Olivia was a fanatic about perfection and getting every detail right with my alterations. Every fitting was simple, quick and pleasant. One of the best things she did was replace the cups that came with the dress, with push up cups, so that I didn't have to worry about my taping my boobs to get them to sit right.
She also filmed how to hitch my bustle, which made it simple for my MOH and mom to do on my wedding day.
I went to A Stitch In Time” on a recommendation from a friend, the dress was brand new and in my usual size. Olivia charged me $800 for a full bridal gown alterations which I paid in full at the end of the first consultation.
It feels that she had taken on too many clients, but from this point on the process felt very rushed with each fitting taking no more than 15 minutes and I always got the feeling that she was in a hurry to get me out and onto the next customer.
I shared a concern that the dress might be too long and that I was worried about falling in it during the ceremony or my first dance. She insisted it was fine but agreed to take it up another inch at my insistence. She did not mark this change on the dress or take any additional measurements. I did these sessions in the actual heels I wore for the wedding, so nothing changed there to alter my height.
Approximately ten days before my wedding I asked to try the dress on one more time (4th) bc I was concerned that I had gained a couple of pounds. Initially scheduling this appointment was really difficult and I had to push to get her to do it. When I went to try the dress on the alterations from previous visits were not completed yet which I found concerning given we were less than two weeks out but she insisted that I didn't have anything to worry about and that I did not need to come back to try on the dress once the alterations were made.
I took her word for that which was my biggest mistake.
In total she had my dress for over four months between the first session and when it was 'ready' which was five days before the wedding. Though as mentioned above less than two weeks out things like the hem were not done yet.
Fast forward to the wedding day and as I had feared the dress was too long causing me to step on it while walking and dancing. I was visibly shaking because I felt I was going to fall in front of my friends and family which is not what any bride wants to be worrying about on her big day.
Fortunately I didn't fall, but having spent a fair amount of money altering the dress to fit me properly I felt I should reach out and flag the issues I had. I even shared a video of my dance where you could see me clearly stepping on the hem.
This is unfortunately where things took a turn and instead of taking any kind of accountability Olivia started to gaslight me.
First she told me that I didn't put the dress on correctly.. I questioned how is this possible given it was a simple strapless dress where it was zipped all the way up and all clasps were closed.
She then switched to saying it must have been because I lost weight since the adjustments... Again not true. I went to see her a fourth time because I wanted to check if it fitted well with a few extra pounds I had put on, not lost. I have an app attached to my scale so I showed her my weight had not gone down at all in that time period.
So she then decided to blame the fact that during one of my dances I had removed the decorative sleeves which was really grasping at straws because they are decorative items that drape half-way down my upper arms and would offer no support. Also I wore them during the ceremony and other dances where I also was having the same issue walking down the aisle and dancing.
I told her this and she got angry and told me “I don’t have time for this”, she offered to have her local dry cleaner clean the dress, but no admission of fault nor offer to remedy the situation.
I'm so happy a friend recommended I go to A Stitch in Time Bridal Services and have Anne do my wedding dress alterations. She was fun to work with, explained things clearly, and did amazing work. She answered all my questions honestly, listened to what I wanted, and made my dress look amazing. I got so many compliments that the dress looked like it was made for me and so much of that is because of Anne!
Olivia is AMAZING! She made my wedding gown (made some adjustments and added a bustle) and reception dress (pretty much transformed it by adjusting the length/width, bow size and location, and more) absolutely perfect. Also fixed my veil. All of the material was difficult to work with, including “horsehair” and silk faille. You can tell she’s passionate about her work and really cares about her brides. She’s soo skilled, sweet, and also provides honest advice on accessories/heels etc. to make sure your final look is the best it could be. Thank you Olivia!!
Wow wow wow to Anne for restoring my dream wedding dress (that was so out of my price range that I bought the sample) to looking brand new!!! She did a job so perfect, no one knew the condition I bought it in! The designer even reposted a photo of it never knowing I'd bought it with rips and tears.
It fit wonderfully, and I'm very happy with how the train was able to be tucked up into an elegant bustle. Forever grateful! ♥️
Olivia was such a lifesaver. I had a bit of a dress disaster and ended up having to find a new dress ~6 weeks before my wedding. She jumped in to save the day and fit me into her already full schedule for alterations on my new dress, and everything worked out perfectly! She was so kind and fun to work with. You can tell she truly cares about her clients. I would trust her with any important piece!
