The first meeting we had with Laurie she was late. I still moved forward with the tour. Trying to provide the benefit. After booking we paid a deposit and we paid the total cost well in advance. Due to COVID, we had to cancel my daughter’s graduation party. Her Senior year was devastating already. I had to constantly beg Laurie to refund our cost, after she initially suggested. Since April, I’ve been contacting her. She was extremely unprofessional and went off through a text message the other day. She then only refunded the cost and not the deposit. Which I see she refunded deposits to other customers due to COVID. I sent an email asking about my deposit and still have not received a response. I would not recommend this business ever.
We had such a wonderful wedding here. Laurie took care of so much. it was so beautiful. I would highly recommend this place. Such a beautiful venue.
Acquaint Gathering is such a BEAUTIFUL space for ANY event. I had my Bridal Shower there & it couldn't have gone or looked more perfect. The owner & her daughter made my day so special. They worked so hard to make everything go as planned. They did everything & more...Went beyond my expectations... It was decorated so cute & had the perfect amount of space for everything we needed. I would definitely recommend this event space & the owner to anyone interested in a wedding, party, shower, rehearsal... I look forward to having another event here in the future. Thank you Cheryl for everything you did & all your hard work. I had the most amazing Bridal Shower.
This was the perfect location for our small wedding: we were on a budget and it fit perfectly. It was beautifully decorated and I didn't feel that I needed to do anything extra. The owner had great ideas when I needed them and did great interpreting my ideas for the room set up and center pieces. Although she was out of town on the day of my wedding, she met with me just prior to her leaving and I had keys to the venue, as well as 2 separate contacts if there was anything I needed or if I ran into any problems. She was open to any vendor I wanted to use so I was able to have the caterer, music, and photographer of my choice instead of being bound to a specific list of "pre-approved vendors" which every other location I looked into had. I will definitely use this location again for any large gathering I host!
We were extremely pleased with our decision to have our wedding at this venue! The owner/coordinater was easy to work with, very organized and seemed to effortlessly make our wedding day go off without a hitch. Would highly recommend!
I got married in April 2014 at Acquaint Gathering and had my reception there as well. Cheryl, the owner, helped me each step of the way. From when I called her the first time to come and see it until she cleaned up every last chair at the reception. There are so many unique and beautiful things about this venue that are unlike any other. We had about 120 people and we were very comfortable here. We were able to bring in our own catering company and our own bartending company. I was able to set up the day before without any issues and got ready there the morning of! Highly recommend this place to anyone!
I used this venue for my event and couldn't be more satisfied! Cheryl was friendly and helpful throughout the entire process. Her church renovation is stunning and it was the perfect size for what I needed.
I highly recommend!!!
I usually don't do these reviews but I had to say that Acquaint Gathering did such a wonderful job to make my day go smoothly & soothe my frazzled nerves. I was tickled that they allowed outside food & alcohol to be brought in ( other venues really rack up some $$ on these items) we have a large family of great cooks so it was comforting to have food that I grew up on cooked by my family members. I loved the fact that Cheryl allowed me to have early access to her lovely chapel, she let us have a key & get in there on Thurs & decorate ( NO other venue even came close to that!) I called Cheryl with a lot with of questions & she was always gracious & she was very helpful & knowledgable. I was pleased that she could recommend & we did use her suggestion for our beautiful flowers from HyVee & an awesome Dj. I think for the reasonable price she offers & everything she includes ( tables, chairs, chair covers, centerpieces, early access, set up, clean up) one of the nice surprises is how efficient Cheryl is by organizing things & the entire evening she kept bussing tables ( you know how people leave 1/2 eaten food plates & drinks everywhere) well, she quietly kept the area looking great so my candid picture didn't have a bunch of trash in the background, what a nice touch! It was like having a maid without paying for one!! ( We recently had a 50th wedding party for my parents at a different venue and we had to clean EVERYTHING ourselves, we were there 2 additional hours with 8-10 people helping.... NO FUN!) All in all, it was a wonderful night, beautiful wedding & my girlfriends say they are seriously gonna look to book it for their weddings!! YOUR WELCOME, CHERYL!! Seriously tho, thank you so much
The venue is beautiful, and all you could ask for at such an affordable price and it being "all inclusive" (tables, chairs, centerpieces.) Cheryl was extremely helpful during the planning process. Cheryl didn't arrive at the venue on our wedding day until 2:30, she went on a trip it wasn't going to be home until then. She said we had the venue until midnight which is what we paid our DJ for. I experienced the same issues as other commenters had mentioned, at about 9:00 she started cleaning off the tables and beginning what seemed at clean up process whilst we we all still enjoying our evening. My mother got a mop swept around her feet at 10:30, which is simply unacceptable. It was a Sunday wedding but I have a fun family and group of friends that were all still having a great time. She didn't inform us that we had to get everything out that night and so we were not prepared at the end of the evening to gather 3 days worth of stuff we brought it and get out it before she had an "event" the next night (on a Monday) I drove by the venue the next day and there was no event going on. She said she had a projector but it did not work and we were unable to play the video my mom worked hard on. Her husband was very rude, he stood in the back of the kitchen area looking annoyed awaiting us to leave so they could clean up. He didn't even acknowledge me as the bride or say congratulations, nothing! We felt very rushed out, this was all happening at about 10:45 an hour before our wedding was supposed to end. Our wedding was perfect and nothing can take away the night we enjoyed with our friends and family, but just be aware if you choose to have your wedding at this venue she will start the cleaning process with your guests there and start rushing you out when she feels the night is over.

