Wonder Meadows at Cove Mountain

/Remax. My family has been renting from them for well over 10 years atleast once a year, and most years, twice a year. Easily have spent over 20k in rentals with them over the years and even have another trip booked with them next year. Never had an issue until yesterday. We received a phone call from “Frances” in the office saying that we “broke” a rocking chair. When questioned, we did let them know that we noticed had a crack when we got there but just pushed it to the side and did not use it all week to avoid messing it up any further (Pic posted below of the “brand new rocker”). She said we should have reported it but she was going to call the renters before us. She never mentioned that we were being charged. After checking email, we noticed a $500 charge that was made before the phone call yesterday morning. So, we called to question them on the charge and now the story was that the manager, Mike Miller, told her to charge the $500 bc the chair and that the cabin was “trashed”. He was not in the office so we couldn’t speak to him yesterday. The cabin being “trashed” was never mentioned in the call yesterday morning. Not to mention, this was absolutely NOT the case. This cabin was clean, dishes were done, beds were not made but all sheets and pillows were on the bed and all towels were put in the tub as instructed. There were only 3 garbage cans in the cabin, 2 small bathroom cans and one medium sized kitchen can. Each can only had one bag & the kitchen one was tied up and placed next to it for easy disposal. There were no outside cans so we already had to bring garbage to the office 3x that week to dispose of ourselves. On top of this, when we called them to send someone to help us with the door lock not working on the first day she was no help at all. Said someone couldn’t come out until the next day and expected us to leave our cabin unlocked with all of our belongings inside. We ended up going to the store and purchasing stuff to fix it ourselves so that we were able to leave for the day. We requested pictures of the cabin as being “trashed” be sent to us via email but they said cleaners did not take any. The email yesterday stated that the floors were dusty and counter and oven were dirty. We swept and passed clean rag on counters before we left. They also said there was fingerprints on the TV screen. After the manager returned call today, he said he would only reduce the charge from $500 to $320 bc the owners requested that we pay for a new rocker and then charge $65 to cancel next years booking that we are no longer comfortable keeping. I will NEVER use Cove Mountain again and will make it a point to NEVER recommend them again to anyone. Completely taken advantage of.
