About this vendor
Located in Baltimore, MD, 1840s Plaza is a historic wedding venue. It has several event spaces that make for charming weddings that blend history and contemporary style. The venue and boutique bed and breakfast sit just steps away from some of downtown Baltimore’s biggest attractions, like Harbor East, Little Italy and the Inner Harbor.
1840s Plaza is situated in the heart of the Jonestown district, a historic neighborhood that was established in 1732. The 1840s Carrollton Inn, the hotel adjacent to the venue, was named after Charles Carroll of Carrollton. Carroll was an American Founding Father and signer of the Declaration of Independence whose winter mansion is located next to the venue and hotel. The oldest part of the buildings dates to the late 18th century when Carroll himself could be seen strolling through the streets of Baltimore. The eye-catching cast-iron facade was one of only twelve that were saved during the great Baltimore fire of 1904, and after undergoing restorations, is in near-perfect condition.
The first thing couples and their guests will notice at the venue is the stunning red brick exterior of the buildings. Some are centuries-old, while authentic, period-accurate replicas have been built to extend the venue and hotel. This wedding location has two outdoor spaces that connect the bed and breakfast to the Fava Building, where events are held. The courtyards are decorated with hedges and flowers that add to the romantic air of the venue. The interior of both the hotel and the Fava Building are embellished with rich, dark wood and plush furniture, adding a touch of luxury to any wedding.
Inside the Fava Building, there are three spaces to choose from: The Cabaret, City Lites, and the Ballroom. The 5,000-square-foot Ballroom can accommodate cocktail-style weddings of up to 350 or seated parties of up to 230 guests. Smaller weddings can be held in the Latin-themed Cabaret, or the relaxed atmosphere of the City Lites. Each event space includes tables and chairs as needed. The facility offers elopement packages for those who want to keep their wedding an intimate gathering of only their nearest and dearest guests. Couples can add romance to the occasion and spend a night in the hotel, where each of the 13 rooms has been individually designed and decorated.

Hands down, Kori was absolutely the greatest! She handled our wedding like it was her own. She created a schedule for us and made sure everything went as planned. Kori was there from day of viewing the venue for the first time, she was very professional and detail oriented! Everything was great! I highly recommend this venue solely due to the professionalism of the weekend staff. Very affordable and a lot of different vendor options were provided for every budget.
Only book the bed and breakfast if you are looking for red tape and attitude. Totally ruined a honeymoon by not letting the bride and groom stay because their reservation was made and paid for by someone else as a gift. Their professional solution was that the gift giver cashapp the groom on the spot so he could make his own reservation and payment for the same room that was already reserved and paid for months in advance. They do not accept credit card authorizations and they don't listen to reason. They do not care whose name is on the reservation. The only person that can check in is whosever's name is on the original credit card. Heaven help you if you use a maiden name or use a company card. They lie and say no manager is available but then the manager calls you later to say they were silently listening in to your original phone call, yet offered no help the first and second time around. What? Total twilight zone. So much for a romantic honeymoon. DO NOT DEAL with this bed and breakfast unless you want to spend the first night of your honeymoon driving around Baltimore to find another hotel.
Wow what a great facility, staff, and wedding on June 4th! When we checked in to the Carrollton Inn on June 2 Devin greeted us, checked us in and even assisted us with all the items we brought with us for the wedding. And prior to our arrival Stasia was on top of all our reservations and quickly made changes we had and was so easy to work with which we greatly appreciated. The rooms were all ready for us as we arrived and they were all lovely. Sadly I don’t have all the names of the Staff but there was not one person we came in contact with who wasn’t friendly and hospitable to us and all our guests.
The coffee service and breakfast were set and ready to go each day and we especially enjoyed the Buffet breakfasts. Of course the cookies in the evening were such a great way to top off the night. What’s not to love about a soft chocolate chip cookie? 😊
On the big day, the weather was great with a slight breeze in the courtyard, but such a lovely setting. It was all on time, the DJ handled the music without a glitch, and the set up was perfect. Then we moved to the next courtyard for the cocktail hour with delicious appetizers, friendly staff, and continued great weather.
Then without hesitation the staff so seamlessly moved us all from the courtyard to the 4th floor ballroom for a wonderful dinner, festivities, and dancing.
