Abbington Distinctive Banquets is a newly refreshed wedding venue located in Glen Ellyn, IL. This setting is defined by its undeniable elegance, down to its finest details and decor. Its photogenic ballrooms, high-quality cuisine, and attentive service will be sure to make your special day unforgettable.
Abbington Distinctive Banquets was first established in 2002, and is owned and operated by the dedicated Fabbri family. They have decades of experience in the wedding planning industry, dating back to 1969, and strive to make all couples feel welcome at their venue. Located in the suburbs of Chicago, this secluded property boasts stunning architecture inside and out, to give your ceremony and reception a fairytale ending. Weddings from 150 up to 800 guests can be easily accommodated in their multiple ballrooms and pre-gathering areas. Delicate crystal chandeliers hang from the ceilings, adding a sophisticated aesthetic to any nuptial theme. Each space features large windows decorated with romantic drapery, to provide both outside views and plenty of natural light. Double doors lead from the pre-function space to the ballroom, to give you a grand entrance to your reception. Guests can be seated around the spacious Maplewood dance floor, for an easy transition from dinner to dancing. Dressing suites are also available onsite, where you and your wedding party can prepare in luxury.
The team’s professional wedding planners will work alongside you and help you achieve your dream theme. Their detailed table arrangements, full-length linens, and Chiavari chairs will be arranged into any formation you prefer. From your cocktails to your wedding cake, the onsite catering team will customize your menu to complete your nuptial vision. The onsite staff of greeters, servers, and bartenders will be present during your day, to ensure you and your guests are properly cared for.

- Louis FabbriExecutive PresidentFate gave a little push when a family friend invited Lou to join him in the banquet business as co-owner of Mar Lac House. As an eager young accountant turned banquet businessman, Lou produced thousands of magnificent events featuring homemade Italian specialties. He is responsible for creating the legacy of excellence that followed from Oak Park to Glen Ellyn in 2002. Lou currently acts as president of the Abbington, maintaining the books and making sure the facility glimmers and gleams. Lou continues to be an active member of his community, bringing repeat business to the Abbington year after year. A long-time member of Oak Park River Forest Rotary and Rotary International, Lou attends weekly meetings and annual events across the globe. After years of hosting events at Mar Lac House and Abbington Distinctive Banquets, Lou’s favorite event is a quiet Christmas Eve dinner with his wife, their three sons, and their families. - Michael J. FabbriExecutive Vice PresidentAs the son of the Abbington’s president and an experienced businessman, Mike takes the lead in the front of the house operations. Having grown up in the family business, he focuses on honest practices, mindfulness, and meticulous care for our guests. As a young adult, Mike left the family business to pursue a degree in business administration and marketing.But in September 1989, he returned to join the team as general manager. When the Fabbri family moved the business to Glen Ellyn in May of 2002, Mike took on his current role and has been here since. When Mike isn’t at the Abbington, you will find him enjoying a quiet night in with his darling wife, enjoying a scrumptious, homemade Italian dinner. When he finds time, Mike takes pleasure in treating his wife and family to local attractions and tropical vacations.
- Tara KubickiGeneral ManagerWith twenty years of experience in the event industry, Tara is confident, meticulous, and a master of change – truly an influential asset to the team. A small-town country girl, Tara moved to the Chicagoland area to work as a banquet server at a local hotel. Through years of experience in serving and bartending, Tara worked her way to the front office where she became a sales assistant and found her passion After 10 years as a sales manager at the Abbington, Tara was promoted to director of sales and catering and then in 2016, to general manager.Having built her career in Chicagoland, Tara is an expert on preferred vendors – including decorators, florists, photographers, disc jockeys and many more. Her favorite part of event management is guiding clients through the planning process. When Tara isn’t at the office you can find her feet up, glass of red wine in hand, lounging on her backyard patio dreaming of sandy Caribbean beaches with her husband. - Kathy KoutsogiannisSenior Catering Sales ManagerKathy brings a plethora of knowledge and experience in hospitality, banquets, and sales to our team. She is a true gem. Her care for customers and respect for the business are two of her brightest characteristics. Kathy left her first day in the banquet industry with three blisters, $11 in tips, and thought, “this is crazy! I can’t do this job!” But now, forty years later, Kathy is a peerless member of our team with an understanding of multiple positions in the industry. From simple holiday parties and other social events to epic Quinceaneras and wedding receptions, Kathy enjoys every part of the event planning process. Kathy loves getting to know her clients, so she knows the whole story: from the ring to the proposal, and all details of planning. When Kathy isn’t at the Abbington you will find her enjoying early breakfasts at Butterfield’s with her beloved husband. The couple also enjoys road trips to visit their granddaughters, caring for their home, cuddling on the couch and watching reruns of NYPD Blue.
- Victoria SpizzirriCatering Sales ManagerWith a heavy Italian background and love for all things food and beverage, Victoria had always known that she would fall into a facet of the hospitality industry. She attended Johnson and Wales University in Denver, CO, is a classically trained chef and holds a degree in Event and Meeting Management. After coming up in the off-premise catering world starting off as a floor captain and making her way into sales, she has a plethora of knowledge and experience in all sorts of areas related to events and functions. Seeing a ballroom go from empty to fully set and decorated is one of the reasons she loves what she does in addition to helping create the absolute perfect day for someone. From breath taking mountain weddings to modern city affairs to classically beautiful ballroom events, she strives to make each event everything it can possibly be. Outside of work, Victoria loves spending time with her fiancé, her dog Mochi and creating memories with her friends and family. Whether it’s wine making, traveling or cooking a meal for 10 (that’s really for 2, thank the Italian grandmother’s ways) she tries to make the most of her time outside of the events world.

