The Amara is a beautiful property, everything went smoothly with the venue. I was a little nervous when the point of contact left them suddenly and we bounced around between a few different people but it turned out perfect. They set up the meditation room beautifully. I would recommend them to other couples looking to have an intimate wedding. We had just under 30 people, anything bigger I think the room would be a little too small.
Amara event staff is PAINFUL to work with. The rest of the amara staff is incredible, but their events team doesn’t know what they are doing. Communication fell off after we paid the deposit for our wedding. We were told something different by the 3 different points of contact we had while working with the amara team. Some minor changes to what we agreed to but others not so minor (like being told 9 days before our wedding that there won’t be room for dancing even though that was always the plan). Another major change was the 900 different pricing structures that kept changing every time we received a new email from them. We had to go line by line every time we received something comparing it against the contract and then detailing each mistake that they needed to correct. The amara events team caused so much unnecessary stress for us that I would not recommend this venue to another bride.
We were able to work with Lena starting in December 2020 for our June wedding. She was always very easy to reach via email, which made it a lot easier for us since we were planning from South Carolina. The Amara is obviously such a beautiful venue, and we were able to stay a few nights prior to our wedding. The staff was always so helpful, and Lena even sent us some wedding treats, which were so appreciative!
The only issues we had:
1) There was some confusion with the pricing. We were charged for the Courtyard and the Meditation Room, even though we had only planned to use the Courtyard for both our ceremony and reception. However, this was fixed and we were not charged for the extra room.
2) The fountain was still operating during our ceremony, even though it was requested to be turned off. Someone tried to turn it off while I was about to walk out, but it was too late by then. Unfortunately, this made it difficult for our friends and family back home to hear the reception via livestream.
3) If you book the Courtyard, please be aware that the Salt Rock Cafe and pool are still open. People will be moving during your time. We even noticed that three women who were neither invited to our wedding nor known by any of our friends and family tried to start a conga line during our reception.
Despite the minor issues, we loved our time and experience at the Amara and cannot wait to come back in the future as husband and wife!
Lena was a dream to work with! I started planning our wedding in Fall 2019, not knowing what 2020 would bring. Lena made it as easy as possible to adjust plans as needed to make sure we had a safe and beautiful day. We would highly recommend Amara to any couples looking to get married in Sedona!
From the moment we walked into Amara, Katie B. treated us like family! She listened to all the details we envisioned for our wedding, what we liked and disliked in the other venues we had visited, and she showed us why Amara was the best place for us to have the biggest celebration of our lives! Amara is absolutely gorgeous! There is a beautiful lounge area in the front with comfy chairs. For most of the day, they had fruit infused water and iced tea available for guests. Their in house restaurant has delicious food, although I didn’t get to try it. Many of our guests ate there and enjoyed every meal. The wedding ceremony was held in the pool lounge area. The resort was great about closing the pool during our ceremony and not reopening it until after we were done with our formal photos. During our stay, the entire hotel staff from the front desk personnel to the valets, the bellhops, the chefs, the room service, and bar and wait staff who worked at our wedding were all spot on with their customer service. Many went above and beyond to make sure our friends and family enjoyed their time at Amara. Their hospitality is superb. Even after the wedding, our family wanted to make sure we knew that the hotel really treated everyone very well and they truly had a great time!
The reception and the food were phenomenal! We chose the Juniper dinner buffet and all of our guests raved about the food. The resort was very accommodating with vegan/vegetarian and simpler kid friendly options. If we could change one thing related to the reception, it would be where our cake was displayed. It was hard for our guests to enjoy it and look at it before cutting. And the cake cutting was very awkward as well. But I guess we feel very lucky that that was the only thing that we wish would have gone better! Amara absolutely made our wedding spectacular! We look forward to visiting the resort again for our anniversary! Thank you, Amara!!
Love it
Construction, we were told it was happening, I was sent artistic drawings, however was told it would NOT effect my wedding. We arrived a few days before the wedding and saw that a pool was constructed where we were told we were going to get married. Hence, instead of a creekside backdrop, we got a pool.
Reservations, a NIGHTMARE through the end. They lost reservations, didnt return calls when their system was down, told guests there was no wedding by our last names at the resort, told guests who's reservations they lost they no longer had rooms. Nothing was done to compensate for this frustration and time lost dealing with it.
Food, absolutely phenmonal. We actually did not get a chance to taste the food when were searching for venues. We were scared to taste a couple of days before because if it wasnt any good there would be nothing to do but worry. However, it came out absolutely delicious. Was a very welcomed surprise.
Drinks, they were poured very weak and I think I got taken on the drink bill. We had agreed to do the lower of drinks ala cart or open bar. Oh well, this is what happens.
April, albeit the construciton issue that was not made clear, she was phenomenal and great to work with during the entire planning stage through the end. She was on site and assisted and coordiated EVERYTHING.
As the construction was a one time thing and future guests will see what they are getting, this should not be an issue in the future. However, good luck with the reservations team.

After an exausting search I chose this venue for my reception. I was in contact with them for about a year prior to my event. I wish they would have told me up front they were doing construction about a month before my wedding. By the time I found out I was already under contract and had paid my down payment. So it was too late to change my mind. Construction took longer than expected and my guests were forced to look at an unfinished pool and listen to construction noise after we had been told neither of the 2 would happen.
The only other complaint I had was the event coordinator made it sound like she would be at the reception making sure everything went according to plan. Turns out she wasn'tand the task was turned over to a regular employee. Also I was under the impression that the hotel staff was going to clean up after the reception (candles, flowers) and I found out about 30 mins before it was over that we had to clean that stuff up ourselves.
Otherwise it was a good venue. Everyone loved the food, the drinks were great. Our event coordinator worked with us on the price of everything and even let us go off the menu to get what we wanted and fit our budget. the reception room itself turned out beautifully and the rooms at the hotel were kind of small (boutique hotel) but had many more perks than I was expecting! (the beds are tremendously comfortable, we will be buying one). I didn't even need a wedding planner because she reminded me every step of the way what I needed to be doing. Even so far as to set up a timeline of all the events the day before the wedding through the toast, cake cutting and exit from the reception.
I would reccomend this place to others since the construction issue will not be likely to happen to anyone else since its completed. However, if you do chose this place, just know that the event coordinator is a very good talker! Read the contract 3X very carefully and divide how great everything sounds by half.
