I wish I would have seen reviews before my daughter booked and trusted this venue with her wedding. Our Wedding planner, that was recommended by this venue, and she also had issues with communication and scheduling with venue manager, so I went to owner and she backed him up and tried to explain everything away. Come the day of my daughter's wedding, neither the venue manager or the owner were present and the ordered food ran out before they could feed all of our guests and the quality of the food was less than what was promised and presented at our food tasting meeting with them. I felt it was a bait and switch on the food and no explanation as to why the food was so poor quality and how they could have run out of food for our guests. I am beyond disappointed for my daughter and my guests who traveled from out of state for this special occasion. Heads up, nice views, good presentation, but they failed when it counted and there were many warning signs which we should have listened to, but we chose to trust in them. I am still waiting for our wedding planner to find out why they ran out of the food and the quality and taste was so poor in contrast to our food tasting meeting, will post here as soon as wedding planner is returned a response to our inquiry.
I didn't get a chance to even walk this space unfortunately. I called to see if I could get a same day appointment because I was unexpectedly in the area and was trying to take care of two things at once. When I called initially I got no answer but then the gentleman returned my call. I'm not sure if he was having a rough day or not but he came off very short with me. I was looking for a space for a year out and on a Sunday at that. I felt like he was trying to rush me off the phone with his questions and he shut me down as soon as I said I was looking to do a fashion show I wanted to do for about 150 people. Well according to their website it eays they can accommodate up to 140. Considering for my event I would not need any tables just chairs I thought it may be a great fit I could just reduce the number of people by 10. However I didn't get the opportunity to tell him anything else. He was too busy telling me they are not a good fit for me. To be clear I just needed chairs and to create an aisle way. It's unfortunate we couldn't work together because I love the pictures of their venue. It would have made for an amazing experience with dope pictures. I was doing the event for a charity but of course I didn't have a chance to let that be known because he was trying to rush me off the phone because "their event space was not a good fit for my event".🤷
Besides price and location, one of the most important things in choosing a venue is making sure that there is good communication. They "can't" schedule tours more than a week in advance which is very odd to me. Tried emailing and their responses take days to schedule a tour (15 days to be exact) . Also, no luck getting through to anyone on the phone. Tried again to schedule and have been waiting 3 days for a confirmation for appointment 2 days from now. I won't be planning my wedding here.
This a lengthy review and it is purely from a wedding perspective.
Please, I beg you, keep in mind that this venue is currently marketed as an EVENT venue, not specifically a WEDDING venue. The reasons why are very clear and were discussed prior to the event, so we knew what we were getting into.
Pros:
1. The venue is GORGEOUS. Modern but but not overly so. The view from the rooftop patio is just wonderful. I'm not sure you can do better for the price.
2. Value. Because it is not a full service venue, you are not tied to using any specific vendors or additional service. This is huge.
3. Muyiwa, was prompt to reply and helpful. He sent reminders when payments were due and offered us a list of friendors, if needed.
Cons:
1. Sound. If you are trying to throw a party, this is not the place. We were barely able to hear the music inside even though all of our guests were seating outside, so it wasn't that everyone was talking at once, it is just not a great venue for dancing. People didn't even know what our first dance song was and they wouldn't get up when their favorite song was playing because they couldn't hear it from the patio. But we dealt with it. The biggest problem was not being able to use a microphone outside. Nobody could hear any of the ceremony.
We get that they can't disturb the neighbors, but there's certainly a middle ground here.
2. I wish that the measurements for the tables and exactly what is provided were detailed on the website. We had to email to ask the size of the cocktail tables. Something easy to fix, so this is a suggestion: the more details the better.
3. I wish they offered their own tent. Maybe for extra charge and just like they do with heaters. But it would make for a less stressful experience to know that if you actually need it, is there and you can make that decision close to your date, rather than dealing with other reservations and deposits for something you don't know if you'll actually need.
4.Lastly, It has been 2.5 weeks and we have not seen our security deposit yet. My husband emailed to check the status. I believe it will be sorted out, but as a suggestion, it should not take this long.
Things to think about:
=>It is a smaller venue. We had to get creative with the seating chart and ended up seating everyone outside, at their tables for the ceremony so that we could still have a dance floor inside. It worked out great for our 90 guests and everyone mentioned how gorgeous the place was. Granted, the weather was perfect that day.
=> Rectangular tables are a lot more efficient for space.
Nice , cozy relaxing venue.
Overall the venue was great. All the guests loved it. It did rain the day of the wedding so we weren’t able to sit anyone outside but the guests were still able to hang out outdoors.
Our requirements for a venue were 1) intimate 2) bring in our own alcohol and servers 3) flexibility around catering, and of course 4) in budget. 1111 Studewood was beyond our expectations. Muyiwa is great to work with and the venue is state of the art in my mind. Tastefully decorated so it requires very little in additional decor, beautiful outdoor area with downtown view. The recent addition of outdoor turf/grass ended up being great. We didn't even rent a dance floor and had guests dancing on the 'grass' all night. We were able to bring in our own TABC certified bartending team, buy our own alcohol, which saved us money, and we could have picked any licensed caterer.
The venue comes with cocktail tables, round tables, chairs, and a couple of rectangular tables, so that saved tons for us in rentals. It also came with complimentary valet and security, so all in all, a very affordable, yet luxurious, package for those on a budget. It also comes with wireless connection to the speakers, and video options that we didn't take advantage of.
Couple considerations:
1) We had just shy of 100 guests, and it was a little tight with 8 - 132" rounds, so I'd probably recommend no more than 80 guests or so for a comfortable sit down. Once dinner was over, plenty of room for people to move around.
2) There is strict noise ordinance in the area (the Heights), but we kept our DJ indoors and didn't have any problems.
3) There is not a bridal/wedding party waiting area, but we were aware before we booked. I just stayed on the floor below until it was time for the ceremony to begin.
4) Restrooms are a floor below, but it's easy access via stairs or elevator.
5) The outdoor area is not covered - we got very lucky with a beautiful Houston evening for our ceremony, but tenting the area would be tough, so take that into consideration if you plan to use the outdoor area as part of the event.
Overall, this was exactly what we wanted and we couldn't have been more pleased with our experience at 1111 Studewood.
What a wonderfully unique venue with plenty of "wow" factor! We worked very closely with Muyiwa and he was very easy to communicate with and offered lots of good solutions and ideas. Even though we didn't get to use the rooftop fully due to the rain, we still got to enjoy that amazing view of downtown! If you're looking for romantic, intimate, unique venue with spectacular views - this is the place.
Small rooftop venue with the most amazing view, max is 100 people. We had about 75. Location good( complimentary valet) and inside is beautiful as well.