I realize this is their job but they do their job very well and in many cases above and beyond. We would all highly recommend having a wedding or event at the 1840’s Plaza as they won’t disappoint.
I also know our Wedding Planner, Maya Mahoney from Honey & Lavender, helped with vendor selections but worked so well with Stasia at 1840’s Plaza using many of the vendors they frequently use.
It was our daughter’s big day and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Thank you to all who made it so very successful! 😊

Mother of the Bride
We loved our venue. They were very responsive throughout the planning process. We only reserved two levels (City Lites and Cabaret) but at the last minute, they let us use the Ballroom for free! We love having a brick there to remember the day and our time in Baltimore.
I absolutely loved work with Stacia, Rachel, Kori and Cori! They made my day go as smooth as possible every step of the way!
I can’t say enough good about this beautiful venue and it’s staff! Long story short, I was an 8 month pregnant Bride and I still wanted my day to be special. I thought it would be great to spend the night at the Hampton Hotel, to keep some tradition. That would mean my husband would have to dress himself and our two sons (2 and 6), by himself. On our wedding day, by the time I arrived at the venue, he was half dressed, sweating and near having a heart attack. Needless to say, we were late (definitely would not recommend). The staff jumped in as we were family, by helping my husband get dressed, providing water, making errands to the car (for miscellaneous forgotten items), and comforted us the ENTIRE WAY THROUGH! They ensured us that they had our backs, and they certainly did. In the end, we had a BEAUTIFUL elopement. I can not thank them enough. Also, their venue is breathtaking. Look no further!
Hosted my husband’s 30th birthday party here. Beautiful venue! Each level offers ample opportunity for creativity. All the guests loved it. Highly recommend.
My wife and I had our wedding at the Plaza a few years ago. I still smile when I think about how perfect it was! Our ceremony was offsite, but we had cocktails in the courtyard and our reception in the ballroom. Our guests were blown away by the ballroom's beauty and were happy with the food! The best part of the entire experience was the staff... they helped my wife and I plan everything in advance so that we could enjoy ourselves during our big day. I would highly recommend this venue!
1840s Plaza was the most phenomenal place to host our wedding. The staff were incredibly easy to work with leading up to the event. On the day of, they were super professional and assisted where needed. The event space was unbelievably gorgeous before we decorated and made our dreams a reality after we put our finishing touches on it. Our October wedding could not have been any more beautiful. I would highly, highly recommend this venue.
Last December I was able to host two parties at 1840s Plaza for my family; a baby shower and a birthday party. Each party had about 35 people and was held in the ballroom. I was able to bring my own table cloths and decorate however I wanted! We had music, food, photos and a great time thanks to the staff at 1840s. I would host something there again!
We recently hosted a Quinceañera party for our daughter to celebrate her birthday. We looked at many places and finally settled for 1840s Plaza. The venue's historical charm suited our theme and wowed all the guests in attendance.
The deciding factor in our choice was 1840s general manager- Stasia. She was beyond helpful, detail oriented and knowledgeable. She made us feel very comfortable from the minute we met, always with a smile on her face. We are very happy with the price quoted and services provided. The whole team at 1840s is great to work with.
1840s Plaza is Baltimore's hidden gem...
Thank you for the unforgettable night!

Beautiful venue in a convenient location in Downtown Baltimore. Also great for out-of-town guests!
Although we reside in DC/MD/VA area, majority of our guests were from out of town, and we wanted to ensure convenience for them. Located in the Inner Harbor, the venue is close by the BWI airport, and right next to the venue is a hotel within a short walking distance. We had a room block with the hotel, and because of the proximity to the venue, our out-of-town guests did not need to rent a car and explored Downtown Baltimore. For guests driving to the venue, complimentary valet parking is provided the day of which was a big plus.
The 1840s staff are extremely professional, friendly and accommodating, especially Stasia, who served as our main POC. She made us feel like family.
It’s a great venue for photos, especially the backdrop of the Fava building. The Carrollton Inn is a very lovely getting ready spot day of and place to stay on the wedding night. The Carrollton Inn breakfast is sooo good - we had to throw this in as well!
Thank you 1840s for the great experience and memorable wedding day! And a special THANK YOU to Stasia!
