Loved my venue! And Katie at ABGR was more than helpful. She was so willing to be helpful and was just all around wonderful. This venue is so pretty, and perfect for your dreamy beach wedding, but without the sand!!!! Loved everything about it.
I cannot rave about this venue enough, I had my dream wedding here with my husband and would recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful outdoor beach venue. I worked closely with Lacee and have nothing but the greatest things to say about her. I loved how quickly she responded to my SEVERAL emails....and there were many
This venue is great if you want your special day to be a romantic, easy-going day. The scenery speaks for itself so the decorations can be simple and minimal. Lacee was a huge help. Just really focus on communication and your day will be wonderful!
This review has taken me a long time to write because it is the only bad review I gave and it breaks my heart. The venue is beautiful and the materials they provide for the price were great! Where they failed epically was in service. (Other than bartenders they were fantastic and knew what they were supposed to do)
I started planning my wedding in November and got married the following July. I met with Alex several times and exchanged several emails and until July I was completely happy. When communication started to lapse followed by an email informing me, a week before my wedding, that the she the site coordinator was leaving the company that weekend and someone else would be taking care of my wedding. This was done in an email just days after I had met with her to finalized layout. Why this wasn't done in person I am not sure. I expressed my utter disbelief in the lack of professionalism and my concern for things to go as planned. I was assured by both Alex and the new girl Katie ( who apparently had been working there for years) that I was in good hands and that everything would be flawless! She had reviewed my file and knew the whole thing! This was NOT the case.
I had been attempting to schedule my rehearsal with no response so I finally just said we were showing up. The reply back was finally that would be ok but the two rooms we were told we could use to get ready were really already booked and had been for months! News to me! They did accommodate us but it put my girls getting ready in the same room that was being used by bartenders, caterers and had to be walked through to get to the restrooms. Awkward!
Day of the rehearsal I finally met Katie. She came out, on her phone, a while after we had been there to rehearse. She introduced herself, then asked (with a less than pleasant attitude) if we needed anything and then left! My chairs had been set up in mud for the ceremony! The gift table was being placed on a hill people didn't even walk near and of course we needed you to tell us where we are supposed to come out of! Hello coordinate!
Day of the wedding my cake table was in the wrong place, she stopped by only to ask questions that were explicitly answered in my contract, and stress out the bride! My florist moved tables to where they should be, the bartender knew the answers to the questions and my mother and bridesmaids ran interference so I didn't freak out on her!
Wedding time comes around and the two ushers, that were supposed to be directing guests in, were on their phones or sitting down. People came in the wrong direction forcing them to climb up a hill and then back down on grass in heels, and nowhere near the gift table!
We had prepaid for an open bar, guessing high so that we didn't run out of drinks, with the knowledge that we would be refunded the difference. I had to email and call more times than I should have to get this money. The first time I emailed Katie assured me that my check should arrive within the week because she had just submitted it. After more than a week and no sign I emailed again asking for both a bill and the check. She then said again that she had just submitted it. So, the first time was a lie? Received the bill and was miss charged for things and refunds were lacking. This took several more calls and weeks to get it done.
Overall disappointed!
I had my wedding reception here and it was beautiful! Right on the water, perfect weather, and amazingly nice staff! The price was a little steep, but in the end I'm glad we went with the bigger package because then our guests had more space. I wish there was an in between sized package, but the large one worked just fine. Everyone was so nice to work with-especially Alex Lorton (Event Coordinator). I would definitely recommend this venue for a wedding year round!!
This is a beautiful venue. I’m originally from NJ and I always thought I would get married in NJ. However, when work brought me to California and my husband proposed, I knew I wanted to have my wedding in California. I had 2 serious considerations when it came down to choosing a venue. We were looking at Avila Beach Golf Resort and a SLO county winery. Avila Beach took the cake. It was beautiful and you didn’t have to do much decorating.
When we first booked the location back in May, the former venue coordinator was not very responsive and she did not make me feel at ease. At the time, I was very disappointed with the service at Avila. I even considered finding a new venue. However, in July there was a change in staff and the new venue coordinator was AMAZING! When Alex came on board with Avila Beach, my wedding coordinator and Alex hit it off. Alex was very accommodating and she truly made me feel like the wedding was mine and she let me control a good amount of logistics.
The October weather in Avila was great. However, when the entire wedding is outside, you really want to make sure you are choosing the right time of year.
A week after the wedding we received the pictures from the photographer – and BEAUTIFUL. We made a fabulous choice. We had a small wedding, with about 60 people and we used the patio tent. I am glad we decided to go with the patio tent, rather than the large grass tent, because the grass under the large tent was mostly dead and seemed to be muddy. Additionally, the patio tent has a cement floor, so it was easy for the guests to manuever in normal wedding shoe attire. Additionally, if you use the patio tent, they have a very nice bar area for guests.
The view of the ocean was amazing and the tent was a great size! We decorated the tent with paper lanterns and it looked stunning. This venue is so much better than a hotel venue.
I think Avila Beach Golf Resort was a little overpriced. Make sure you consider all necessary rentals -- such as linens, plates, and alcohol.
We chose this venue because we had been to other events on the lawn over the years and it was always fun and the view is incredible and the weather is predictable. We got married in July and had been warned that hornets can be an issue later in the summer, but we had zero bug problems. We took pictures in the afternoon before the ceremony and there are plenty of shady spots around the golf course with beautiful backgrounds. Our ceremony was on the lawn in direct sunlight. Forewarn your guests that they will be in direct sun and on the lawn, so dress appropriately. After the ceremony, our guests went into the tent for the reception. The breeze picks up off the coast in the evening, so the tent really protected us as the weather cooled in the evening. Inside the tent, most of the grass was worn away so it was a little muddy and bare. Boo. We missed most of the cocktail hour, so I cannot speak to the service. The food was not the same as what we had tasted. We had ordered stuffed chicken, which we printed on menus for each of our guests, and we heard back that many people could not find anything stuffed inside the chicken. The bathrooms were not well kept and were far from the tent. There was construction on a nearby building that was not complete when we had our wedding, so hopefully once this is complete there will be closer bathrooms in better condition. The wedding coordinator we worked with was wonderful but she is no longer working at the golf resort so I cannot speak to the service of who is there now.
Overall my experience with Avila Beach Golf Resort was wonderful. Linda, who no longer works there was fabulous and it will be quite a loss for the resort. We had wonderful back drops for pictures, the wedding overlooking the water was perfect. My only complaint is that the food was not exactly what we had ordered. I knew there were changes to how the venue is catered, but I was very disappointed to have the wrong kind of salmon prepared and the wrong kind of chicken prepared. None of the guests noticed this and raved about the food, but we did.
It did end up costing more than what we had planned, but overall it was an absolutely perfect wedding day!
