Bay 7, American Tobacco District is a unique wedding venue in Durham, NC. Located within the American Tobacco Campus, a former tobacco factory, its modern design contrasted with its historic location makes it an unforgettable setting for weddings.
This distinctive venue was formerly the site of The American Tobacco Company, once America’s largest and most successful tobacco business. Cigarettes are no longer manufactured in the American Tobacco District, but the building has retained its industrial look, giving it an urban-chic feel. Though it now features all modern conveniences, its unique character has been preserved.
Located next to the Lucky Strike tower, Bay 7 can accommodate up to 400 people. 10,000 square feet in size, its stylish interior with exposed brick walls and hardwood floors makes it a great blank canvas for any wedding style. It also features large panoramic windows and a wraparound interior balcony. Both ceremonies and receptions can be held in Bay 7, and get-ready rooms are available for couples. The site is wheelchair accessible and has ample parking for guests. An event coordinator is available to help with planning and to provide a list of recommended local vendors. Angus Barn, Bay 7’s exclusive caterer, will work with you the create the perfect menu, which can be served as a buffet, a plated dinner, or a family-style meal. A full bar is available onsite, and linens, chairs, tableware, lighting, and audio equipment will also be provided. We had our wedding at Bay 7 in June 2024, and wow, did they impress! Having been to weddings where the staff was less than stellar, my husband and I were a little concerned about making sure everything was perfect for our day. But with Bay 7 and Angus Barn, we got nothing short of the crème de la crème. The event staff blew us (and our guests) away with their kindness and professionalism. I lost count of how many people came up to us to say the staff wasn’t just exceptional—they were some of the nicest people they'd ever encountered.
And the food? Multiple guests told us it was the best wedding food they’d ever had, and honestly, some even said it was the best service they’d ever experienced—wedding or otherwise.
The American Tobacco Campus made for a stunning backdrop, and the kids had a blast running around outside. The location in downtown Durham was also a win—our hotel block was within walking distance, making it super convenient for everyone. It truly is the perfect venue if you’re looking to tie the knot in the heart of Durham.
I also can’t say enough about the planning experience with the Angus Barn/Bay 7 team. Melissa, who I worked with, was an absolute gem! She was so helpful, quick to respond, and always took the time to make sure every detail was right. I never felt rushed or stressed about decisions, and she was such a joy to collaborate with throughout the process.
Oh, and let’s talk about that North Carolina summer heat! Our wedding landed during one of those intense heat dome stretches, and we were beyond grateful to have chosen an indoor venue. The AC in that building is a lifesaver, and I can’t stress enough how important that is for a summer wedding.
Thank you to all the Bay 7 staff for taking such great care of us! We wish we could do it all over again because the joy you created for us will be unforgettable!

Bay 7 was the perfect wedding venue for us! We had both the ceremony and the reception there and we couldn't have made a better choice. After a few hiccups getting an initial proposal, Kelly stepped in and took care of us. She got everything set up and worked us for the first few months, then Sarah took over when she returned from maternity leave. We were a bit nervous about how the handoff would go, but it was seamless. They were both so helpful making vendor suggestions and answering all our questions. Bay 7 is such a well-known, well-respected venue. It made hiring all our outside vendors so easy. On the day, everything went off without a hitch. They were so organized and all the staff was out of this world. All the servers kept checking in and making sure not only we as the bride and groom had everything but taking care of every single one of our guests. The venue is beautiful, the food was delicious, and the people were wonderful to work with. What more can you ask for?

If I could give this place a million stars I would! I held my ceremony and reception at this location and it is everything I could have dreamed of and more. My wedding coordinators, Sarah and Georgia, helped me with planning from the moment I put down my deposit to the moment I left my reception in my getaway car. Georgia especially made sure that I was able to enjoy my entire wedding day without feeling stressed or overwhelmed when anything wasn’t going according to plan. Besides my coordinators I want to acknowledge how impressed everyone was with the servers. They truly deserve a standing ovation!! I had a sit down plated style dinner, and all servers catered to every individuals needs and dietary requirements while being extremely polite and professional. One specific staff member who’s name I can’t remember, sat with a member of my wedding party when she had too much to drink for most of the night and acted almost like a therapist to her. That being said, I am so grateful that I was able to work with such a delightful team and I still can’t believe that I was lucky enough to celebrate my wedding day in my dream venue :) I would highly recommend to anyone!!

