE CAROUSEL! It was great for the kids, and parents alike who often can’t find things to keep toddlers or younger kids entertained at a wedding. They all loved it! Windmill Island has a kid’s play area too, and open grass they can run and play on.
Margaret and her assistant, Saige, treated us like family and helped in every way possible leading up to the big day, plus the big day itself! Saige coordinated the rehearsal the day prior and discussed and accommodated all our requests. Margaret was on point running the show behind the scenes, and literally thinks of everything! There was not a single question she didn’t have an answer to, or couldn’t find an answer for.
Windmill Island was amazing! From the staff, to the location, to its natural beauty and well-kept grounds it was a dream come true.
Margaret and Saige we could never thank you guys enough!
-Thank you
Great job. Great venue. Beautiful location. They went above and beyond!!
Windmill Island was absolutely gorgeous on my wedding day. It was so nice to be able to have a picture perfect ceremony and reception all at the same location. We did not have rain on our wedding day, but if it had rained we could have had the reception in the pavilion where the reception was. It was nice to have that as a back-up option. We worked with Margaret from Windmill Island, who did an amazing job at helping us make sure we had all the details pinned down perfectly. She was there on the day of the wedding too, as well as Cheryl - another event coordinator at Windmill Island. They made sure everything went smoothly during the rehearsal the night before as well as throughout the whole wedding day. Before and after the ceremony, our guests loved being able to walk around the Island to see the Windmill, flowers, and even horses. It was a HOT day, but once we were in the pavilion for the reception, the ceiling fans along with the breeze helped everyone cool off after the hot ceremony. It was an all around beautiful day and I would absolutely recommend Windmill Island to anyone!
Windmill Island is an amazing venue. They were great to work with and all of my guests said it was the most fun they've had at a wedding. Wedding planning truly was a breeze when the ceremony and reception are all in the same location. We didn't have to go anywhere to take pictures either because there are so many good photo ops in the gardens. I loved the simplicity of having everything in one location - we even got ready in the bride and groom's rooms! The gardens are also convenient because they are so close to downtown that it was easy for all of our out of town guests to find accommodations nearby (even within walking distance!). Working with Margaret was great, she truly cares that your day is special. I can't say I was thrilled to have a new person be the on site coordinator for the day-of but Sage was truly wonderful as well.
I recommend Windmill Island to anyone dreaming of a beautiful outdoor wedding that is easy to plan :-)
We were truly blessed to have our wedding at Windmill Island Gardens. The venue is stunning, it requires little decor because the natural beauty dresses itself. You cannot beat the flowers, windmill, river, gorgeous white pavilion with white streaming fabric, etc. The Bride/Groom room is wonderful, with air conditioning and bathrooms. We worked with Margaret as our wedding coordinator, and she was amazing. She replied to my emails within 24 hours, and if she didn't know the answer to my email she would write me back anyway to let me know that we was working on the problem. Then I would get a second quick response with the answer. I truly appreciated the time that Margaret took to write me back, even if she didn't have an answer. Often as a Bride you are emailing so many people and stressing out... Margaret made sure that I knew what was going on at all times. She worked very hard to take the stress off my shoulders, and she did. My husband and I are very thankful for Margaret, her hard work and loving personality. Between Margaret, the venue, and the beautiful nature that surrounds it, we are incredibly happy with Windmill Island Gardens. We would absolutely change nothing about our big day!
Wish I could add more than five stars!!
I'm not from Holland or Michigan. I live in New York and planned a wedding at Windmill Island for reasons I will not explain here. I worked with Margaret, and all I can say is that I'm speechless. Our wedding was on 5/28/16 and it was more beautiful and more amazing than I could have imagined it. The venue is not only beautiful during the day, but it becomes heavenly when the sun begins to set. If you are looking for an outdoor, casual, fun, playful setting than this is it! It's sweet and colorful....I could keep going. I love this place! Every guest I had was raving about how lovely the venue was. They all kept asking me "How did you find this place!?". The town of Holland itself is so charming and quaint, but this venue is incredible. I have zero regrets having our wedding here. And to top off how amazing the venue is, the staff is also incredible. They provide everything in a set price -- talk about convenient (tables, chairs, wedding attendants, rehearsal, etc). Margaret will work with you throughout your planning on scheduling and logistics, but you will also have a day of attendant who will help with the rehearsal, as well as be there for anything you need on the day of. The entire day was seamless! Not to mention we had a perfect day for weather. I'm still dreaming of our wedding day. I cannot recommend this venue and staff more!