She graduated with a bachelor’s in hospitality management from Kendall College, in Chicago. She is no stranger to high-pressure environments and has a proven track record of delivering flawless, executed events that exceed client expectations. - Nick LandeweerExecutive ChefChef Landeweer’s culinary journey began in Chicago, where he trained under the legendary Michelin star chefs Charlie Trotter of Charlie Trotters and Jean Joho of the Everest Room during the 1980s and 1990s. Before making his mark in Naperville, Chef Landeweer honed his skills at the Northbrook Hilton, where he developed a reputation for his exceptional culinary talent. In his new role at The Abbington Banquets, Chef Landeweer will be introducing an array of exciting new dishes that reflect his rich culinary background and creative vision. Guests can look forward to an elevated dining experience, with menu offerings that combine classic techniques with contemporary flair.
- Robert FabbriOwner/ChefChef Rob seasons the team with over twenty-five years of experience in hospitality and kitchen management. He works zealously to provide the highest quality food and beverages; the key that sets the Abbington above and beyond our competition. In 1987, Chef Rob began his career as the co-owner of the Mar Lac House with his father and brother. When the business moved to Glen Ellynin 2002, Rob assumed the position of executive chef. When Chef Rob isn’t managing the Abbington kitchens, he enjoys playful afternoons with his wife and sons. Each year, Rob raises support for and participates in “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes”. His favorite family recipe – Chicken Toscano with Vesuvio-style Potatoes– was featured in the Daily Herald in April 2005.

Monica, our main point of contact, was exceptional from start to finish. She answered every question clearly, professionally, and in a timely manner. Her communication gave us such peace of mind throughout the process, something that’s truly invaluable when you’re planning one of the most important days of your life! Booking our tour was easy and completely stress-free.
When we first toured the venue, we immediately fell in love. The elegant chandeliers, gold chairs, and fresh carpeting made the space stunning on its own, perfectly fitting our modern, timeless, and minimalist vision without needing excessive décor. The large, clean, and beautifully maintained restrooms were another pleasant surprise. We held our ceremony on the grand staircase and our reception in the ballroom, and both spaces were absolutely perfect. Packages and pricing were presented openly and transparently, which we really appreciated.
On the day of our wedding, every staff member we encountered went above and beyond to ensure our day was flawless. Monica and our room captain were especially amazing; calm, professional, and genuinely invested in making sure everything went smoothly. Whenever nerves started to kick in, Monica was right there to keep things on track. The day flowed perfectly, even better than we could have imagined.
The food was another highlight! Our tasting months prior was wonderful, but the chef somehow exceeded expectations on the actual day, our guests couldn’t stop raving about the meal. Plus, all our other vendors were familiar with Abbington, which made coordination effortless and stress-free.
We can’t recommend Abbington Distinctive Banquets highly enough! They made our wedding day everything we dreamed of and more. We’re already looking forward to celebrating future milestones here, maybe an anniversary party down the road!

