I cannot say enough good things about this boutique! They altered my wedding gown quickly and beautifully for a super reasonable price. When I needed additional, last-minute alterations, they brought in the incredible Eliana to help and did not charge me anything extra. They were so extremely kind to me and truly helped me to feel beautiful and comfortable on my wedding day. They did not have to help me to the extent that they did, but they are truly wonderful people. I am so grateful for their support and expertise. They altered my prom dress many years ago, and I can’t wait to visit them again for other family events in the future.
I purchased my dress from another local shop but I wanted to make it look slightly more vintage by having a hi-lo and then being able to bustle it up to tea length for the reception. Dora was perfection. She understood exactly what I was going for and totally delivered. I could not have asked for a better experience. She put me totally at ease when it came to the final touches on my dream dress.
This review is only for my Bridesmaid dresses as I purchased my wedding gown at a different wedding boutique.
This shop was impossible to get a hold of and had terrible hours. They made it seem like they were doing me a favor by being open when I wanted to go in when their hours were posted as being open. I got in the habit of always calling before going, because you never knew if they were actually open or not, one time I called and they were closing at 12:30 on a Saturday. I know the shop is by appointment only, but you would think there would be at least one day on the weekend when they have stable hours for the occasional walk-in or customer that needs support or to pick something up.
Due to their disorganization, I was overcharged for the bridesmaid dresses. They took care of the issue when I prompted them, but for the cost of these dresses, this should not have been an issue to begin with.
I planned a day for my four bridesmaids to try on dresses and they called an hour before my fitting asking to reschedule. They kept the appointment as-is, but only because I insisted they not change it as it was the only way I could get all of my bridesmaids and mothers of the bride/groom together at the same time since we all work very different schedules (e.g. night shift) and were coming from out of town.
I recognize the shop is a local shop owned by someone that would like to retire and their daughter who recently had a baby, but there has to be a better answer for this extreme lack of organization, poor hours and customer service.
The dresses arrived on time. The dresses looked nice. As a result of being over charged and the frustration of the shop not being open often or consistently, we decided to take the alterations elsewhere.
This is the first one star rating I have ever given. I took my dress here for alterations and had an awful experience. I kept asking for them to make my dress more form fitting and to tighten the straps. I am the only one located in Maryland and did not have any local bridesmaids to go with me to my fittings to given an opinion. I would ask for them to tighten the dress more and they kept saying no it looks good the way it is. I kept trying to tell myself after each one I was just being too critical. The day of my wedding I ended up being so unhappy with the outcome of my alterations and now super bummed out with my wedding photos. My straps fell down the entire night (including walking down the aisle) and I kept stepping on my dress in the front due to it not being hemmed enough. I will be taking my dress in somewhere else to get realtered and hope to get new wedding photos taken one day showing what good quality work really is and to have photos I enjoy looking at. They were extremely expensive too and hard to get in touch with, never returning voicemails. Take your dress to someone else.
Amazing!! Definitely recommend for wedding dress alterations!! Dora was so sweet throughout the process, which for me, included a meltdown and question as to whether or not I liked the dress I bought (brief buyer's regret which did go away!!). She is such a talented seamstress and made my dress literally perfect for me. In addition to the dress fitting flawlessly, she was a lot of FUN to work with!
Flavia and Doris were so sweet and accommodating throughout the alterations process for my wedding gown and the purchase of my veil. They are professional and also down to earth, and they are super flexible. When I realized one of my buttons had fallen off my gown two days before my wedding, I popped in and Doris was able to fix everything within a matter of minutes. She was also able to sew a patch onto a tie I got for my dad free of charge!
I used Annapolis Formal for my bridal alterations. I only needed a few simple changes and Dora did a great job. It did take longer than anticipated, but luckily I had plenty of time before my wedding. And the standard bridal fee was higher than I expected, but it was quality work.
I highly recommend Annapolis Formal and Tuxedos for bridal alterations. I'm petite and needed my dress taken in, the hem shortened, and a bustle added, and they did a wonderful job. My dress was very delicate, with an illusion neckline and a lot of tulle, but the alterations came out flawless and the length was perfect. It took several appointments, so I recommend starting the process as soon as you buy your dress/months in advance. Altogether I spent approx. $400 on alterations which I think is pretty standard, but I had peace of mind that the alterations would be in good hands.