Not being from Holland originally, the first time I visited the Island with my husband (then-fiance) on my birthday in 2014, I fell in love with it. My husband has a strong Dutch heritage so he loved the location. Every step of the way, Alisa and Margaret were wonderful to work with. They helped keep us on track with reminder emails and quick responses to even the most ridiculous questions. They were thorough and organized throughout the entire 14 months that we planned our wedding (Sept. 19, 2015). At our final meeting, we put together a down-to-the-minute general outline of the ceremony and reception. Our master and mistress of ceremonies used it to help keep us on track day-of and we were told later that it was the smoothest-flowing reception people had been to. Our wedding day was a dream come true. The staff day-of were very kind and helpful, retrieving the wedding party and myself when it was time and guiding us through the ceremony. The reception pavilion was a dream. Our wedding colors were sangria and ivory so our reception had a beautiful magenta/purple hue in the draped white ceiling. There was so much room for dancing and a lot of fun. It has decidedly become the "best wedding" on my husband's side of the family, according to several members of my new family. The day was absolutely perfect and more than we ever could have asked for. Thank you, Windmill Island and your amazing staff, for helping make our dreams a reality!

We had our wedding on a Friday evening. Because of this, the cost was less although still somewhat expensive. Overall worth it though. The park closed around 6PM and was ours alone for the ceremony and reception. In case of rain, the ceremony could be held inside the pavilion, a semi-permanent tent, but we chose to have it outside near the gazebo. Staff were quick to grab umbrellas when it started raining during the ceremony. Lots of bathrooms for guests, well-lit at night, with plenty of space for outdoor games in fair weather. Overall a great and memorable day!
Absolutely fabulous venue!! We did all of our pictures here and had ceremony and reception here, so convenient for us, bridal party, photographers and guests to have it all in one place. Absolutely beautiful grounds! Reception building is large and we loved having the doors open for an outdoor/tent feel. Staff is outstanding! They truly care about you and your day and help you stay organized and on schedule so that everything runs smoothly. I can't say enough good things about windmill island gardens! Thank you for making my day perfectly perfect!!
Windmill Island Gardens was the absolute dream location for our wedding! Our guests raved that this was the most beautiful wedding they had been to - all thanks to everything Windmill had to offer. We had both our ceremony & reception here (thankfully a 0% chance of rain!) The staff was very accommodating and attentive to detail/your needs. They are very knowledgeable having hosted many weddings there before, bringing your attention to things you may not have thought of. The main reason I chose this location was for the gorgeous permanent tent - you feel like you are in a fairytale once inside! We had 230 guests and plenty of room for a bar, welcome table, gift table, cake display, slideshow and 2 double-sided buffet lines. Also - your photographer will be in love with all of the shooting spots and options on the grounds - your pictures are guaranteed to be amazing. The only thing that could potentially bother someone is that Windmill is a tourist location - visitors were walking around while we were taking pictures and since our ceremony started at 5:30, tourists technically had until 6 to leave the Island - but, it did not bother us at all since you are so consumed with the wedding day & having googly eyes for your spouse. Bottom line is; if we had to do it all over, my husband and I would not change a thing :)
Windmill Island was a fabulous place for a wedding. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is helpful, timely, organized, and present, and as a bonus, we had a beautiful day. We got so many comments from guests that it was such a beautiful setting for a wedding.
I could not be happier that I chose to have my wedding ceremony/reception at Windmill! The venue is absolutely gorgeous, with beautiful gardens and unique buildings. Not only was the venue amazing, but the value was impeccable. Our guests enjoyed the grounds, the carousel, and the scenery. In addition, the coordinators assisted me throughout the entire planning process, and I was amazed at how organized and helpful they were. Another great bonus was that there was a Day Of Coordinator to help with the logistics of the rehearsal and wedding.
My stress level was greatly reduced thanks to the staff at Windmill. I would highly recommend this gorgeous venue to anyone looking to have an outside wedding!
Windmill Island is a gorgeous venue that compliments many themes, from rustic with a wood fence and horses, or unique escapes with the mini dutch village, or outdoor with the beautiful flowers and landscape, all without the worry of determining a rain plan as the permanent pavilion can keep guests out of inclement weather. Not only does this venue flex to fit multiple styles, but the staff is incredible flexible and interested in helping you making your ideas happen and your day to be one for the books!
I recently had my wedding reception at Windmill Island and was so grateful to have worked with Alisa and her team. Because I live on the East Coast, I had limited time to meet while in town, but they always made it work and were extremely accommodating in letting my mom and the creative team helping with the wedding visit WI multiple times to scope out the area, take measurements, etc. We had quite a bit of setup, with two lounge areas, a fire pit area, a lemonade + water bar, lots of decor, etc., and Alisa was SO helpful in working on the layout with us. She's incredibly calm and thorough, which was very helpful in meetings that included other vendors. The wedding was in late September, and we actually had perfect weather, so don't be afraid of a fall MI wedding. If the weather had not been cooperative, there are rental places that offer heaters that would heat the pavillion (we had this on hold until the week of). I would highly recommend Windmill Island. Windmill Island is a beautiful venue! We had our wedding in the end of August and could not be happier with our venue choice. The gardens were amazing, the reception tent was spacious, and the staff went above and beyond expectation. This venue was a little more expensive than what we had initially wanted to pay but after looking at multiple other venues, we decided that it was well worth the money. I really can't say enough about this place! We had a great wedding there and owe much of that to the professional staff at Windmill Island. Would highly recommend this venue!