We had such a great experience planning a small wedding ceremony (14 guests) with 1840's plaza. It was held in the City Lites room, which is stunning for daytime photographs! Lauren was incredibly responsive and helpful even with the smallest questions and attention to detail from start to finish. It made our day start off without a hitch and left of us with wonderful memories of a beautiful venue -- complete with a wedding anniversary brick!
This venue was absolutely gorgeous and they staff were truly professionals! Every detail was taken care of by the Plaza staff and they worked seamlessly with all of our other vendors! We also recommend staying onsite at the Carrollton Inn to make getting ready a breeze!
We genuinely cannot say enough good things about the 1840's Plaza venue, and the amazing staff that runs it!! The venue itself is amazing and pretty much speaks for itself. The plaza is a historical Baltimore landmark and has so much natural beauty and character. The Hilton Fairfield is right next door and available for room blocks, making transportation not necessary, which we loved! The Carrollton Inn is attached to the Plaza, where we had our immediate family members stay for an extra special experience. The rooms are very luxurious and unlike anywhere else in the city, as it is furnished with vintage furniture and beautiful architecture. We got married in the large courtyard with its luscious greenery, held our cocktail hour in the charming upper courtyard, and our reception took place in the gorgeous ballroom. It was everything that we could have ever imagined and more. The staff members are incredible. Stasia and Kelsey were always so accommodating to our needs and readily available to contact via email or phone instantly. We added an extra hr 1 mon before! We had an internationally wedding and coordinating rooms and guest accommodations was made very easy thanks to these individuals. They were able to get us in touch with the Fairfiled Inn for our room block when we were initially having difficulty. We had a little bit of a rowdy crowd in that everyone was very excitable and on vacation and the Plaza staff provided the most amazing service without a single complaint. On the day of our wedding, it began to rain during the ceremony hour. The staff knew how important it was for me to get married outside and when it started to rain they began to set up the backup option on the second floor. However, when the rain looked like it was going to slow down to a stop, they quickly air dried and toweled the outside area and changed it back knowing how important it was to us. We can't say enough good things about this venue and their staff. They made our day so special!!
We chose to have our Wedding of 150 guests in the 4th Floor Ballroom at the 1840's Plaza and it could not have gone better with the amazing help from Stasia and Kelsey, in addition to many other staff members! Even the security guards that were present were extremely helpful and friendly. One of the security guards even catered to my Wedding party during picture time by grabbing drinks for us and holding bouquets! The staff made my planning go by with a breeze because I had to plan our Wedding from out of state. They always were very prompt and answered all of my many questions. I cannot wait to see all of our photos as well because we didn't even have to leave the grounds as there are tons of photo opportunities at the 1840's plaza. Thank you so much!
We had our Wedding Reception on the 4th floor Ballroom...it was perfect!! the views, the service, the staff, everyone was so friendly and helpful! It was a warm Oct 7, 2017 day and they provided water to our guests while they waited to enter the reception to begin cocktail hour!! We stayed at the Carrolton Inn on our wedding and it it was wonderful!! We will definitely make plans to stay again!!
Wow!!! Thank you to the staff at 1840's plaza. We held our wedding on 10/6/2017, a Friday night. The entire staff at 1840's worked with us throughout the entire process to ensure that our wedding went smoothly. We had our ceremony in the courtyard and our reception in the ballroom. From the moment we toured, we knew wanted this venue. Contract and subsequent payments were easy and the staff was always available to help. It also eased my mind knowing that a backup plan was available if the weather was not cooperating. The day before the wedding, we were able to bring our decorations and extras to the venue to drop them off. Day of, the entire staff made it super easy. Kelsey was constantly around and working with vendors as they arrived. Stasia helped coordinate the ceremony start time and planning/logistics. Their staff helped move things between buildings after the ceremony, and Kelsey was there the next morning and helped us load up all the cars with the extra stuff! Thank you to the entire staff at 1840's for helping make our wedding everything we had dreamed of and more. We hope you guys enjoyed the pie!
Not only was 1840's Plaza a beautiful venue but their team went above and beyond to make our wedding day perfect. Their team served as the point person for all our vendors so we didn't have to worry about anything the day of!
