As a wedding photographer, I’ve been to many venues. 19N has charm, amazing staff, delicious food and a wow factor to check all the boxes! I am treated wonderfully by the staff, the correspondence is always fast. The interior of the venue, is wonderfully charming, yet feels intimate enough to make you feel like you’ve stumbled into a private, secret location that others don’t get the chance to experience. I’d highly recommend checking this place out, charm for days.
My fiancé and I discovered the hidden gem of 19 North by Froehlich's while initially visiting for a delightful breakfast at Froehlich's restaurant. We were thrilled to learn it doubles as a stunning wedding venue!
From the grandeur of the 8-foot chandelier and star-like pendant lights to the vintage charm of the ornate tin ceiling tiles, this venue marries historical preservation with modern elegance. The impressive wooden doors promise an unforgettable ceremony entrance, complemented by antique lounge sets and a private entrance through a picturesque glass atrium, perfect for a cocktail hour. The photos I'm including are frames from a video I took during the tour and they simply do not do this beautiful space justice!
As a Chicago couple seeking a beautiful wedding without the metropolitan price tag, we were thrilled by 19 North's proximity to Chicago and charming towns like Three Oaks, New Buffalo, and Michigan City. The all-inclusive experience, from the beautiful furnishings to the option of building a custom menu, means fewer details to manage and more time to enjoy the journey to our special day. There are also tons of walkable Airbnbs which will be great for us and our out-of-town guests.
The array of options and pricing transparency for catering and staffing have been impressive, reflecting the venue's commitment to ease and excellence. Drew, our point of contact, embodies professionalism and attentiveness, answering every query quickly with patience and insight.
For those on the market for a wedding venue that promises a seamless blend of historical allure and contemporary services, look no further. I wholeheartedly recommend scheduling a visit to 19 North by Froehlich's - a true embodiment of vintage elegance and an all-encompassing wedding experience.
We eagerly await our wedding day at this enchanting venue and are confident it will create memories that we and our guests will cherish forever!
19 North is an amazing venue. We were lucky enough to host our local High School Prom there. Even though we had a smaller event we were never made to feel less than important. Everything from the food to the staff...all top notch! We recommend them 1000% and will be booking our date next year for Prom!
I can’t express how happy we were with 19North from the moment we walked in seeing it the first time, to the last moments of our special night. Drew and Colleen made sure every detail was noted, and it felt personable each step of the way. We had looked at Journeyman and it didn’t feel the same way as it did meeting Drew and Colleen. Just visit Froehlichs for brunch or dinner and you’ll know what I mean. The store and restaurant are a special place, and that extends to their venue above too. Not only is it beautiful, but the additional spaces (which are not an additional cost) of the bridal suite and groom room gave our families areas to convene before and after wedding day events. Their vendors (Flower by Anna especially) we also all easy to work with and made our wedding stress free. I can’t even begin to talk about how our attendees raved about the food and desserts. They’re still talking about it 2 weeks later.
If I could give more than 5 starts I would. I think some of these reviews aren’t from the current owners/management in place now. Drew and Colleen CARE about your event. Colleen was present at midnight asking how our guests enjoyed the meals. All it takes is an email, text or call for the 19North to respond within 24-48 hours. They are top notch and I’m sorry for anyone that didn’t get to work with the fabulous team in place now.
My wife and I recently had our wedding and reception here at 19 North by Froehlich’s and we are thrilled with how everything went! Not only were we impressed with the day that was planned, but all our guests we’re extremely complimentary of the venue, their meals, the overall level of service. This venue is seriously stunning, the photos speak for themselves, but it’s the people here that really make this venue special. From day one, Drew and his team were wonderful to show us the space, walk us through contractual details, and what it would take to have the perfect wedding we envisioned. Everything was easy, transparent and everyone worked together to make our day special. Our wedding planner was complementary of the whole staff and appreciated working with you all!
We want to say a special thank you to all the folks who made our day go off without a hitch! Colleen, you did a tremendous job preparing an incredible multi course meal for our 200+ guests. It was the same meal we had at our tasting months prior and it’s amazing how easy you made it look. Every one of our family/friends we’ve talked to has raved out their meals. Drew knocked it out of the park with his tiered white cake, the small chocolate cakes and the macaroon assortments. It’s a game changer having a head baker as talented as Drew available to design your dessert table exactly as we wished. Bruce, thank you for being available to assist with day-of logistics and being available to make sure everything went according to plan! And to Clay and the entire staff that evening, thank you for making the night flow together so well. From the ceremony to cocktail hour, then dinner and dancing; the evening was seamless, and it allowed us to enjoy our wedding exactly as we had hoped.
You’re all incredible people and we thank you for giving us the wedding we always wanted. We can’t wait to return to Froehlich’s again and it’ll always hold a special spot in our hearts.
Beautiful wedding venue! Our daughter was extremely happy with her September wedding! With covid 19 we had to postpone a year............but everything worked out perfectly!
