This was our original venue but then due to COVID they decided not to do any 2020 weddings. Afton Alps was very frustrating to work with form the beginning. Poor communication and they would not share their preferred vendor list until after we booked and asked them several times for it. Come to find out the vendor list was out of date. We booked this venue only for the location and the beautiful property. It was a blessing that they cancelled (wedding was in October, they officially gave word about cancelling in July but we had an idea that was coming).
This venue was hands down the best one we’ve looked at out of the many we’ve toured in the metro area! While others are just as beautiful and have their own unique styles to them, Afton gives you a secluded and rich outdoor experience with many awesome perks. Whether it be roasting marshmallows over the campfire or being able to ride a ski lift just for the fun of it. You can’t beat it! At Afton, you have many options to explore and they are always flexible and can always accommodate for your schedule. And don’t even get me started on the amazing views from the top of the hill! Lots of great scenery shots and plenty of light for any professional photographer! Big shoutout to Anna Cartier the wedding coordinator and James Gadow the operations manager and their entire team for doing such a fantastic job and helping us every step of the way! It was a blast!!
Beautiful location to get married!! If you're having a bigger wedding just be weary of sneaky costs as they add up with expensive $$$ per plate.
Afton Alps was a great venue with a lot to offer. My sister just had her wedding at Afton and we are all just blown away by Anna and her team. Anna and her team were so respectful and understanding of our families demanding needs. Anna was very knowledgable about the venue and was very patient with us. Everyone kept coming up to my
family during the reception letting us know how organized and planned this wedding seemed. This brought joy to my family. I recommend having your wedding at Afton with Anna.
Thanks for such a great night Afton!
Book this venue!!! Our day turned out magical and Anna and her staff played a big role! We had a outdoor ceremony on the golf course and then moved to the chalet for our reception! One venue and two key spots is awesome! Anna just took over and everything was smooth and efficient! From the full food tasting to the final days before our wedding Anna was attentive and got back to me immediately with any concern big or small. Her staff was friendly, helpful and cheery all day!! I could or have pictured my wedding any where else!! Thank you Anna and staff!! Afton alps is the beta venue around!!
What a great place. My son got married there this year and it was amazing. Everything was perfect. The staff was incredible. Anna was very easy to work with and payed attention to every detail. Everyone kept telling us how great the food was. I would strongly recommend getting married here!
Afton Alps was a beautiful place to have a wedding. My sister got married here this year and it was amazing! The staff is incredible. Anna Cartier made sure every small detail that my sister had was met. She was great to work with and had a lot of knowledge for every question we asked. She always went above and beyond what we had requested to make my sister have a great night. In addition, the food was amazing!!!! Everyone kept coming up to us letting us know they loved the food. I highly recommend having your wedding here!!!!!!
In the end, everything turned out great. I started planning our wedding a year and a half before our big day. During this time, Afton went through several price changes, menu changes, and the contact person changed. It was very difficult for me to work with this site because of all of these changes, and often times I was not notified that changes were being made until weeks or months after. I also had issues with the "contract" because there was a big misunderstanding between what I thought the contract was and what the site said the contract was. Most of the communication with the site was by email, and I would often times have to repeat multiple responses and make many clarifications. ON more than one occasion, I was told something, and then later that was redacted. I was frustrated many times and more than once wanted to forfeit my deposit and choose a different venue. When my parents and I went for a tasting to choose our menu options, we waited hours to talk to a site coordinator and ended up leaving before being able to do so. At the tasting, we were only able to sample main options, but not any of the sides. This was greatly disappointing to me, because I wanted to see what everything would look like on one plate. That being said, when my plate was placed in front of me at dinner - I was disappointed in the presentation and the actual side option and wished I had chosen something else.
The property itself is beautiful. We chose it for the beautiful picture spots and the smaller, more intimate setting of the room - Paul's. The best part was being able to set up for my Saturday wedding, on a Thursday. The support staff at the venue were wonderful to interact with and made sure that our guests and my husband and I had a wonderful time. The bartenders were courteous and professional, and made sure that my husband and I were having a good time. My wedding guests had a wonderful time and loved the venue, and my husband and I enjoyed our evening there; that is the ultimate goal but everything leading up to the event could have been easier.
I hope that our process of planning a wedding reception at Afton has ironed out some details for future couples. I sincerely hope that there aren't anymore drastic changes for other couples that are going through this process.
The venue was beautiful. The biggest issue with this venue is Jodie Burt.
