The one issue we had was we asked for a buffet set up upstairs as well as downstairs and they did not set up upstairs so the food line took longer than expected. They are very well priced for the quality of the food and I would highly recommend to anyone in the Des Moines or Ames area.

They hold wonderful tastings for their food, have a generous menu with lots of different options, as well as several different package options depending on how many dishes you want to serve. The owners are very kind and super easy to work with, and you can tell they really care about the service they provide. Communication was clear and consistent, and day-of was super easy as well. They are definitely a well-oiled machine and know how to handle a big event. We also received endless compliments from guests on how much they enjoyed dinner and all of the options offered. HIGHLY recommend checking them out for your wedding if you haven't already and getting them booked ASAP!

e to food. It was my understanding (& on my invoice) that my guests, who were vegan/vegetarian, were going to get a vegan burger AND a hearty salad. Unfortunately, that was not the case. They did not have the hearty salad and instead of an actual vegan burger, the “burger” was literally just plain vegan patty. When asked, they simply had forgotten the rest of the burger. And when asked about the salad, they said they didn’t have it, which wasn’t true because the day after when we went to go pick up the leftovers at the venue, the hearty salad was in the fridge in its original container with the dressing….
It was very sad, as the bride, to see my guests feel like they had no food options for them at my own wedding, even though we had planned on that. My bridesmaid, who was a vegan, had to reheat some leftovers she had from the night before because the patty was not filling enough for her. I felt extremely bad.
Additionally, some of the emails that were exchanged back and forth were not professional whatsoever. In some of the exchanges, they made me out to look like I didn’t know math.

We need those wanting the special option to ask, so that we can retrieve it for them. The staff said that no one asked for the salad or additional burgers. There must have been some miscommunication and I apologize for that. We certainly do not want anyone to be hungry especially when we had the food there.

The caterers helping with our buffet at our wedding were very kind and kept a nice flow. I love that most of their food options are gluten free so we didn’t have to worry about our guests with allergies. ns ahead of time to mitigate, but they STILL ran out of both entrees before all the guests were through the line. And this was with bfab staff serving! I was devastated to hear some of our guests did not get served a main dish.
Bfab was also unable to meet my request to have one of the BBQ sauces we choose labeled as tomato free, so the father of the bride (who's allergic) wasn't sure which one was safe on the day of so he ended up going without sauce. He was the one who paid for the catering, so I found this very disappointing.
Food was okay, but no chance for seconds (or firsts, for some). Hopefully they figure out the portion sizing and are able to improve service.

portion of the buffet. It's certainly just as frustrating to us as it is for you! We have been struggling this year especially with portion sizes and guest expectations. It seems to be harder every year (we've been doing this 12 years!) to manage guest expectations. We want our buffet packages to be afforable to our clients, but that gets tricky when guests expect an "all you can eat" buffet. This is not an excuse, but an explanation.
Our staff person is trained to control portions, and it is possible that she overserved because she felt obligated by guests that were adamant about bigger portions. We never short our client on portions, so please know that you received everything you paid for per our contract.
As for the BBQ sauce, it was labeled when it left our location per your request. The extra label must have been lost/fell off. If he would have asked she could have told him which one was tomato free! I didn't realize this happened, I'm sorry!

We booked B Fab for our wedding after enjoying their food at a friends wedding. However, at our friends wedding and my own, they ran out of meat, despite us ordering for 160 guests...
when we only had 120 there. There is no reason meat should run out, ESPECIALLY as they have someone scooping it. Not sure if it’s a training error, but it would be beneficial for staff to only give out one piece of meat per guest, or make enough for the wedding size. As stated above we ordered food for 160 guests and only had 120 there, and we were sent home with 2 pieces of chicken breast and no pulled pork.
My other friend is getting married in the fall of next year and I recommended she choose somewhere else for their catering as BFABs numbers and calculations don’t correlate with food and guests. Staff was friendly, food was good and the process was ok, but I unfortunately would not recommend to anyone who’s looking for catering as you can’t rely on the quantity of meat you will get.

in our private conversation - we did bring all 160 portions that were paid for. All of your guests were able to get a portion of a main dish. We always leave our buffet open after all guests have been served, so the reason there were so few leftovers, is because the guests took advantage of the extra portions available.
To all potential clients out there reading this review & response:
As you can imagine, planning quantities of food for a large event can be tricky, but it is our job and our clients depend on our experience to get it right. We can say with certainty over the past 11 years of catering hundreds of events, we've only missed the mark a handful of times. There are so many factors at play, but ultimately, it's our job to serve the main dish and control portions, even when 'hangry' guests get cranky with us.
Here's a couple of favorite quotes from guests in wedding lines: "I'm American. I can have as much f'in' food as I want." "I don't give a f**k about everyone else in line, I want 4 sandwiches." "Pile it on! I'll take two of everything."
We work hard to keep our prices competitive & affordable. Instead of raising prices for the few, we keep our buffet amounts conservative because that does accommodate the many. If you have more questions about our portion sizes and way that we serve them, please contact us directly! Thank you!