In no way does a bad review benefit me, I am being completely honest in how I perceived the evening along with how most of my guests and family perceived it. I would like other brides to know what to expect if they choose to have their wedding here. My mothers out lash occurred after all of this was going down, which I'm sure any mother of the bride would do if it was happening to them. The clean up process also started at least 30 minutes prior to the DJ playing the last song which I told him to do because of the chaos. The bar was also closed with all of our wine still inside ( sounds rushed to me) I'm sure you didn't rush out the other reviewers either, it's just a big "misunderstanding"
I would highly recommend Acquaint Gathering for a wedding venue. Cheryl was great to work with through the process. For the price paid, I feel like we got a tremendous value. We were able to get the key to the place on Thursday to be able to start taking our belongings in, had our rehearsal there on Friday, and the wedding and reception on Saturday. Most other places seem to only let you have the place for a few hours on the day of your wedding and charge a lot more. My family and friends made several compliments about the look and feel of the place. There are several great places inside and outside to take some really nice pictures. It is a perfect venue for about 100 guests. I'm so happy we were able to find a place with a reasonable price to have both wedding and reception.
The Chapel is a beautiful setting for a wedding/reception.
with the Stained glass windows, it really makes for some beautiful picutres.
The Bride and Groom have their own rooms to dress in and the "Brides" room has a nice setting for pictures.
We were able to have access to the Chapel on Friday for a rehearsal & dinner, and to drop off all the "wedding stuff" which made the Saturday wedding much less stressful.
The Chapel was clean and parking is ample, several guest made comments on the "elegant" setting, as the chandelier was dimmed at the time of the ceremony.
The staff quickly turned the Chapel from a wedding to a reception with plenty of room for eating and dancing.
Our experience with Cheryl her family and staff was
excellent.
My new daughter-in-law said she wanted a beautiful wedding and fun reception, my comment..
Mission Accomplished... Thank you Acquaint Gathering
I loved the atmosphere of the place it went really well with my wedding style and loved that we got the key on Thursday so we could set up early. My only disappointment was that the owner starting blowing candles out very early and cleaning up everything very early felt like we were being pushed out but all in all it was good.
I absolutely loved the venue. It was so nice not having to set anything up or clean up. It was the biggest weight off my shoulders and it couldn't have been more perfect. I was definitely impressed with the price for all the work they do.
We had our wedding here and around 120 people. It was the perfect size and we received many comments on how beautiful if was. The best were the girls telling their parents that this is what they want their wedding to be like. The price is very reasonable in comparison to other venues in Kansas City.
This little white church is perfect for small wedding.. Its has been turned into a wedding venune. And everyone one of my guest said they loved how pretty it was. Now on the other hand since in a small town you have to be out by midnight.. clean up was a little crazy, the lady that owns and runs the building came in at 9:00pm and started cleaning up my tables, and pushed everyone out before it was time to leave.. I still had an hour and half left before my DJ had to leave.. And I already paid him to stay until 11:00....
The best, beautiful, the right size for a 100 or less guests, owner helped clear tables & take out trash as well as instruct us girls when to walk down the isle. Has option of not getting deposit back & they will clean up after event, we just had to take our belongings.
I loved Acquaint Gathering from its website and booked it about a year in advance when Powell Gardens became too rude for me to deal with. Cheryl was always helpful and if she made a mistake or even thought she might have, she quickly made up for it. We were able to get the key to the chapel on Thursday for my Saturday wedding. This was more than perfect because we could decorate and have the rehearsal dinner all on Friday - with no worries on Saturday!! However, I was disappointed because Cheryl was gone for the weekend so we were left with her husband and son to deal with on the day of the wedding. Not only were they VERY late (they showed up ten minutes before the ceremony when they said they'd arrive an hour before) but they weren't very helpful. It wasn't a huge deal because they weren't truly needed for anything until after the ceremony but pushing the time like that bothered me.
All of that being said, I loved the place. It's well-decorated and with no time constraints it's too relaxed to not go with it. I would just hope that Cheryl doesn't go out of town for you!
Cheryl is wonderful to work with. We loved that we were able to bring in our own food and alcohol. Set up & clean up was included. It is a small vendue (150 people) which made for an intimate setting.