On the wedding day, Chase went above and beyond to take care of us. He made sure my husband and I were actually eating (which can be so hard on a wedding day!), kept our glasses full all night, and even packed up so many of our things at the end of the evening. We felt truly taken care of.

We had a rather sizable wedding and when looking at the room availability and our intended spend amount, Monica offered us extra space and a way to utilize it elegantly. She worked with us on custom experiences outside of their packages and helped us with pricing on the packages of theirs we did use. On top of that, their foods are all top quality for very reasonable pricing when compared to similar venues. The only downfall on the night was that of the 8 bottles of a liquor we brought, only 2 got used because the bar staff was unaware of the remaining 6 in their storage.

The space is BEAUTIFUL (it recently had some awesome renovations done, which we were lucky enough to experience) and all of our guests raved about how nice it was. Chase was our host for the evening and he took great care of us. He made sure we ate, had drinks, and checked in on to make sure everyone was going smoothly. Guests LOVED the food, and after doing months of research we were over the moon with the venue that we went with. We enjoyed that Abbington Banquets included things that not all venues do (cake, linens, etc) because it made it so much easier during the planning process. much is included it's so helpful!!! The cake and centerpieces were included (and both vendors they work with for those were incredible). They also provide a list of recommended vendors they've worked with for other aspects of the wedding. You can purchase late night snacks through them as well as a plethora of different cocktail hour add-ons and we chose to utilize their candy station offering for favors (huge hit)! They have so many options!! Now onto the organization, amazing! The original point of contact we had went on maternity leave and chose to stay home with her baby, so we were switched to someone new about 4 months before our wedding. You would've never known! The notes they all take must be incredible because Tara picked up our wedding as if we'd been working with her the whole time. She was up to date on all the details of our wedding! The communication leading up to the event was wonderful - very timely and answered all our questions! Now onto the wedding itself! WOW! All of the staff were so kind and so helpful - Tara was there the whole day to help facilitate everything and keep us on schedule. Everyone was so extra attentive to us as well as our parents to ensure we were all taken care of. Nothing but great feedback from everyone involved on how well the venue took care of us and ensured our day went smoothly! Could not recommend enough!

Planning a wedding from abroad is normally so difficult, but because of our awesome coordinator Kathy, we were able to get everything we dreamed of, exactly the way we wanted it to be. We were even able to make arrangments such as a square family table in front of the head table, and we were given access to the bridal rooms and private bathroom as well, which was helpful. Their list of recommended vendors also helped make floral arrangements and cake planning a breeze!
It's been two months since our wedding, and our guests still talk about how genuinely delicious the food was (even down to the coffee!), how attentive the staff was, how nice and big the dancefloor was, and simply how beautiful and elegant the event looked. My husband and I couldn't be happier with our decision to have our wedding here. I really can't recommend this place enough! If you're looking to book a wedding or any other party, this is the best place to do it!

s elegance (I absolutely loved the north ball room which features oversized windows allowing beautiful natural lighting, oversized chandeliers, and neutral color tones blending that blended well with our color palette. We also loved the fact that they have an option to host the ceremony in a separate room from the reception which was an absolute must for me, I am very particular and a little hard to deal with at times due to my over attention to detail and wanting every single detail preplanned and perfectly executed. Tara my venue coordinator was very accommodating to my "type A" personality :) She was very patient with me no matter how many times I contacted her, or regardless of how many times I stopped by the venue to run through things or do mock set ups, and was always just a email/ phone call away throughout the entire planning process. Leading up to the wedding one thing that I had not thought about prior to booking this venue is that we wanted a traditional soul food cuisine and the venue does not offer outside catering. Tara went above and beyond to meet my needs by helping us put together a custom menu using items from their various banquet menus. She also allowed us to request extra seasonings and provide details on how to turn their traditional menu Mac and cheese to "southern style baked Mac and cheese to give the food the southern flare we desired. The chef did an amazing job of executing it and the food was delicious and an absolute hit! My family (including the great aunties and grandparents) whom are tuff food critics were very pleased! We had absolutely NO complaints with anything related to the venue on our big day and would like to thank the staff at the Abbington Distinctive Banquets for being top tier! Everything was perfect!!!