Thank you so much to Olivia, she did an amazing job altering my wedding dress. I had a custom dress with a beautiful cream chiffon skirt hand painted with flowers in vivid blues and oranges all up and down the skirt, and even though the skirt was long, I didn’t want to lose any of the beautiful designs. Olivia found a way to tack the skirt so that we didn’t have to cut any of it off! I felt amazing all night long.
Olivia did an amazing job with my dress alterations! I was nervous going into the alterations process but Olivia made me feel at ease from the beginning! Each of our fittings was smooth and I had so much confidence when I picked up my dress at the end knowing that it would fit perfectly. Thank you Olivia!
Olivia was fantastic to work with! My dress fit like a glove and was perfect. She was very organized and set all of my fitting dates up front, which I found very helpful. She was also able to accommodate appointments on the weekend since I could not make it during weekday business hours due to work. In addition to alterations for my dress, she also made me a veil that matched the color of my dress perfectly and was gorgeous! Go with Olivia and you will be in very good hands!!!
I would give Olivia 10 stars if I could. She did an amazing job on my dress which was not easy to alter - 3 layers of crepe on the bottom and a completely lace bodice that was too big and had to be taken apart by hand. Not only did she do a great job, but she was so personable and friendly. I always looked forward to my appointments and getting to catch up with her. She took tons of photos for me to send to my mom who lives on the other side of the country. And she even accommodated me when I messed up and came on the wrong day - saving me a lot of time from having to drive through LA traffic to come back. Also witnessed her helping another bride get a mystery stain out of her dress that appeared after hanging in the closet for some time due to covid postponement. A miracle worker! Highly recommend!
I came to this place thinking it was going to be beautiful and a trustworthy place after seeing their Instagram page, the knot, and being referred to them by the place where I bought my dress! I had called them before making an appointment asking for pricing and they gave me a price that I could work with so I decided to book an appointment. The day came for my appointment and I brought my mother and father who where there because they wanted to be part of this special moment and the lady who was going to alter my dress was not happy about it. We walked in she started to cut my dress and started to pin it and this entire time I was asking her about pricing and she wouldn’t tell me. At the very end she tells me a complete different price out of my budget, and was being very pushy about me paying everything up front in cash!!! I couldn’t do that and I politely told her several times that I am not able to go through with it, and after telling her several ways that I was not able to pay the amount she told me in the end ( KEEP IN MIND that these are basic alterations) she gave a huge, rude, nasty attitude, making me feel low of myself telling me I wasted her time and zipped my dress back up half way and walked away. I was in shock, I was hurt, and couldn’t believe what had happened. When it comes to weddings and planning for that special day this place didn’t care about that, they only care about the money. At least that’s how they made me feel. I went home crying and decided to look up Yelp reviews on this place something I highly recommend and the reviews are horrible and hearing other brides go through worst made me feel upset and sad for them but thankful that I didn’t go through with having her alter my dress! BRIDES just because something looks beautiful and a place makes it seem like they take care of you don’t trust it right away! From the reviews I read it seems as if they don’t even do the alterations themselves. Just be careful and I wouldn’t recommend this place at all.
A Stitch In Time was invaluable in tailoring my wedding dress. Anne is a complete professional, she was easy to work with, and I was thrilled with the result. She even suggested adding a bejeweled waistline, and it created a natural waist that highlighted my figure and broke up the dress beautifully. She also created a foolproof bustle, I danced for hours and it held up fantastically!
Olivia is the best! She was easily reachable and flexible with her schedule throughout the entire alterations process (even when Brentwood was under an evacuation threat due to wildfires!), and always made me feel relaxed and at ease. She patiently listened to all of my needs and anxieties -- allowing me to come in for an extra appointment to ensure my dress was just the right length. And most important of all, Olivia created a gorgeous, perfectly draped bustle that I received many compliments on throughout my reception! I can't imagine going anywhere else for my bridal alterations, and would recommend A Stitch in Time to any LA bride! (I also purchased my veil from here, and thus can recommend their bridal accessories as well!)