I took my dress here with only 2 weeks until my wedding. They were extremely friendly and accommodating. I had my first fitting to see what needed to be done, my second fitting was after it had been taken in a bit and hemmed to see if anything needed to be done before the pick up day. When I went to pick it up the hem was great, the bustle was simple and easy to use. So easy that I could do it my self. The only complaint I have is that I had a lace strapless dress and it did not stay in place. I had to keep pulling it up and I was afraid my breasts would fall out if I raised my arms. The lacing where it was taken in was also falling off a bit too. They were great to work with but I really wish I could've been more confident with my dress the day of my wedding.
I am SO glad that I found Annapolis Formal and Tuxedo. My wedding dress was not an easy one to alter- I needed the top taken in a LOT, I wanted the neckline to be turned into a sweetheart, and the whole thing was covered in beads and lace. Dora is amazing. She was patient and careful and the dress came out perfectly. They also have a beautiful selection of accessories- I found my veil and a stunning flower/feather hairpiece (both VERY reasonably priced). Dora and Flavia are so kind and they made the entire experience easy and stress-free.
This mother-daughter shop was AMAZING! They were able to order all of my bridesmaids dresses (9 total) with no problems. If we ran into any sizing issues they were there to help us any way they could. They did the alterations on one of the dresses and it turned out amazing. I would highly recommend going to this store! They are amazing!
I wanted a light gray tux for our summer wedding. I tried all the chains, but they all had the same policy - tuxes come in Thursday and hope and pray they look good and if not hope they can fix it Friday and rush around to get fitted before rehearsal for a Saturday wedding. No Thanks! Talk about stressful! My husband is not a small guy so it was really important for it to fit right and look good. I love that when they measure the guys they have a generic sample jacket so they can make sure the fit and measurements match up before they order.
His tux came in Tuesday before the wedding and everything was perfect! Also, our best man waited until the last minute (like 2 weeks before the wedding!) to order his tux but they were champs and got it in on time and everything was perfect.
The only negative was that it was pretty pricey - a similar tux at the chain places was about $70 less per person.
Cute little shop run by mother and daughter. They helped me pick out my dress and were under my price point. They made the necessary changes and alterations. The dress looked great and I got tons if compliments. They also dressed the bridesmaids and all the men.
i would highly recommend Annapolis formal ! For my appointment i had previously sent them dresses i was interested in, they had all the ones they had available pulled and others that were similar, they listed to the reactions during the whole process and got a feel for what we were really leaning towards and said " i know what you need" and pulled my dress that i fell in love with !! They were on top of staying in contact with me when the dresses came in, ( i also got my bridesmaids dresses here) when it came to my alterations they took my dress in and did it in one day !!!! (they did this for me because we mention my mom was going to be doing some work on the dress, and this was 2 weeks before the wedding, so they wanted her to have the time.) They were lovely ladies, and this is a cute little place ! The prices are a little higher than a Davids bridal, but i really had no complaints about this place!
Flavia and her mom were so sweet and nice. They were easy going, not pushy. They were willing to work within my budget. They were quick in response if I had any questions. The shop is small but worth a visit because they will treat you right and really care. I loved my dress!
I got my wedding dress from Annapolis Formal. The shop is run by a mother and daughter, and they were helpful and friendly. Sometimes it took a while to get in touch with them, but overall the experience was a positive one.
I had a wonderful experience with Annapolis Formal and Tuxedos. Using a smaller salon enabed me to have a relationship with the owner and seamstress. Flavia went out of her way to calm my pre-bride fears that my dress would look horrible. My alterations were perfect (thanks Mama Dora!), but more than that I felt like Flavia and her mom were honestly invested in me being the most beautiful bride ever. I would recommend Annapolis Formal and Tuxedos again with no hesitation.
I bought my wedding dress here and I absolutely loved it. This place is a small, family-owned boutique and they couldn't be nicer. They were honest with me when dresses didn't look right and never made me feel pressured to buy anything, but were very helpful during the entire dress shopping experience. The dresses are expensive, and they are so nice that you don't feel right trying to haggle with them, so it is not the place to go to try and get a bargain. Regardless, their service was excellent and they were great to work with, I couldn't have been happier with my dress.
My review is split into two parts. First off, getting your dress... I would give 4 stars or more for that. While the store is small, they have great dresses and a lot of mid-range brands that are hard to find in the DC area. I didn't want to break the bank of my dress, but I also wasn't feeling David's Bridal.
Ok now the bad... do not, under any circumstances, get anything altered here. Especially do not get your wedding dress done here. Go somewhere (anywhere) else. I went there because I figured "hey, they sold me the dress, they know what they are doing." I was so wrong and still an annoyed when I look at some pictures. First they took the top in way to much and wouldn't take the waist in enough. Then the seamstress tried to tell me that the top was right (apparently she thought I had 4 boobs and like back fat). Luckily I had two friends with me for moral support. I almost had to start to pack up my purse (while in the dress) and threaten to leave (in the dress) before she would even consider redoing it and in the end, the waist still didn't end up coming in enough. Then they charged me an extra $40 on top of the "flat rate." There are a lot of good seamstresses in the greater-DC area. In the end, it probably would have cost the same and saved me a lot of headaches.