Couldn't have been happier with 1840's Plaza for our wedding ceremony & reception! I already knew how much I loved the space (upper courtyard-ceremony, lower courtyard-cocktail hour, and City Lights floor-reception) but the staff was above & beyond what I'd hoped for (and needed for) the whole weekend. Everything from the venue just went so smoothly, including coordination with our outside vendors, and I'm surprised to say nothing at ALL went wrong during our entire wedding weekend. Stasia was clearly a very experienced & knowledgeable wedding planner/coordinator, and helped me (a quite clueless bride) figure out so many small details and the best flow for everything from start to finish. Dianna was also so helpful in planning some of our pre-wedding meetings and plans. Additionally, I stayed in the 1840's Carroll Suite the night before to have as my bridal suite to get ready in the day of the wedding, with my fiance and I staying there that night after our reception. I loved every part of my wedding and wouldn't have changed a thing, and all our guests told us how much they loved the City Lights space. And most of all - its location was so convenient to the nearby hotels and some other restaurants/bars, it was very convenient for our mostly out-of-town guests to not have to travel or figure out any complicated logistics. From ceremony rehearsal Friday night to checking out Sunday morning, I honestly have no complaints whatsoever and highly recommend the 1840's Plaza complex for any Baltimore wedding.
The 1840s Carrollton Inn is in a nice location centrally located in Baltimore City, with valet parking and security included with the wedding packages. The venue offers four optional ballrooms to host a wedding. We took the top floor, most expensive option in prime time, Saturday, and during wedding season, September 2016. There was plenty of space for the guests to mill about comfortably and the atmosphere is relaxing. The staff and owner need improvement. Dianna Levin, assistant manager, gave us a tour of the facility and we liked it right away. We looked at a couple of other venues and Dianna was the not the most snobby and aloof of venue tour guides, but quite off-putting for the price we paid. Pretension is a big turn off when trying to close a big deal. Stasia Cruz, the general manager and owner was not snobby, which was good, but I when I requested to pay by credit card balances due, she wanted to add surcharges to the already large bill for using a credit card. I decided to pay by check with no surcharges. In the end Stasia was accommodating as she allowed us to park our cars in the private lot since we also stayed at the Inn after the wedding. What was poor form was the staff at the front desk accused us of losing the plastic re-programmable room key and wanted to charge us $25 for the lost key. Unfortunately, we never received a key in the first place and accessed our room because the door was left open all night. 1840s Plaza, nice place, poor management.
1840's is a gorgeous venue, but it stops at that. I got married here in November and had a nightmare of an experience with 1840's Plaza and their staff. I would never recommend anyone to get married and/or hold an event here. You will go through the ringer with their staff. Upon signing the contract I was promised the moon, for example, the ceremony and reception can all take place in one room; they had pipe and draping for everything that we needed; I wouldn't need a wedding planner because they provide those services. This, as well as many other "promises" were not "kept." I went from renting one room, to having to rent the ENTIRE building in order to have our wedding there, which was unbelievably costly. Stassi and Dianna were absolute nightmares to work with. Our wedding still ended up being stunningly gorgeous but that was because of our private wedding planner we hired and all the outside vendors. In addition, when we went through our final walk through of the venue, there were rats IN the actual venue running around. Save yourself the headache and do NOT get married here. Baltimore has several other gorgeous venues to offer, check those out.
1840's was an amazing place to have our wedding! The staff is so friendly and really willing to work with you. The venue itself has such character and is so beautiful. The staff goes above in beyond on your wedding day. Stasia was our event coordinator there and she was amazing! My bridesmaids were having trouble bustling my dress and she stepped in and helped. So grateful! She also got us food during the cocktail hour to make sure we got chance to eat.The staff there are very detailed oriented and made sure things run smoothly throughout the night. Would recommend 1840's to all my friends who are getting married!
We loved this venue because it wasn't your "typical ballroom". The exposed wooden beam ceilings and murals on the walls give it a unique feel. I originally wanted the ceremony to be outside in the courtyard but had to move it inside because of inclement weather. We had a back up plan for an indoor ceremony all along but I was amazed at how well they were able to transform ballroom into a beautiful ceremony space and then quickly turn it over into the reception space. Everyone I worked with was pleasant and willing to make my day a dream come true : )
My son and new daughter-in-law were just married here. The physical venue is so spectacular, reflecting Baltimore history and it has a view of the harbor area from the 4th floor Ballroom.
