Let me start out by saying our wedding plans changed 2 weeks beforehand so we were scrambling! Luckily, a few venues were available for our date, including this one. Jamie is so sw...
eet and responsive that I booked the venue sight unseen, which was totally my mistake!
I will say, the venue is cute for what it is. It’s hard to find non-rustic venues in our area and no knock against that, it just isn’t my preferred aesthetic. We appreciated the house has AC and dedicated floors for bride and groom. However, the bridal floor is on the main level of the house that also has a wrap around porch. That meant it was impossible to hide before the ceremony. I kept trying to duck behind walls or furniture, but because of the way the house is laid out there’s always an exposed window no matter where you turn and all the curtains are sheer. There’s also only one tiny half bath for changing.
It was also a little awkward that Jamie and her family were upstairs while we were getting ready. We felt like we were intruding and found ourselves whispering at times because it was so awkward. It would have been less uncomfortable if they came down to interact for even a few minutes before retreating. The only time we saw Jamie was when we pulled in and she called her dog in from the porch. She never came up to us. I’m sure there are people who appreciate that, but to me, if you’re going to be there all day, why not just say, “Hey, we’ll be right upstairs if you need anything.” I had no idea they would be there the whole time. I know it’s their home, but figured they made arrangements for when it’s booked.
One of the biggest downfalls is the lack of leveled spaces. Aside from the barn and the ceremony space there’s a lot of slopes on gravel or uneven lawn. We had a hard time figuring out the spacing of ceremony chairs because so many sat wobbly from divets in the grass. After the ceremony we walked down the steep hillside to take family pictures. My 72-year-old dad has Parkinson’s and it was definitely sketchy. Sure we could’ve stayed up near the barn, but again, not my vibe, so this is probably just a personal problem.
Another con was that we found the biggest rat droppings any of us had ever seen in the barn when we were setting up. There was also a stench in that corner, so we rearranged the tables so that our families didn’t have to eat dinner near that. And we did see two large rats run through the barn at the end of the night while we were cleaning up!
One thing I wish Jamie offered was being able to pay per person if your guest count goes above 30. We were at 32 and had to pay the higher fee—although we had 5 no shows, so we ended up under 30 anyway. It would’ve been great if there was an option of say $75/pp over 30 for up to 35 for example. Or if we could’ve waited to see if we ended up over or under, because there are always no shows! It’s something you can easily write into the contract. Up to 75 people or up to 30 is such a huge margin!
Since we ended up paying the larger amount, we could’ve spent a few hundred more dollars and booked a much nicer venue. It’s my one and only wedding regret.
PS - Jamie is so so sweet and my intention is not to be malicious. This is my personal opinion! I know this venue is right for a lot of couples, just not for us. I take full accountability in the fact that I didn’t tour the venue before booking it, but that doesn’t change my experience or feelings.
This was the PERFECT venue for our family-friendly late June wedding! It has such natural beauty that you really don't need any florals, and they included tables and chairs. Jamie ...