My daughter had a vision and the Windmill Island venue and staff made it all possible. They were accommodating and very helpful. It was a beautiful day but even if the weather had not cooperated, I felt very comfortable with their backup plans for an indoor ceremony. Our guests loved the gardens and the "tent" was beautiful. True professionals with a romantic side. :)
Having our wedding ceremony and reception in Windmill Island was one of the best decision we had for our wedding. The grounds and pavilion looked fantastic. Having both our families flying from
outside of Holland and outside of US, this venue was perfect. The guests loved the place.
Alisa and her staff were fantastic. Alisa helped us from the very beginning and gave us tips and reminders before the wedding.
I would highly recommend this venue for a wedding.
My husband and I chose to have our wedding reception at Windmill Island this past August. We could not have been more pleased with how it turned out! The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, filled with flowers and greenery. Our guests could not stop raving about how classy and beautiful it was. I was looking for a venue that was unique and different than a normal "country club" reception, yet still providing space for a dance floor, dj, and 200+ guests. It was a perfect balance and all of my guests were so pleased with the venue as well. Alisa was very easy and organized to work with!! The colourful tent lighting during the dancing was also a fun addition. Being able to have an outdoor reception (smoke cigars outside the tent, have guests explore the grounds, take pictures near the gorgeous landscaping) and yet be covered by a permanent tent in case of poor weather was such a bonus. Another positive is the venue is close to dt holland providing your guests an option of bars or hotels following your wedding. One small warning, you are in charge of choosing your vendors and coordinating them with Windmill Island. Although, Alisa is very helpful, providing you with a list of recommended vendors and helping with day of coordination. I also liked the idea of choosing my own vendors as it allows you to make your wedding unique and personal! I would recommend this venue to anyone in a heartbeat!
I recently was lucky enough to get married at Windmill Island in May 2014 and I could not have asked for a better place! We knew when we began searching for venues we wanted something outdoors (risky, I know, but-bonus-Windmill Island has a great plan B if the weather doesn't cooperate). We found Windmill Island by searching online and as soon as we visited and met with Alisa we knew we had found the place. Alisa and the obvious beauty of the grounds were what sold us. Alisa is going to be your favorite person if you book here - she keeps you on track and organized (even sending a reminder 'to do' list a few months before the wedding which I really appreciated)!
On the day of the wedding (and even still after) our guests could not stop talking about how beautiful the tulips were and loved being able to walk around and take pictures. The pavilion was perfect and gave that perfect outdoor, garden party feel we were going for. HIGHLY recommend this venue for both wedding ceremony and reception-it will be no stress for you (Alisa will be sure of that) and your guests will rave about it!!!
Windmill Island is amazing venue if you want something a little different. Our guest loved that they could walk around the grounds. Its was not like your typical wedding. The staff was great! Every part of my day was so great! I would highly recommend Windmill Island to anyone getting married. Windmill Island will hold a special place in our hearts forever. We plan on visiting often
Windmill Island is a great place to get married. They take care of the chairs and tables, and you already have the gazebo and the pavilion there which is all beautiful. Alisa is wonderful to work with; she works with you to understand what you want and help you achieve it. As an out of town bride, finding Windmill Island and Alisa were key to my low-wedding stress.
The only reason I gave 4 stars for service was because the day-of coordinator called me a different name during the entire rehearsal, was fairly bossy even though the minister had the rehearsal under control....the big thing though was on my wedding day a tourist on the island decided to photograph my entire wedding, and she didn't say anything to him and his wife until the entire ceremony was done and then acted like I should thank her...fairly annoying. Now its a funny story about how I had a second photographer, who was a little old man and his wife. I would still highly recommend as I said above...just something to keep in mind.
Windmill Island surpassed all of our expectations. The grounds were beautiful. The pavilion was perfect. The staff was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. Our guests were able to walk around the island and enjoy the lovely gardens and windmill at their leisure. The setting sun behind the windmill made for fabulous pictures. It was perfect.
Windmill Island Gardens was the perfect place to have our Labor Day weekend wedding! We had both our ceremony and reception there, which was so nice and easy for us and our guests. The staff are very experienced, knowledgeable, and great to work with. They helped us with the planning and execution. The grounds are beautiful and well kept, we could not have asked for a better setting. I would highly recommend this venue as a place to celebrate your wedding day! Many thanks to them for such an amazing day/night!
