I had been debating on writing a review for months now but decided I should as a warning for other brides.. I was very disappointed with my experience using Joy and had much higher expectations. I felt very stressed leading up in the last few weeks to the wedding which was the whole reason I hired her in the first place. She screwed up more times than I could possibly count. The day was still wonderful and best day ever but when you spend hundreds of hours working on special details that are not executed it’s disappointing.. and brings into question why you spent a thousand + dollars for a bad coordinator? My biggest regret is not spending a bit more for a better one… here are some of the big disappointments - she failed to instruct our ushers on how to do their job, neither usher ushered people to their seats and none of the programs were handed out! Hundreds of dollars were spent on them and not to mention hours wasted.. also because of this none of our family sat in the first 2 rows of our ceremony where we had reserved their seats LOL so some of the shots of our ceremony look like nobody was there! She also majorly failed on sending out our timeline in a timely fashion - it went out the day of rehearsal/ day before our wedding. The timeline was also put together by me entirely so I have no idea what took so long! My MOH and best man got the timeline on the way to rehearsal LOL and it was also the wrong version…. I think she corrected and sent out the right version a couple hours later but boy did it stress me out! Nobody in our wedding party had any idea where they were supposed to be and when as a result! Even on the wedding day there was confusion the guys were dropped off at the wrong spot and none of them knew it! The transportation company clearly never got our timeline and dropped them off at the wrong spot. As a result my bridesmaids were all stranded w/o a ride and not dropped off for photos.. my parents had to shuttle them to the ceremony. I kept getting feedback from vendors throughout the weeks and days leading up to the wedding that they hadn’t heard from her. So I doubt she ever confirmed the drop off pickup information. This whole hiccup threw off our entire timeline to where I had to take wedding party photos during the entire cocktail hour.. which was not at all what we had planned. There were tons of other small things like our photo booth props not making it out to the dance floor as requested.. or the name tags for head table not being placed. Oh and some of the items she brought weren’t what was advertised on her list and didn’t match photos like the easels for my signs. It ruined the entire look of the expensive signs I had made because the easels were very cheap and ugly looking. If I had known that I would have bought my own… there are other little things but no need to list them all. Our MOH and best man are both married & have been in a bunch of weddings and were shocked by all her mistakes.. said they had seen nothing like it and she seemed way in over her head. Maybe she took on too many weddings on that month?
Anything but zen Joy had both my husband and myself fooled. Leading up to the wedding she was fabulous. The most important thing to us was not being stressed and having our dream wedding. We didn’t want to have to think about anything or lift a finger day of. My wedding was anything but a fairy tale. Aside from a lot of personal things happening that weekend ie: both my father and his grandmother almost dying, our apartment flooding and our washing machine breaking. Joy has a HUGE apart in why our wedding was a disappointment. I don’t appreciate being blamed for not “hiring professionals “ ( and that is why our wedding was a disaster ) when in fact she is a professional and we hire two people of her choosing to help with set up, break down and taking care of our fur baby. Aside from our drunk dj who also has a HUGE factor as to why our wedding was also ruined but he was a 4.9 star dj. She blamed US for why everything went wrong. She blamed my photographer for why things went wrong. She took zero responsibility and showed zero remorse and did not apologize for her behalf of why things went wrong. My favorite thing that went wrong was that we talked about having the wedding live streamed because a lot of people couldn’t travel. But especially last minute my dad ended up in the hospital. Even though we had all of this set up IN ADVANCE 5 minutes I was about to walk down the aisle I had to ask her “ don’t you need my phone for the live stream?” Joy:” someone told me we weren’t doing that because your dad wasn’t doing well” Also, despite talking about decorations in detail. The pumpkins that were suppose to be lining that aisle were not there. The boutonnières never made it on the guys. Nor did my ring bearer have the carriage I made. Joy had a detailed packing list. Along with pictures of everything. All of the boxes were Labeled. Her excuse was “ everything was so pretty and we didn’t know “ so you’re telling me that my pictures and detailed packing list and labeled boxes weren’t enough? She then said that we’ll there were only enough pumpkins for the tables to which I told her yes and they were suppose to go down the aisle.
The title of this company Zen is the definition of how you feel working with Joy. She is very sincere and really cares about your big day. Joy was an absolute pleasure to work with. She really goes above and beyond your planning expectations. I didn’t think I needed a planner, but our venue required it and now I don’t know what I would have done without Joy she really took a lot of stress off of me and made sure everything was perfect! I highly recommend using Joy and her services at A Zen Event!! Thank you for making our day an unforgettable experience!!

I am a pretty type-A person, so at first when we were required by our venue to book a wedding planner, I wasn’t sure how much I would need them. Let me tell you all right now – everyone needs a wedding planner, even us type-A brides! And Joy did an amazing job! We hired Joy almost a year out for the Day-of Coordination, meaning she took over planning from me around the 6-week out mark. Even though technically she only was supposed to take over at the 6-week mark, she made time to set up a call with me once a month for the nearly full year prior to the wedding! She made sure things were going along smoothly, and gave me great vendor recommendations whenever I needed them. She was very responsive to emails, and the planning website she gave us to use was INVALUABLE for planning guest lists and table assignments and arrangements.
Joy also has a large inventory of wedding décor items that she lets her brides use – AT NO ADDITIONAL COST. Things like table numbers, votives, vases, greenery, crystal flutes, card box, picture frames, candles… the list goes on! For a non-local and ecofriendly bride like myself, this service was amazing! Not only did I not have to purchase these single-use wedding items, but I didn’t have to be in charge of getting them to the venue! Joy completely handled the set up of the reception with minimal guidance from myself, and it looked stunning! She sent photos of the set up to my MOH so I could see how things were going. At the end of the night, she made sure all of the décor was collected and any personal items that I contributed were all back in our suite at the end of the night, without me having to lift a finger or coordinate anything!
Joy is so nice and was so lovely to work with for our wedding. Joy helped the day go completely smoothly – if there were problems, I never heard of them, and the day went great! Joy did an amazing job, handling small details that I never would have even thought of, down to making sure there was a small plate of appetizers set aside for the Groom and I while we were busy taking photos and mingling! Do yourself a favor, and hire Joy for your wedding!
My husband and I came down to Hilton Head Island from Pennsylvania to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We were also looking to renew our wedding vows. Joy did our ceremony and was incredible. She was so accessible via email considering we were states away. Joy provided me with great recommendations in the area including: hair, makeup, restaurants, etc. She went out of her way to make our day special! Joy’s photographer, Ryan, was amazing. He was so creative and fun, and our pictures look fantastic. My husband and I both highly recommend Joy and her team of professionals for any special occasion.