The room itself was absolutely stunning! The chandeliers, low lights, and the candles made it feel so romantic. The food... omg. Everyone RAVED about the food, but specifically, the steak. We had multiple people tell us that it was the best steak they had ever had- that it melted like butter. The cream of chicken soup- also amazing. The hors d'oeuvres were also a hit; we chose the shrimp, Spanikopita, spring rolls, and mozzarella skewers. I had people tell me they didn't have room for dinner because the appetizers were just that good. Even the ice cream that comes in the chocolate cup... our guests went crazy over it.
The pricing here is so fair. Top shelf liquor, AMAZING food, and A+ service. Our captain was Omar and he was so nice and so accommodating. He, too, was on top of absolutely everything. We felt like we were in great hands the whole night.

I would have more events at the Abbington for their beautiful space and helpful staff alone, but the food was also amazing. Coming from a foodie background, this was VITAL for our wedding. My guests are still raving about the food at our wedding. If you're looking for a classy, traditional and delicious venue then Abbington is your place!! Not to mention their preferred vendors are also amazing.

how good the food was, particularly the steak. They were nice enough to even have sorbet for a couple of our guests with nut allergies that didn’t want to risk eating the cake. Our banquet captain was Omar and he was very kind and packed everything up nicely at the end of the night. It was nice that The Abbington has a lot of things included like the centerpieces and the cake, it felt like that took away some of the stress of planning a wedding and the centerpieces were beautiful and the cake was delicious. We highly recommend this venue!

and was a true blessing in planning our dream wedding at the Abbington. Tara was always willing to assist us in ALL our wedding needs. The Abbington is such a beautiful space and includes so many luxury amenities other venues did not even come close to offering. Our guests are still raving about our wedding and we are right there with them! We can't thank Tara and the Abbington enough for our dream wedding!

food, atmosphere and music. Tara and Abbington were very cooperative with changes we gave them and when one of their clients canceled, she gave us the roomy South ballroom with a stage for the wedding party and access to the bridal room where we could enjoy a bottle of free champagne and snacks. It was a covid year and they addressed all of our concerns and challenges of hesitant guests. We were very happy with the florist and baker they recommended - the cake was extraordinary and the flowers were beautiful.

her daughter got married four years ago, we had researched and visited more than a dozen reception venues. We had heard some good things about Abbington, which we found to be 100% true. In conjunction, their package prices were very reasonable and highly competitive with other similar venues. In fact, their prices were often less than others and sometimes significantly less. Due to Covid-19 concerns, we decided to postpone the wedding for a year. The staff worked with us to find a new date to accommodate our needs and transferred all of deposits to the new date and did not penalize us in any manner. They also honored their prices based on our original contract. Working with them was very easy and once we got everything to them, they took it from there. On the wedding day, there was nothing for us to do except enjoy the reception. The room looked beautiful. The staff was attentive and the food was delicious with generous portions. No one left the reception being hungry. Because of a delay of the wedding party, cocktails and appetizers were slightly delayed but Abbington willingly extended the cocktails and appetizers for us. They checked in with us throughout the night to make sure our needs were being met. At the end of the night, they packed up our belongings such as signage, photos, etc. which simplified our lives greatly. Our special thanks go out to Aly, Mary, Tara and Omar for making the reception special and the entire process easy. Any concerns we had were quickly addressed and resolved. We would highly recommend having your reception at Abbington. They will not disappoint you.

s options and assure us she could bring our vision to life and host all of our guests at the Abbington. While we were stressed out of our minds, she continued to not rush us, gave us the off-season discounts (even with such short notice), and seamlessly transferred all of our details. I cannot say enough positive things about the Abbington, and their work in saving our reception. They coordinated with all of our vendors at the last minute, got a new hotel block set up, and on the day of were super professional. The quality was above and beyond especially for such competitive prices. We received tons of compliments on the food, and had a wonderful celebration of our love with all of our friends and family. Their quick and seamless performance goes to show that they are pros, and know what they are doing: you can count on them for your important day!

e. There were moments when we would have liked her to pay attention to details when finalizing things. However, Kathy was always open to receiving our opinions throughout this process. We've received high praises from our guests about how good the food was and the overall beauty of this venue. I highly recommend this venue based on affordability, professionalism and overall beauty of the building.