We had our ceremony and reception here. Everything was beautiful! We worked with Alisa leading up to the wedding. She was professional, patient, and kind. We really enjoyed working with her. All of our guests raved about how beautiful the gardens were. Highly recommend.
I had my wedding here on August 10, 2013. Alisa, the wedding coordinator, was perfect to work with. She answered all 1,000 questions I had. They made my dream become a reality!
When I visited Windmill Island for when searching for wedding venues I knew right away that this was the place. The staff was so incredibly knowledgeable and helpful from the very beginning of the planning process.
We got married on May 18th and the Tulips were in full bloom! Couldn't have asked for a better day. Our guest still keep commenting on how beautiful the grounds were.
We had our reception at Windmill Island on August 3rd and it was perfect! Such a great outdoor venue! Alisa did a fabulous job of helping us prepare. She thought of things we had totally over looked!
The price was amazing! We couldn't have found a better place for a more reasonable price.
The photographer had so many great backgrounds to work with and sunset was in perfect view.
There was enough space for yard games for the cocktail hour and reception.
The vendors they partner with are fabulous. We worked with Hope College's Creative Dinning for food and D. Schuler's for drinks.
We received compliments all night about how beautiful the reception was and are still receiving compliments.
Thank you to the staff at Windmill Island! You made a our big day perfect!
Windmill Island was EXACTLY what we were looking for when planning our wedding and the day went off without a hitch! Everything was set up and ready for our ceremony and went according to our plan, after an easy rehearsal the night before. 2 weeks prior to our wedding, we sat down with our coordinator from Windmill Island to map and plan out the event. The meeting was VERY thorough and made both myself and my parents feel at ease and very pleased with our decision to have the wedding at Windmill Island.
The layout of Windmill Island was such a treat to our guests, as they played games on the lawn during cocktail hour, walked around the grounds and over to the Windmill and overall just enjoyed the beauty of the place. I would HIGHLY recommend Windmill Island to anyone who is looking for a summer Michigan outdoor wedding.
Wonderful!
Where do I begin, everything was perfect. This event was the highlight of our life. We really did not have to worry about anything. The gardens and windmill were a perfect background for pictures. The gazebo ideal for the wedding ceremony. Alisa, the wedding coordinator, was very helpful giving us many suggestions to make the wedding run smoothly. She gave us tips on what would make our guests comfortable. Sheryl the wedding supervisor was amazing also, very calm and helpful. The tent looked wonderful, Hope College catering had everything set up and decorated just as we had hoped for. At the end of the evening everyone had smiles on their faces. We never had to worry about set up or clean up. We could not have picked a better venue.
The brides room was very nice, it was great to have a spot to hang out. My only complaint would be a hook to hang the wedding dress with a long train. The grooms room was not air conditioned, it was cool the day of the wedding and it was still stuffy in the grooms room.
The venue was perfect for bride and dad to arrive in a horse and carriage for the dramatic entrance. The bride and groom jumped in the carriage after the wedding ceremony and had a private ride around the windmill, also another great photo moment. The outdoor wedding was beautiful with the windmill in the background.
Plenty of parking. Our guests loved the idea of having everything in one spot and not having to travel or wait between wedding and reception.
I am so pleased we decided to have our daughters wedding at Windmill Island.
Having my wedding at Windmill was so amazing. It was amazing because of the actual wedding day - everything was beautiful and ran smoothly. It was also amazing and fun to work with the wedding coordinator, Aleesa. She was very pleasant to work with and made our wedding day the best day ever!!!
This location was great to capture both ceremony and reception. There are bride and groom rooms so that you have plenty of space to prepare the day of. The grounds are maintained very well and there are so many places for photo opportunities.
There were a few restrictions by the city of holland for having approved caterers and beverage providers but they only allow the best.
They are more than willing to help out in any way they can. The staff at the island was very in-tune with advising what kinds of things worked well, what didn't work, etc. The tent on the grounds is very large and allows a ton of space. The sides are able to come up or drop down for inclement weather, while still maintaing the beauty of it all.
I would strongly recommend this location to any bride looking for just teh right place.
Everyone gave us so many compliments about this venue. It was the perfect fit for us. It did end up raining about 5 mins before the ceremony started but everything quickly got moved inside (sadly my guests had to help with this) and the event went on wonderfully. We did the pictures before the ceremony, which I am very happy with now. I would definitely recommend this venue to anyone and everyone; it is beautiful!!
Windmill Island is the perfect place for a wedding. There's countless photo opportunities and there's a gazebo and pavilion so you can have your ceremony and reception in one spot. Everyone was very helpful and organized there and always responded quickly when I emailed with questions. Everything went perfect :-) It fills up fast though, get it while you can!