I was impressed with the personnel and their professional ability to take charge of our large wedding party. It was a stress-free day.
We used a total of three separate floors and all movement of bridal party and guests (150) was smoothly handled.
I would highly recommend the venue and those who work here.
The venue was just perfect for our wedding. We had our ceremony in the upper courtyard, a receiving line in the lower courtyard, and the reception in the 4th floor ballroom. Everything was beautiful and the staff was wonderful. I don't know how we would have gotten through our big day without Stasia. We did not have a wedding planner and she made sure everything ran smoothly.
I can't say enough about this place. I held my wedding ceremony here as an outdoor ceremony in the courtyard and my reception on the City Lites floor. The staff here heaven sent. Stasia and Diana were there for me every step of the way from the first day I came to see the venue til the last minute of the wedding. There is none like them. The place is full of fun and color and offers a different variety of style and elegance. The outside decor offers a beautiful garden . If you some to this venue you will immediately fall in love with it.
We fell in love with the 1840's Plaza the moment we walked in! We figured out our wedding size, and have a few options of venue that could hold a wedding our size, and as it happened, 1840's was the first place we looked at on a day of touring venues. Once we got to the City Lites level, we were totally sold. We wanted something a little more unique that a big rectangular ballroom, and this venue was perfect for our needs. At that point all of the other venues we toured, though lovely, just couldn't compare. All aspects of planning were a breeze with Stasia and Dianna, and when possible, the team was totally flexible! As it turned out, we had our ceremony in the courtyard, cocktail hour in the Cabaret, and reception in the City Lites. We had a cocktail reception, so we didn't have to worry about seating for everyone, so City Lites was the perfect fit for the reception of our dreams. We didn't have any significant problems to speak of, and we're happy to sing the praises of a fabulous venue!
We did check this venue out and it was a little pricey but beautiful!
The place was very beautiful and i loved the service. they were very nice and welcoming and knowledgeable about every aspect of the venue. When i asked a question they had a answer and the only reason i did not choose this place was because i wanted a beach type of wedding. if i every have a party or another event they are at the top of my list!
1840s was the perfect spot for my wedding! I was looking to get married outside in a garden setting (which they have) but still be close to city amenities since we had lots of out of town guests. The 1840s is perfectly located downtown but is quietly secluded away from the busy city. Stasia and everyone else at the 1840s were amazing and helped make this day perfect. Everything about the venue was beautiful including the outdoor gardens and the 4th floor ballroom (where we had the reception).
Great venue, loved everything about city lites. Dealing with Sasha was a delight!
The 1840s Plaza was the perfect venue for my wedding ceremony and reception. We held the ceremony in the upper courtyard and the reception in the City Lites venue on the 2nd floor of the Fava Building. It's such a beautiful and unique venue and The 1840s staff were wonderful to work with and very accommodating. I highly recommend this venue.
We really enjoyed using the city lites room for our wedding ceremony and reception (cocktail hour was on first floor). The venue was unique! It was also very convenient to an affordable hotel (Fairfield Inn).
The 1840s plaza was the perfect spot for our October wedding! The staff went above and beyond to cater to our every need and request! We had our ceremony in the courtyard and our reception in the 2nd floor city lites ballroom. Valet was included, which made it very convenient for our non city dwelling guests! I highly recommend this venue, as well as the suites at the Carrollton Inn (adjacent to the courtyard and venue). They are fantastic!
1840s did a magnificent job of taking care of the vendors the day of. They were very attentive to our needs as a couple, and made sure that the day went extremely smoothly. It really was and is such a wonderful event location!! For that, I am extremely grateful.
However, it seems like this year in particular, the 1840s underwent some very significant changes to the their processes. Unfortunately, they did not relay those changes to us, which caused a bit of confusion on several different occasions. My suggestion would be that, for every bride who decides to have her wedding here, there should be a dedicated consultant who is responsible for giving the bride up-to-date, current information on changes as they occur.
we went to this venue when we were deciding where to hold our wedding and while the venue has a nice layout its in the city of baltimore and therefore noisy
this was the perfect place for our Baltimore wedding! the staff is very attentive and did a perfect job at making sure our night was perfect which it was! they work very well with the catering and other vendors that are brought in!