I've always been told to not judge a book by it's cover. This is a beautiful space and was hoping my dream wedding would have taken place here. However, this venue has been nothing short of a nightmare, from the beginning. And with this nightmare came 19 North taking our money with no services rendered, nor a dream wedding to even occur.
From lack of communication to overall unprofessional and unethical decisions made by the owners, I would highly encourage you to find another venue.
Trying to plan a wedding and work with them on our given budget what they asked. Instead of trying to work with our budget, as they said they would, they gave us a $50 min per person for food which is something we cannot afford. Gladly will be looking for a different venue. Why offer to help work in our budget if there's a set price?!
These people are crooks. Prior to Covid, they were unresponsive and unprofessional. Bruce was very hard to communicate with. We booked regardless because the space was beautiful, but from the beginning were concerned about the unprofessional nature of everyone we came in contact with.
After Covid, we decided to cancel our wedding and received ZERO compensation for any money, regardless of ZERO services that were given to us. We toured the space twice, never had a tasting, never had a consultation, and barely even had wedding correspondence and they kept over $6400 dollars (far more than the deposit). Because of how awful these people were, we still decided to move our wedding to Chicago and risk losing all of our money rather than work with these people. Do not book here.
All of the other vendors that we worked with in this time were incredible, and all of them refunded some of our money.
If I could give zero stars I would.
We had a 230 person wedding on March 14, 2020. We booked in April 2019 and in the 11 months of planning our wedding dealt with 3 different "coordinators," none of which handled the details of our wedding with professionalism. There was so much miscommunication and repetitiveness on details with both our ceremony and reception. I would be here typing for days if I listed everything that went wrong over the 11 month planning period. There was no tasting offered to us, and the food served to guests was subpar. Some plates were missing vegetables, and they ran out of beer before the cocktail hour was over. After explaining on several occasions that we had a party crowd, we were assured that more alcohol would be on hand, if needed to purchase in the restaurant's Beverage Boutique. This was not the case and our wedding planner and some members of our wedding party went to the nearest gas station to purchase more. It really is a shame because the space is beautiful. Our pictures are gorgeous and our band (Blue Water Kings) made up for all the shit that happened that night. We don't want any other couples to experience what we did. We're happy to provide more specific details to those who would like to know more.
When our original venue burned down, we were so lucky to have found Froehlich's. The space is strikingly beautiful for any event, especially weddings! From the rustic finishes to the compelling spaces, the venue is adorable. The giant chandelier and twinkling star lights made for a magical setting on our special day. I also have to give them two thumbs up for the opulent bridal suite which made us feel like we were getting married in a 5 star resort! I will say, I was slightly hesitant about hosting my wedding there after reading a less than flattering review, but I was assured that all the kinks we're worked out after a staffing change...and they were right! From the owners, to the planners and their amazing pastry chef (I think his name is Drew), they all went above and beyond our dreams. Our guests raved about the food and service, especially the desserts. So much so that we stopped by the bakery the next morning and pretty much bought one of everything for our trip back to Chicago. Thank you to all at Froehlich's for the memories of a lifetime!
This place is a beautiful waste.
Our experience was extremely similar to Doug B.'s. We spent a hellacious year dealing with three different event coordinators, one of which kept zero record of our dealings with Froehlich's (yes, you read that right — zero record of contracts, promises made, deposits made, etc.) so everything we were promised we had to fight for, tooth and nail.
When we finally had enough of emails and phone calls, we drove the 2.5 hours to Froehlich's from Illinois to lay everything out on the table (literally) and get everything sorted out. We brought the requested documents, proof of deposits, promises made by the aforementioned Event Coordinator who kept no records, etc. Instead of greeting this preparedness with open arms, they (owners of Froehlich's) treated us as though we weren’t being understanding of all THEY had been through, as if they were shocked we were treating this like the business transaction it always had been. I don't know about anyone else, but when you've got thousands of dollars on the line, you tend to come prepared.
Here are a few other highlights from our dealings with Froehlich's:
-As my father, mother & I were waiting to walk down the aisle in the kitchen (why in the kitchen you ask? Because the architectural layout of the venue only allowed myself (the bride) to exit the Bridal Suite either through the venue where I would be seen by all our guests, or through the kitchen where the owner was beginning prep for our dinner) Froehlich's owner made this snide remark at us, "wow, love the timing of everything right now."
-As previously mentioned, the only way to get out of the bridal suite unseen was through the kitchen. I had to quickly walk through again in order to walk outside & around the venue, to go up the stairs of the emergency exit to make a surprise appearance for my guests as I sang a song to my now husband. As I walked through the kitchen, Froehlich's owner barked at myself & my wedding planner, saying "What? Why? WHY are you in here again?" My planner calmly explained she'd cleared this with the owner's venue coordinator and he said it would be OK. The owner then dismissively waived her hand and said, "fine, just get out." Real nice as I'm about to perform for my wedding guests.
-Wrongfully accused our florist of property damage, despite the fact that she notified the Venue Coordinator of the pre-existing damage weeks prior & again the day of the wedding.