From the first planning stages to the day of, all of our vendors were managed, any issues were hidden from the bridal party and worked out on the day off, and the onsite team day of were AWESOME! Bay 7 had exactly the look and feel we were going for in our wedding - the warehouse/Durham/market lights feel. Everything was absolutely perfect. Sarah, our coordinator with the venue, was professional and prompt, and the servers and bartenders were wonderful and accomodating. The ceremony and reception went smoothly. Even a serious medical emergency was handeled professionally and with class, and the reception continued to run smoothly while the guest was cared for and taken to the hospital. Most people did not even notice what had happened, including the father of the bride. Angus Barn staff go out of their way to make sure your wedding is perfect. The venue is beautiful, and the staff make you feel like yours is the only wedding they have to think about. The food was delicious as well. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned and did not taste like typical wedding food. I have no complaints!

When I first saw Bay 7 through the windows while waiting to meet Kelly for the first time, I knew that it was the place I was searching for my wedding. I was looking for a unique venue for the ceremony and reception, that was modern, but classic. And this place is it. While I did not think the cost of the venue was too much compared to other, smaller, not as other unique venues...Angus Barn owns Bay 7 and is the exclusive caterer. So the catering was more than I had budgeted. However, I can say it was well worth it!!! Kelly was great helping to plan and consider my ideas during the months before the day. She was very helpful in assisting me in considering all my options and sharing of ideas that have worked for other events. I did not have to worry about vendors for tables, chairs, table cloths, napkins, and place settings, or even center pieces for our tables, as they also have beautiful lanterns that you may use- as all of this is including. On the day of the wedding, Kelly and her staff set up all my DIY decor, she served as the director for rehearsal the day before and the day of director as well. The venue was beautiful, the staff were professional and friendly. The staff made sure everything was in place and that the other vendors had everything they needed as well. And the food was AMAZING!!! This was such a special day and many of my guest are still commenting about how great the food and the venue were. Thank you to Kelly, Bay 7/ Angus Barn for the great service. I highly recommend this venue.

I cannot express how perfect and accommodating Bay 7 was - my reception was everything I'd ever hoped for, and the service there was impeccable (think of quiet, incredibly polite staff who still immediately recognize when a plate should be covered/cleared or a drink needs refilling). The large success of the reception was without a doubt significantly because of the space we chose. Working with Kelly, we were about to utilize the space exactly how we wanted but make use of Angus Barn's items (like tablecloths and cobalt glassware) to cut down costs, which is huge. Yes, the cost of the space rental is expensive, but compared to the other reception venues we'd looked at, the cost of the meals significantly made up for it (think $70 a person for "the best steak I'd ever had" or "melt-in-your-mouth fish"). They even worked with us to move their piano upstairs for cocktail hour, so that we could have that musical accompaniment! The space itself is huge, but it's so unique and there are so many different ways to customize it, to make it yours. Out of all of my vendor choices, I would say that this is the one I was the most glad for.

The American Tobacco Campus is a truly unique venue that offered many amazing vistas for photography and atmosphere. Our guests, especially those from out of town, thought the water feature running through the campus was truly impressive and I had many guests comment on the uniqueness of Bay 7 itself. My only complaint is that we were not told in advance that there would be renovations done around the time of our wedding. Otherwise it is definitely a great place to host a large event and will be even better when they are done with the renovations!

The venue itself is AMAZING. We loved the historic, urban feel of the space. My one complaint is that getting in touch with the person who runs it is difficult. I was glad to hand that off to my wedding planner. Otherwise, the space is amazing and has plenty of parking!

Bay 7 was the perfect venue for our wedding. It is a beautiful converted warehouse space that you can customize to fit your own vision, which was great for us. It can be expensive and a lot of work to coordinate everything a la carte, but the end result is beyond worth it. This is not a "full service" venue, and it books up well in advance (we booked 14 months ahead), but it is a great option if you are looking for a unique space.