Absolutely loved my dress! It fit perfectly thanks to the ladies at annapolis formal!
I found and purchased my dress a year before the wedding (so August 2010). Sherma was the person who helped me. She was fantastic and even called about the buttons we wanted to add on the back! However, by the time my dress came in (March) she was no longer there and I was dealing with the owner (and her daughter on the phone). The owner does the alterations. Things were overall okay but I had to make many appointments to keep having the dress taken in and then after I was told the alterations would be done (2 days before the wedding...got fitted one last time 3 days before the wedding) I show up with my mom to get it and she acted like she'd never seen me before and didn't have it done! She did it right then and tried it on and it was fine. However, she used thread to create the loop to hook on the metal hook for the top of the dress and when my girls when to do it on the BIG day, it broke!!! I don't know what it looked like exactly but I'm sure I'll see it in the pictures. I don't think it was too noticable but I can't believe it didn't hold! So summing it up, in the beginning I would've given this place 5 stars but now that it's just the owner and her daughter I can only give it a 3 because of the issues with alterations and the owner being so forgetful.
I visited Annapolis Formal yesterday for the first time to begin shopping for my wedding gown. I was a little surprised walking in how small it is- note: the selection is small, but very nice. Flavia and her mom were really wonderful, so sweet and not at all pushy. I felt very comfortable and they were so accommodating. They helped me pick out a beautiful dress that I will most likely be returning to purchase. Definitely visit them in your hunt for the perfect gown!
I can not say enough about Dora and Flavia, they are a mother-daughter team that do an amazing job. The service was great from the start, no one was ever pushy or salesy. As long as you are not expecting a fancy dressing room, you will be very happy here. I found the most beautiful dress and they were able to custom order it to my measurements. It came in quickly and Dora did a great job with the alterations. I accidentally lost 8 lbs the week before the wedding and she was able to work miracles to get my dress to fit like a glove. I got so so many compliments from everyone at my wedding and most importantly my new husband was speechless. My mother also got her dress there. It was beautiful as well.
Very personable, gave me a great price for my dress, helped me every step of the way! So glad I found this shop! I LOVED my dress!
Hands down, Annapolis Formal is the best wedding dress shop I visited, and I visited many. Flavia and her mom are sweet, organized, and have a great eye for fashion. Do not be put off that it's a small shop. They have a great inventory and are wonderful to work with. I regret not getting my bridesmaids' dresses from Annapolis Formal as well!
I got my wedding dress here and alterations and i gotta say, i am sooo glad i did!!! It is a mother daughter team and they were sooo kind and helped me with everything!! I just moved to the area and i was always alone when i went in and they made me feel so comfortable and like i wasnt alone at all! The prices were great and everything was perfectly altered and i had a lot down to my dress! I cant recommend them enough!! So glad i found them!
I found the perfect dress at Annapolis Formal. I loved that they did not pressure me to buy a dress on the spot. They even offered their alteration service if I found a dress elsewhere. The personal attention was great. I definitely didn't feel like just another customer.
Annapolis Formal and Tuxedos was the first and only place I went to for my wedding gown. They had such a wide variety of dresses to choose from which is very helpful. The staff was very accommadating to my ideas.
They are a mother/daughter who own the boutique. From the moment i walked into the store they were so nice and welcoming. My mom and I were looking at dresses I thought i would like and the daughter had came over and suggested a few more that i wasn't so thrilled about but i thought i would try them on. We tried on all the ones my mom and i picked out and I just didnt have that OMY moment. so we tried one of the ones she picked out. It was a very simple mermaid dress. I liked it but it just didnt have that OMY factor. but she said i am going to add this belt to it to add a little something more. and the minute she put that on the minute i said OMY i found my dress. They were so helpful with the fittings that i had from the first to the last. They also did a great job with helping me pick and order the tuxedos for the groom and his groomsman. I would recommend them to anyone. They are fabulous!! They are a little more expensive than David's but the help that we got from them made up for it!!
We purchased my bridal gown and five bridesmaid dresses from Annapolis Formal and are very pleased with the way everything turned out. For the most part, we received excellent service, although the shop does not take appointments to try on dresses, which sometimes caused us to have to wait. Alterations went well and all of the dresses came out beautifully.