The Abbington really delivers a white glove service to all their wedding guests, especially the bride and groom. Kathy helped us organize and deliver a beautiful wedding reception....
She made all sorts of great suggestions to ensure that our special day was flawless. The food was delicious--great portion sizes. Our bridal party missed the cocktail hour while we were taking photos, but the Abbington staff hand delivered some of our appetizers to the head table so we did not miss out! Kathy set our room to our exact vision from the biggest requests to the smallest details. She was always available to consult and bounce questions. She brought a motherlike approach throughout the process, taking extra great care of us during our time as a "Covid Wedding"

a half. Even when we chose to push our wedding back because of COVID. They were always eager to work with us. Our reception was this past Saturday and it was absolutely amazing!! The food was fantastic, staff was incredible as well! I highly recommend having your reception here, the space is just so elegant! All of our guests had a great time!!

mate and well located venue, THEY HAD THE BEST SERVICE EVER. Especially during the pandemic, they did everything to keep it safe and yet enjoyable for all guests.
We personally want to thank Aly and the general manager Tara. Aly was super welcoming and helpful throughout your entire process and was there at any minute to help you on your special day. They went above and beyond working with us and providing the best service we could ever ask for. We loved our experience so much, that we just went back 5 months later to book another event for our baby shower. :)

We feLL in Love with her right when we met her - she makes aLL your wedding reception dreams come true. Super easy to contact & is always by your side. We couldn't have asked or a better manager & venue. We thought planning a covid wedding was stressfuL at first untiL we started workin with Kathy, at Abbington - they were so accommodating & we are forever gratefuL! We were supposed to have a 1000 person wedding but due to covid, had to cut down a Lot & it couldn't have gone more smooth. Kathy made our wedding plans stress freee. The chivari chairs were beuatifuL, their round tables, head tables and family tables were nice & big, spacious, their built in dance floor was amazing, 4 built in bars as weLL! Everything was outstanding from start to finish. Aly and Dian took care of the tiny (but important) details on our wedding day, allowing us to focus on celebrating with our friends and family. re 5 years ago and I was planning on ONLY having my bridal shower here. After complications with our original wedding venue (2 weeks before our wedding!!) I quickly reached out to Abbington to see if they still had availability and if they could help me with this important event, again only TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE WEDDING, and during a pandemic, might I add! They were so so quick to respond and help create that amazing night. Although the event was in the middle of a pandemic, they made sure the safety of their staff and our guests were number 1. They were so accommodating and amazing overall!

his was the venue for us. Aly Rennels, our event manager was sweet, professional and timely from beginning to end. The uncertainty of being able to have a wedding and reception during the COVID pandemic was stressful but Abbington did not disappoint! While we were on lockdown, Aly stayed in communication with us to provide updates. We of course had to cut our guest list significantly due to safety orders and appreciated Abbington for keeping the health and safety of us and our guests in mind. On the day of the reception, everything was absolutely beautiful from the decor to the staff! The staff was safe and wearing their masks, the banquet captain for that day ensured the order of the reception flowed according to our timeline and they all did it with a smile (even behind the mask). All of our guests raved about how flavorful and delicious the food was. We couldn't of asked for a better venue to host us during these times and I highly recommend Abbington Banquets to any and all looking to host an event in the Chicagoland/West Suburban area!

exible with us, which I heard was not happening with other wedding venues. Not once did I worry I wouldn’t get the wedding I dreamed of. Tara responded to every email, call, and voicemail so quickly. She answered every single question I had. On the day of my event, Tara and the staff were so helpful and really did a wonderful job overall. We are so happy with how our night turned out. I brought face masks and they had little “stash your mask” paper bags to put them in lol brilliant! The food? Delicious. The ballroom? Gorgeous. The staff? Perfect. I have no complaints at all. I highly recommend!
