About this vendor
The Workhouse Arts Center is a one of a kind location! Listed on the Registry of Historic Places, it was once home to the DC Workhouse and Prison. The campus began its transformation in 2007 with the addition of artist studios, galleries, a theater, and performance spaces. The Lucy Burns Museum will open this fall and pay homage to the Suffragists imprisoned at the Workhouse in 1917. The main galleries are available for weddings and event up to 120 guests.
Custom wedding packages are available, including commissioned pieces from one of the over 50 artists on site. A one of a kind cake topper, bridal portrait, or perfect bridesmaids gifts are just a few options!

Their air conditioner doesn’t work . It was 89 degrees on the thermostat firing my reception . I paid 3400.00 for a venue that I we couldn’t truly enjoy because it was so hot my cake and cookies melted . We asked for some of our money back since it was their fault that we could f enjoy our reception due to the heat . My mother in law got so hot she almost passed out . The moment we asked for them to make it right to us they made up stories about we didn’t wear mask when they told me and my planner that we didn’t need to and they said my caterer left trash when my planner double checked with Erin before leaving our reception and she said everything was good . Their venue is gorgeous but unless you want a sauna and horrible customer service that makes stuff up and blames others run far away from this event . Their communication was horrible through our whole process and it seems no one is on the same page . You’re taking a huge risk of your event being ruined if you use this venue . We’re not done yet dealing with this and plan to take other measures .
The Workhouse Arts Center is a unique, historical and artistic space with a friendly and creative vibe. It was a perfect fit for us and I highly recommend it to any bride! Aysha on the events team was wonderful to work with beginning to end. She was very responsive, enthusiastic, and helpful throughout the planning process. The space itself is flexible and has a lot of perks including tables and chairs included in price. We used two of the spaces in one night for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception and it turned out beautifully! Thank you to Workhouse and the team for helping us create wonderful memories from our wedding!
The Workhouse Arts Center is a gem of a wedding and reception venue. They did a great job of making sure our wedding was stress-free. And, their event coordinator, Karen, did a great job of taking care of all of our wedding specifications. The venue itself has a ton of visual arts exhibits and artists, so our guest were able to walk around and explore before the ceremony and while waiting for our photo shoot to finish. Our wedding/reception was held in their main art gallery which provided a great backdrop for our day. And, the campus' architecture made for some great wedding photos.