Our issues began small-ish. Dinner was served late. The food was not hot (though it did taste amazing). As I sat down to eat my first meal of the day, Jodie came rushing up to me. "You told me you only needed 4 kids meals, there are more than 4 kids here!" Well, I politely reminded her that I paid for 10 kids meals and there were fewer than 10 kids there. She looked at me, surprised and unbelieving and said that she'd check the invoice.
Then dessert time came. My personal attendant and another friend had agreed to serve my pies and were working on getting them ready when Jodie came rushing to me again. "Did you need plates for this?" I was confused but said yes. Her next response made me turn and walk away from her. "You didn't tell me that you needed plates and silverware for dessert!" Really?! There was more drama with her around dessert as well but I decided to ignore her and enjoy my day.
The worst issue that we ran into was that the septic backed up and flooded the bathrooms. They claimed that this had never happened before but when I spoke with people that regularly came there to ski and gold, they said it happened all the time. Even that would have been understandable. The thing that upset me and everyone at my wedding, was the lack of planning by Jodie and the other staff. The bathrooms were shut down for almost an hour before I had to go find her to ask her what the plan was for the bathrooms. I had guests leaving my wedding because they couldn't use the bathroom. She explained that they were waiting for someone to come and fix them. Well that's great. I asked if there was another bathroom that my people could use in the meantime. She admitted that she hadn't thought of that but would get golf carts to take people to another bathroom. The bathroom that they took them to was in a service building that didn't get used. The bathrooms had rusty water and were not acceptable for guests dressed in wedding attire. I am only thankful that I didn't have to use the bathroom for the rest of the night.
I managed to keep myself from getting upset with her that night and enjoy my day. I did however complain to her supervisor. If someone is going to be a wedding coordinator, they should know their wedding inside and out. If issues come up, which is inevitable, the bride should not find out about them until after they are resolved. When something comes up, the coordinator should go to anyone but the bride. Especially if the bride has a personal attendant or other people there that can help. The biggest issue with Jodie is her approach and tone with people. These couples just paid you thousands of dollars and spent months, maybe years planning this day. They should be treated like your most important customers, not like children to be scolded. I was extremely disappointed with her.
The prices were reasonable when we booked but have since jumped exponentially. The venue was beautiful and we did a lot of things ourselves. I would have loved to recommend this venue to everyone I know but so long as Jodie Burt is working there, I will tell everyone to stay away.
Afton Alps was supportive, flexible, and informative in helping us plan for our special day!
Afton Alps is a beatiful place for a reception. The view is beatuiful, the room was gourgeous and the food was amazing!
We had both the ceremony and reception at Afton. The location is beautiful!! I had some issues with communication, could take over a week for someone to get back to me. They got better the closer it got to the wedding but it was still frustrating. They did all the cooking and food was amazing! We had chicken and it was great!
Only other problem we had was its not near any large hotels so we hired a shuttle company to get not so sober guests to the hotel safely.
Price was very reasonable!
Very reasonable price. All of the linens, skirtings, and dinnerware provided. Beautiful view of the ski hill (deer and turkeys come out at night). Very flexible and helpful. Allowed setup Thursday and Friday and were allowed to clean up Sunday.
My husband and I had previously picked another place closer in the cities for our venue before selecting Afton Alps. Our original place started adding hidden fees and were just not friendly people to work with. Finally we had enough and I remembered going to prom at Afton Alps and how much I loved it. So, I gave them a call and even though my date was past the time they usually have weddings, they worked with us and let us have that date. From the beginning everyone was so nice and accommodating to us. Brendon, the coordinator, was amazing to work with! Anything we needed, he was there to answer questions. If they didn't have something we wanted, he worked with us. The price is so reasonable for the service they provide. The food is AMAZING!! I have heard nothing but compliments from the guests at our wedding about Afton Alps. It's gorgeous, reasonably priced, the food is amazing, and the people are so helpful. What else could you ask for? Highly, HIGHLY recommend Afton Alps for your wedding.
The food was incredible, the atmosphere was perfect, and from lift tickets to chairlift rides, they gave the guests a night to remember.
Very nice place and great service.
We had our ceremony and reception at Afton Alps in the St. Croix room in September. The scenery was beautiful! The kids that were at the wedding were able to play outside, and there was a large outdoor deck for guests as well. We were able to comfortably sit 300 guests. 0n the webiste it states that it can fit up to 400, but I think that would be a little too crowded.
The Highlands Chalet was very spacious and clean. The staff was very helpful in placing tables and chairs that were suitable for what we wanted. The high ceilings were great for the satin drapery that we used also!;The signs going into the chalet were not marked very well-so some of our guests got confused, since there are other chalets on the proptery.