-Told our guests during the wedding there would be no coffee & tea service provided. When we showed them the contract that did in fact state we paid for & were contractually entitled to a $200 coffee & tea service, the Venue Coordinator brought up 1 coffee carafe, 20 bags of tea, & a pot of hot water.
There's SO much more I could go into detail about, but honestly it's emotionally exhausting to recount the awful moments spent planning our wedding with Froehlich's.
Honestly, the only reason everything went off without a hitch was because of our incredible wedding planner (1928 Planning Co. ).
The reason I chose to publish this review is to caution anyone else lured into Froehlich’s event space by the seemingly sweet, small-town front they display. If this review could prevent another couple from going through what we did, that would be enough. Newlyweds beware: there are so many other spaces you can wisely trust with your time, money, and happiness.
I suggest The Journeyman Distillery. I hear they do a wonderful job.
Beautiful venue but the food service and portions were very poor. Also. Extremely loud and very difficult to have any type of conversation
This wedding venue and its staff have been the worst experience in our wedding planning endeavors yet.
My fiancé reached out to 19 North’s Co-Owner Bruce McKamey on July 8th 2019 and received a quote of $5900 for the space. We arranged to meet with Bruce at the space, on a Sunday, in Three Oaks MI. We made the hour and a half drive to Three Oaks on July 28th. Unfortunately, we got stood up. Bruce wasn’t there and wasn’t reachable to show us the space or to discuss packages and pricing. An unfortunate waste of our time, gas, and our friend’s times as well.
July 8 we received a quote from Bruce for $5900 for the venue.
July 28th we drove an hour and a half to the venue and got stood up by Bruce, the co-owner and event planner.
July 29 Bruce emails updated pricing that explains that wedding planning was too stressful for them and that they now include a wedding planning service provided by White Dahlia and that their new venue fee is $10,700 but “all you have to worry about is what to wear.”
October 20 we went back to the venue to meet Bruce and see the space. Bruce didn’t recognize who we were or that he had previously communicated with us, let alone stood us up. He discussed all of the features of the space and the included features of White Dahlia including shuttle services to hotels and wedding venue accessories, like the Archway.
On October 20th, we discussed that the music stops at 10:45 and the want the venue emptied by 11pm. We discussed that Froehlichs has a venue called “The Social Club” across the street and that if we rented 19 North as our wedding space we could have our rehearsal dinner there and an after party as the 19 North venue closes early. Bruce verbally quoted us on the space that is “Normally rents for $1400 for 4 hours” but that if we did the rehearsal dinner there and the after party, in addition to renting the 19 north space for $10,700… he would include The Social Club “for $350 or $400” for the after party and would “check the numbers” on the rehearsal dinner.
October 22nd, The week after our visit we contacted White Dahlia to verify all of what was included, according to Bruce. Turns out, none of the equipment, decorations, shuttle, etc were included.
October 29th Bruce gave pricing of $10,700 for 19 north and $1500 for 4 hours of The Social Club, per night, and still would not verbalize what was or was not, explicitly, included in the rental fees.
The following Sunday, November 2nd 2019 a man named Alfred picked up the phone and introduced himself as the assistant event planner “working with Bruce.”
Alfred did reach back out, but his title had already changed from assistant to “Director of Catering and Events.” The venue was $10,700 and The Social Club was $1,500 per event, with the rehearsal dinner and after party being counted as 2 events. The after party was only 11pm to 1am. 2 hours and paying full price for the venue which is normally a 4 hour rental. Twice!
Summary:
From July to October the wedding venue fee changed 3 times.
Their verbal agreements hold no weight and are not honored.
They have no planning capacity and don’t respect people’s time or money.
They’re hiring people and promoting them to director positions in 24 hours.
There’s no guarantee that this venue will even be in business in 2021 let alone have a consistent or reliable staff to support your wedding
Steer clear of this catastrophe of a venue, owner, and staff.
Froehlich's hosted our wedding brunch the day after our big day. I cannot say enough amazing things about Bruce, Colleen, and their staff. The food was fantastic (avocado toast, you guys!!!!) and the space was jaw-droppingly gorgeous. We totally blew through our budget hosting our wedding the night before, and were nervous about decorating such a big space for the brunch. But we hardly had to do a thing--the table and chairs were stunning by themselves. A few candles later and--ta-da--amazing.
Bruce was there for us every step of the way, coordinating a menu that was specially-tailored for guests with dietary restrictions but also freaking delicious. Colleen has truly put together a business that makes Three Oaks, Michigan, a destination. You'd be a fool not to have your special event here!!!
This venue is soo gorgeous. It’s a good combination of modern/ industrial/ barnwood. The outside and the inside stand out like nothing we’ve seen. We’ve already recommended several of our friends to get married here or at least have the reception. We had a mishap at our original venue and Froehlich’s helped us whip our ceremony and reception in the same room together in about 2 months! We were only the second wedding in the space, so there were definitely some kinks needing to be worked out, but recent feedback from others sounds like they’ve definitely done that! Love the town, and loved the venue & food that all played into our best day ever. Go see this venue, you’ll understand!