Working with Olivia from A Stitch in Time was so lovely. My dress is from Australia and has a very different lace embroidery on it, so I was very nervous about who I would let do my alterations. The boutique where I got my dress from recommended ASIT, and I'm so happy I drove the extra distance every fitting to use them. She had to take the dress in a bit around the waist and the sleeves, and the end product fit absolutely perfectly. It was so snug and perfect looking in pictures, but still had room to move and dance. She did the adjustments over multiple fittings, with only minor adjustments at time instead of doing too much at once. Olivia also had the eye to figure out how to bussle my dress down low instead of up high so that the beautiful details along the back of the dress wouldn't be covered up. Lastly, during the fitting to hem the length of the dress, Olivia encouraged me to bring multiple pairs of shoes so that I could see what I liked best. She helped me pick out the shoes and gave me her opinions about jewelry and hair pieces too. Every fitting was like chatting with one of my friends over the dress details, which made it that much more enjoyable.
Olivia is simply amazing, there are no other words! I came to her just over a month out from my wedding which is cutting it VERY close, and she was able to make multiple alterations to my Emmy Mae wedding dress, as well as make me a beautiful cathedral length veil for a very reasonable price. I'm so glad I purchased my veil from here and didn't spend hundreds of dollars from a wedding dress store because realistically I maybe wore it for an hour of our entire wedding. It was super windy during our ceremony and after that I was pretty much over the veil. I'm just bummed I don't have many pictures in it. Olivia hemmed my dress, changed out the straps, took out the boning, closed up the slit a few inches, created a bustle for me, and made me a veil, all in this short timeframe and all of it looked amazing! She made my dress my absolute dream dress by making these slight tweaks and changes. I can truly say she made my dress visions come to life! Olivia is professional, friendly, and organized. She always made me feel comfortable during appointments and had great suggestions as well. I also ended up purchasing some hair pins from her that completed my look the day of! I would recommend Olivia to everyone, she is the best in this industry!
My mom is a seamstress and can sew so there was a very watchful eye on my dress. Olivia was great throughout this process. She made me feel comfortable at every appointment and fixed everything that wasn't fitting quite right. My mom didn't even have to voice any concerns.
Honestly, thank god for Olivia! She was a dream to work with throughout the alterations process, and helped tweak my stunning dress into a perfect stunning dress for my big day. Olivia was so patient and kind throughout the entire process. She’s just the absolute best!
Olivia is the best! She was thorough, relaxed, and took great care to make sure my dress fit perfectly and comfortably. It is great to be in the hands of a true professional. Their studio is bright and airy and their attention to detail is impeccable. No plans to get married again ;-P but if I did, they would be my go-to for dress alterations. I am obsessed with my wedding dress and despite how delicate the lace is, it held up nicely throughout the day thanks to Olivia.
Olivia is a miracle worker! After my “custom” gown was delivered not so custom she completely reworked the entire top half of the gown to ensure I was a happy bride on my wedding day. Genius bustling system ensured I was able to dance the night way. Thank you thank you thank you!
My husband and I were married at The Villa SJC this spring and A Stitch in Time did my alterations. Lovely Bride, where I’d found my gown, referred Olivia and Anne. Olivia was warm, funny and professional. We met three times and she did a wonderful job transforming a beautiful dress into my beautiful dress.
Olivia attached the sleeves, added clasps to the bodice, and took in, shortened and hemmed the skirt. She also added a sturdier bustle. No easy task given the embellishments and delicate lace of an Anna Campbell gown. The look was complete with a gorgeous veil from Olivia’s collection. I felt amazing on my big day and she was an absolute pleasure to work with. Thank you, Olivia!
Wow, this shop is just amazing. Olivia is SO wonderful, so sweet, and did an incredible job hemming my (very detailed lace applique) dress at a very very reasonable price. My dress came out beautiful and it was always fun going to have a fitting- just a great experience all around. Thank you so much Olivia!!! You're the best! Recommend this shop 100%
Olivia was amazing! My dress turned out so beautifully, and she was so accommodating when I asked for one extra appointment to make sure I felt good about everything. She even helped me make a special handkerchief for my sister, which was her idea and turned out so beautifully. I'm still getting compliments on my dress, and more importantly, could move around and dance freely all night at my wedding without being uncomfortable or having to change. Thank you so much!!
Olivia at a Stitch in Time was the greatest! She and her brilliant mother helped me figure out how to alter the neckline of my dress to be exactly what I wanted, and made sure I felt comfortable and beautiful at every fitting. I loved my dress when I bought, but A Stitch in Time made it a work of art! Reasonable priced and just so lovely to work with, cannot recommend them highly enough.
I used a Stitch In Time for my wedding dress alterations for my wedding in September 2016. I really loved how you paid a flat rate for the alterations, there were no financial surprises. I worked with Olivia who was so wonderful, she was very flexible with accommodating my busy schedule, was very easy to talk to during each of our appointments, and even fixed my veil that I bought on etsy free of charge! I felt totally comfortable with her and even trusted her taking a scissor to the bottom of my tulle skirt :) I highly recommend A Stitch In Time!
