After speaking to Shelley on the phone, we hired her very quickly for our July 30th wedding, partly because of her sales pitch that is very convincing (she dove into all kinds of i...
deas for our weddings for over an hour during the "introduction" call and at the end of it sort of pressured us for an immediate answer). She also asked for full payment immediately, which we should've pushed back given that no other vendors ask for 100% payment at booking. We didn't give that too much thought given her solid reviews online and we trusted her.
Well, fast forward to the month of our wedding... did not hear from her until 2 weeks before our wedding telling us that she got delayed writing our wedding due to COVID but she is recovered and is working on it. Did not deliver on that promise and 5 days before our wedding, she sent an EMAIL telling us she's unable to do it. Amidst the frenzy of last-minute tasks and family arriving etc., we had to scramble and interview multiple officiants. I sent out at least 30 messages to various contacts and made at least 15 phone calls to find a replacement. Plus given that she wanted to run our ceremony fully, we did not have ANYTHING planned up till that point. She caused us so much added stress on our already stressful wedding day. We would have appreciated an earlier heads up, and a phone call instead of sending us an email that could've been covered by the zillions of wedding-related emails we are getting.
Anyway, she promised to give our money back plus $100 as compensation, but won't be able to until end of July. Come the week after our wedding, still no news from her, my husband has been sending her gentle reminders every month since then she she kept stalling. I am sorry she doesn't have money since she weren't doing weddings, but why take money upfront from people and spend it all before even performing the service? At some point she offered to pay in installments since she does not have the full amount, and we agreed that this is at least something and a show of faith. Of course she did not keep good on her word.
And now, she has gone cold and stopped replying, hence we decided to write this review. We are looking into legal actions that we can potentially take to get our money back.
I hired Shelley and payed her in full approximately 6 months before our wedding and she bailed on me 10 days before my wedding. My husband and I fell in love with her unique ceremo...
ny ideas and we traveled to Grand Haven to have dinner with her in person. She did not write us the ceremony she promised us and she has not refunded us our money when she said she would in 30 days .
While incredibly enthusiastic Shelley did not follow through on any of the commitments she agreed upon. We paid her in full in November 2019 for our upcoming wedding October 10, 2...
020. In early August, we were asked by our venue to adjust our ceremony time in relation to the pandemic. We will be outside and Michigan weather can be unpredictable . Shelley double booked that day and was unwilling to reschedule the 2nd booking. We did book her first but that did not matter. Shelley indicated while she has not followed through on writing our ceremony she will not provide a refund. Her response was that we are making the change not her and therefore no refund will be issued.
Many people are facing difficult scenarios and changes due to Covid-19. Being able to count on a vendor who is and has been paid in full for 10 months prior to the event is crucial. Communication and follow through was requested by Shelley but was in no way reciprocated.
For these reasons couples should proceed with caution.
My husband and I recently got married this past weekend and Shelley was our officiant. She was also there when we got engaged as my husband had hired her to help with the proposal ...
and she was there taking photos in the grass as it happened. Shelley was great to work with during the entire planning process and was so enthusiastic about everything, she really loves her job and that is so important in her profession. Shelley met with us for dinner to work on our ceremony details and asked us questions that would help personalize our big day. We couldn't thank Shelley enough for being there for us and supporting us through the entire process and we are so thankful that she was there when I said "yes" and when we said "I DO!." Thanks for everything Shelley, we so appreciate it!
I can't say enough about Shelley! She was THE BEST. I could tell from the first time we spoke, she truly loves her job. She was immediately invested in making sure she provided us ...
with the best wedding possible. She met with us for several hours prior to writing our personalized vows. She kept in touch the entire time leading up to the wedding. Aside from the exceptional service provided, I was beyond elated with the "extras"... At the reception, she handed me a little package which included our typed out vows, our wedding license, and our invitation on frame-able paper. Brought tears to my eyes! She also took so many pictures, candid and posed, that she sent to me right away so I had immediate mementos of the best day of our lives. I don't know how to thank Shelley enough! Oh.. she is also guilty of getting my new husband addicted to sushi ;)!
