The night before the wedding, at the rehearsal party, apparently one of the guests pulled out a vape pen or joint outside on the terrace and the owner saw it. He yelled at the guest, who apologized profusely, then yelled at the bride, who was mortified and apologetic as well. Not satisfied with the bride crying, he then also accosted the mother of the bride saying he had smelled marijuana twice, had "never felt more disrespected, " "he would shut this down" and about how it is "in the contract." This prohibition of a legal activity (Vermont) is posted no where for guests to read. There is a small designated smoking area in the gravel parking lot, but marijuana is apparently prohibited property wide. This legal carve out is a strict policy created by the owner. The contract itself merely says "no recreational drug use." The owner failed to ever even ask if the guest had a medicinal use license before he ruined the bride's night. He also took pictures of pizza plates left around the grounds as children played midparty and yelled about that too. It was as the party was in full swing, we had not even had a chance to clean up after the kids, they weren't even done. We spent the next two days on egg shells. The owner locked up the kitchen and ice machine, so we bought our own ice, for which we were chided. He alternated between obsequious service with a giant fake smile and cranky imperious orders to stop cleaning up or tending to ourselves. We were to ask him for things. His unpredictable behavior and being everywhere and nowhere during our stay was so uncomfortable. We could not get out of there fast enough.
