We absolutely LOVED working with Opal 28! From start to finish they were an absolute joy. They were a well-oiled machine with clear and consistent communication throughout the entire process. The staff were SO attentive and kind, there were no surprise fees, and everyone went beyond the call of duty.
Having an Opal 28 on-site coordinator (shoutout Ranessa) for the process and wedding day made planning a breeze. She made everything run so smoothly and we really felt that we had nothing to worry about. Even with the ever-changing Covid rules, she and the rest of the staff were always cool, calm, and collected.
Being able to have the music piped through the venue sound system gave us one less thing to worry about. That also goes for their on-site catering. A few months after the wedding we’re still having guests tell us how fantastic the food was, both cocktail hour appetizers and the plated dinner! (The goat cheese balls, lemonade-brined fried chicken, and avocado toast were fantastic cocktail appetizers. The salmon and carrots for dinner were also phenomenal).
Having the ability to bring in our own decorations and dessert made it so we could set our own budget and do whatever we wanted. They even kept our desserts in their fridge and helped us box up the leftovers.
Opal 28 also has apartments above the event space that we rented out. That made getting ready and having a place to stay really easy.
We cannot rave about Opal 28 enough!
We can't thank our coordinator Ranessa, Margot, and the rest of the team at Opal 28 enough for making our intimate wedding--attended by 19 people total, including us--such a special, memorable, and elegant event. Our guests could not stop complimenting us on the gorgeous patio and delicious food, and asked us how we had found such a perfect venue. Ranessa made everything SO easy--decor, flowers, music, vows, toasts, drinks, food--and helped us achieve the relaxed but beautiful wedding of our dreams. I was so surprised when we sat down at dinner and saw that Opal 28 had even printed out beautiful customized menu cards for each table setting! We had not even asked for or anticipated them, and I was so touched that those had been so thoughtfully designed and included. If we had to do it all over again, we would choose to have our wedding at Opal 28 every time. Thank you for making our evening so memorable in the best way.
We are also so grateful for Opal 28's graciousness and flexibility in accommodating 2 changes in our wedding date due to COVID-19. They never gave us a hard time about it and took so much of the stress of our shoulders in trying to plan an event during the pandemic. If you are having a small wedding in Portland, there is no better place to have it than Opal 28!
The Opal 28 staff were absolutely amazing to work with. Kristi was made our planning process so easy and by the time our wedding came around we didn't need to do anything but show up and have fun. We had just under 30 guests and the Opal staff helped our event go smoothly, from welcoming us into the apartments and setting up decor, providing delicious food, managing our music, and helping to organize everything to make for an easy departure. We cannot recommend Opal 28 highly enough and had so much fun celebrating our wedding day with them!
Opal28 was the perfect venue for our intimate (<30 total) April 2019 wedding. If you don’t want to have to worry about anything, and just enjoy it all on your wedding day, I can’t recommend them enough. Our coordinator Kara was a complete pro- and all of the staff working were friendly and helped to make our day special for all of our loved ones. The dinner was delicious, and the apartments upstairs were lovely and well worth getting for our weekend. I could not think of a single thing I would have changed.
The team did a wonderful job! They were so helpful every step of the way and did a fantastic job keeping the event smooth the night of. I would recommend them to anyone looking to do an event! Great staff, great food, beautiful venue-- everything was perfect!
Margot and her team were great. She was responsive, helpful, and so so nice! The entire staff went above and beyond in making sure our day went perfectly and that we had zero stress & could just enjoy ourselves. I appreciated so much that they worked with us to keep costs down, too -- much appreciated with the ever-growing costs. The fact that everything is included, including gratuity, made budgeting SO SIMPLE and I loved it.
In other words -- GET MARRIED HERE IF YOU CAN!!
The entire Opal 28 staff was nothing short of AMAZING! They made sure everything ran smoothly. Their staff was so personable and made us feel right at home. The venue is beautiful, they did more than they had too to make our dream day happen!
My daughter Eleana, who lives in Portland, selected Opal 28 for her wedding reception on October 16th. When She took me for the initial consult I could see that this was the perfect place for the event. It has a authentic urban neighborhood vibe, relaxed and comfortable.
The venue owner has made the arrangements pretty stress-free leading up to and the day of the event. She uses an on-line service called HoneyBook which keeps all communications straightforward and simple.
My daughter wanted vegetarian and vegan food options and Margot had some great ideas. The guests all commented about how delicious the food was, as well as nicely presented.
Margot also recommended hiring Kristi their events coordinator and it was one of the best things I did. It took soooo much stress off me, m.o.b.
When the wedding party arrived at the venue we were delighted to see what a terrific job that Kristi and staff did with the decorating and other arrangements.