Stasia, Megan, and the whole 1840s staff were excellent to work with! They went out of their way to accomodate all of our requests and special needs.
We had our wedding in the 4th Floor Ballroom, and many of our guests stayed at the Carrolton Inn. The venue was beautiful and the staff was very accommodating, allowing us to deliver the alcohol early and setting up for our rehearsal the night before. The manager in charge walked us to the ceremony and back to our room. My only complaint is that it sometimes took several days or several attempts at contact to hear back from the manager if I had a question or request. That being said, when we had her attention, she was extremely helpful and made us top priority the weekend of the wedding. The rooms at the Carrolton Inn are beautiful, and that is where we stayed the night of our wedding. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and would definitely recommend them to a Baltimore bride.
We had our cocktail hour in the first floor area and then the reception on the third floor. Both areas are gorgeous. The event manager was a little slow to respond to emails and calls, which was a bit frustrating during the planning process. Overall, we were happy with the site and our reception went off without a hitch.
All I have to say is this venue did it all for us. We used the courtyard for our ceremony, the upper courtyard for our cocktail hour, and the 4th floor ballroom for our reception. It was absolutely gorgeous, and the staff was amazing. Our guests could not get over how beautiful everything was. It is located in a great place near the inner harbor, and our guests had a wonderful time visiting the area. I highly recommend this venue if you are looking for an elegant location that can handle one fun party.
Our ceremony was held in the courtyard of the Carrollton Inn Bed and Breakfast and was beautiful. The weather was very hot though and although we had originally planned on having the cocktail hour in the plaza, the ballroom staff seamlessly reorganzied at the last minute so that we could have the cocktail hour inside. The reception was in the city lights room and we received so many compliments on the fun ambiance. Our goal was to have a traditional outside romantic ceremony, classy cocktail hour, and get the party started reception. The one drawback was that the neighborhood can be sort of sketch (one of our guests had her car broken into). We arranged for security for our guests and would recommend that others do the same. Great venue overall.
1840's is gorgeous and the staff especially Sharon is wonderful. I had a full wedding package with them and it turned out amazing! I wish I could do it again. My Husband and I and all of my guests had a fantastic time! It is definitely a great place to have a wedding and/or reception.
loved everything. amazing customer service!
We used the 1840s ballroom for our wedding.
The staff was great, Stacia specifically was wonderful.
We used the 2nd floor for cocktail hour. The third floor for the ceremony and the 4th floor for the reception.
Had a great intimate wedding at the Carroll Mansion (which was inthe 1840's Plaza). The space was perfect for my small wedding (51 guests). The atmosphere was wonderful! Couldn't have asked for better service and staff (special thanks to Sharon!)
very nice and elegant
The 1840S City Lites room was perfect for my wedding reception. I had a cooktail reception with a live band and this room had a great lounge feel to it. The staff was great, Juan was a huge help and was there throughout the reception.
The staff at the 1840's Ballroom could not have been more attentive. They went above & beyond to make our cocktail hour and reception amazing. There were absolutely no issues at all and I am so happy that I chose this venue. Each & every person that was there assisting with the wedding day truthfully went above and beyond. Thanks 1840's Ballroom & to the 1840's Carrolton Inn (used the bridal suite - Carrol suite) for making my wedding day perfect!
Great Venue and all of our guests LOVED it! I had researched and visited SEVERAL reception sites in Baltimore City. We fell in love with the eclectic space of the City Lites Floor! The rates and the fact that rental of space included tables and chairs was a HUGE bonus! Our guest count of 145 fit comfortably in this space. The beautiful flowers in the courtyard provided refreshing outdoor space. Great people to work with. Highly recommended. Historic city feel in the city, and NOT a hotel! PERFECT.
We were married at 1840s Ballroom in August and everything was perfect. Because I didn't have a wedding planner, Juan (the manager from 1840s) took over all of the timing on my wedding day. He even cut down flowers when we couldn't see the bridesmaids during the rehearsal. He made everything so easy, and allowed my new husband and I to truly enjoy our wedding!
I can not say enough good things about the 1840's Ballroom and the staff. They helped us organize an amazing Surprise Wedding! The staff was wonderful and helped us out with almost everything down to the little details. I would definitely recommend the 1840's to anyone who is planning an event.