Olivia at a Stitch in Time was great to work with. While a little pricey with a set fee, her work was exceptional and came with unlimited fittings. I went in for 4 fittings, and my dress fit like a dream. She worked with me to redesign a feature of my neckline of my gown and impeccably tailored my lace sleeves. She was also so sweet, and worked with me to pick out the best jewelry for my gown, and helped save my veil that had been terribly crumpled in shipping. Many people told me my dress was the highlight of the wedding, and it was in great part due to Olivia.
I was SO lucky to get to work with Anne. She was kind, professional, timely and SO knowledgeable. I was knew my dress and I were in good hands and it came out perfect. Even this big task - the dress was heavy, mostly beaded and a lot of layers. Even with all that alteration she needed to do it was always on time and a fit I was comfortable with and looked great! Thank you Anne!
Olivia was friendly, professional, prompt and did a fantastic job on my Claire Pettibone gown. I highly recommend A Stitch in Time and thought that the fee was nominal for the amount of time and 3 sizing alterations required. Thank you olivia!!! It fit perfect! Kimberly
I was very often frustrated to work with A Stitch in Time. More often than not, my appointments would be rescheduled within 24 hours of the appointment time. Although it was due to a personal medical emergency, I was extremely frustrated to find that I was not even contacted about an appointment that I kept and A Stitch in Time simply did not show up/was closed. This is after I drove 1 hour, at least, each way, to my appointment, and paid to park. I also had quite a few more appointments than I expected, initially (more driving and parking). Anne herself seemed quite knowledgeable and professional about what we were able to accomplish with my dress. My alterations came out on time and incredibly well done, and the dress fit me flawlessly. We had several discussions of how to wear and store both my dress and veil, and decided to not alter the hem in favor of slightly higher shoes. In the end, the job was well done (I valued it at what I paid), the people were pleasant, and I trusted them with my dress; however, if I were selecting a seamstress again I would have chosen someone closer to my home, and try to select one with repute for staying on schedule with appointments.
Ann Fiser made the alterations on my dress and she did a marvelous job. I saw her for 5 fittings throughout 4 months to make alterations on my wedding gown. She made it fit perfectly and was kind and supportive through the whole process. The fee is pretty steep, but it's definitely quality being paid for.
Olivia is very sweet and did a great job with altering my dress; however I did find her fee to be a bit steep...$500 flat rate - almost as much as my dress! I had very little altering done, but same fee. I was happy with the results though so didn't mind too much paying it.
I got my wedding dress fitted by Olivia, and she was so wonderful. I met with her 4 times, which gave me time to figure out what I really wanted. She was patient with me and gave me different options for everything (different bussle options, etc.). She also charges a flat rate, which is nice to have in advance since there are so many moving targets budget-wise when planning a wedding. I highly recommend!
I purchased my Vera Wang gown at the Glamour Closet in LA (review also posted here). The lovely ladies who sold me my princess wedding dress told me there was one place to go for alterations. Anne. "But make sure you start the process as soon as possible because she'll be busy come the holidays because of Oscar season..." WUT?!
All I had was a cell phone number. And when I first spoke with Anne I was in love immediately. She's an older French woman and having lived in Paris for three years growing up, I felt comfortable with her from the get go. I think I had four appointments with her, and apart from my excitement of wanting to get in the dress each time, I was always excited to see Anne. She was genuinely interested in me, my life, how I met my future husband, etc. And she has a beautiful boutique, to boot.
I didn't even know I wanted a belt for my dress until she put one on and voila. Parfait! The coolest part about Anne is she is in business with her daughter Olivia who does all the fancy embellishments, including the belt I purchased to go with the dress. I wish I could post a picture here. They are an amazing team and I cannot thank them enough for making the dress even more amazing than it was initially off the hanger.
I must add after our 4th appointment I thought I was picking up my dress and walking out with it. Apparently I was wrong and we were to have another appointment later that week. Only problem was, I was leaving town a week before my wedding and I apparently hadn't relayed this to Anne. GULP! Well she kicked it into high gear and finished my dress that day and then HAND DELIVERED IT TO MY HUSBAND that very night. Anne went above and beyond the call of duty and I'm so appreciative. She's amazing. Don't go anywhere else.