The wedding guests loved the venue, it's charming courtyard and intimate dining and dancing rooms. Everyone just flowed from room to room, it was ideal!
Margot, the owner, offers accommodations of 3 small but charming apartments upstairs and it made the organizing on the week of the wedding very convenient. Especially for the assembly of wedding party favors, the unfolding of 1,000. Cranes which we used for the decor behind the bride and groom, etc.
Opal28 and staff are terrific!
Opal is a one-of-a-kind, vintage style, fun, intimate, classy venue, plus more. Opal 28 is all of that plus more! Honestly if we were to have another celebration, whether it's a birthday or anniversary we won't hesitate to book Opal.
We had our Opal 28 wedding last month, May 2017.
We rented 2 rooms upstairs and checked-in a few days earlier as we were having a destination wedding (all our 65 guests were from out-of-state).
One of the things that I love about Opal is their flexibility. We changed our guest count so many times and yet they were able to accommodate us. I had very specific vision with decorations (we created all our decors and ordered bulks of flowers) and they were so talented in decorating the place, they made our vision came to life (it's cheesy to say but very true!)! They honestly made wedding planning so fun and not stressful at all! They were available throughout the whole process and answered all questions promptly (end of the day or within the following day). From the very beginning to the end, they made it seamless and smooth.
Our guests love how unique and fun and yet relaxing our wedding was, which is truly what we strived to do from the very beginning. That would have not been possible without Opal 28's team.
Also, the food was fantastic! Maybe they should open a restaurant next door on the side ;) but seriously anything that you desire, their chef can make. We wanted crab cakes, they served them and they were so meaty, they were such a great hit! We also wanted to do a continuous-small plates kinda reception where each hour essentially different food comes out, and they made that flow so well! We also had different food vendors and they worked them in our reception so easily. We ended our evening with a late night snack, garlic fries with parmesan (again, not in their menu but their chef cooked it for us). It was so delicious! We do not have our pictures yet, but you bet we will post them here once we have them!
God, where to start? Seriously, everything was perfect! First, we switched venues about 3 months before the wedding because we had a smaller guest list than anticipated (it was a destination wedding for everyone). I was stressed, looking for a venue that was small, in our price range, and could offer the 1920s feel for our themed wedding. I had originally passed over this venue initially because I wasn't sure if it would fit the theme. I was so wrong to do that! We finally went in to look at the venue and the website did not do it justice. The space is beautiful and flexible, it was literally transformed to a romantic, vintage but glam lounge. It was better than anything I had imagined and planned for! Kristi was phenomenal to work with from the start. She was responsive to emails, super friendly, and worked great with our wedding coordinator to ensure our vision was carried out. They even let us use one of the apartments to wait in before the ceremony since we got ready at the hotel, and had two bottles of champagne waiting for us. It's the little things that are important to me. The small details such as having our signature drinks waiting for us when we got back from photos around the city during cocktail hour, to making sure we were fed first so we didn't starve all evening. Kristi even special ordered the gin we wanted for one of the signature drinks and the team also offered champagne in the dining room right before the toasts. We were even able to send in our recipe for the bartender to use. The venue was full service and had our decor cleaned up and ready for our parents to take after the sparkler send off, which was impressive! That way no one had to wait around after. I appreciated everything Opal 28 had to offer and highly recommend them for any event!
We held our wedding at Opal 28 just a few weeks ago. It was just the perfect space for our relatively small and intimate wedding. It's in a bit of a funny neighborhood with a laundromat nearby and a mini-mart across the street, but once you come in through the patio and into the space you are transported into another experience. Plus, it was 10 minutes from our house, bonus!
The staff was generally responsive and setting up all of our needs. We had hoped to rent one of the apartments upstairs, but the two night minimum made it too expensive. Thankfully, one of our guests were staying up there and we were able to use their room between the ceremony and reception as well as for getting ready. The one huge drawback is that there is no place to get dressed or to take a break if you don't rent one of the apartments upstairs.
On the day of the event, everything was ready as expected, the staff was really helpful-even asking me a number of times if I needed food or drink and the bartender even prepared a special plate for me.
My one other complaint is that it felt to me like the food was a bit scarce. It was nice of them to walk around with appetizers, but I felt like I had to hunt for the food.
They were really easy to work with and we loved the look and feel of the space.
We chose Opal 28 as our wedding reception venue and were very happy with our choice. The space was great even for our 100 guest cocktail-style reception. It has a great ambiance and is amenable to creating different spaces for guests. The service day-of was fabulous and made me feel like both we and our guests were taken care of. Margot and her team were flexible in working with us to put together an event within our budget.
